First of all, service super outstanding, so very friendly servers, answering all our questions and offering the best dishes, the food delicious, first time trying Green Wine, will try to get it in the states, restaurant is kids friendly, if you are ever around this area come eat here, you wont regret it, very clean and great price.

After eating meal of the day, which was lasagna, I've had trouble with my stomach, throwing up all night and day after. And the rest of my vacation had to be on special diet because of this.

Looks pretty from the outside...but my food (tough pork) was awful. Even the chips (French fries) were soggy and cold.

Um dos melhores restaurantes em Cascais onde volto sempre com gosto. Ambiente calmo e selecto. Comida variada, feita ao momento, com qualidade inexcedível, serviço profissional e simpático. Preços? Eu e minha família fomos sumariamente convidados a sentar na saleta de espera pelo todo poderoso maitre porque queríamos apenas tomar uma sopa, que neste local custa entre 4,00€ e 4,50€. Mal olhou para nós, apontou a mesinha e virou-se para outras mesas, supostamente mais lucrativas. Não houve nenhuma cortesia. Evidentemente que saímos e fomos para outro local próximo, onde fomos melhor atendidos e acabamos por jantar e beber vinho. Nunca mais volto. Não posso recomendar.

Normal menu and taste except a real fresh seafood meal with their own fish tank inside of restaurant.

Very good.
This restaurant had it all, delicious food, very nice atmosphere and friendly waiters, good old men. I enjoyed the dinner here. The grilled cod was the best I have ever tasted. The white wine as well. I definitely recommend this old house restaurant.

Impresionantes Mariscadas en este restaurante. Fuimos por una cena de empresa un grupo importante de personas. El servicio ha sido magnífico, tanto en el trato como en las distintas recomendaciones que nos hacían. Magnífica también la carne. El menú muy rico y abundante. El vino exquisito! Volveré seguro!

Sneaky people, they offer and give you bread and cheese and act like its complimentary but actually it's 4.50 euros. I don't mind but it's just sneaky. Also there is a 1.50 euro per person cover charge it's on the menu but not anywhere else. The waiter wasn't the most cheerful guy but i would have left a 5 euro tip... So.... Yeah 20 euros for a salad and a soup.

Friendly service and very traditional Portuguese food in a restaurant that is full of character. The sauce on the steak wasn't as good as it could have been. The house reserva wine was fantastic, and they change it regularly, and you can trust their choice. Ask for a table downstairs, the atmosphere is nicer.

Fish was undercooked, one potato was rotten. Pricey for what is served. Other reviews are quite good so maybe I hit a bad day. That said, many other choices in Cascais. I would not return to Casa Velha.

Best value for the money in Cascais In the traditional Portuguese category. Obvious strong emphasis on Seafood. There version of Paella is outstanding and could be shared 2-3 ways. Many choices in the 16-24 Euro category. Service here has always been attentive.
Now there are better seafood options from the inferno to Guincho coast but jump to the 80-100 Euro for 2 person cost range. As a local resident they are special occasion places.
If you have only one night in Cascais this is a solid option. You can eat for less in the many touristic places behind Hotel Baia but all are meh. If you enjoy fish and soggy chips be my guest.

Quaint spot at the centre of the villa of Cascais. Traditional portuguese comfort dishes for a good price. Service in general is quick and waiters are friendly and quick to serve.really enjoy going to this spot.....strongly recomnend.

Para além do esmerado serviço, excelente recepção, o melhor peixe, o melhor marisco, tem uma excelente paella. Grande diversidade de vinhos e um espaço acolhedor onde apetece estar e ir ficando... e voltar!

Service sehr nett. Das war's dann aber leider auch. Die Qualität der Speisen ist gut, aber im Verhältnis zu den umliegenden Restaurants sehr teuer. Die margaritas waren nicht gut und mit 8€/Stück ebenfalls übermäßig teuer. Salat kommt ohne Dressing. Insgesamt leider definitiv eine Enttäuschung.

Restaurante con encanto y buena comida. Pero sobre todo el servicio. Nos atendío un camarero joven pero con mucha experiencia y atención. Estaba todo el rato atento a que no faltara de nada. Y nos ayudo con el carro de la niña guardándolo en un lugar seguro para que no estorbara. Trayendo una trona para sentarla. Nos buscó una mesa muy acogedora. Pedimos gambas al ajillo, solomillo y pescado. Y todo delicioso. Muy recomendable.

