I wanted to take some Portuguese classes but unfortunately I couldn't start on a Monday therefore I wrote an email. Already the next day I received a reply by Marco. Within one day he managed to organize a schedule for those individual classes for me, which I think is very fast. Thanks for that Marco! I took 20 individual lessons at this school with Barbara. Having 4 classes each working day was not easy for me, but Barbara is a great teacher! Sometimes I wish that her English was better that I could ask more complex questions regarding grammar, but on the other hand this circumstance makes it inevitable to try and speak Portuguese which I did a lot! (Sorry for my bad Portuguese Barbara!) All the staff I got to know were very friendly. And all my expectations were over-exceeded! I hope I'll be able to come back soon and take some more classes. I totally can recommend this school and I totally can recommend Barbara as teacher! Thank you guys for having me there!

I showed up to Lisbon wanting to do a language course and I visited a couple of schools. Only at Portuguese Connections was I greeted warmly and made to feel welcome, I was given a free placement test and placed into what felt like the correct level class for me. The teachers are all passionate, highly educated (I believe they all have degrees), and have a good teaching program for the small groups that they teach. They are friendly and will focus on weak areas and are happy to deviate the class plan to ensure the group understands the concepts that are being taught. They classes revolved around learning verb conjugations, learning various adjectives and nouns, sentence structure, and speaking exercises and games which I felt really accelerated the learning process. They are also certified and part of the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' - and after 3 weeks of intensive group classes I passed the A1 level (it is optional to do the exams and go through the levels - and I didn't need to, I just liked the structure of it), and I felt a big improvement in my ability to converse. It is a fun, welcoming and great place to learn Portuguese

Fantastic staff who are extremely enthusiastic, passionate and know how to have fun. They don't babysit you and will try to cover a lot of content in a small amount of time, but are also extremely flexible and will consistently check your progress and provide assistance whenever necessary. Extremely approachable and school activities are a great way to meet other students and learn about Lisboa outside of just the language. Can't wait to go back!

The teachers at Portuguese Connection have an interest in what they do and they seem to care for their students. This is a good thing. However, language courses in general are hard to teach well, especially to adults, and at times more effort could have been put into diversifying the lessons. Rather than having us simply read and do worksheets over and over again, we should be conversing and practicing our knowledge in a more conversational context. Worksheets are valuable, but should not formulate the greater part of the lesson. On more than one occasion, lessons focused more on completing worksheets and taking up homework than talking and applying the knowledge we have learned in a practical setting. But overall the lessons were usually fun and my Portuguese improved; I appreciate the efforts of the teachers. Unfortunately, the school does not communicate well regarding the commencement of new courses. I have taken two separate courses with the school, and on both occasions the starting date was postponed, and I was notified only at the last minute (the day before/of the scheduled starting class). While I understand that a minimum number of students is required to start a course, the school needs to remember that the students who have confirmed are ready and prepared to start. We have already adjusted our schedules accordingly. Giving us a couple of hours notice that the course will not be starting is inconsiderate. More recently, I was prepared to start a new course for the third time with Portuguese Connection. I had confirmed with the school that I would be attending. The first lesson was to start on a Tuesday at 19:00. I only received an email on that same day, less than four hours before, that the course would be postponed one week. During that one week, the school did not contact me. I had to call the school myself, the day before the course was supposed to start (for a second time), only to find out that the course itself would be postponed until further notice. I have yet to receive any information about this course. Again, I understand that situations arise and students drop in and out of the school. But communication between the school and students, regardless of whether they are at a beginner or intermediate level, needs to improve.

I had a fantastic experience at Portuguese Connection. In February 2019 I did an intensive course during 4 weeks (4 hours per day of group lessons in the morning and 1 hour per day of private lessons in the afternoon). I’ve taken language courses in several countries over the years and Portuguese Connection was the best. It was the only language school in Lisbon that replied to my email inquiries immediately (other schools took several weeks to write back). The communication with the staff prior to my trip was exceptional (thanks Lidia, Joana and Marco!). On the first day of classes I loved the warmth with which I was received, a warmth that did not diminish during the 4 weeks of my studies. It took a free online placement test and was placed in the correct language level (a crucial detail that was not taken for granted considering past bad experiences). The teachers rotate every week, helping students familiarize themselves with different accents and idioms of the many parts of Portugal. Depending of the week, in my group class we were between 4 and 6 students - I was told that in the summer classes are a bit more crowded, but classrooms are physically small, thus I assume they could probably fit 8 or 9 students at the most. I was impressed by the coordination, communication, and teamwork between teachers: they all seemed to know each student’s profile, level, interests , and language weaknesses, therefore their teaching was highly efficient and effective. My classes were given by Marília, Gonzalo, Susana and Joana, all superb teachers and delightful people. In sum, big thumbs up for Portuguese Connection, and thanks for helping me improve my Portuguese!

