Delicious dinner in an atypical setting. Excellent price quality ratio (less than 40 euros for two including three main dishes, 1 shared dessert, three glasses of wine...). From the several nights we spent in Lisbon, this was our best pick.

Love it ! C'est le meilleur restaurant dans lequel nous avons mangé parmi nos nombreux voyages. Nous sommes accueilli par une dame super qui parle français anglais portugais .... super agréable. La nourriture est à tomber ( nous y sommes retourné 2 fois et on c'est régalé!!!) Tout est délicieux ( une préférence pour le gâteau au chocolat !) Pensez à réserver .

There is no sign, so it’s hard to find this place. Once found, you won’t regret. Food is really different from your everyday ordinary. The ingredients are some that others might not have it anywhere. The chef really know what he is doing. Service is excellent...it’s really a needle in a haystack.

Surely a needle in the haystack to find such fine food for very reasonable prices. We had the sardines, azore cheese, humus, sirloin with spinach and cottage cheese cake with pumpkin and strawberry sorbet. This was better than a michlen star restaurant we ate at.

We had dinner and it exceeded our expectations! It is a small and quaint place, intimate atmosphere. Early reservation is required. The food was absolutley delicious. The chef works in a small kitchen close to the dininng tables. The dishs are for sharing and the order they came out is thoughtful. The service was outstanding. My only comment is that we reserved the table for 21:30 and were onlu seated at 22:00. We were offered drinks.

Klein, familiär, freundlich und das Essen ist sehr lecker. ich habe einen Thunfisch Burger gegesssen und als Nachtisch einen Schokokuchen mit flüssigem Kern, der Kuchen wurde gerade frisch gebacken und hat einfah fantastisch geschmeckt. Die Karte ist klein und nur auf Portugiesisch aber die Besitzerin spricht hervorragend Englisch. Definitiv empfehlenswert! Muss man aber reservieren, da nicht so viele Sitzplätze und das Restaurant ist sehr beliebt.

Needle in a haystack is a small retro styled restaurant with open kitchen. Very cute, but the frequent slamming of fridge doors and washing of cutlery, makes this not for the sound sensitive. We ordered four dishes. Overall, for us it seemed to miss a bit of refinance and/or magic. The carrot was creative, but the dullness of carrot dominated. The bakalhauw was nicely cooked, but salty. The scrambled eggs dish was a bit tame The steak was just overcooked, but the sauce was delicious. The strawberry desert was lovely. The wines were good, but didn't have the hoped for symbiosis with the food. Service was very friendly. For Alfama neighborhood it is a nice exception to the fado restaurants, but have correct expectations on the level of gastronomy.

Needle in a Haystack is a treasure for food-lovers but with just 8 tables reservations are a must. Once you are there however be prepared to have some extremely well-concieved and expertly-executed plates. The food was fantastic and the flavors complimented each other perfectly.

Encontramos este restaurante por casualidad en Google ya que está muy cerquita de dónde dormíamos. En un principio pensé que sería un lugar para turistas de los que no merece mucho la pena, pero todo lo contrario, me alegro de que al final decidiéramos entrar!! Comida fusión muy sabrosa y original. El chef lo prepara todo en el mismo salón y la camarera lo explica todo con mucho detalle. El lugar es pequeño, así que mejor reservar antes por si acaso.

Make reservations and otherwise don't bother. This is the best meal/dining experience we have had in Lisbon. I sat there wanting to lick my plate, seriously. The tastes were like nothing before, the freshness perfect. I consider it some of the best food I have ever had. And do do the deserts, endulge if only just once.

Fantastic small restaurant Chef/Owner Antonio is on the details, passionate about ingredients and Portuguese wine. I had the hummus+Tapenade+Guacamole appetizer, the swordfish Sandwich, and chocolate cake. Plus 2007 Altas Quintas Reserva Touriga Nacional, plus 3 dessert wines!

I went here with my boyfriend in 2016 and it was amazing. The food was so good and the dessert was out of this world. This place is very cute and staff were super nice and helpful! If come back to Lisbon, I’m heading here straight away!

