The owners of "Em Carne Viva" are truely gifted and enthusiastic creators. Staying true to their mission serving an ecological experience, also all the interior is made from recycled materials. The local vegan and vegetarian ingredients are combined in a delicate way that enhance their natural flavor. This approach produces portuguese food that is a true taste of it's own.
Our dinner was served with outstanding elegance that met our expectations from the pictures on the internet. Also the service was excellent.
We were also very happy that the oweners took their time to show us their amazing eco luxury suits located in the first floor of the restaurant.
Altogether a must visit restaurant for sustainability and fine dining lovers.

They confirmed dinner reservations for my birthday on March 20th only to have them call me to tell me they weren't open today (April 14th) for dinner.
Their response?
"We are very sorry but It's a dinner, not an event. You have time (4 hours or more) to find a restaurant in more of 2000 at your will in Porto City instead of loosing your time telling everybody we ruined your day."

Une bonne cuisine qui se veut raffinée, mais finalement assez simple. Les plats ont tout de même du gout et le service est globalement correct, à quelques exceptions près.... Les prix sont un peu chers pour ce qui est proposé, mais on passe un agréable dîner.

Local muito acolhedor, comida de ótima qualidade, tanto em relação a ingredientes como em confecção. Dispõe de boa carta de vinhos com quase todos os vinhos da zona do Douro e de várias gamas. Os funcionários muito simpáticos, atenciosos e prestativos, ajudam com a carta e até mesmo uma explicação do local. O espaço muito interessante, casa antiga, recuperada e praticamente todos os moveis, decoração e até mesmo utensílios, foram reutilizados. Espaço muito bonito e arranjado. Dispõe ainda de um jardim. Preços intermédios.

Serviço muito demorado. Almocei numa sala sem ar condicionado. O calor era tanto que nem conseguimos pedir sobremesa. Preços demasiados caros para a comida em questão. Um risotto de cogumelos custa 18€. Decididamente um restaurante a não voltar.

Fui jantar a este restaurante depois de ler excelentes recomendações e a minha experiência foi verdadeiramente dececionante! O espaço é lindo e o atendimento razoável é mesmo a comida que deixa a desejar. Pedi a massa do Mar e infelizmente nem a água do mar é tão salgada! A pessoa que me acompanhou pediu tofu sem espinhas e para além de não ter espinhas o tofu não tinha qualidade...preços elevados, um emprazamento espalhafatoso talvez para tentar tirar a atenção do quão pobre é na realidade o sabor. Nem a sobremesa escapou... uma desilusão. A não voltar nem recomendar.

We had an amazing meal here. My husband and I decided to visit on our last night in Porto, as a treat. It was totally worth it. Delicious food (we are both vegan and there were lots of options), lovely wine and impeccable service. The restaurant was also beautiful....even the toilets were amazing!! We sat at the table on the balcony and got to enjoy the beautiful view of the lush gardens as well as the sunset. I will be spreading the word to all travelling vegans. My only criticism is that it was quite hard to find since there was no sign! But at the same time quite exciting to have discovered it. Thanks again.

Ristorante pretenzioso, senza la sostanza per sostenere i prezzi, medio/alti. Cucina estremamente speziata che copre completamente i sapori degli ingredienti, pur di qualità (carote nella millefoglie cotte alla perfezione ad esempio). Cibo che vorrebbe essere nouvelle cuisine e di alta moda (ad esempio micro-verdure come contorno), ma che nel complesso sembra mancare di continuità. L'impressione è che il cuoco sia un forte fumatore e non senta i sapori tenui. Tutti i sapori sono estremi ed al limite dello sgradevole. Gli shiitake su base di succo di limone decisamente uno spreco dell'ottimo lentinula edodes, fungo altrimenti prelibato. Aspettatevi 50-60€ a persona tranquillamente se volete mangiare qualcosa. Il percorso prestabilito di 5 portate non è sufficiente a saziare un adulto. Il seitan (porzione da 30 grammi circa)è decisamente tra i peggiori che abbia mangiato da tempo.
Bagno con rubinetto per lavarsi le mani non funzionante.
Food not worth the prizes. Food well cooked but too spicy and not so flavourful. Well executed but not satiating at all. The shiitake dish with lemon base is just a waste of great mushrooms. Not so bad the millefeuille ( this dish alone 20 euro per person), but too spicy, so that the carrots taste was completely overwhelmed. Expect to spend 50 to 60 euros each and to exit still hungry. One of the worst seitan i have eaten so far. Toilet with no running water in the washbasin. Not recommended.

