El Museo del Fado (en portugués, Museu do Fado) fue inaugurado el 25 de septiembre de 1998 y es un museo dedicado al mundo del fado y de la guitarra portuguesa. El museo se ubica en el barrio de Alfama de la ciudad de Lisboa, Portugal.
El edificio del museo fue en otro tiempo la estación de bombeo de agua del recinto de Praia. Fue construido en 1868 y está clasificado como inmueble de interés público.

We were new to fado music so visiting this museum seemed like a must given its huge role in the Portuguese culture. It's a simple museum that will probably only take you one hour to complete. It's also very budget-friendly. I believe it was three or four euros per visitor. There was a mini video and several art pieces showing the prominence of fado music. My only suggestion would be that they could use more interactive pieces. It's definitely a museum geared for adults and even then, I wouldn't have minded some form of hands-on experience.

Visita imprescindible si eres un amante del fado y de la cultura fadista. La audio guía es completa y muy necesaria para recorrerlo. Puedes incluso oír fados con ella mientras haces la visita. El personal, encantador. Muy recomendable esta visita.

Tour from HELL! Seriously the worst EVER! no kidding, our bus arrived at noon, as being expected to arrive an hour and a half earlier. To add insult to the injury, no one would answer the phone at the agency. Together about twenty tourists stood in the sun baking, waiting, with nowhere to sit, and of course no bathrooms or water refreshments nearby.
We stood patiently waiting just under the Arc de Triomphe. When the bus arrived the coordinator played down the incovience, and went about ignoring everyones concern. We arrived at our destination within a few minutes, since it was only about ten miles from the pick up location. We were then told that we received SKIP THE Line passes and he would have to go get our tickets. Fifteen minutes later he returned stating we are going to have some free time and we needed to return to the location at one twenty since we missed our appointment due to lateness of our arrival. Weird as it seems we followed the guides directions and waited. We made our way back outside the gates at the appointed time, and waited until about one thirty for our guide to reappear. He now appears to be working to obtain our tickets to enter the venue. We will then become instructed to form a single file line to enter. Now it's about quarter till two and six or seven groups of 6, 7, 8 year olds are cutting out line making entry. This was CHAOS, we got to now pass the security check point. Ok, now it's two o'clock and we are told to wait for our guide radios. SURPRISE, this became a self guided tour with no maps just to follow everyone else. That's right the blind leading the blind. Some of the display rooms became packed with over a hundred on lookers browsing or worst yet, stopping for selfies, not one or two but several. STUPID is what stupid does. OK, we have made it through three floors and nourmerious
red herrings dead ends and empty spaces. Now nearing three thirty-five we discovered the on site bistro. Today's saving grace, this was a splendid place to relax get a drink, something to eat, and wonder how many people are still churning wandering about the rooms. Since we were promised a return bus ride and it was already four thirty we knew we needed to arrive at the appointed location before five o'clock, or the bus would leave without us. Well, wouldn't you know it, five o'clock and no bus. We have about thirty people waiting, at about five thirty a mini bus, a twenty passenger bus arrives and we are told that there is another bus arriving in three minutes. Ok, it was more like ten, and now it's almost six o'clock we are on our way back, the bus temperature inside is steaming hot, the bus has a broken air conditioner. We now have people bailing off with the temp to high and the driver has no clue how to activate the ac. This trip stinks.

Sai de lá quase uma expert em Fado. Bem localizado, preço de ingressos acessível, há um dia gratuito. Assistir ao filme de diversos fadistas retratados no tempo é um espetáculo, me emocionei muito, considerando ser a primeira vez que tive contato com o fado. As galerias de fotos são bastante expressivas, o acesso interno é bem iluminado, os funcionários são receptivos e é muito bem localizado no Alfama. Volto lá para me encantar novamente.

Piccolo museo ma davvero grazioso se si vuole conoscere e approfondire cos'è e cosa è stato il Fado. È possibile ascoltare i brani più famosi di cantanti come Amalia Rodriguez e di molti altri. Personalmente mi ha incuriosito tant'è che al bookshop ho comprato un cd con i pezzi più classici di questo genere. Lo consiglio di vedere prima di farsi un giro per il quartiere che ha dato i natali a diversi cantanti di fado.

