Quinta das Fontainhas Vila Franca da Serra is situated on top of a hill above the pretty cobbled streets of Vila franca da serra, surrounded by huge old oak trees, water mines, ponds and the streams that give it´s name farm of Fountains. with giant granite boulders strewn across the land and the river Mondego just down the hill, this is truly an amazing place. The Serra da Estrela mountain range is right in front of you, from the house there are far reaching views to the highest point in Portugal with many old stone hillside villages with medieval towns and castles to explore and many rivers lakes, glacial valleys and open countryside with all of the wild life, this area is a stunning. Where time seems to have stood still. Though it easy reach of large cities like Gouveia, Viseu and Guarda also less than an hour from the spanish border all can be easily reach by the A25 toll roads. Aveiro on the coast is a hour away, so you can be by the coast relaxing after a morning walking in the mountains.
