Very nice people and decent service. They accepted a photo of passport on the mobile phone. The 2 bikes were ok to go to Guincho. Don't expect racing bikes for that price, but no gear bikes are good enough for basic use. A little bell could help pushing away pedestrians on the path.

As bicicletas são más, incómodas e faltam adereços como a campainha, ademais no caminho indo ao Guincho, as pessoas parecem não saber andar nas vias destinadas aos peões e invadem as vias para bicicletas.

When in Cascais - might be interesting to rent a bike and see the surrounding area this way. They built quite nice cycling paths along the coast. We got our bike for a reasonable price (6€/day, there’s an option for 2€/hour). Surprisingly cycling up the hill wasn’t too strenuous, considering you have only one gear on the bike. They accepts cards as a payment and will ask for one ID, before they give you your bikes. After they write the details down, they will hand the ID card back to you. Only downside was that none of the hiring stations had a lock available (rent: 1€), so if we wanted to go anywhere one person had to stay with the bikes. This was quite inconvenient. Note: we have later learned it is illegal to cycle in Portugal on pedestrian pavements (which we might have occasionally done due to the traffic). I’m glad we didn’t get a fine for that.
