Largo do Chiado, unlike its immediate neighbor, Praça Luís de Camões, is not that very well or distinctively known to tourists, not by name. Its boundaries are quite approximate too, Rua da Misericórdia to the west and up north, Rua do Alecrim to the west and down south, Rua Nova da Trindade to the east and up north, and Rua Garrett to the east. It is one of the liveliest corners of the central Lisbon with two noteworthy churches on its both sides, Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Loreto, aka Igreja dos Italianos, at its north side and Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação at its south side. To the east lies one of the main Chiado pedestrian thoroughfares, rua Garrett with its mid-level shopping, except for Hermès (otherwise, no Louis Vuitton or Cartier boutiques, for that head up Avenida da Liberdade) and two noteworthy stores, a dinnerware Vista Alegre (since 1824) and Leitão & Irmão Jewellers, located next door to each other. Further east, towards Rua Serpa Pinto (1 block) and Rua Anchieta (2 blocks) there are Lisbon's only 2-Michelin-star restaurants, Belcanto and Alma. Right off the corner of Largo do Chiado, to the east, there are two statues, the closest one is of António Ribeiro (1520? – 1591), one of the greatest poets of Portuguese Renaissance, second in fame and contemporary to Luís de Camões, and the second one, of a seated gentleman, is of Fernando Pessoa (1888 – 1935), undoubtedly the leading modernist artist of Portugal. The latter statue is positioned in front of the once-much-celebrated Bohemian cafe A Brasileira, that Pessoa used to frequent. Behind the statue of António Ribeiro, at Largo do Chiado's eastern corner, Fidelidade Arte is located, a contemporary art exhibition space that hosts temporary expositions.
