Our stay at Casa Mae was incredible. The environment was beautiful, comfortable, and serene in every way. The hotel is within walking distance to the main parts of town - which were of course, also stunning. Couldn't recommend this place enough!! Really made our stay feel luxurious, without it being too expensive.

Nice place, good location, but poor service and overpriced. Most of the staff are lovely, but unfortunately they are let down by the attitude of the manager. As others have highlighted, the hotel made an error with our booking but didn't care and didn't do anything to resolve it. We even asked to speak to the owner, but never heard from them. We had breakfast on day 1 and found out it was overpriced and poor quality, so didn't eat there again. My coffee was burnt and very bitter, everything else was ok but small portions for the prices they charge, especially compared with some of the organic restaurant's nearby, which do great quality, low prices and great service. Overall this place has great potential, but at the moment it's style over substance, and is severely let down by the rude manager

A beautiful property and an excellent family vacation! The food and staff were also amazing. By the end of the 5 days we spent they all knew us by name. I cant wait until we can visit again.

Love this place! The staff are fantastic, the decor is chic and in keeping with its surroundings. They have a small but brilliantly crafted wine list, all organic and from artisan producers. Highly recommend!!!

My boyfriend and I have claimed this as our favorite hotel we've ever stayed at! Each detail has been thought about – from the the architecture to the decor to the soap in the shower. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food at the restaurant is tasty and fresh. We also wanted to buy one of everything in the shop! Love that they feature Portuguese artists of all types. Situated within the city walls, it's walking distance to everything in Lagos.

I have been here several times for lunch or coffee. Quality is really good, service is hit and miss. Nice place to relax and unwind. Prices rather steep.

We loved our stay here. The service was outstanding, food was great, and the rooms were lovely. The ambiance of the hotel and especially the room was very modern and relaxing. The freshness of the white with baby blue and light-wood made us feel like we were really sea-side. The lack of a TV, open-bath layout and the natural homemade bath products were a very nice surprise. We ended up buying the beach/tote bag found in the room as a souvenir to remember this place. Most of the non-perfect reviews we've seen sound like they're based on being compared to a big, brand name 5-star hotel. This is a small boutique hotel within the walls of the old city of a small town. Parking for example, is free and walk-able. If you have a lot of luggage, you can pull up to the front door and unload. Massages, you need to give some notice so they can arrange for a masseuse to come in. Choices on the menu might be limited and sometimes unavailable, but again, I prefer to have something local, prepared fresh, and done right. This hotel might not be for everyone, but it has hit every checkbox on our list. We can't wait to plan another trip to the region just to have the pleasure of staying here again.

Really nice place to unwind. I was here during the off peak season and they were very hospitable. One minus was that when we arrived, the whole place lost power for hours. Still a nice place and well designed interior.

Dear reader. If you are reading this that means you are interested in staying at Casa Mae. Do not think any longer and do so! That place is in my top 3 of all times. Everybody has different experiences, but mine at Casa Mãe was flawless. Maybe that is because i was there in the winter, late January, so it was extremely chill! Depends what kind of traveler you are and what you need. I was aiming for peace and relaxation and thats what i got. From the moment we arrived, untill the moment we left we were treated with kindness. Rodrigo welcomed us with an amazing Portugese white wine, set with us to explain us about the surroundings and what is nice to see. Not many people do that. We stayed in the premium double room, which was heaven. We had a bath in the room and a balcony with a hammock!!! Everything was minimal, clean and tastefully decorated with design decor from local Portugese artists, so the room was fantastic!!! The whole concept of this place is very artistic and stylish, but still layedback. There is even a concept store /shop where you can buy the design products! Do not expect cheapness, since this place is all about heaven for the eyes, and that never comes cheap. As for the restaurant, everything they make is made with local products feom their own garden!! If you appreciate all the things i mentioned and its within your budget, you should not think twice about staying at Casa Mãe. Last but not least, with check out, Rodrigo gaves a list with recommendations what to see and where to eat in Lisbon too, devided in categories by style of dining, traditional stuff, even hotel recommendations. We actually followed his advices and it was amazing. I am grateful for meeting him and staying in this amazingly stylish and friendly place! Thank you Casa Mãe for the mind blowing experience. We felt like home from the first day!