Exquisite vegan restaurant in Porto. The food is absolutely amazing! I mean, even the simplest of the potatoes tastes like it was made in heaven. Of course, the prices are high. My and my girlfriend payed for a full meal (starters, main dish, dessert and wine) 90€ but you'll have the best vegan experience in your life. I'll probably come back here for my next celebration.

One of the best restaurants I’ve tried...best vegetarian food! Excellent service and great ambiance! Fancy and chic! Highly reccomended!...I come here every time I visit Porto! They are so friendly: last time we arrived very late and they still took our group and provided the usual great service!

Espaço muito agradável, serviço lento mas simpático. A comida não é má é normalissima disfarçada com uma apresentação mais cuidada. Qualquer restaurante vegetariano ou Vegan despretensioso, serviria o Risotto de vegetais que comi por 9€ no máximo. Paguei 18€! Uns peixinhos da horta normalissimos por 10€. Não recomendo e não voltarei.

Fanciest vegan restaurant ever! A bit expesive (maybe because I was expecting to pay what it was marked in the Lonely Planet Porto Pocket Book : €) not the easiest restaurant to find if you do not have wifi on your phone (there was only a black board next to the entrance and the name is not well exposed) Lovely decor, even the plates are beautiful. Very good food and the dessert did not dissapointed.

Siamo stati presso il ristorante ad agosto. Gli interni del locale colpiscono molto, davvero belli. I piatti anche, fantasiosi, e abbracciano la tradizione portoghese in versione vegetariana o vegana. Finalmente ho potuto provare la francesina MA ATTENZIONE è disponibile solo a pranzo o il giovedì sera. Abbiamo davvero apprezzato la qualità e la presentazione delle pietanze!!! Davvero. Prezzi assolutamente giusti per quello che offrono. Fino a qui va tutto bene. Nota stonata: i camerieri erano di per sé simpatici e disponibili, ma se parlano quasi tutto il tempo tra di loro facendo ben più rumore dei pochi clienti in sala, a qualche domanda sugli ingredienti la cameriera mi risponde "Non lo so" con aria scanzonata e senza nessuna intenzione di informarsi, sempre la stessa ragazza comincia a canticchiare quando si stacca la musica (bella musica, di classe, adatta all'ambiente)... Forse il proprietario del posto deve decidere qual è il livello che intende tenere. Per servire le posate i guanti bianchi, ma il comportamento dei camerieri è stato un po' come fossero loro al bar. La cosa in sè ci ha fatto comunque divertire, era uno strano contrasto, e ne abbiamo riso, non ha per nulla rovinato la serata, anzi è stato spiritoso. Scopro alla fine che il proprietario è in vacanza, forse questo il motivo del contrasto. Consiglio il ristorante? Sicuramente sì.

UNA VERGÜENZA.
He pedido mesa para hoy a las 14 hrs. No hay problema me reserva por teléfono, llegamos después de hacer tiempo a las 12,45 hrs. Con las ganas y la ilusión de probar un vegetariano que me han recomendado. Y cuando pido la carta escogemos el menú de 49 euros más vino, que para ser Portugal, es un muy buen precio, después que consigo que un càmero rubio deje el móvil y me atienda, me dice que el menú degustación no me lo puede ofrecer porque es tarde, aunque la cocina cierra a las 15 hrs. Le digo que no lo entiendo y que quiero hablar con el chef, los camareros se hacen el sueco en portugues y pasan de mi. Que conste que a llegar habia una pareja que ya pagaban y nosotros. Pues me levanto y marcho. Cabreado por la tomadura de pelo. Ah a 30 mtrs comimos de maravilla "Rosa do Porto"

Fui no meu dia de anos tentar jantar, estava aberto, disseram me que estava fechado. Mas no horario q tinha na porta dizia que estava aberto. Deixaram me entrar depois de mencionar isso. Depois disseram q não tinham a maioria dos pratos e que o risotto n podiam fazer porque demorava 40min a fazer. Por acaso eu trabalhei e trabalho num restaurante vegetariano, e mesmo à Carta o risotto demora 20min a sair. Pessima experiência, pessimo atendimento, falta de vontade. Se voltar é pra escrever reclamação que nesse dia n fiz por ser o meu aniversário e não estar nem pra me chatear. Mas fiquei muito triste, desiludida e desapontada. Arruinaram o final do meu dia.

