Our first meal here was a smashing success! I had the roast pork lunch complimented by gourmet quality white and “vintage” breads of unequalled quality and an excellent red wine reminiscent of a great country Lambrusco I had once in Parma Italy. I could have fined entirely on just the roasted potatoes and salad that came with my generous portion of roast pork, washed down with the subtly fruity, almost sparkling red wine. I finished my meal with an espresso of only average quality and simply had no more room for the included hearty soup which, however, also could have virtually been a meal for me at some times. Given that all of this is offered, with pleasant, friendly and relaxed service for €6.00, I can only say I’ll be back for more. My wife was equally satisfied with her baccalaureate stew, shown below. Home cooking at its Portuguese best—so far, anyway. Now, after multiple visits, still our favorite choice for lunch or dinner in this vicinity. (7 visits) And again today, (now 8 visits) yet another two dishes, sardines with traditional Portuguese black eyed pea salad and oven roasted chicken, photographed below. We continue to try other places, for variety, but this one remains at the top of our list.

Spartan location but great food! We ate twice in this typical tavern family-run. Great baccallao with homemade fried chips, a very goodoctopus, maybe a little too seasoned with oil and garlic and also the typical tripe of Porto was very good. Ottimo baccallao accompagnato da patate fritte caserecce; polipo buonissimo, forse un po' troppo condito con olio e aglio e anche la trippa tipica di Porto molto buona. Prezzi bassi e cibo di qualità, sicuramente consigliato!!!

Splendida cena in questo piccolo ristorantino a gestione familiare, ottimo inglese da parte del figlio che è molto dinamico e simpatico. Qualità/prezzo elevatissima. Este Bar Restaurante está situado en la Rua da Alegria en Oporto-Portugal. Es un local Familiar, donde su Gastronomía Culinaria es Casera y muy rica, aparte tienen un menú extenso y muy rico en Pescados y en Carnes. El trato muy bueno y muy amable con los clientes y con muchas atenciones, en fin es como el comer en familia. Os lo recomiendo y sobre todo lo más típico de Oporto, como La Francesinha, esta riquísima y con su salsa acompañándola la hace excelente. Si visitáis Oporto, no dejéis de pasar por este Bar Restaurante ya que disfrutareis de su gente ya que son toda humildad y te hacen sentir como en casa y su Gastronomía es Riquisiiiima.

Fuimos tras leer las reseñas de internet, y la verdad es que nos sorprendió mucho. La atención inmejorable, muy atentos y la comida muy buena. Fuimos dos adultos y dos niños, y comimos muy bien a precio justo. Sitio familiar de los que quedan pocos, comida muy rica y todos contentos con la comida tanto grandes y pequeños. Fuimos sobre las 20h para cenar y no había nadie, luego ya se animó y se llenó. Lo recomiendo sin duda para probar el ‘bacalao a braga’ y pagar muy poco.

Came here for lunch after seeing the several good reviews here. Upon asking the waiter for recommendations for the fish, he said the first four fish dishes on the menu are "good" without any explanations, which meant his "recommendation" was pretty useless. Same went for the meat. So we randomly ordered the dorada fish and beef tenderloin. The fish was alright but the beef was overcooked making it too dry and tough. The most infuriating thing that contributed to the overall unpleasant meal experience, though, was how staff/boss charged us 0.6euro each for TAP water. They also refused to refill our glass of tap water, urging us instead to buy bottles of water from them. Moreover, the bread basket that was delivered when we sat down, 4 pieces for about 2 euros, seems a bit much. They were also extremely dry and tough, as if they had been stored for a long time. If you don't want to pay for the overpriced bread, be sure not to touch it at all. All in all, we found the place shady in conducting their business and food was just mediocre. There are some much better home-style restaurants in Porto.

My partner and I stumbled across this gem on a recent trip to Porto as we finished a leg of the Camino de Santiago. Not only was it one of the best meals of our entire trip, but it was also one of the very best experiences: the family who runs the restaurant were some of the kindest, most hospitable, and most welcoming people we've ever met, and made us feel completely at home. Their food is seriously extraordinary. Don't skip the incredible homemade desserts! And our meal was super affordable. I hope this little restaurant will soon get the recognition and accolades it deserves.

Very much recommended! I do not understand why it was not completely full when I passed it, perhaps because it’s not the most touristic spot, but I am very happy it wasn’t. This is an honest, family run restaurant, right around the corner from the more touristic streets. The mother prepares the food, the two sons serve and the father is the manager of the place. The service is perfect, both sons are very kind and speak perfect English. They will do everything they can to make you feel at home. Do not expect Michelin star food, but proper, fresh, home-style comfort food. With some advice from the waiter, I choose the octopus and I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite of it! When I finished my meal, I was in for one last surprise when the bill arrived. At 18 euros for a generous portion of octopus (one of the more expensive dishes on the menu), a beer, half a liter of wine and a coffee, I almost felt like I was robbing the place.