Este es uno de los restaurantes más antiguos de Cascais, y la comida que te ofrecen es de muy buena calidad, con muy buen producto y de cocina típica portuguesa con una factura impecable. Los precios son medio altos, pero no defraudará en ningún caso. Tanto los entrantes, como el pescado (fresquísimo) o las carnes son muy buenos, y los postres... caseros y deliciosos. Yo he ido a comer en múltiples ocasiones desde hace 30 años. Era regentado por un gallego que llegó a esta villa hace muchas décadas, y que hizo dinero cambiando Escudos Portugueses por Pesetas a los españoles que iban de vacaciones por una pequeña comisión. De ahí, luego vinieron este y otros varios restaurantes. Muy recomendable.

Great staff fantastic food. Fresh sea food all swimming in the tanks. I'm totally shell food allergic but they where very accommodating towards my needs. Only thing let it down for me was slow bill. Asked for it took 15 minutes. That's why it's not 5 stars.

Lovely creaky old traditional Portuguese restaurant that's beginning to show it's age; a little threadbare in places and the live crab in the tank look positively geriatric. But it was January when we were there, so maybe we caught them when not at their best - in truth there was very little else open. Food was okay but nothing exceptional; certainly wasn't good value. But service was good; the two staff we encountered were finely uniformed and very professional, if somewhat formal.

Péssimo. Depois de 1 hora há espera da sopa de cação lá veio a sopa.... Peixe cozido há pressa sem sal e aproveitaram um resto de caldo perdido pela cozinha. Ganha o prêmio da pior sopa de cação que já comi. A perdiz e o lombo nem sei que diga. Seco na sua essência e ensopado em gordura, o acompanhamento uma pequena travessa de batata frita. Sem dúvida o pior restaurante que conheço no Alentejo. Fico na dúvida se fui ao sítio das outras pessoas. Mas não quero arriscar tirar a dúvida.

The service was nice and funny, and the seafood and fish was amazing: fresh and prepared to perfection. Sometimes just a little olive oil is enough to exacerbate the flavors of truly fresh ingredients.
We had a wonderful time with my family. The wine with also excellent. Don't be afraid to ask the waiters for recommendations, as they may have items that the chef picked up at the market but are not on the menu.

Restaurante con una buena decoración y bonita terraza. Pescado fresco, de calidad pero presentación un poco antigua. Buen servicio. Eso sí, no pidáis el menú infantil!! unos "nuggets" con patatas fritas de pésima calidad. A mis hijas (que les encantan las patatas) no les gustaron, yo las probé y estaban fatal hechas, nada crujientes, totalmente pasadas y los nuggets peor que los del McDonalds. En desintonía total con el resto de la carta. A veces se piensan que porque son niños no tienen criterio y se les puede dar cualquier cosa. Mucho mejor pedir un plato de la carta a compartir con ellos.

Wonderful atmosphere, best charming service and a wonderland of seafood (marisco). The marisco pools look the fresher and healthier in the area, by far. We had two amazing fish and seafood soups, an overwhelming arroz con marisco for two, all accompanied by brut alvarinhno white. The final touch of house-made desserts was amazing.
A tip for seafood newbies: one of the best ways to enjoy exoskeleton seafood (bogavante-lobster, langosta, carabinero, etc.) is to cook it and then cook the rice in its soup to absorb the flavour. This is the basis of paella. Both Spain and Portugal have mastered this technique over centuries. A local won't order a paella, but a so-called "arroz caldoso" o "arroz con caldo", which preserves most of liquid in which the seafood was cooked. Give it a try. For 20€ per person, Casa Velha had one of the best arroces I have eaten.

We had lunch on Chrisrmas Day in this Portuguese restaurant in Cascais. It was recommeded by a Lisbon local and unfortunately didn't quite meet expectations. The seafood and traditional salt cod dishes were ok, but not exceptional. Pleasant decor with a seafood theme.

We ate there tonight, I can cook and I'm British ( actually Welsh) and we know about fish, this place is amazing. Highly recommend the sardines and the fish stew . Great house wine and port, deserts are delicious and services fabulous these guys know what they are talking about so follow their advice and enjoy the occasion... We did, and as our friend lives in the area so will be back for more. Cost £75.00 for three people with plenty of wine not cheap but compared with the U.K. A margin.

Moeilijk te omschrijven. Niet uitstekend maar toch zeer goed te noemen.

Ive just arrived to cascai, and well i saw this apparently amazing restaurant, first of all the waiters took a lot of time to service us, later the food was burned and the prix so big, worst place in cascai

Visited 29/08/2012. I have some problem with other reviews for this restaurant or we are not talking about the same place or some people do not have fish and seafood on a regular basis. Starter tasteless ham plate with 9 slices comes at 13€!!! Just regular cuisine at extremely high prices. Crab is 30€/kg even more expensive than in high end restaurants downtown Lisbon!!! - Highest bill during our entire stay in Lisbon. Highly NOT recommended, it's just a tourist trap. Note that this review is written by persons with strong european cuisine culture and might not be suited for people from other cuisine cultures especially northern america, asia, etc.