The night we ate the stove broke for most of the service. That’s just a worst case scenario for any restaurant looking out at a room with full chairs and empty tables. With that in mind....best bacalhau I’ve ever eaten, best pork belly I’ve ever eaten, best ricotta cake I’ve even eaten. All this served by a caring and level headed staff. The comfortable and slightly hip atmosphere all make for an enjoyable evening.

Small restaurant that came highly recommended. First of all it was a little chilly inside. Other than that the staff were fantastic. The waitress was superb, the food was really beautifully prepared and tasty. Cocktails were lovely and the whole evening extremely reasonably priced. A great evening out, I love this place. PS the desert was the best I’ve had, anywhere. Tuna sandwich was a high point. Thank you Needle in a haystack!

Amazing dinner, from the atmosphere, food, drinks, and staff. My husband and I split 3 dishes as recommended and also had 2 desserts and everything was so unique and plated beautifully. Awsome value for the meal and whole experience. I usually don't go back and eat at the same place on vacation but am thinking I need to for this place to try out the rest of the menu. Definetly a must try when in Lisbon!

Start to finish was angels dancing on my tongue. Great space with attentive and knowledgeable staff on hand to guide you through without feeling pressured or judged. You could just feel that they wanted you to have a great time and make the most of what the talented chef was cooking up and what the cellar had to offer. Bonus to this is the price, which is beyond reasonable for what you are getting. Can’t recommend highly enough. Believe all the 5 star reviews and as for those commenting on the music...we found it to be tasteful and not intrusive at all. Thanks for the great experience.

Posto molto carino, ma con pochi tavoli... È molto consigliato prenotare per evitare lunghe attese. Il cibo comunque vale le eventuali attese... Ho provato le sardine e il maiale cotto a bassa temperatura per 24 ore ed erano buonissimi. Ottimo anche il dolce alle fragoel. I piatti sono molto curati e ben eseguiti, con alcune cose geniali (l'aceto al lampone per esempio). La spesa è abbastanza economica (meno di 30 euro). Consigliatissimo.

Amazing restaurant for tapas-style food - our favourite of the trip! The staff are so lovely and take care to explain a dauntingly Portuguese menu. For 2 people, I'd recommend 3 dishes (we had 4 and it was too much!). We especially enjoyed the tapenade, hummus and guacamole dish - a perfect start to a lovely meal. Sardines are pictured.

Nous sommes arrivés dubitatif dans ce petit restaurant mignon et c est pourtant notre bonne surprise de notre semaine a lisbonne! La serveuse qui parle anglais francais espagnol portugais nous a accompagner parfaitement dans nos choix de nourritures et le barman dans nos boissons. Les cocktails comme la les plats sont très bien exécuté.

Мне понравилось, но это меньше, чем описано здесь. Место довольно маленькое, блюда на самом деле маленькие порции, которые должны быть разделены со всей группой (что само по себе не является чем-то плохим). Вы выбираете определенное количество порций и делитесь ими с группой. Это было вкусно, и официант был очень любезным, но это было просто не вкусно. У нас были большие ожидания (особенно от еды) из-за отзывов и фотографий, и я на самом деле предпочитаю отдельные блюда. Это хорошее место, с хорошими людьми, с хорошей едой, но не великолепной или невероятно вкусной. Если ваши ожидания оправдаются, вы будете очень довольны.

Выдающийся опыт в этой маленькой жемчужине ресторана. Мы прошли через меню нашей сказочной хозяйкой и выбрали восемь блюд, как рекомендовано для нашей вечеринки из шести. Сэндвич с тунцом был невероятным и выделялся из ряда отличных, причудливых блюд. Отличная сырная доска из отборных португальских сыров тоже была супер, запивая милым красным из региона Дору. Excelente! Se quiser ir, reserve mesa, caso contrário não deve conseguir entrar. Poucas opções de pratos, mas todos que pedimos estavam ótimos. As sobremesas, da mesma forma, foram surpreendentes (pior bolo de chocolate e bolo de ricota). Atendimento muito bom. Recomendo.

