Good was good, but the service was not. It took an hour to get drinks and 2h for food. Food wasn’t hot anymore. For the price I would have expected more.

Estivemos em Aljezur uns dias e fomos jantar uma das noites e adoramos!!! O serviço foi excelente, o pessoal muito simpático e recomendou muito bons pratos! Tanto o peixe como a carne deliciosos, com um sabor muito apurado e feitos com muita creatividade e bom gosto, as sobremesas super originais e absolutamente irresistiveis! Obrigada pelo vosso atendimento 5 estrelas!!

We went twice to this restaurant during our stay in Aljezur, and we would like to go again. Everything on the menu is insanely delicious. The food is prepared with so much love and the staff is so friendly. It’s probably the best restaurants we’ve been to in the region, and we can recommend it without a doubt. You MUST stop by for some food. Try the Salmorejo, it will blow your mind. Same goes for the secreto and the house special, as well as the mouse au chocolate (wait till you taste the caramel at the bottom ). The vinho verde is amazing.

I wish it was possible to add a 6th star ...
Starter and main course were incredibly tasty, the suckling pig was excellent.
Must also be mentioned : a pleasant place, the right quantity in the dishes, good presentations and a correct price at the end.
During vacations I often prefer to try different restaurants, but we are thinking about coming back before leaving !
Edit one day later : we went back and did not regret it, especially about the swordfish and the bombom de batata doce !

We have been waiting for 8 days of walking the Rota Vicentina and 2 days in Lisbon to find food of this quality and presentation! The chef is to be congratulated on his/her creativity and standard of food. Wow!

Leckere Speisen, toll, dass man auch an die Vegetarier denkt. Alles ist frisch und sehr schmackhaft gewürzt. Der Balsamico-Salat zum Beispiel ist exzellent. Ich finde, daran erkennt man ein gutes Restaurant. Wenn der Salat schon nicht gelingt, taugt der Rest meist auch nichts.
Die angebotenen Weine der Algarve sind unbedingt trinkenswert.
Ein Lob auch für die Mitarbeiter - sehr herzlich, aufmerksam und schnell.

The food is sometimes very very very good or very disappointing. When you pay 7 euros for a starter and you get 7 tiny balls of cheese ravioli that don't taste of much (you could probably fit all 7 in your mouth at once!)...it makes you a bit mad. But then the steak comes and it's amazing. So I guess it's very hit and miss, and because it's quite expensive, when you have a miss it's not so good. Very creative and different food and the staff and ambience are great.

Truly amazing. Based on the dishes we had, we both think this should be a michelin rated restaurant.... truly truly... herb infused ice cream tuna tartare was the best fish I've had in portugal, with the exception of a banana glazed fish I had in Lagos, but on par with it. The suckling pig filet special was ot of this world... a must try... awesome ambiance as well.

De passagem por Aljezur, íamos a um outro restaurante que se encontrava fechado e acabámos por ir parar ao Várzea, pelos comentários positivos que lemos. Revelou-se sem dúvida uma óptima opção, gostámos muito do atendimento em que, a nosso pedido, nos foi detalhada a ementa e dadas sugestões. Optámos pelo leitão e pelo espadarte, ambos muito saborosos, bem confeccionados e com uma apresentação cuidada. Como sobremesa provámos o bombom de batata doce, que acompanhou na perfeição o nosso café. O espaço é agradável, com decoração simples mas cuidada e todos os funcionários se mostraram cordiais.
Por fim, achei a relação qualidade/preço bastante adequada, cerca de 20€/pessoa, sem bebidas alcoólicas nem entradas.
Um restaurante a voltar sem dúvida quando passar por Aljezur novamente.

We ate here last night, very nice looking restaurant, the food was absolutely delicious, and reasonably priced, around 12-14 euro for a main course, a glass of good red wine is about 2.60 euro, very swift service, we literally waited for 10 minutes for our main course, which was locally sourced and one of the best meals I've had abroad. We wanted to leave a tip, but only had debit card and they couldn't take a tip with a debit card, so make sure you bring some spare euros as the service and quality of food definitely deserves a tip!!

