A place where you can have Porto's traditional food all night long (at least until 6 in the morning), and with a quite good quality. Another positive aspect is the fact it isn't pretentious at all - simple (the space, the staff and the guests) and zero 'wannabe fancy' (as, unfortunately, less and less which nowadays appear in town - more worried to show off than to assure an intrinsic quality on what they serve). Points to improve: it should smell better (more fresh air would be welcome), and the light nowadays is too bright (before was much better, far coozier). Filetes de Bacalhau (too difficult to find nowadays) is a must, here.

O horário noturno e alargado até às 5:00h é das poucas coisas positivas. A Francesinha foi das PIORES que já comi, linguiça "FRESCA" com sabor a ranço, apesar dos 40minutos de espera e sendo eu dos poucos clientes na sala (pensei que estavam a produzir oa linguiça na hora)... Comida "diminuta" com preços bem "generosos".

The food was great and it's a very cosy place for a dinner with friends. It only opens after 9pm and the prices are on the medium range. If you are with a large group it's better to make reservations.

Une super adresse authentique pour se régaler des spécialités Portugaises et locales. Quelques mets végétariens (champignons à l’étouffée, soupe de légumes...). Le gérant nous a accueilli chaleureusement et nous a donné de très bons conseils (notamment sur une bière locale fumée). Les plats sont très copieux, malheureusement nous n’avons pas pu goûter les desserts qui avaient l’air succulent. Prix très raisonnables. Le gérant parle anglais et français. Vraiment bon moment. Merci.

Nice option for eating late at night. Staff was very friendly, offered us some Portuguese starters, which was well done since my sister was visiting Porto for the first time. We have spend there few hours just because we felt so comfortable. Good thing for smokers is you can smoke at the bar and not to freeze outside. Well recommended!

Pode-se ir tarde da noite. Super cheio mas agradável. Pequeno mas é possível ser atendido no balcão. Há boa vontade por parte da equipa. As comidinhas são gostosas, não é o menor preço mas é um bom custo benefício.

A tiny restaurant with a tiny bar. It is very cozy and family driven. The owners are in their advanced age and are very welcoming. Their traditional Francesinha with pork stake is one of the best I have experienced. It has quality ingredients and a smooth palate. The sauce is just spicy enough and thick, which I absolutely love! Everything tastes home made, and the french fries taste just like my mom use to make them for me! With drinks and all, a group of four paid around 60€. Recommended.

Family owned. Father and son run the joint. We came here for a late night dinner. Doesn’t open till 9pm. The door is locked and you have to be let in or reach your hand through the window to open the door. Serves home cooked traditional Portuguese food. Simple style. We had the tripe and veal. Food was explained carefully with pride. They also have Franchesinha. Open late till 5am. They told us that the reason they started the late night dining was to adapt to the fact that previously there was major construction on their street and during that time they almost went bankrupt and they petitioned city hall for a late night permit and it has worked out well for them and the patrons!

An excellent experience at PAJU. We were welcomed by the most adorable host, George, who suggested us some of the wonderful Portughese delicacies. We had a selection of starters by the chef and then we had pork cheeks. They tasted amazing. The evening was wonderful and spirited. Take a trip to PAJU because it is worth every single minute.

Nice place for after midnight meal. You have to ring the bell to open the door which is nice. They only work from 9pm to 5am. The owner was nice prepared something traditional for us. The price is slightly high but normal to pay when you can have a proper meal at 3am !

Nice place to go if you want some desend food on un-ordinarily hours. It bit more expensive then other places but then again you can.have a meal at 3 in the morning. Small and cosy, special bears, possible to pay with card not far from the city centre