This place was beyond fantastic - deserves 6 stars! Absolutely go and make sure to make a reservation. Get the tuna sandwich, mushrooms, and steak for sure. And DO NOT pass on dessert. Ask for the chocolate cake. You won’t regret it!

Huh, why there are only 5 stars?? I would definitely give a sixth one! This place is a great spot for foodies who value quality of food, quality of drinks, helpfulness of service. Everything we had was touched with small details. With wine, coffee, 3 dishes and dessert we were absolutely surprised with very good price. To be honest 2h in you placed passed by very quickly while enjoying amazing food. Make sure that when you visit you book the table in advance as the place is tiny and quite busy on weekends!

5 stars doesn't do this place justice. This is really something else. The Bacalhao beats most dishes I've had a (multiple) Michelin star restaurant. The palette of the chef is absolutely exquisite. I would gladly pay twice what they charge and still feel like I got the right end of the deal.

Super moment dans ce restaurant. Bières artisanales et vin très bons. Les plats à partager étaient délicieux. Mention spéciale pour le sandwich au thon et le gâteau au chocolat. Nice experience with great value for money - an open kitchen and cosy restaurant with small but nicely curated menu. Amazing food and very friendly staff. Reservations are required. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived and they brought us complimentary wine and seating for us outside while we waited. The staff seems to genuinely care about your dining experience. This place was recommended by our Airbnb host and it may very well have been the best meal we had in Portugal and it was surprisingly affordable.

I reserved a table for me and my boyfriend one month ago for today (22.9) and it got confirmed. They cancelled it some hours ago. Very disappointing, since we wanted to celebrate his 30th birthday.

今まさに食べ終わるところなんですが、もう全部何もかもおいしかった！
バカリャウのソテーはかなり塩気も抜けてて、元干物とは思えないほどふわふわ。シーフードのスクランブルエッグも絶品です。熱々のうちにぜひ。写真撮ってる場合じゃないですよ。
自分たちが行った日は、本日のジュースがいちごおよびメロンだったんですが、何これ。どっちも濃縮なしの100%ジュース。お店でつぶしたてのドロリンとした、ジュースというよりソースなんじゃないかという濃厚さ。
Baixa-Chiadeから地下鉄で2駅なので、離れているような感じがしつつ、実は近いという。早くも再訪決定です。あとはいつまたリスボンに来られるんだっていう…。

Most amazing tuna burger. Waitress really helpful and recommend a wonderful and really different wine to match our food. Menu is Portuguese but you are walked through it in English if required. It's been a long time since I was compelled to thank the chef in a restaurant.

Fantastic food. Well thought and perfectly put together. The fig salad was truly perfect and the Goats cheese parcel with apple incredibly clever and delicious. We went crazy and had the tuna sandwich which was a lesson in how to cook a piece of tuna to perfection. The addition of wasabi mayo and the clever addition of beansprouts made this very good indeed. Well put together with excellent front of house team. Thank you for a great night.

Dann steht einem fantastischem Dinner nichts im Wege. Aromen und Zutaten in perfekter Balance. Uns wurde hinsichtlich der Zusammenstellung eine Empfehlung ausgesprochen - hier hat man das Herzblut/Leidenschaft des Personals förmlich spüren können.

Mention spéciale pour ce restaurant qui clôture notre séjour à Lisbonne. À peine une dizaine de table, pas de nom sur la devanture mais on comprend rapidement pourquoi ils ne sont pas obligés de se faire de publicité !! Il y règne une très bonne ambiance avec des plats préparés avec passion. Notre serveur était vraiment au top parlant aussi bien portugais, anglais que français. Je recommande ce restaurant et je vous conseille de réserver à l'avance.

