These are the nicest staff in a restaurant we have ever encountered. On arriving on our first night in Luz, having been delayed arriving and then an hour's drive from Faro. They kindly kept the kitchen open so we could eat. Two members of our party arrived slightly later than the others. They made no fuss and were generous and welcoming. They even let us buy some wine and table water to take to our villa on the promise we would return their bottles, which we did without hesitation. The food was filling and well priced, and we really appreciated their welcome. Couldn't recommend higher.

Outstanding, you have all seen Ramseys kitchen nightmares on how not to run a restaurant , this is the opposite, a great example of how to do it right. Good value quality Portuguese food with attentive and friendly staff. Always a good sign when you can see from the dining area into the kitchen. When half the restaurant patrons are speaking Portuguese you know you have picked the right place . Another review picked up on the lighting which is a bit harsh, would agree somewhat on this but a small criticism.

YupIt has been very well refurbished since our last visit, and the welcome was as good as it could be. But the success of the improvements had plainly led to difficulty in handling the number of customers at peak times. We were asked to delay our time of arrival but even so we had an unacceptable delay in getting our meal.

Had the grilled swordfish it really was delicious very fresh with tasty veg and potatoes resonablly good price 12.50 euro. Had an amazing desert too, seriously considering going back before we head home? Haven't had a dissapointing meal in the area all holiday Probally my favourate so far? If you like Chinese or Sushi. I highly recommend the Dragon 15.90 all you can eat but it's not buffet it's order what you want then it's cooked fresh

Nice little authentic Portuguese restaurant with very friendly staff. The food is good value, some nice soups, fresh fish and varied, reasonably priced wine list. The lighting is a bit harsh and white but I’m not going to let that bring down the star rating.

Hade hört talas om detta ställe i Luz, där vi bor vintertid numera. Har aldrig varit där dom tre år vi varit här till och från. Nu sista kvällen innan återfärd till Sverige så gick vi dit. Kronan på verket trodde vi när vi hittat två andra bra restauranger i år, Aquarios och Chiccas. Men vi blev mycket besvikna faktiskt!! Ingenting extra, vi tog in musslor som iofs var goda men inget bröd till..Sen tog jag lammkotletter som iofs var goda, maken grillspett med kött. Men dåligt kryddat allting. Men vi gav dom en sista chans och tog in chokladpudding till efterrätt. Då var det som en stabbig pulverrätt som jag hade gjort bättre själv. Nä aldrig dit nåt mer...finns bättre ställen i Luz.

I am a frequent visitor. Starting with the welcome, continuing through the meal and service, everything is done with excellence. I had the bream fillets with a prawn sauce which was delicate and tasty. Staff is attentive, helpful and pleasant. The ambiance is quietly intimate and friendly. I would recommend Onda Luz every time!!!

Llegamos al Ondaluz y al ver mesas vacías sin recoger preguntamos al camarero si se podría cenar. Al respondernos que sí, nos colocamos en un rincón esperando a que limpiasen alguna de las mesas. Apoyados en una cámara frigorífica que nos transportaba a los años 80 (adjunto foto) limpiaban la mesa (10min de reloj) pero al menos disfrutábamos de las vistas. Una clásica familia de ingleses jugaba su rutinaria partida de cartas UNO entre los platos mientras esperaban a que llegasen los segundos y la hija adolescente rechupeteaba todos los paquetitos de mantequilla exprimiéndoles todo el jugo. Por fin nos sentamos (tuvimos suerte, a los siguientes les dijeron que ya era tarde, (21h). Nos ponemos a mirar la carta. El plato que yo elegí no aparecía en la parte portuguesa y sí en la inglesa (sería una errata). Mientras esperábamos, veíamos como servían unas brochetas a los ingleses (las llevaban en una camarera cual mesa de material quirúrgico con un vaivén muy gracioso que supuso que nos moviéramos nosotros para dejarles paso). Esto promete. Llevábamos 40min esperando nuestra comida (todo el mundo estaba acabando de cenar) y no lo entendíamos ya que había 4 gatos esperando por sus platos. Más clientes aparecían por la puerta (pobrecillos) pero les dicen que no pueden servirles (literalmente "cocina ha dicho que hoy no hace más") y estos le recriminan al camarero que en internet pone que cierran a las 23h (cierto es) y se marchan enfadados. Ya llevábamos 50min esperando. Después de llamar la atención del camarero 2 veces, nos sirven. El pollo venía cortado como para un niño de 3 años (no se para qué colocaron la mesa con estricto orden protocolario si el cuchillo de sierra no se iba a usar). El cacito utilizado para hacer la forma del arroz blanco debió ser de chupito (27 granos contados). La ensalada que acompañaba a mis gambas se componía de: 1 rodaja de tomate, 4 hojas de lechuga, un poco de zanahoria rallada y no se qué otra cosa más). Al menos las patatas fritas no eran congeladas (ole ahí). Mientras cenábamos podíamos disfrutar del show que había en cocina (tienen un cristal transparente de esos que hay en restaurantes top, para que se pueda ver desde fuera como trabajan) y las cocineras estaban a punto de infartar. Además, hubo bronca porque se negaban a cocinar nada más (menos mal que no les entendíamos pero los aspavientos hablaban por sí solos). Si sois españoles, no merece mucho la pena. Se come igual en millón de restaurantes de carretera de la península. Me quedé con ganas de probar la tarta de higos de la cámara refrigeradora pero no quería esperar otros 10min y estábamos hartos!

