Enjoyed a fabulous dinner here in a quiet Thursday evening. Marco, our waiter, was very welcoming and took time to chat with us and explain several dishes. Husband started with the traditional Portuguese sausage, which he found surprisingly smokey, creamy texture and delicious. I started with tomato soup, which was light and flavorful (not cream-based). Main courses were olive-encrusted salmon and Portuguese steak. Both nice-sized portions, cooked perfectly, seasoned simply yet flavorful, and very tasty. Head chef, Pietro, also took time to chat with us and checked a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying our meal. We like this personal touch. Finished with Algarve delicacy for dessert -- perfect! Really enjoy the atmosphere of this local establishment (yet just a short walk from the tourist areas). Definitely will go back -- and you should go check it out!

The food in this restaurant was to die for. Everything melted in the mouth. The service was excellent. Out of the way, but was well worth the walk.

Serviço a ultrapassar o razoável, mas o prato do dia servido - favas à algarvia - poderia estar melhor, com favas macias e alguma carne, além das miseráveis rodelinhas de enchidos... Lá por terem pratos do dia com preços acessíveis, não têm que ser "fraquinhos".

Muito bom! Desde o atendimento, passando pelo espaço agradável terminando na apresentação dos pratos (muito bem empratados) e a comida muito boa a preços muito justos e acessíveis. Recomendo.

Dined with two other Canadian couples. Nice ambiance. Friendly, professional service, interesting and varied menu and wine list, all reasonably priced; a touch upscale. Food was excellent. Will return.

Lovely place. The staff are so helpful and respectful. We arrived just as they were opening and they had to move tables and chairs to accommodate our party of 6. There was no trouble or pulled faces about it . We had the cheesy garlic bread and it was yummy. Then we al had the grilled chicken and chips. It was all lovely and clean. Good wine menus too.

El servicio bien amable y correcto. Los platos no estaban a mi gusto. Ordene unas gambas al ajillo y en mi imaginación me relamia la boca buscando ese sabor tan especial. Cuando llegaron a la mesa la decepción fue total. Nada que ver con unos buenas gambas al ajillo. Después ordene bacalao a la parrilla. Es el peor bacalao que he probado. Ni sal creo que tenía.

Jantámos na passada segunda feira no Lusitano e a experiência foi francamente conseguida. Marcámos pelo telefone e não tivémos problema com mesa na hora combinada. O ambiente é descontraído, calmo, sem confusões do mês de Agosto. O atendimento foi cordial, muito atencioso e cuidadoso em fazer sentir bem. Iniciámos o jantar com entrada de cogumelos salteados, com muita qualidade. Os pratos principais Tamboril salteado com gambas e maigret de Pato ao vinho do porto sao extraordinários tanto na qualidade da comida como na apresentação. Pretendíamos um vinho tinto leve e o algarvio Marquês dos Vales 2015 resultou bem. Gostámos e certamente vamos voltar.

Super accueil et service impeccable

Garlic mushrooms to start superb followed by fillet steak cooked to perfection sweet to die for. Wife had pork for main course cheesecake for sweet again superbly cooked and presented. Service faultless. Not the cheapest place we have eaten this holiday but byfar the best.

One of my favourite places to go in Albufeira. The olive encrusted salmon was delicious - as was the Portuguese fillet steak, cooked to perfection. Great service too.

Tasty and delicious food. One thing that I personally am a fan of: There are not 50 different main courses, but the ones that are there are made with great enthusiasm. Definitely a place I would visit again.

Ambiente agradável com decoração temática de cavalos (Lusitano é o nome de um equino da região) e cardápio variado. O couvert de apenas 2€ é a dica enquanto aguarda o prato principal que serve bem para uma pessoa. Para quem aprecia paladares robustos a sugestão é a “bochecha de porco ibérico”. O preço para o serviço é barato.

Excellent local restaurant with an English menu. Reasonably cheap but has an upscale feel, with cigars to smoke to boot. Food is amazing with fresh fish, steak and veal etc. The staff are brilliant and are very helpful! Just a 2 minute walk off the New Strip.

Restaurant excellent, un vrai restaurant portugais, nous étions les seuls touristes mais le personnel parle anglais. Vraiment exceptionnel, les crevettes en entrées sont délicieuses et les tarifs très raisonnables.