I had an interest in Fado, having heard some previously. I'd always put it in the category 'Portuguese Blues', which it is. But the story is more complicated. It is the music of the poor working class, but was taken up by the Dictator Salazar as a symbol of Portugal. Come the revolution, it fell out of favour, but then underwent a Renaissance. The museum itself, charts the history of Fado, in a sometimes good, sometimes stilted sort of way. There is a theatre cum recording studio in the building where live broadcasts go out. I really enjoyed the place and followed up via iTunes! Here is some good stuff on the instruments used and loads of name to chase up on the internet. They also have a decent shop where you can get some of the Fado CDs. Well worth a visit.

I love FADO! I didn't know much about it up until a few days ago, but a friend recommended some music and I just happened upon this museum. Lots of history, you can sit and listen to many different artists and only 5 euro. I would recommend to anyone interested in Fado or music in general.

Estuvimos en el restaurante del museo con la suerte de que ése día había música en directo. Una chica cantando fado acompañada de dos hombres a la guitarra. Grand bâtiment mais musée et collection toute petite. Pas d’intérêt selon moi, mes audio guides sont lents et les explications beaucoup trop denses pour pas grand chose. Beaucoup de tableaux alors que ce n’est pas ce que j’attendais. Pas assez dynamique à mon goût. Il fait chaud aussi à l’intérieur, la visite devient penible.

Very interesting and informative museum. Attractive, well located and well maintained building. I enjoyed the scale of this museum - a bit smaller and more approachable than some others. Ein kleines, aber feines Museum des Fado und seiner Künstler direkt am Fuße der Alfama und damit für Touristen günstig erreichbar. Gezeigt werden auch Ausstellungsstücke, die zwar mit Musik, aber nicht nur mit Fado zu tun haben. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!

I like Fado and was looking forward to my visit. I felt underwhelmed. Very scanty content, signage difficult to read, audio guide didn't work well. Frustratingly there were visuals of fado singers but apparently no audio for them. Disappointed.

Museo carino: se si è a Lisbona ed avanza del tempo... È piuttosto piccolo, quindi basta poco per girarlo. Però, con l'auricolare che viene fornito, si possono ascoltare un'infinita di brani, quindi ci si può passare anche molto tempo, seduti ad ascoltare i brani più significativi di questo genere musicale

Es interesante ver la "historia" que comienza a tejerse al rededor de una tradición, en este caso la música. El lugar es agradable y moderno, tienen algunos antecedentes del origen mismo pero no sé hace claridad. Deberían dar más información, o mostrar investigación al rededor del tema. Lo recomiendo porque hace parte de la historia porque el Fado hace parte de la historia íntima de Portugal y ahora de la humanidad, puesto que la Unesco declaró la música como patrimonio intangible

Мой отзыв скорее всего потонет в бурном потоке хвалебных завываний- таких же как и сама музыка, точнее стиль, Fado...Если бы музей не входил в набор туристической карты Лиссабона( кстати, совершенно не нужна) или не был бесплатным для Португальцев - он был бы пустой.... Делать там нечего. Смотреть обложки от дисков...Шаржи на певиц...гитары под стеклом.Все это на большого знатока и чванливого любителя.Если с целью ознакомления со стилем - то сходите вечерком к Лифту Санта-Жушта- там, хотя бы живьем поют молодые ребята- им не жалко дать денег!

I came here because I wanted to learn more about fado but didn’t have the budget to get a seat at nice fado houses for a live performance. €5/adult and comes with English audio guide is very good value of money for me. The museum was beautiful and clean, relatively small. Even though it’s limited in size but the museum gave a good introduction about fado, its origin, related art work and famous artists. You can listen to many samples of fado music from the audio guide. There was a video on display at the auditorium that is about how the fado singers and guitar players are so fascinated by this music and performance experience. Personally, I think the museum could be more lively if there were more events going on, but maybe the best way is still to go to a fado house and immerse in it!