Very very good! We had a great swordfish and a delicious interpretation of codfish with two glasses of good red wine. Presentation and taste were great and the portions were really big. Excellent price-performance. Additionally the vegetables are mostly home-grown in their garden or locally bought.
The service personal was very friendly, fast and attentive and rounded off this great evening.
Definitely highly recommended!!!

Gostei do restaurante apesar de ter ficado ao pé de um grupo de turistas estrangeiros muito barulhentos. A comida estava muito boa. Os filetes de robalo estavam no ponto com um molho de laranja e manjericão muito agradável. O Leitão braseado estava muito tenro e saboroso mas não esperem nada parecido com o da Bairrada! O tiramisu estava divinal. Recomendo.

Great food and space. We had a very pleasant lunch outside. Not only is the food good but it also looks pretty and they try not to have the same dishes you can find in the typical Portuguese restaurants, or at least they bring something different and interesting to the plate.

Just have to say a great place to eat. Sat outside with a view of the castle in the distance and just enjoyed a lovely meal. This is a sister restaurant of Gulli which is also good but on balance we preferred Varea. They do bring bread and bits which you can refuse but make a very tasty and cheap starter which is what we did. They allowed us to mix and match on the menu particulalry with potata dishes so my wife had sweet potato with her fish and I had their home cooked 'chips' with my pork which were lovely. Both had timamisu which was special. House wine very good value as was the coffee. All in all a must for us next time we visit the area.

Serviço cordial e organizado. Aqui não se sente a azáfama e a correria das zonas mais movimentadas do Algarve. Decoração despretensiosa e agradável com boa esplanada para as noites quentes. A comida... Vale muito a pena e fica na memória. As doses não são generosas mas consolam a gula. Só é difícil escolher... Não sendo barato, os preços são justos. Altamente recomendável e a voltar certamente. Nas alturas mais movimentadas e recomendável fazer marcação

Gostei bastante da apresentação, o que torna este restaurante atractivo é sem duvida a sua imagem tanto a nivel do próprio espaço como a nível da imagem da comida. Quanto ao ambiente, é um restaurante com bastantes turistas, boa esplanada ao ar livre com bastantes lugares. A parte negativa é sem dúvida o preço para a qualidade da comida, que apesar de ter boa apresentação nao tem um sabor muito bom. 4 pessoas, 1 couvert, 1 entrada pequenissima recomendada pelo chef, 4 pratos principais e 4 refrigerantes e pagamos cerca de 25 euros cada.

This place is amazing. This place gets everything right. The menus is a modernization of português food done really well! Normally when this is attempted it can be quite tacky but not in the case. The presentation was excellent the food was flavourful without being too salty or overpowering and the service was friendly. Highly recommend. Perfect for a date or for couples.

What an excellent restaurant! Fully against my own principles and custom during holidays I even went back a second time with my girlfriend. The first time we went for lunch around 14.30, rather late, but not a problem for the personnel who were all very friendly, and in a genuine way! The second time we were rather early for dinner (around 19.30), which turned out a wise choice because later that evening it became very crowded. Both in the afternoon and evening the food was well presented, with an original combination of different tastes and styles. The menu offers an interesting combo of local and innovative food. The atmosphere is laid-back, though all staff is working hard whilst still being attentive. If you are ever in the surrounding area, please do visit this restaurant!

Somos.uma familia de 4 pessoas e nãoo gostei nada da receção e atendimento. Esplanada as 20h quase vazia só com reservas. Fomos convidados para o interior, vazio tb, e quando nos sentamos fomos informados que teríamos que jantar até às 21.30h. Acho que é uma péssima imagem de boas vindas para QQ turista que se preze.