Beautifully stylish hotel, friendly and attentive staff and delicious food partially sourced from their own vegetable garden...couldn’t ask for more. Try the in-house shower oil made from herbs from the garden and buy a bottle to bring back a bit of the Portuguese magic home.

Such a beautiful and charming property! You can see all the love and care that went into creating this stunning resort, which is why I give this place a solid 5 stars! My only critique would be although everything is beautifully designed, some things aren't as functional as they could be, the key for the room is on a giant key chain, parking is quite the challenge and there's no place to put your luggage in the room. I love this place and will definitely be back!

”MY ROOM IS NOT A STORE” My expectations of the place were much higher in terms of warmth and spirit. It turned out to be quite commercial actually. Nice in the picture, but way too commercial. Everything that you see in the rooms or probably anywhere else at the hotel can be purchased, which is ok, but they actually put things like their magazine and a tote bag inside the room (which at first I mistook for a lovely welcome gift) together with a long price list of everything in the room that you can buy. Well... if I want to buy something, I'd just go to your store (which is just on the ground floor), no need to push any further. Overall it just discouraged me from buying anything there.. The staff is nice and polite, but the whole place is missing the warm community soul it so desperately advertises for on their website.

We had many correspondences with the staff regarding a room that we had booked that we weeent able to stay in because of A/C not working. They then moved us to a new room, near to CONSTRUCTION they are doing on the premises. Not one time in our many correspondences did they mention such construction, or that our new room would be right next to it. We also had an issue where we were unable to stay our first night because of travel issues, and after both the construction and room change issues; they refused to offer us any consolation or discount for the 1st night we didn’t even stay there. I realize they have their own refund protocol and it’s not their fault that we didn’t stay our first night; but after a couple of snafus on their part, one would think they would be more willing to offer some sort of consolation after a bumpy entry into this place. Instead, the concierge defensiey accused me of “blackmail” when I mentioned the possibility of a less than positive review about the issues we had encountered while staying there. I would have written nothing; but as I try to take a nap in this room and can’t because of the banging next door, I just encourage any who are looking to stay here to ask if they’re still doing construction. And also to make sure that you are aware of their strict refund policy.

Incredible boutique hotel in the heart of Lagos. The rooms are really comfortable, minimalistic and all round aesthetically pleasing. The facilities are also great, with a lovely pool and farm-to-table restaurant serving fresh food daily. Would 100% come back for the great hospitality and vibes. More pics on Instagram: @rozarioemma

We ate at Orta, the restaurant at Casa Mae. It was the most beautiful indoor-outdoor spot with delicious local food and personalized service. This was the best meal we had in Lagos by far: nice meal, good atmosphere (specifically the music) and outstanding food! Strong recommend!

Casa Mae was a beautiful hotel and we loved staying in our little cabana! We were a little disappointed with the service. Dinner and breakfast service was very slow as was stated by many others. We booked a yoga class early in the morning and were stood up by the yoga instructor. They didn't really have an explanation or did anything to make up for our waste of time. Pool service was advertised but never provided. If you wanted a drink or food while you were at the pool you had to walk to the main hotel lobby and put an order in. They told us they didn't have anyone available to serve at the pool, which is fine, just take down the menus and the sign that says pool service! When we asked about booking a massage we were told they would have a hard time getting someone to come give us a massage since they don't have anyone in house. Which again is fine but they shouldn't be advertising that you can get a spa service when there is no one to do it. Then after we left the hotel we were charged for taking things from the room that we didn't take. They corrected it but again did nothing about it. Beautiful hotel, not so great service.

I absolutely love this hotel. We stayed in the main building and the minimalist design was awesome! I loved having the tub in the room, the shower where I could see out the window, and the hammock on the porch. While I loved the room, the real star of the show was the restaurant. I could have eaten every mean I had in Lagos there (I didn’t because I wanted to explore the city - but it was that good!) One teeeny tiny critique (but not enough to dock the score) is they don’t supply conditioner. They have body wash and shampoo made for them and I loved the products. But my hair was kind of like straw at the end of my stay. A problem I could have easily fixed by dropping into a convenience store. Just something for long haired people to be aware of!

Great zen feel of hotel. However room is to ultra modern with the vanity, shower and toilet literally in the hotel room allowing no privacy and no place to set luggage or toiletries. Need more furniture for big, nice terrace. Says gym, but it is just an open room. Dinner service was horrible and "farm to table" dinner sucked. And they charge for breakfast even though they don't tell you that until you check out.