Easily the best dinner we’ve had in Lisbon after 2 weeks and we discovered it the last evening we’re here. Interesting name meaning “needle in a haystack “, my wife figured it out because the restaurant does not advertise its name in front. So, unless you know where you’re going, you wouldn’t know there’s a restaurant in that hole in the wall spot! We ordered 3 dishes, goat cheese in filo dough, an egg dish with caviar, and a bacalhau dish. All were excellent! Very unique and the tastes were excellent. We had the chocolate dessert which definitely did not disappoint. I never do this but before leaving I felt obliged to compliment the chef. Lugar excelente. Diferente, minimalista. Qualidade e atencao aos detalhes. Recomendo muito!

Very fine dishes (petiscos). they are larger then tapas but you can easily share several dishes so you can taste of several plates.
I found it very tastefully and refined and presented very nicely.
Helpful and friendly staff.
It's a small place so reservation is recommended.
Prices are about average for Lisbon standards

Absolutamente inesperado! Num espaço antigo em que muita da tradição se mantém, encontramos elementos antigos misturados com um ambiente hipster, música alternativa, empregados muito simpáticos e comida deliciosa! Os cogumelos à Bulhão Pato e o Pior Bolo de Chocolate do Mundo são imperdíveis!

Ristorantino molto piccolo, carino e accogliente nel quartiere di Alfama. Cibo di notevole qualità e freschezza servito con molta affabilità e con un certo estro compositivo del piatto. Ottimo l‘hamburger di tonno con contorno di frutta e verdura dolce e una sfiziosa salsina al formaggio. Da urlo il tortino col cuore caldo al cioccolato..Prezzo non esoso e corrispondente alla qualità. Il locale risulta un po‘ troppo buio per i miei gusti e la musica non la definirei proprio di sottofondo

This restaurant is one of these places, when you go to it because of good reviews and then wonder why it is so highly rated The food is good, delicious, but that is what I usually expect in restaurants. I had cod fish, the portion was small, the price could be cheaper. Strawberry Margarita 7 euros. What surprised me the most, it was loud rap music, so my wish was to eat and escape quicker. From 18:45 to 19:45 I was the only visitor, while the other tavernas were full of people. Menus are only in Portuguese. Limited choice of hot dishes: cod, tuna, salmon, beef and pork belly.

Lovely food and great service! We tried the tuna burger and mushrooms with lime. Both were delicious. And the mojito was the best I've ever had. Will highly recommend this place.

Awesome tapas, so tasty we've augmented the recommended three plates course with a fourth plate. Me and my lady had, in this order: goat cheese with salad, sardinhas, pika-pau (?) - roastbeef, tuna sandwich. House red was excellent, too. Staff friendly and helpful. Somewhat hipster vibe but decent and not in-your-face. Given the meal quality, decor, and service, the prices are great, ranging from 6 - 12 EUR per plate. We'll be back.

Excellent service who had great recommendations for food. We completely did not expect this standard of food as we just happened to walk past. While eating, wondered why this place was not super full with a queue - deserves to be more popular! Definitely recommend to eat the goat cheese tart, tuna burger, and lemon mushrooms even if not in the area. If you are around Santa Apolonia train station, its a don't miss!

Everything about this place was spectacular! From the bartender that made original cocktails, to the server that had spot on recommendations, to the chefs that made incredible meals and stopped by the table to chat about the wine, to the chill music, hip atmosphere, and craft beer selection.

Kleines feines Lokal. Service top. Koch kann man beim Kochen zuschauen. Entspannte chill Musik. Sollte man ml ausprobiert haben. Karte leider nicht auf englisch vorhanden. Sonst ist aber die Deko und die Stimmung echt cool... probiert es einfach mal aus.. einfach frisch. Lecker und selbstgemacht...

We were there in November, we came just before closing which was no problem. We received excellent service and were served the chefs choice. It was great! The place looks cozy & classy and the music was original, divers and adding to the vibe. We had a great time, thanks guys!

very unfriendly and absorbed service. we came late without reservation and asked if we could still have dinner. he told us he would ask. then he let us wait and when we aksed again he told us that there were persons waiting who would get warm food which is "more important". very disappointing, because the restaurant looked good.
