Local com ar de algum abandono.

Cheap residence inside the campus, the rooms are a little small but you won't find anything with a better price or location.

If you're a master in geotech: congratulations. Let me help you with your settling down in this new life in Lisbon (it is amazing).
LOCATION
Alfredo de Sousa residence is a building inside the NOVA Campolide Campus. It is a 15 minutes walk to NOVA IMS, also to the Sao Sebastiao metro station and has multiple shopping centers near (Amoreira's and Corte Inglés). It is also near to the Eduardo VII park wich has a great view in clear days of the Tagus River and Praca do comercio.
ROOM
The residence has 4 floors, each flor has a left and right aisle, each aisle has around 10 dormitories and each dormitory has 3 students. You enter in a shared bedroom, it has a toilet, a shower an 2 bedrooms, one single and one double. In the pictures you see the single room (it is preferable) but the double room is comfortable too.
KITCHEN
Each aile has its own kitchen with gas, fridge, oven, toaster and chairs. Usually the gadgets in the kitchen are pretty nasty because the oven and the toaster are rusty and the fridge is full of broken eggs BUT you can rent a fridge for 7.5 euros a month in your room. They clean everyday the floors and tables so the space is clean, cook, eat and use your own fridge and everything is gonna be ok.
LAUNDRY
The laundry machine works with coins (4 coins for 5 euros), it needs one coin for each laundry (very nice), you only need to buy soap and conditioner. There is no dryer machine but you dont need, there is a common space to hang your clothes and they dry pretty fast.
Each monday morning, if you wish so, they take your bedsheets and give you clean ones. When you come in they actually give you all the bedsheets you need + a pillow.
STUDY ROOM
Each floor has 2 study rooms, one in each aisle. They're big enough to be comfortable.
LOBBY
The lobby its open 24/7, since the residence is inside Lisbon, and the airport too, you will get used to hear planes passing every 30 minutes.
For those who are coming in fall semester: the entrance is on the 3rd september. It is a nice place to live, you have the cantine right outside and you can have a meal for 2.65 euros from 11 am to 3 pm. There is also a cafetería and another study room.
It is an old building, some things break appart/might not work (curtains, door handles, closet doors or drawers) but it has an elevator for reduced mobility.
Good luck with your studies.

Really dirty residence! No cash points no available kettles for the weekend to make a tea. A little disappointing! Also planes frequently fly over the lisbon area and its very noise polluted!

I lived there for ten months. If you are an Erasmus student and you're interested in this residence, keep reading.
The location couldn't be more perfect. The faculty of laws is opposite the building, the IMS faculty is also on the campus and the FSCH is 10 minutes walking from the residence. You'll be near the metro station (São Sebastião) and bus stops and you'll find many supermarkets near the residence as Pingo Doce or Minipreço, malls as El Corte Inglés and drugstores. However, you can hear the planes passing everytime. So, you'd better to get use to it because it's a bit annoying. But the zone where the residence is (Campolide) is a calm neighbourhood!
Accomodation prices are admissible. I think you won't find any place much cheaper. (If you apply for a single room with a shared bathroom, you'll pay 250€.) Just a little advice, keep all your receipts of your payments on a folder just in case because sometimes the administration is caothic and perhaps they can ask you a payment you have already did. If you're not Portuguese, you ought to know the residence staff doesn't accept foreign credit cards for payments, so you must pay the accomodation monthly payments by wire transfers or cash. You have a ATM on the first floor next to the elevator. The Wi-Fi is available for all the residents and it works perfectly.
The bedrooms aren't bad (maybe you may hear your next door neighbour due to the acoustic problems) but the bathrooms are small. (Towels aren't included.) So don't expect luxuries! Unless you prefer to hire the cleaning service, you have to clean it by yourself. You'll find brooms in the kitchens and vaccuums at the reception. However, once a week the cleaning service will replace your sheets if you need it. Some of the staff was nice but not all of them talked a fluent English.
You can give your key at the reception when you go out and you can enter and leave the residence at any time but remember to lock your door before leaving your room.
If you're not an excelent chef, there´s a cafeteria and a cantine next to the residence where you can have lunch for 2,75€. But if you prefer to cook your meals, there are many kitchens in the residence you can use. The residence staff cleans the kitchens everyday but don't be surprised if you come across the electrical appliances nasty or the sink clogged at night! Whether you'd rather leave your meals in the common fridge (not advised because you'll have to share the space with some expired food of other residents. If you use it, put your food in a bag) and freezer, you must be cautious because sometimes there are "thieves" who steal the food. To avoid this, you can rent a minifridge and store it in your room. (7,5€/month). Besides, I recommend you to buy your own cookware although you can find some from former residents.
If you're worried about your laundries, there are two laundries rooms in each floor with washing machines and a dryier on the 3rd floor. You can buy the coins to use them at the reception. Unless you have a Portuguese credit card, they won´t let you to pay in cash. So, when you do the accomodation monthly payment, you can add the washing coins in the wire transfer. (5€ for 4 washing coins). Detergent and conditioner aren´t included. If I were you, I would't pay for the coins for the dryier, even when you can put your clothes on the clotheslines.
If you can't concentrate in your room, there are some quiet study rooms with terraces with wonderful views of Montsanto although the 3rd floor north one is more a common area for residents where you can relax than a study room. If you're not able to get some place in any study room, there's also a building next to the residence to study too. Even you might work in the study room which is in the hall, next to reception.
About meeting people, the committee of the residents provides interesting activities and gives some parties on the below floor. You'll enjoy the social ambient here and know friends from many countries around the world!
So, if you choose this residence, you won't regret!