We spent two nights at Casa Mae for our honeymoon trip and the entire visit was lovely. The Casa Mae property is beautifully cared for. The gardens, pathways, pool (we visited in November and didnt use the pool, but it was beautiful), and of course the room were are meticulously maintained and very comfortable. The property is a gem in the tiny alleyways of old Lagos. Its not the easiest place to find, but once you have, they offer parking behind their gated property, and youre in walking distance to the center of town where youll find shops, restaurants and the waterfront. All of the staff was lovely and helpful, the food in Orta was spa quality and delicious. Dont miss their homemade yogurt! We found our brief time in Lagos during off-season to be enchanting. We hiked, enjoyed good food, and indulged in some relaxation at Casa Mae. We highly recommend it!

Simply one of the best boutique hotels out there. Clean, thoughtful design and materials sourced from local artisans. Amazing food from a farm-to-table restaurant with produced sourced from the small farm on property. Beautiful poolside setting next to the city wall, surrounded by trees. Incredibly beautiful property, the gardens, exterior and interior are all perfect. I wouldn’t say it’s 5 star in service or general stay. A few few hospitality could do with improving, as well as the facilités. It’s too basic in sévices and amenities to class as a 5 star. nevertheless I would stay again and would recommend.

Perfect honeymoon getaway. Loved the original house (Casa Mae)) and the architectural detailing of the main building. The rooms are very quirky and Fun but I am not a fan of having the shower stall in the bedroom (it could easily have been turned around and included with the toilet and washbasin to create a proper bathroom). When you go ask for a room overlooking the courtyard.

A collection of artists, builders, and farmers crear a space that’s more than a hotel. Casa Mae is a lifestyle, a sound, a way to eat, and a luxurious experience. Stay away, tourist don’t ruin it.

My wife and I were really looking forth to this stay in Lagos at Casa Mae and at the end of our stay I can safely say that we expected more. Overall friendly staff with others that clearly needed more training. Room was nice but needed some space dedicated to clothes. We basically were using our luggage for our changes. The large tub is nice but we would prefer shelves or closet to use. Liked our breakfast but our dinners there were pricey. For guest traveling with a car this hotel should offer valet parking but they do not! I nearly lost my mind trying to find the remote lot to park our car and made the decision to never use it again while i was there. Called uber every time we needed to get somewhere.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here and we had the best time! The rooms are minimal but perfectly decorated and furnished. The service was top notch as well. They even took the time to bring us a welcome drink and review a map of the city including beaches, shops and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was amazing as well. Most of the food is brought in from one of their gardens. All in all this was easily on of the best hotel experiences we have had and will be back for sure!

We spent our vacation wondering if we were going to find the nice boutique hotels we usually seek out, instead of the masses of giant all-inclusive tourist trap hotels that are everywhere in the algarve, and on our before to last night, here it is. This was absolutely wonderful, to the vibrant, joyful and beautiful staff, great food, and a really Mediterranean room that made me feel like I was in Greece. Beautiful pool area. Only negative is this was not an ideal setting for our 3 year old son, so it was perfect we spent one night here, and perhaps one day return on a couples' vacation :)

This is a nice hotel, but in my opinion it needs a few more things to make it a more pleasant place to stay.On the plus side, this is a quiet hotel just steps from the busy center of Lagos, with clean rooms and a beautiful setting. You can take an easy walk (10 minutes or so) to one small beach, but if you keep walking (20 minutes more) you get to some of Lagos’s most stunning beaches. Restaurants, bars, and stores are all nearby. On the negative side, the room we stayed it (a suite called Poco) was very expensive (almost $400 per night) but not very livable. There was no dresser to put stray clothing in, no closet, very dim lighting, and no decent sitting area other than the bed. There are no coffee makers in the rooms, and since breakfast is not served until 8:00 AM if you happen to wake up earlier than that and need a coffee you are really out of luck. There is no gym. Another con is the breakfast, which we paid for as part of our room rate. First of all, they don’t start serving it until 8:00, which is a long time to wait if you happen to want to get your day started. Then, when you go there at 8:00, it takes about 20 minutes to order and about another 30 minutes to get any food. Too slow. They will also provide one cup of coffee and then charge you 3.50 Euro if you want another one. And then even charged for water!