Un local estupendo para una comida con amigos o una cena con tu pareja o familia. Los camareros te hacen sentir en tu casa. La comida es excepcional. Recomiendo el Tornedó que es un solomillo de ternera pero de primerísima calidad. La brocheta de cerdo también está muy rica y además tiene una presentación fenomenal. Sin duda que repetiremos antes de volver a España. Además de todo tiene aparcamiento abundante a la puerta. Enhorabuena a su dueño Pedro por tener un local tan precioso en Albufeira.

The food at Restaurante O Lusitano was so good that my wife and I have eaten there twice in one week! The food is elegantly prepared and very delicious. My wife had the "Bacalhau A Lusitano", which is a fried cod fish with peppers and thinly sliced, crisp fried potato. I had the "Tamboril Salteado com Gambas e Alcaparras" which is a Monkfish sauteed with Prawns and capers, served in a sauce with thinly sliced, crisp sweet potato. The service is excellent and the price is very reasonable. We will definitely be there a third time before we go back to the U.S.

We chose this place one night based on a 4.3 rating from 58 reviewers in Google Maps. I don't mean to negate other's experiences, but I'm writing a dissenting review, with the caveat that it's from a specific point of view: three of visited late one evening in the Algarve off season. There was only one other group that evening but they were quite large, perhaps as many as twenty, of all ages and clearly having a great time making a night of it; a good sign. In contrast, we were weary from travel, and wanted only a single main course before bed, rather than the customary multiple courses, and no wine, also highly unusual, even for us. This does not mean we don't enjoy the multi-course, lingering meals with good wine, but not that night, and it was pricey. Background completed I will get to the point: the service was extremely irritating as I will explain, and frankly, all three of us found the fare sub-standard by any measure. We ordered a single appetizer: a plate of garlic bread; it turned out to be a meager portion, the bread mediocre at best, and even the garlic butter didn't help much; we've dined at hundreds of restaurants around the world and none of us could recall such uninspired garlic bread. We hoped to have some along with our fish, but as time dragged on, no fish arrived. After 40 minutes of waiting I finally politely inquired about the delay at which point our waiter cheerfully informed us that he had not ordered our fish prepared because we had not finished our entrada - by which he meant a single small piece of the forlorn bread that had not yet been consumed. He informed us that this was the correct way to eat, to linger and enjoy the meal, and even chided us for looking at our phones. (Tired of waiting, we were planning the next day's events.) He went on to explain that this was "real" food, lovingly prepared from "real" ingredients unlike the fast food we Americans eat. He smugly doubted my politely worded assertions that there many fine restaurants in the US. I tried pointing out that that several of my family (my wife included) are great cooks; my sister even authored several cookbooks, one of my brothers writes a food column, our three children had all worked at restaurants, and a close friend of ours owns one. To no avail, nothing would convince him that Americans understood what good food was. To add injury to insult, when the main course arrived, we found both the sea bass dried out and over salted, served with flavorless whole potatoes and a few equally uninspired vegetables. We made a dignified and polite retreat, lied about our enjoyment level and tipped anyway. Why? Because we refused to play the role of the "ugly American", and because our waiter, despite his behavior, was well meaning and completely convinced that he was correct. Instead, I offer this review as a warning that if you are from the US, you should be thick skinned - or at least make your expectations clear up front. Perhaps several bottles of over-priced wine will help.

I visited this restaurant on the 15 July. The owner was very hospitable and the staff were very friendly and happy. They accommodated a large group of us which consisted of 30+ gentleman and every single one of us was really happy with the food, we had steak and mushrooms. Beer and wine was plenty full and i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who would be in this area. Top food, Top Service and a beautiful restaurant.

Eindelijk gevonden, de eerlijke Portugese keuken zoals deze hoort te zijn: pure en smaakvolle gerechten, zeer vriendelijke bediening en eerlijke prijzen. Wij aten varkensfilet en mijn vrouw stokvis, vergeet vooral het dessert niet: rijpe en zoete meloen, zoete aardappel taart en caramelmouse. Conclusie: zeer de moeite waard om een stukje voor om te lopen!

The staff and service was excellent. The crab crepes were fabulous. Sea bass was a special of the day. It was prepared wonderfully. For desert, try the sweet potato pudding. I could have eaten several more, it was that good! Thank you for a wonderful dinner.

Lovely staff and despite their denials their English is excellent. Food is cooked and presented beautifully with a variety of fish & meat dishes plus two vegetarian choices. Good selection of local wines and we had birthday dinner for two with a bottle of wine for €45 plus a candle and they sang Happy Birthday.
