I went to the walking tour in Alfama and I really enjoyed it! The guide was Catarina and she was clear in everything she said. Overall the tour was very informative and very interesting! Plus, most of the way is downhill!! I highly recommend it!

A really pleasant walk through Alfama with our guide Castelo. I liked how he talked about this area and told us about things I would not have noticed or understood on my own. I will recommend this company to my friends!

We happened into this tour when sitting on a bench in the meeting spot; some people thought my wife was the tour guide due to the hot pink shirt she was wearing. Found out it was free and we were trying to figure where to go first so we joined. Mafalda was our guide, she did a great job after she got comfortable with us. She showed us a couple of hidden treasures and gave us some pro tips! Our only suggestion was she turned away to talk several times early on and we couldn’t hear her, it was fixed after 2nd stop. Great tour and you pay what you want at the end.

Great tour in Belem. Our guide, Brian, was super! Although it was his first tour, he had an answer to every question we fired at him. Nice to learn about Portugal's lesser known history and buildings. Good tips, personal touches, all in all very nice tour!

Really worthy, we learned some very interesting details about the Portuguese history as well as the everyday life, that made us feel that closer to the city and the locals. Our guide to Alfama was Fahim and was excellent! Eager to share his knowledge, very kind and helpful. It is strange that there are so many details around you as you walk past the narrow streets, that would go totally unnoticed without the guide to explain to you what you see. You tip at the end as much as you want. Totally recommended.

I have done many of the free walking tours around Europe over the years. It helps to get a general overview of the city I am visiting or living in. I found a real winner with Joao and the Discover Walks in Lisbon. Joao was local, knowledgable, flexible and not just rehashing a script, fun, and a great communicator. Received great information in only 90 mins. This is one tour I wish was even longer. Thank you Joao! We look forward to seeing you around town!

Had a great 2-hour stroll through Alfama with Bernardo. Would highly recommend this experience which gives an interesting insight into local traditions, history with a great touch of humour!!

Did the Belem tour with Joao. Loved it. Lots of interesting and fun facts. Good pace. Afterwards, spent the afternoon in Cascais as per our guide’s recommendation; best part of our short stay in Lisbon. It’s like the Portuguese Riviera. Highly recommend Cascais and the Belem walk!

Amazing tour of the Alfama neighborhood! Our guide, Joao, was a passionate local who helped us discover his city. He gave us a lot of tips about places that he likes and made us feel like we were really discovering the true face of Lisbon! I would really recommend this tour!

Waited with a group of about 8 people for 20 minutes - The tour guide didn't turn up. 2 from the group had registered beforehand, and received (automated) confirmation that the walking tour was on. A family even took a cab to the meeting place because they didn't want to be late. Disappointing.

Recommended. It's not like we learned a lot, as we researched history and landmarks and so ourselves before the trip, but a very nice guide did keep us entertained during a chill walk. And one of the tips on a simple, Portuguese working force restaurant in Bairro Alto was priceless.

Took the English morning walking tour of Lisbon neighbourhoods with Nuno yesterday. We must have had almost 50 people in our group. Way too big! Nuno did a good job trying to speak so everyone could hear but there wasn't room for him to stop and explain much about what we were seeing as we walked along. We did stop at some major sites where he gave some history and background info about the different neighbourhoods but he was quite limited because of the group's size. Chill out needs to get more English tour leaders as this tour rated as one of the poorer walking tours I've been on.

Rafael hat es mit seinem Humor, seinem fundierten Wissen und seiner Liebe zu dieser Stadt und seinen Bewohnern geschafft, mir Lissabon und die Menschen, die dort leben, näher zu bringen! 3,5 kurzweilige Stunden, abseits der üblichen Touristen-Attraktionen. Am Treffpunkt versammelten sich ca. 30-40 Personen. Ich hatte kurz die Befürchtung, dass das einfach zu viele Menschen für solch eine Tour sein könnten. Während der Vorstellungsrunde stellte sich heraus, dass die Teilnehmer wirklich aus allen Teilen dieser Welt stammten! Rafael hat sich zu jedem kleine Notizen gemacht und konnte so fast jeden in kurzen persönlichen Gesprächen während der Tour zuordnen und persönlich ansprechen. Es war, trotz der Vielzahl an Menschen, eine sehr familiäre Gruppe. Nach kurzen oder längeren Etappen gab es kleine Pausen, in denen Rafael in fließendem, sehr gut verständlichem englisch und mit sehr viel Humor Infos und Anekdoten erzählt und unsere Fragen beantwortet hat. 3 1/2 sehr kurzweilige Stunden mit vielen spannenden Infos und Tipps! Das werde ich bei meiner nächsten Städtetour auf jeden Fall wieder machen!

Best way to get a feel for Lisbon! Don't look like a ridiculous tourist on an expensive segway tour. They look so dumb. Explore the city with a local who wants you to know the real Lisbon. The Lisbon that existed before tourism. This is a must for Lisbon, and if you like your tour, you should tip something. I gave my guide a 5Euro bottle of wine and we were both happy with this! Expect it to last 3 hours and to be interested the whole time! I was recovering from a broken knee during mine so you should be fine. Free Lisbon Walking Tours is a great idea. I had a great feeling of community from these people- rather than the tourist trap feeling I get when people charge money. Be a traveler, not a tourist, and do a free tour before exploring the city on your own. Definitely go to Belem to get a pastry from the little blue shop...it is the old authentic recipe for the traditional Portuguese pastry

The walking tour in Lisbon through Alfama with Discover Walks was a great way of getting to know the city through the eyes of a local, i got to meet people and places that otherwise i wouldn't have the opportunity.

This walking tour in Lisbon, specifically in Alfama, helped me to re-discover my own city! It's amazing how you can also be surprised by your own city. João is an excellent communicator who really helped me to feel the environment of this place.