Day 14. Left Lisbon this morning and stopped in Aveido on our way to Porto. It was raining in Porto and all I wanted to do was closed myself in my room and have some alone time. Possibly fall asleep and wake up in the morning (with it still raining) and leave. I'm pretty sure Bri felt the same way. I had already had what I believe to be my highlight of the day which was a moment with Bri at a gelato / coffee place in Aveido where we were both fully present and having a great conversation about life, the universe, and everything. If you know me well enough you know I'm all about the human connection. Then we hit the road and head to Porto. Traffic was crazy in the city and finding our place was a pain in the neck and once inside the warm dry place I just wanted to hunker down for the night. After a little rest I started to feel the call of Porto. I wanted to head to the Ribeira area but it was a little over a mile walk and the rain was nasty. We could have taken an Uber but I got on google to see what was closer. I find this approx 249 feet away from our AirBnB. 4.5 Stars, 121 reviews. I start reading the reviews and this place looks amazing. I check the hours and see that it is open from 9pm to 5am. Yes ... 9 in the evening to 5 in the morning. I'm intrigued and now I have to go there. Of course it is only 8:30pm so we have to wait a while for it to open. Which we do and then we head on over there just a little after 9pm. So we arrive ... yes it was about 249 feet away, plus or minus a few feet. There is a door but no way to open it. I look inside and don't see anyone. But I see a doorbell and I ring it. A moment later a gentleman comes around the corner and opens the door to let us in. We are the only 2 people there. We pick out our seats and he brings us menus. We ask him about his recommendations and also tell him what we have heard. So we start off with a bottle of red wine from Duas Quintas in Douro called Ramos Pinto. I don't know much about wine, but it was delicious. And Paulo, the proprietor, says it is his favorite. He then brings us these little breads I think called brow, but I can't remember. They are flaky bread crust with sausage and pork stuffed in it. Then he brings us these green eggs which are hard boiled eggs stuffed with sausage like stuff and then lightly fried until just golden brown. Then a creamy potato and cabbage soup. All of these things he tells us about the tradition and how he makes this and that from scratch or has people make things for his shop with his specification just like his mom used to make for him. And then he brings us this sandwich called a Francesinha (pictured). It is a sandwich with sausage, pork, and ham on bread with cheese and this gravy all over it. It was sooooo delicious. All the while he is talking to us and telling us about his place. He has owned for 36 years. At 2am he turns off the lights and just uses candles to light the place. At first this was because he only had a license to operate until 2am. Now he can operate it all night with lights but he still turns them off at 2 am and uses candles. Bri and I both connected with Paulo and really appreciated his taking the time to share with us all of the tradition and history behind the food and his business. And in the end it was getting late for us and I took an amazing piece of chocolate cake to eat back at our AirBnB. Paulo if you can read this it was the best chocolate cake ever and Pajú is now my favorite restaurant. If I wake up in the middle of the night I just might head over there for a nightcap. So there it is ... day 14 highlight. Not too many days left here. Today I started missing home for the first time. See you all New Years Eve if I can stay awake!

Incredible service and better yet food. It’s a family business - small, tidy and really cozy place. We ordered the Cataplana de Cação - it was not in the menu and they’ve charged us according to the number of people in the table. Delicious food. I can’t recommend it enough.

The owner makes food with his heart and passion, it simply is an artwork. Highly recommended for those of you who wish to have authentic Portuguese cuisine. You can definitely taste the difference in food quality compared to majority of other restaurants in the city center. For someone who has eaten cuisines from all over the work, Paju has definitely set a hallmark for Portuguese cuisine for myself.

Ora bem, são duas da manhã e apetece jantar!? É aqui! (O cheirinho do peixe da mesa ao lado também convenceu.) Mas fui lá pela Francesinha e valeu a pena. O molho é excelente, e é sempre o molho que faz a grande diferença entre as mil francesinhas disponíveis na cidade. A sanduíche em si é leve e saborosa. Claro que não é a mais barata da zona, mas também nos é servida a horas de estar na caminha!

Em minha opinião a melhor francesinha da cidade do Porto para quem buscar qualidade e não quantidade. O seu tamanho é perfeito para o bom apreciador. A carne de lombo com que é confeccionada faz toda a diferença e confere-lhe o requinte que é possível dar a uma iguaria simples como é e deve continuar a ser a francesinha. A simpatia com que é servida faz também parte da tradição e sinto legitimidade para falar nisso porque sou cliente há mais de duas décadas e ela nunca faltou.

Quando dá aquela fomeca durante a madrugada é o sítio de eleição.