Das Museum ist in Alfama an der Küste Lisboas d.h. am Flussdelta nicht am Atlantik un trotzdem fast mitten in Zentrum der Altstadt.
5 Eu. Eintritt.
Das Museum ist gepflegt klein und gut.
Dieser Altstadtteil ist z.T. sehr touristisch geworden. Viel Kitsch und wirklich miserables Essen.
Ein Spaziergang lohnt sich den noch.

O Museu do Fado foi inaugurado a 25 de setembro de 1998 e é um Museu consagrado ao Universo do Fado e da Guitarra. O Museu localiza-se no Bairro da Alfama em Lisboa. Este espaço cultural conta com uma exposição permanente, um espaço de exposições temporárias, um centro de documentação, uma loja temática, um auditório, um restaurante e a escola do Museu, onde são ministrados cursos de Viola de Fado e Guitarra portuguesa e onde é possível frequentar um seminário de letristas. A escola disponibiliza igualmente um gabinete para ensaios de intérpretes. Desde 2016 a escola disponibiliza através da internet um Arquivo Sonoro Digital com acesso a milhares de registos sonoros desde o início do século XX.

FADOのことを殆ど知らなくても、オーディオ機器で音楽(歌や演奏)を聞けるので、一見の価値はあります。
日本語解説はありませんが、大きなパネル写真の歌手や奏者の番号を入れて聴くことができます。
シアターコーナーでは、多くの有名な演奏者が「FADO」とは何か？を語っていました。(英語字幕でしたが)

I am originally from Lisbon, this was my first time at the museum.
It was insightful but I would have liked to see more relatable content. I felt it was very technical and there are loads of
Portuguese guitars but lacks in history and social context. Would have been nice to see more of the fado on the streets, fado houses, and social culture around fado.

This little museum shows the history and traditions of Lisbon. Fado is the traditional song genre in Lisbon and in my opinion this is a must see to not skip in your visit in Lisbon. The museum is small but shows many aspects of Fado and the entrance fee is 3 euros for under 25 y/o. After the Museum it's highly suggested to witness in real life the Fado, asking suggestions to local people.

Very cool place to visit and we really enjoyed going here. However, they should be a little more tourist friendly. They use a remote-like device for you to hear all of the fado recordings as you’re waking through the tour. But, you need WiFi in order to download e app on your phone and make it work. For anyone who, like us, does not have any service in Portugal, it makes it difficult to 100% enjoy everything the museum has to offer.
Otherwise, something very special and recommend.

Delusione totale!!!
Ci sono stata 9 anni fa,spettacolo sul palco con gruppo coinvolgente , molto emozionante.Desideravo tornarci.
3 giorni fa invece,cena standard,poco tipica, locale pieno oltre ogni possibilità, impossibile muoversi, utilizzato persino il palco per tavoli strettissimi.
Spettacolo con solo alcuni artisti a livello tavoli .
Impossibile in una condizione così "pigiata" apprezzare il Fado!
Non ci tornerei più .

Wonderful museum describing how Fado music started and developed into what it is today. Had many instruments on display with audio examples from different artists. They showed a movie explaining the Fado music. Small museum but full of information and great displays.

Visited this lovely presentated museum of fado with friends. Didn't know anything about fado but one of our friends wanted to visit so we went along. Lovely entrance to the museum and handy head sets easy to work but don't rush this museum. Was lovely to see a father and daughter their obviously fado lovers and bringing back many happy memories for them both.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed it and will go back again when visiting Lisbon. Oh and have bought 2 fado cds by Amelia Rodriguez brilliant.

Perdersi una mattina in questo museo significa arricchire le proprie conoscenze musicali. L'audioguida in inglese o spagnolo aiuta a muoversi, ma consiglio di seguire un proprio percorso personale ascoltando i brani scelti. Da non perdere i commenti degli attuali artisti che spiegano quali doti occorrano per praticare l'arte del Fado.