Excellente table. Le repas était délicieux frais joliment présenté saveurs originales avec quelques propositions végétariennes succulentes. Le cadre est très agréable. Une salle climatisée et une superbe terrasse ombragée par des arbres avec vue sur le château Maure sublime éclairé de nuit. Le potager est charmant on voit les légumes pousser dont nous nous délectons. Accueil et service impeccables. Les prix sont plus chers qu’un restaurant traditionnel Portugais mais bien évidemment la qualité reflète le prix qui reste très correct pour une bourse Française. (50€ deux plats deux desserts deux jus et de l’eau).

Приятный ресторан с фьюжн кухней с мотивами Португалии. Необычная подача блюд внимательными официантами. Карпачо из тунца с лимонным щербетом супер! Все блюда вкусны и уютно. Рекомендую всем, кто бывает в этом районе. Парковаться можно напротив на парковке супермаркета. Хлебцы они подают с орехами.

Excellent. A modern room, fresh and inviting. Great service. Excellent menu. Several inventive takes on your typical Portuguese meals. From the 'covers' to the desert these folks did everything right. We had the squash soup, pork stew and suckling pig. Each was excellent. A very welcome change to grilled dish or chicken and fries. Highly recommended.

Fantástico. Comida de fusão, mas não sei dizer com o quê! Uma mistura de sabores que harmonizam na perfeição. Sobremesas sublimes. Mousse de chocolate com caramelo salgado. Salada de fruta com bocadinhos de french toast. O couvert so ja é maravilhoso. Comemos bochechas de porco, robalo, tartar de atum c sorvete de limao e sopa de abóbora maravilhosa. Não é cozinha tradicional portuguesa, mas supera expetativas para quem não vai atrás disso.

Muy recomendable. La comida está buenísima, con una presentación muy cuidada. Se sale un poco de lo habitual. El personal es encantador y te hacen sentir como en casa. La única pega es que hay mucho ruido en el comedor interior si está lleno. Cierra tarde, por lo que puedes cenar sin problema a las diez.

Um espaço muito agradável. Serviço muito bom, simpatico e profissional. A ementa é boa fazendo bom uso de ingredientes não nobres mas de boa qualidade. Alguns dos pratos resultam em confusão de sabores e texturas (parecendo um pouco pretensiosos). A apresentação dos pratos é muito boa e o bombom de batata doce a sobremesa favorita. Cerca de 20€/pax

The setting is lovely - looking out on farmland and Aljezur - and the food is absolutely amazing. The tuna ceviche was exceptional and the speciality of pork with fries and salad was equally as delicious. Very well priced and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

This place is amazing and something quite different in Aljezur and Portugal.
The menu is a little restricted but what they serve is excellent, the atmosphere is good, the service is excellent and pleasant and unusual for Portugal.
The suckling pig was excellent and you must try the sweet potato bon bons they are muito bom.

Excited to try this place as we had heard the seafood was really good in the region. Staff made you feel very welcome and were just lovely. Starters were very poor, the octopus carpaccio was terrible, lots of different flavours that didn't go well together. Tuna tartare starter was just okay, again too many flavours thrown in together, so much so that you couldn't taste the tuna itself. The main course, however, was a delight, pork fillet cooked to perfection with great chips. Setting is very nice. Could be quite good but starters and sharing plates need improvement.

Sehr gut und lecker. Ein Geheimtipp für alle ,die in Aljezur unterwegs sind. Preislich auch nicht zu hoch angesiedelt. Geschmacklich dafür um so mehr. Sehr netter und aufmerksamer Service. Der Besuch ist sehr lohnenswert und dazu auch sehr kinderfreundlich wie fast jedes Restaurant in der Gegend...Wir haben das Restaurant nur per Zufall entdeckt und waren im Nachhinein vollends begeistert...Es lohnt sich dort einzukehren.

