Ambiance calme. Toilettes impeccables

Great wine. Service was ok. Room spectacular but weirdly bright and lacking in atmosphere. They had these old school in and out doors to the kitchen which gave it a Fawlty Towers feeling. Can’t see how this can make a ‘beat restaurant’ list unless we’re in the 1980s when this kind of place was seen as upmarket. Definitely needs a refresh. Food was ok but again old school.

We had a nice dinner, but definitely overpriced, probably due to its old glory. The staff was very friendly and professional

Nice place, nice service, nothing particularly special to deserve the prices. Good to tick off the list though. The history is reason enough to give a go. Maybe don't stay for too much of a meal.

An culinary institution from the 18tb century. Portugals oldest restaurant. Today a tenple for fine dinning. Restaurant with historical wooden and mirror pannels, white Table cloths. Attentive service and French cuisine at its best. Dress code at least business casual . Expensive menu, great restaurant for a special occasion. We celebrate our Anniversary. They surprised us with a nice desert plate after the dinner.

We don't understand the negative reviews neither the regretful fact that during most of our dinner we were the only diners inside, and that on a Friday night. Yes, there are many more "hot and trendy" places in Lisbon, some studded with Michelin star/stars, and some figuring prominently on the World's 50 Best Restaurants lists, and there are quite a few celebrity chefs operating in Lisbon now. But! That doesn't mean a thing. "All the rage" is very transitory in nature and Tavares remains one of the oldest restaurants in Europe, opened in 1784, and proudly bearing the name of the Tavares brothers since 1832! Moreover, less than 24 hours prior to that we had a Chef's Tasting Menu at one of the selected Lisbon restaurants, a recipient of Michelin star and its horrendous service doesn't even reach the same rank as the top polished service at Tavares, with its carefully preserved traditions and diligently kept rituals inherent to the fine dining as it was known for hundreds of years but very rarely seen nowadays. Add to the above an unreally luxurious and opulent interior, an embodiment of "Luxe, Calme et Volupté", and you are immediately transported to the world of elegance, class, and chic that - allas - don't exist anymore. The restaurant offers both an à la carte option and a Chef's Tasting Menu, the latter being much more budget-friendly. We, however, opted for the à la carte option, liking our own choices more. Even though Tavares highlights the classical French culinary tradition, several local specialties are on the menu as well and can be equally enjoyed. From bread service to the amazingly intricate wine cart ceremony, to a series of artistically prepared amuse-bouches, from the immensely delicate "Cauliflower Vichyssoise" (King Crab and Granny Smith apple) to the hearty "Roast Octopus" ('smashed potato', pepper and olive oil), from the absolutely classic "“Tavares” steak, (Pont-Neuf potato and creamed spinach) to the creative and light dessert "Mont Blanc" (marron glacé and meringue), all have combined together to produce a thoroughly unforgettable experience. Easily 10 stars out of 5!

In short, go somewhere else. Nicely decorated place for last century, but really out of touch with modern tastes. The toilets are very poor with the hallways rotting due to water damage and mould. It also seems to be lacking in popularity. Friday night and there were 6 people here, including me and my wife. Food quality is very poor and over priced. €31 for duck main which was served with little more than a few bits of roasted veg and strawberries. Duck was poor quality with lots of fat running through the meat. Thick, soft, not crispy, fat layer on top which is nowhere near rendered down enough. Ordered medium and came almost entirely raw. When the quality of the duck was mentioned the waiter said that duck is a tough meat. I was offered to be served another duck but the two people at the table had the same issue, so I refused. Strange way of serving too. Bread is served one piece at a time. Eventually the waiter passes by and offers another piece of bread. Just leave a basket of bread on the table, it's bread, not precious gold.

It is the oldest restaurant in Lisboa, but I thing the price is a bit too high for this kind of cuisine. But maybe you also pay for the interior and the fact, that it is the oldest restaurant in town. The interior is awesome. Gold gold gold

Overpriced unworthy food with amazing interior decoration. I wish they had spent money on improving their food than spending on the interior. DO NOT GO THERE

Well, quite a fancy place. Not sth we want to afford ourselves everyday, but 4 some special occasions perfect. The waiters know definitely their job and the chef also seems to know what he is doing :-). Thanks for a great evening and of course 4 the little extra gesture at the end (a little cake, cus of our wedding anniversary).

O cozido à portuguesa do Restaurante Tavares Rico!!!...

Everything was simply perfect ! Waiters are smily, polite, efficient and extremely professional. There is enough space between the tables to create an atmosphere of personal dining. The food is very well decorated, with balanced and rich flavors. The decoration of the restaurant is with an historical touch. The chief is extremely talented and very pleasant. The courses were personalized, surprisingly it's not an expensive restaurant taking into account the high quality food. Definitely worth attending again next time we are in Lisbon !

Ambiance is non existent, food was average and prices are way way too high for what you get. The environment is just sterile. I won't go back and don't recommend it.
