OPORTO IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE. Nonetheless, Margarida (I guess an employee from the property) and the cleaning lady whom took care of the apartment twice during our 5 days stay, were about the best in this place. The apartment was small, bedrooms had no doors. Only two electrical heaters per apartment (no central heat or air conditioner) Bathroom had problems with the toilet; they moved us to another but the brakers kept on tripping all night and we just had to sleep with covers to resist temperatures of 4 degrees C. One of us developed fever and strong coughing, hope it is not serious. By the way, they wanted us to pay in cash before showing us the apartment and said credit card terminal wasn't working. I rejected paying cash. Finally they managed to make the terminal work. I paid the full amount by credit card but they didn't give me an invoice saying they would send it by e-mail. I'm still waiting. The charge was through a company called Vintage Oporto. To communicate with management had to be via SMS or using my cell. Of course all these should've alert us but due to the dates (Dec 29th...specially on the 31st), being in an unknown city, and that they already had my credit card number in a non refundable deal, didn't give me a margin to try to find a different property.

Well, it started out well until the landlord tried to steal my deposit and it took 5 months to get it back. Margarida was very accommodating, nice and friendly. She even let me have a party on the rooftop patio until 3am.
However, when I went to check out, she said that there was a miscommunication with her bookkeeper and she did not have the deposit in cash. Not having any reason to suspect her motives, I asked if I could leave my credit card number with her and if she could refund the money later. She said yes. Then I left the country to return to the USA. A week or 2 later I inquired about my deposit. Margarida said she was still working on it. I inquired again a few days later and she said she needed bank account information because the credit card info wasn't going to work. I sent what she needed. I kept emailing and calling for about 2 months. Eventually she stopped responding entirely. Then I turned to Uniplaces support and let them deal with it. It still took another 3 months before they were able to extract the money from Margarida.
It's also worth noting that Margarida made a scheduling excuse with another tenant to avoid returning the deposit. Having dealt with her already, I warned this person against trusting her. The tenant refused to return the keys until she received her deposit. Upon hearing that, suddenly the scheduling wasn't a problem anymore.
So, in conclusion, I would assume sleep on the streets of Porto before returning to this apartment.

António Artur Diegues is a slumlord, not a landlord. He is stingy and greedy and it is immediately apparent on walking into any of his properties. The bed was literally too short for me to extend my legs, and I am only 180cm. At first I was not concerned because the slumlord told me that he had purchased a new bed and that it was to be delivered immediately but it became obvious that he had simply lied. The same issue occurred with basic kitchen utensils, which were not equipped.
The wi-fi was only functional half the time, and did not reach into the whole apartment even though it was "included" in the rent, so I was forced to get an expensive cell phone plan and tether it. The furniture was sub-standard and some of it was broken. There was literally an aggressive pipe threatening to poke my eye out in the shower, which the slumlord failed to fix. Plastic old toilet seat.

I checked in 2nd May 2017 to find no one manning the reception we had to wait till 23.00 hrs to get into what I can only describe as a cell as in a jail (I have never been to jail but I am sure its better than this) it had only one small window in the bedroom the so called kitchen under the stairs was a joke the sink wouldnt drain out the washing machine never worked during my stay I complained and nothing happened, the microwave didnt work the hot water tank leaked and there had to be a bucket under it to catch the drips, the bathroom was tiny but the shower and sink worked, the WC would hardly flush it was all damp and smelt of this, the furniture was ready for the tip. I paid good money for this and my friend too was disgusted, so am I. I highly do NOT recommend this Oporto Heritage River View (what views a gap in the houses next door) apartments.