We loved everything about this hotel ! From the attention to every single detail in the rooms and the common spaces, to the restaurant with homegrown veggies. The style is cosy/minimalist and we loved that there is no tv in the way like anywhere else. Perfect place to relax and unwind. Service is 100% careful and committed to giving us the best experience possible, and I really mean that ! We were part of a 13-people group, with the large inertia a group can have, yet staff was totally helpful and comprehensive even in the least enjoyable moments. Cheers to the staff who even knew our names after day 2 !

More boho than 4 stars. The stay could have been great but was mostly a disapointing experience. The hotel tried to charge us food and drinks we did not take, restaurant bill had more expensive wines so be careful. Special event organised with the hotel went all wrong. Hotel manager was unlikely to help and did not show any sympathy, in spite of emails and discussion with the staff no follow up happened. Still rooms and staff are nice, I enjoyed the efforts on local products.

Wow. What a beautiful hotel and experience. This is a new boutique hotel in Lagos (within the last year). The property is huge, complete with a fantastic restaurant, pool, yoga studio, garden, and more. It was more of an experience than just a hotel stay, the decor is amazing and I hope to be back one day! All of the staff were so kind and accommodating. Definitely a must stay in Lagos, as its right in the heart of the city but acts as an urban oasis

I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Mae. The staff were really friendly and helpful right from the start. They went through the local area with us on a map while we had our welcome drink. We were made to feel at home. The hotel is really simple but nicely decorated. The hammock on the balcony was a really nice feature to relax in in the evenings. They provided shampoo & shower gel especially produced for the hotel, with natural ingredients. The restaurant was very accommodating. They adapted their menu for us to provide a few vegan options. The food was delicious and was made with ingredients from their own farm. Overall a great stay in a hotel that clearly thought about every detail and provide great service.

This was without a doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Here's a little breakdown: Service: All the staff were super accommodating and went out of their way to be helpful, always with a smile! Special shout out to Carlos running point for the bar and restaurant in the evenings. He was interesting, funny and wanted to make sure we had the best time possible. Room: Wow... Plenty of natural light, beautiful modern minimalist aesthetic with locally made natural wood furniture. The open plan layout of the room with the bath and shower opening out was a nice change from the dark shut off rooms typical of other hotels. Restaurant: They have their own (or partnership) organic farm that they source all their food from so the menu is constantly changing based on what is available. Maybe a little more pricey than you might expect but it is totally worth it, the food was some of the best we had while in Portugal! Shared space: Again, beautiful furniture, super clean and elegantly put together. Hotel itself: Their mission of supporting local (as in Portuguese) designers and artisans makes for a beautifully laid out and humbling hotel. If you're into design or just nice things this is the hotel you MUST stay at when you visit Lagos. Oh and almost everything in the room is available for purchase, from the nice tote bag for taking to the beach to the bed side tables.

It's quiet and it's got a lovely garden by the town ramparts. It was enjoyable to have a coffee there on the terrace at night and get away from the noise of the bars in downtown Lagos.

A truly phenomenal experience. The design is fresh, contemporary, neuvo-minimal, and the ideal resting place for days at the beach. In the room with the large glass doors open, a breeze wafting through the trellised facade and rocking the hammock slightly, I felt in total peace. Days later, I found myself thinking about the shampoo and the bespoke little ceramic reservoirs in which they were found. Though at times the combination of the perfectly non-chlorinated pool, boutique wine shop, delicious farm-to-table fare, and overly-comfortable rooms evoked a suspiciously marketable aesthetic, it is an experience that allows you to not simply oogle at the Instagrammable moments, but live them. Probably the best hotel I have stayed in, period. I suggest taking advantage of Casa Mae at current prices before the Algarve tourism scene explodes and rates triple.

Personally felt this place over priced and over rated they totally forgot about the locals who would have supported them all year round :(

Nice, new age hotel, no television. My wife left her telephone at the hotel and despite them telling us they couldnt find it we watched it on find my phone go from the hotel to a residential area and all over Lagos They were upset when questioned about this

Casa Mãe easily achieves that ever-elusive balance of elevated and laid-back. A true boutique hotel with top-notch fine dining opportunities (we weren't even tempted to go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner anywhere else), it certainly lives up to its tagline of 'more than a hotel'. It's a lifestyle complex that's equally classy and cool.

So lecker, so gastfreundlich! Unbedingt ausprobieren!