O espaço é a acolhedor, muito agradável. Os funcionários são simpáticos, educados e eficientes. A cozinha à vista, impecável. WC impecável. A comida é excelente! As sobremesas são fracas, mas de resto não há nada de nada a apontar! Parabéns equipa!

Some great food, especially the clams! The spaghetti bolognaise was rather dissapointing however, but that was made up for by a spectacular banana split. The waiters were friendly and helpful. Will be visiting again next time we come back to the Luz.

Service friendly and polite, food ok, price way too high considering portugal in general. Minimal vegan/vegetarian options. I mean it was fine, everyone else enjoyed it but we were disappointed when we looked at the options and tje prices. Portugal's minimum wage is roughly half of what it is in Britain, it felt a bit like we were being cheated by the restaurant to pay British prices in Portugal's economy. I mean maybe the staff were being paid higher than the average? The entire kitchen staff were female - are female chefs lower paid than male chefs in Portugal? I don't know, anyway we ordered potato skins but they were deep fried potato peelings. They were better tjan the fries which had been in hot holding and were dry. Our ratatouille was very plain chunks of vegetables in oil. The desserts were very basic - vienetta, mousse, etc.

Visited in 2015, Amazing place with amazing open kitchen, you can see when they are preparing your food. Extremely clean and very warm environment. The food is beyond delicious you can easily try anything that I am sure it will be fabulous. We are fanatics of finding local cuisine with local ingredients and this place is the perfect place for both. We order Bifa Portuguesa, sea food and pasta with sea food. It was amazing. We were lucky to find it the second day just by luck, and since then we always dine there. No reason to try other places. My favorite place to dine by far. Excellent service, amazing food and good price. Just perfect! Thanks to Patricio for making our dinners so pleasant and enjoyable

Prima restaurant. Bediening zeer matig. Vaste klanten krijgen véél meer tijd en aandacht. Na het toetje kwam de bediening wel zes keer langs onze tafel lopen met lege handen zonder even af te ruimen. Het standaard drankje bij/na de rekening werd ook selectief geserveerd: de ene tafel wel, de andere niet... vreemd en ongastvrij!

This restaurant is a gem in terms of service and quality food in the Algarve region. Although small (make a reservation in advance), the sea food is very well prepared. We had a lovely Cataplana over here as one of their specialties. The staff is very service focused and did service exactly on our allergy restrictions. I recommend to go here if you are around the Luz area.

Perfect food with good value and a nice variety. But most special about this restaurant is the service: The staff is absolutely friendly and attentive - I’ve been here twice and I felt very comfortable both times. They do a very very good job and I would give 6 stars if possible. This is my favorite place to eat at home algarve!!! 100% recommendation, you shouldn’t miss it. Make sure to call for reservation, it’s a well-frequented place ;)

Gute Küche und freundlicher Service. Breites Angebot an Fisch- und Fleischgerichten - wobei die Portionen verhältnismäßig klein sind. Leider ist der Gastraum sehr eng mit Tischen bestückt, so dass es bei voller Belegung laut ist und man beim Essen keine Privatsphäre hat.