Durch das Restaurant Gulli, welches vom gleichen Besitzer geführt wird sind wir auf das Vareza aufmerksam geworden. Da wir im Gulli von der exzellenten Qualität des Essens angetan waren wollten wir auch das Vareza probieren.
Leider kann das Vareza jedoch bei weitem nicht mit dem hohen kulinarischem Niveau des Gullis mithalten. Speziell die Vorspeise, ein fritierter Octopus hat uns sehr enttäuscht. Zum einen war außer der Panade und den aufgebrachten Soßen nichts zu schmecken, zum anderen war der Preis von 10 Euro auch rein in Bezug auf die Menge unverhältnismäßig hoch. Die Hauptspeisen waren in Ordnung, jedoch kein Highlight und ein gutes Stück über den sonst gängigen lokalen Preisen eingestuft.
Positiv möchte ich jedoch die Freundlichkeit des Personals hervorheben. Es war sehr zuvorkommend und hat die Kritik an der Vorspeise dankend angenommen.
Ansonsten kann ich in dieser Preisklasse nur jedem Gast die Empfehlung aussprechen doch das Gullis zu besuchen und die wundervolle Karte zu genießen.

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant, geschmack- und liebevoll eingerichtet. Man bekommt ein Wohlfühlgefühl. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir waren im November 2017 das erste Mal, jetzt im April wieder hier. Das Essen wird ideenreich zubereitet, schließlich isst das Auge mit. Aber auch der Gaumen wird nicht enttäuscht. Im Sommer sind wir wieder in Aljezur und sicher auch wieder im Váreza.

Á comida era ótima. Gostei das entradas, do espadarte e da salada de fruta com rabanadas. Os sabores eram todos ótimos, com originalidade e com bons ingredientes.

Beim eintreten fällt als erstes die klare, moderne Einrichtung auf. Alles stimmig ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen. Das Essen ist dann das fast das genaue Gegenteil, zwar auch modern angerichtet, aber eine fast schon barocke Geschmacksexplosion! Frische, perfekte Zutaten. Wundervoll kombiniert und den Gaumen verwöhnent. Einfach begnadet was der Gast hier erleben kann. Hingehen und probieren! Und fast hätte ich es vergessen, auch der Service verdient höchstes Lob!

Ein Restaurant der Extra-Klasse. Sehr stilvoll eingerichtet und dekoriert. Die Farben und das Licht in warmen Tönen, das Licht leicht gedämpft.
Die Küche leistet sehr gute Arbeit. Die Speisen werden liebevoll drapiert und serviert. Da kann auch das Auge super mitessen.

Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Die Bedienung ist sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Das Essen war geschmacklich auch sehr gut bis auf eine Vorspeise, die uns persönlich nicht geschmeckt hat und wir somit haben stehen lassen. Auf Nachfrage sagten wir der Bedienung, dass es einfach nicht unserem persönlichem Geschmack entsprochen hat. Zu unserer Verwunderung wurde diese Vorspeise damit von der Rechnung gestrichen. Wir waren nachfolgend an mehreren Abenden dort und können es uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

Amazing food. A lot of tasty meat and seafood. Only one main dish was vegetarian but it was delicious too. Friendly staff and a beautiful location with a good view on the castle of Aljezur. Kids are welcome and there are extra meals on the menu for them.

Excellente Küche und unglaublich ausgefallene Gerichte, dabei äußerst schmackhaft. Kein 08-15 Essen. Eine gute Getränke Auswahl rundet das Angebot ab. Auch die hausgemachten Desserts sind grandios. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und schnell. Der Koch versteht seinen Beruf. Das Ambiente ist modern aber sehr gemütlich. Alles ist sehr, sehr sauber. Wir werden auf jedenfall wiederkommen.

Schickes mediteran-portugisisches Restaurant, mit Fisch- und Fleischspezialitäten. Name des Restaurant ist jetzt: Varzea Horta & Bistrot - und wird von den gleichen Leuten betrieben wie das Gulli (etwas ausserhalb von Aljezur, an der Strasse nach Lagos).

Parfait emplacement à l'abri des touristes! La terrasse offre une vue imprenable sur la vieille ville. Les plats -delicieux- sont à base de produits du jardin. Il y a même de très bonnes options végétariennes !