A vegetarian restaurant that goes for luxury prices. For my taste the prices are too steep especially for the Porto price level. You can easily end up with over 100 euros for a full two person dinner. The portions are pretty small in contrast to the high prices. The quality seems decent although some people might find the taste a bit peculiar. The staff does not fully meet the luxury prices. Although they try pretty much e.g. by wearing gloves and things like that. But the wine serving is not fully professional. Also some things we've ordered have been forgotten and similar slight mistakes that shouldn't appear often with these prices.
On the plus side the location is really nicely furnitured and the noise level is good. No unnecessary music, you can still have a decent conversion without having to shout.

Ok food, but for some reason they don't do the francesinha for dinner except for Thursdays. Kinda went there just for this. When we sat down they put a plate of nibbles in front of us, we ate them, but then they charged us for them. So our bill came to €47 for two mains, a water (price is not on the menu-€2.20) and a glass of wine. I would have expected much more for that price in Porto. Beware the nibbles!

Dieses Lokal ist sehr empfehlenswert und nicht nur was für Vegetarier. Das Essen ist vielleicht etwas teurer allerdings kann man es auch nicht mit einem einfachen Restaurant vergleichen. Die hier angebotenen Speisen sind nicht nur optisch ein Genuss. Vegetarier schätzen auch einfallsreiche Gerichte...

Très bon restaurant avec une petite carte. Prix très corrects pour la qualite des plats. Bonus pour la presentation tres raffinee.
Enfin un restaurant vegetarien qui ne se contente pas de riz et de legumes servis dans au buffet mais de plats élaborés pour tous.
La decoration de la salle est tres agreables et propice au calme.
Nous y retournerons avec plaisir.

Muito mau. A sopa e o chá eram bons, o resto demasiado mau para ser verdade. Hambúrguer mau com batatas fritas a palha que cheiravam mal, moles, frias, e que ja tinham sido fritas a dias atrás. Um almoço e sendo o prato do dia, a custar mais de 10 euros por pessoa. No final reclamei e responderam me dizendo que iam transmitir a cozinha. Nem um pedido de desculpa. Nao vai longe este pseudo vegetariano. Nunca mais repetiremos.

It was a desapointment! Menu with few choices. The tasting menu strangely has more items than the menu! Interesting presentation but mediocre confection without attention to the textures. Confusion of flavors on the plate! Tasteless caipirinha tart. Mini bread of entrance and two mini leaflets not requested with cost of 6,5 euros! Bad service. No basic knowledge to serve wine. At end of the desert it was asked to pay the dinner! With the empty room it was a rough invitation to leave...

Very good choice of revisited traditional Portuguese receipes, most of which are a 100% vegan, and a few vegetarian. The food is very tasty, the place is charming (an old town house), the staff is friendly and professional. A startling find in a country where it can be hard to avoid meat. Fine dining vegetarian/vegan restaurant with excellent (although unsmiling) service. Great tastes and creative ideas.
Tapenade and toast, small empanadas and rolls as a cover (bread a little dry, but we asked for olive oil and it was then delicious).
Starters: Portobello mushroom stuffed with goats cheese and dusted with pistachio with a lovely basil oil and creamy drizzle. Plus baked cheese with vegetarian Portuguese 'sausage – spicy and delicious.
Mains: Unbelievable mushroom risotto with truffle oil, full of flavour and depth. Plus elegantly presented millefeuille of vegetables, which came with a parmesan crisp around a salad and great beetroot and sesame rice. The millefeuille themselves were heavy on the carrot and not much other taste, but the accompaniments were good.
Dessert: A vegan caipirinha lime cream tart. Amazing! What was that creaminess if not cream!!!
Mostly loved the food, great décor, a real surprise and fantastic to have fine dining without meat. It would have been five stars had our waitress not been offputtingly stuffy (white gloves put on to lay out cutlery, and a slight impatience along with barely a smile).
Try it. This sort of place is rare and special. €77, including a half-bottle of very good Douro wine and a coffee.

Been here twice and I was disappointed on both occasions. Food is good but not great. Given the ingredients they work with it's a bit overpriced. Good for tourists though, since there aren't many veggie or vegan restaurants in Porto. Room is lovely and has a nice vintage feel.

