I have been looking ideas for a restaurant in the Alcoutim area to have lunch soon and I have just read the owner's response to the negative review written by Rich C six months ago from now (June 2019). What a response!! I will certainly no be visiting SHIVA if this is the way the owner thinks of his customers.

Excellent and tasty main courses, rice and naan good, shame pickles a bit disappointing, but good service.

Sorry but nothing special. Out of season so only me and owner/chef/waiter. I heard the sound of the microwave so not a good sign. No atmosphere, poor ambiance, cold lighting, rather cold sitting at table, tv on with some kind of rapping Indian music videos. Every so often a loud noise from kitchen area. Perhaps a fridge compressor noisy. Very intrusive. No attempt to ask if I wanted desserts or coffee. Decent man who runs the place but not again - sorry but could do better.

really nice food and very polite and friendly staff. food is well priced. this is the best place to eat in alcoutim for sure,we come here every night.

Horrível!!! O empregado que servia às mesas era o que preparava a comida, de chinelos e calções com a agravante de não falar português! A comida parecia que tinha sido reaquecida. Espaço com pouca iluminação. Não gostei!

A comida é boa, pessoal simpático.

Ambiente simples mas agradavel com empregados cordiais e eficientes. Comida indianana bem confeccionada, muito saborosa com graus de picante à escolha. Vale a pena experimentar.

Sorprendido encontrar auténtica comida India en un pueblo tan pequeño pero tan encantador portugués: sus cazuelas, su variedad de panes hindús, pero cuidado pedir "sin" picante para el que no esté acostumbrado.... Y es que su propietario/cocinero es hindú. Recomendable para variar alguna vez de la maravillosa comida portuguesa.

Excellent food, surprisingly authentic for a small town in Portugal. Excellent vegetarian options, which is sometimes hard to find in this area. A+.

No tiene mucha afluencia de público. La última vez comimos solos. La comida está bien pero se echa de menos un poco más de variedad, sobre todo en la parte de bebidas... Personalmente, cuando voy a un indu me gusta tomarme una cobra mejor que una sagres

The food was great, but we were a big party and there were no staff, just the owner. This meant we had no-one to serve drinks whilst the owner was in the kitchen preparing 15 meals. As this was a birthday party, it would have been nicer if he had hired someone for a couple of hours to serve us drinks.

Very pleasantly surprised as in the UK we are spoilt for choice when it comes to Indian restaurants. However, this little place was really very good. My wife and I went for a Saturday lunchtime curry and the food was excellent, (chicken madras, chicken bhuna, Bombay potatoes and Peshawari nan bread) all served very promptly and you could hear it was being freshly cooked. The owner/chef was very friendly and chatted with us after our meal. The Bombay potatoes were initially missing but this was quickly rectified. If I have any criticism it was that the poppadoms could do with a variety of pickles etc, they were served with one very thin mango? sauce. If there had been some onion, lime pickle, mango chutney, raita etc the meal would have been perfect. Still very good and we will definitely be visiting again.

Service aimable et rapide alors qu' on avait attendu dans un restaurant voisin sans être servis !... Nourriture correcte et bon marché.

I was really looking-forward to visiting this restaurant after reading great reviews online, but as we arrived at an early 9.30pm on a Friday night they were turning off the lights and locking the doors - they'd closed! The member of staff, to be fair, did apologise and explained they were "bored" - I imagine it wasn't a busy night. Still, very disappointing since I'd made the effort to check opening times beforehand!

No pudimos ni probarlo, llegamos este viernes pasado a las 21:30 y nos cerró en la cara. Que llevaban ahí 2 horas aburridos y que no iban a encender todo para solo dos personas. Entonces no pongas que cierras a las 23:45!!! Lamentable y vergonzoso.

Excellent Indian restaurant, with a lovely atmosphere. Good choice of menu at very reasonable prices and very good tasty food. I can recommend the pashwari nan. The owner and chef Ravi was very helpful and polite and could not do enough to make us feel welcome. Overall a lovely dining experience.

Wij zijn enorm goed bediend en hebben voortreffelijk gegeten bij Restaurant Shiva. Ook de sfeer was erg goed en gastvrij. Lamsvlees was verrukkelijk en de pistache icecream fantastish! Geweldige avond gehad! Dankjewel Ravi!!!

Para adeptos de temperos mais suaves, recomendo Madras, enquanto que entusiastas de comida picante devem optar por Vindaloo ou Rogan Josh. Opções vegetarianas. As chamuças (sejam de vegetais ou de frango) são saborosas, com diversos molhos a acompanhar. O pão Naan (com ou sem alho) é cozinhado na perfeição. O arroz basmati acompanha bem qualquer dos pratos. Nas sobremesas, destaco o delicioso e tradicional Gulab Jamun. EN: Wide array of Indian dishes, for fans of lamb, chicken or prawn. For those who prefer softer seasonings I recommend Madras, while those who are spicy food enthusiasts should go for the Vindaloo or Rogan Josh. Vegetarian options. The samosas (both vegetable and chicken) are quite tasty, with several sauces as accompaniment. The Naan bread (with or without garlic) is cooked to perfection. The Basmati rice goes well with any dish. Regarding deserts, I highlight the delicious and traditional Gulab Jamun.

Very tasty indian food, spicy to the point, nicely decorated. Good, clean location and friendly service.

Não gostei...a carne do borrego rija, molho muito condimentado e veio apenas uma púcara com molho e uns pedaços de carne... nem arroz à acompanhar! o pão de alho e coentros é aceitável. De um modo geral achei muito caro e desinteressante.

WE ordered food from Shiva to take home and every dish was superb. We thought the value was excellent because each dish was generous and we had enough ( for 2 people) for a second meal the next day. A great find in Alcoutim!