Most friendly service I've ever had and amazing food! Me and my boyfriend were only in Portugal for 5 days and went here twice because we couldn't resist going back to have the best steak we've ever tried . They also stayed open when we were the last people in there having a drink quite late without complaint. Can't reccomend enough!

Jantar especial Recomendaram-nos no hotel onde ficamos hospedados vários restaurantes mas depois de alguma pesquisa decidimos escolher este pois além de bons comentários sobre o serviço e qualidade também tinha um horário que nos era favorável. E não nos enganamos, uma óptima escolha. O Restaurante estava cheio, pena não haver Portugueses, éramos os únicos portugueses na sala, mas não foi por isso que o serviço não foi bom, aliás adorei ver a satisfação e prestabilidade dos funcionários quando viram que éramos portugueses. Fomos super bem atendidos, com muita tranquilidade, super bem servidos, os gins super bem feitos, a comida deliciosa, um ambiente muito agradável e tudo preparado na hora. Reparei também que já passavam das 22h e chegou uma família para jantar e a equipa recebeu-os com muito agrado e um sorriso no rosto como se tivessem sido os primeiros a chegar para jantar, onde em muitos lados de certeza que já não jantariam. Nota-se o profissionalismo e a dedicação.

What a terrible service! They botched the reservation time (wrote down 7 vs. 8 pm) and when we arrived at 7.40 they had given away our table to someone else who had just walked in. We had reserved two days in advance as they were fully booked, and we thought we were even being early... such a joke. No apology or anything of course - thanks but no thanks.

Gehobeneres Fischrestaurant mit guter Karte. Im Aussenbereich drei Tische, die fuer Spontanbesucher zur Verfügung stehen. Man kann hier gut sitzen, allerdings sind die direkt vorbeifahrenden Autus wegen der gepflasterten Strasse laut, darüber kann man aber auf jeden Fall hinwegsehen. Die Tische im Inneren sind meistens komplett reserviert, daher reservieren. Küche ist offen, man kann die Zubereitung schoen mitverfolgen. Gehobenes Ambiente, Stranddress mit kurzen Hosen ist weniger angebracht. Bedienung spricht hervorragend englisch und deutsch. Tip: die Fischsuppe als Starter probieren! Volle Empfehlung.

Great little Luz-based restaurant serving fantastic traditional Portuguese dishes with an amazing friendly service. Try out their great "Cataplana" (clams in a metal pot stewed with pepper and tomato), it was the best we discovered in our two weeks Portugal trip.

Es obvio que el restaurante ha cogido fama y se nota, están simple y llanamente sobrecargados, faltos de personal y con un servicio lento. Llegamos a las 22 h para cenar y a pesar de haber sitio dentro nos colocaron en una terraza con el resto de españoles, destino al olvido.... Resumiendo, buen sitio para picotear. Recomendables las brochetas, pero eso sí, id sin prisa y con muuuuuuucha paciencia.

When I came to Portugal, I was told by other tourists, that Portugal is not so famous for food there. So I didn't had high hopes. But let me tell U... Ondaluz is amazing. truly. The head waiter was exceptional, the food was perfect. Just an advice, book in advance. When we went there it was fully booked for the rest of the evening and next few days. They start serving 17:30. Highly recommend.

Auf der Durchreise, die wunderschönen Strände der Algarve besichtigen, bekommt man sehr schnell Hunger. In diesem Restaurant wird Service und sehr gutes, leckeres Essen, groß geschrieben. Man kann es nur empfehlen. Sehr sauber und angenehm.

Our favorite restaurant in the Lagos area by far! We have been coming here for years. Mama Ines, Patricio and Carlos run a friendly and efficient restaurant. The food is delicious, especially the monkfish Cataplana for 2 is a must! We also love the asparagus soup and the almond roll as a dessert. We only wished Onda Luz had a more extensive wine list.

If you visit Luz then you must try this traditional Portuguese restaurant. Simple grilled fish, mixed meat kebabs and piri piri chicken are all excellent. The showstopper is the monkfish cataplana for 2, served with a bit of theatre at your table by the very polite and efficient waiters. Try the slightly spicy version which is stunning. The wine is always good too.

this place does not look much from the outside, we past it during the day then dismissed it, however one evening we decided to try it and we delighted. both meals were faultless. i am thrilled to see it has masses of good reviews as well. try it, the place is lovely, the staff excellent. will go back.