SO uma estrela pois no dia 09 do corrente fui para ir visitar o muse é só para o Conselho de Lisboa gratuito e eu e quem me acompanhava somos do Conselho de Torres novas apesar de pensionistas tínhamos de pagar.sou a favor do utilizador pagadortopedia mas com preços decentes.foi uma boa imagem para o casal de estrangeiros que recusaram pagar uma verba exorbitante a outros monumentos visitados.a vereação da câmara municipal de Lisboa deve estar entregue a pessoas que fizeram a vida da escola sem experiencia de vida.Nos países com EUA e RU os idosos são considerados sábios pelo seu historial de vida aqui parafraseando um certo deputado lá para os lados de Gouveia eleito pelo distrito da Guarda que os grisalhos são um peste nacional .Que pena este país ter esta mentalidade.Que tristeza!!!

Alfama é considerada a verdadeira casa do fado e este museu retrata a influência que este sempre popular e emocionante género musical teve na cidade nos dois últimos séculos. Uma exposição permanente com a história do género musical desde as origens do século XIX até ao presente, desde Maria Severa, a primeira grande fadista, até nomes mais contemporâneos como Amália e Mariza. Ao longo do ano é possível visitar exposições temporárias bem como assistir a atuações ao vivo.

Fado, bir tanesi Portekiz Gitarı (12 telli olmasına rağmen 6 telli bir gitar gibi akorlanır ve şekli uda benzer) ve diğeri klasik gitar olan iki enstrüman eşliğinde, genellikle bir kişi tarafından söylenen ve başlangıcının 1820’li yıllara dayandığı söylenen Portekiz halk müziğidir. Fado kelimesi Latince kader anlamına gelen Fatum’dan türemiştir. 19. yy başlarında, denize uğurladıkları ve dönmelerini umutla bekledikleri kocalarının ve sevgililerinin bir daha geri gelememeleri üzerine Lizbon’lu kadınların denize karşı yaktıkları ağıtlardan türemiştir. Bu nedenle sözleri hüzün, özlem ve kaderciliği içeren melankolik bir müzik türüdür. Daha sonraları işçi sınıfının sosyal adaletsizliğe isyanı, üzüntü ve hayal kırıklıklarını anlattığı şarkılarla içeriği biraz daha genişlemiştir. Denizcilerin evlerinin genellikle Mouraria’da olması nedeniyle Fado’nun bu semtler ve dolayısıyla Lizbon kaynaklı olduğu söyleniyor. Ancak Portekiz’de Lizbon Fadosu ve Coimbra Fadosu olarak iki türü bulunmaktadır. Coimbra Fadosu, bir üniversite kenti olan Coimbra’da öğrencilerin özlemlerin, aşklarını, isyanlarını ve diktatörlüğe direnişlerini anlattıkları şarkılarla doğmuştur. Lizbon Fadosu sadece kadınlar tarafından, Coimbra Fadosu ise sadece erkekler tarafından söylenir. Fadista olarak adlandırılan Fado şarkıcıları ve siyah giysiler içinde şarkılarını söylerler. Très décevant. .. l'accueil vous annonce la couleur : c'est 5 euros interdiction de faire des photos etc... passez à la boutique pour le paiement. ..je n'ai rien appris à part visualiser des guitares et quelques tableaux. . Je n'appelle pas cela un musée du fado mais salle d'exposition ! nous avons dû réclamer le remboursement car entrée gratuite pour PMR bref sans aucun intérêt.

Not a lot to look at but the audio guide sure is great. Don’t go in a rush. Pick a lazy afternoon when you have nothing to do and sit there enjoying the music. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays by the way.

Great modern style museum. It is showing history of Fado music from the beginning till nowadays. After you buy tickets you get a phone style electronic guide. Every single exhibit has it own number that you type into the electronic guide that tells you the story. There is a interesting film projections. The museum offers a wide varieties of exhibitions. From guitars to fotos and music albums. At the end you can buy disks with Fado music. I highly recommend going there to learn about an interesting genera of music.

Quaint little museum with gift store all centered around FADO music and it's role in Potugeses culture. A wonderful depiction of Potugese culture orally transmitted via music. Compared to U.S. music, it is a blues like music with usually a Portugese guitar, Spanish guitar and sometimes a bass providing background music for a singer who renders songs depicting life, death, romance and the vicissitudes of life. Very melancholy. I am not sure why it has not become more popular in U.S..