Absolutely loved it! The rooms are beautiful, with beautiful scenery outside, and the food was amazing!! Plus, main and dessert averages around 25€, so it's very reasonable. The menu is only in Portuguese but the waitresses speak English. Next time I come to Porto, I'll definitely go back there!!

Restaurante situado en una preciosa casa cerca del palacio de la música. La decoración es increíble.
La comida tiene una calidad excelente, un servicio impecable y unos platos muy bonitos a la vista y al paladar.
El precio no es alto para lo que ofrecen.

The restaurant is in two rooms of a house in the main street - a few steps up from the pavement - high ceilinged, bright and light with pleasant views to the garden at the back. Our food was interesting, unusual and very tasty - the vegetable risotto especially. Be aware you will be charged for the appetisers that are bright to the table automatically without being offered. I have given four stars because although the food was good we found the atmosphere in the restaurant formal rather than relaxing so that we didn't feel like lingering after finishing our meal.

Top vegetarian (mostly vegan) cuisine, with very creative and innovative cuisine. The selection is fairly limited but everyone on the table was happy or very happy with their dishes. Somewhat formal but relaxed and peaceful ambient. It is fairly pricey.

Beautiful restaurant and atmosphere. Lovely service and fresh crisp local wine. Worth the 45 min walk from town! The Brigadier and Millefeuille mains were both delicious!

Food was nice and good atmosphere. We had reserved and they did not have our reservation, then told us we could not sit in the front section which was only for reservations. So that was a little odd. Good food, large portions (maybe even too big). But lovely people and the taste of the food was excellent.

Un peu septique avant d'aller manger végétarien. Mais bonne surprise. L accueil un peu spécial avec pas grand chose qui signal le restaurant et les enfants qui courent. Sinon plats très raffinés. Cadre joliment décoré. Jolies tables. Plat + dessert+ 1 verre de Porto environ 25€.

Muito mau. Mais de 1h de espera pelos pratos principais. Risoto de cogumelos = arroz malandro de cogumelos. Endivias mal cozinhadas, com dois purés (!), ambos maus. No fim, 45 €, 2 pessoas, sem café, sem sobremesa, com apenas 1 copo de vinho. Pode ter sido apenas uma noite má, mas foi muito má. É uma pena, porque o sítio merecia melhor.

Um conceito de espaço amigo do ambiente, apenas foram utilizados (sempre que possível) materiais reciclados, na construção e recuperação do edifício em que se encontra o estabelecimento. Nos equipamentos, instalações, mobiliário, decorações e serviço de mesa, também. Uma proposta sustentável, inspiradora, e que não perde qualquer refinamento. Assim, obtém-se um ambiente excelente. O atendimento acompanha a orquestra de sons da madeira que compõe o chão. A simpatia e distinção da funcionária na forma como se dirigiu a este suspeito que fotografava o espaço e a sua bebida preferida, segurando-a numa mão. O preço foi pesado, quase o dobro do preço de um espresso num qualquer café, mas não nos podemos esquecer de tudo aquilo que inclui uma experiência, se fosse só a bebida, ficaria em casa e eu mesmo prepararia o meu café.

We were transported to heaven in this restaurant! The owner and his wife treated us like royalty, and every dish was a delicious creation. Lot's of vegan options. Ambiance was lovely. We looked out on a beautiful garden.

Sinceramente não fiquei fã e sou vegetariano há mais de 10 anos. Achei muito bonito o prédio na sua totalidade, o jardim, assim como gostei muito do mobiliário (por exemplo as belas mesas e cadeiras realizada em madeira reciclada) e a decoração no seu geral. No entanto estava com aspettativa alta e fiquei desiludido quanto a comida que na minha experiência e paladar foi demasiado elaborada tornando-se pesada e perdendo a frescura que os vegetais nos oferecem

Very good and inventive vegetarian & vegan restaurant, recreating also typical portuguese dishes in a vegetarian alternative. Unfortunately there were no salads available, which says that salads are not a really important part of portuguese cuisine... Located in a nicely and ecologically refurbished building with very high ceiling.

Restaurante vegetariano numa casa antiga recuperada lindíssima! Excelente decoração com recurso a muitos materiais reciclados! O jardim exterior é maravilhoso para um almoço ao ar livre!