Great school where to study Portuguese in a welcoming and friendly environment. Professional staff, with friendly manners and lots of attention for the students. The best school in the capital to learn and improve português language , I searched 2 weeks & went 5 other schools, with no doubt, I came back and registered here, This is what I needed. Listening skills and conversation activities make Portuguese connection unique. The methods of teaching and the quality of education are marvelous.

I spent three weeks in the school and it was amazing time! I really enjoyed the level of my Portuguese classes, helpfulness, cordiality and commitment of teachers and staff. I also attending painting classes organized by the school. My teacher Paula was very competent, patient and friendly, thanks to her I learn a lot. For example I prepared my own, beautiful azulejos. It was wonderful experience.

Very efficient school. And, more importantly, very friendly. Why: 1. The teachers are the best -- they went above and beyond to make sure that I pass my CIPLE exam (official state exam for foreigners, this school has special classes for it). From my close-to-zero level. 2. They even found ways to work around my schedule: during a couple of weeks when I could not attend all classes in person, they arranged classes via Skype for me! 3. In addition, the owners of the school, Joana and Marco, are doing a lot to create a very friendly atmosphere and ensure students try to talk and to chat (in Portuguese of course). And that we get to know a little bit of the culture (numerous tips, but also quite a few real tours, most of which I could not attend though). Thank you all! I studied Portuguese in this school for one month (80 hours intensive course) and I had a great experiences that could’ve not been better! The environment was very warm and friendly and the teachers were amazing with no expectations. I had classes with three different teachers and they were all incredibly excellent! The school directors, Marco and Joana, were really friendly and hospitable and were always available and willing to help whenever I needed them. They also arranged a home stay for me with a very nice family (Mara and Miguel) at Graca where I stayed for the whole month. On a personal level, I’ve never studied Portuguese before and I’m really satisfied with my Portuguese now where I can follow most of the conversations just in a matter of 4 weeks! Finally, if you are planning to study Portuguese, I highly recommend Portuguese Connection School and I will definitely come back here in the near future!

En outre, Lisbonne est une ville fantastique. Une ville du sud qui ne vous laissera jamais à bout. La vie nocturne y est également incroyable ;) ! Fantastic school! I took two weeks of an intensive course in summer and learned so much during that time. The class sizes are really small, which was great as I had almost individual classes. There is a very good balance between learning grammar, talking and listening. The teachers are excellent and obviously enjoy what they are doing. The school has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and is well located in Lisbon, just above Bairro Alto. I am so happy I chose that school and hope to return again!

I studied at Portuguese Connection for one month and had a fantastic time, I would certainly recommend this school to everybody! The class sizes are small, so the content is really targeted to the students and everybody receives 1-on-1 attention. The lessons are set at the pace of the students and the consideration taken to put students in classes where they are most comfortable is very evident. The teachers are all fantastic, and the fact that they change the teacher weekly means you get a more rounded learning experience! The staff were all amazing, and the effort that Joana and Marco make to keep the atmosphere at Portuguese Connection lighthearted, fun and happy is very evident and this also really helped my Portuguese to advance at a faster pace! I also participated in the weekly activities which I would highly recommend as you really get to know parts of Lisbon you would otherwise have no idea about thanks to the insider knowledge of Annalisa, such as a sardine art museum! If given the choice I would not go anywhere else, I highly recommend Portuguese Connection!

My experience learning Portuguese could not have been better :) I stayed three weeks in June, and I'm so happy I chose this school! We had small classes which made sure everybody got a lot of personal attention. The teachers made you feel welcome and comfortable to ask questions. The environment in the school was so warm and friendly, it was almost like a family away from home! The school isn't that big, which I loved, because then it's easy to get to know most teachers and other students easily. Love the excursions organized as well, whether it's watching a Portuguese World Championship football game together or exploring a non-touristy neighborhood in Lisbon. Location of the school is super central as well. If I could I would go back immediately :) Will never forget this experience!

I visited 80 hourse of private class with the school to strengthen my Portuguese. I had the pleasure to attend classes with Barbara and Sílvia during the period of four months. I choose a quite extensive workload of hours per week and therefore we met three times a week for two hours. The amazing thing about the school is that they have a nice welcoming and family-like athmosphere. Something that is at the beginning quite strange for a cold hearthed German, but something you fall in love quickly. The team was always very flexible regarding changes of schedules and very very patient with all my wishes, errors and my inability to "aprender" ;-). This made me feel always confortable and in good hands. To cut it short: I had an amazing experience and can recommend it to anybody how wants to get to know the Portuguese language.

I attended group classes for 4 weeks and 1 week of private classes. I had taken Portuguese language courses previously in Brazil as a base, but this school really reinforced proper grammar and encouraged oral language skills. Before I started, I was always nervous speaking Portuguese and could never form the correct words/tenses when trying to speak. 100 percent recommended!! From the time I got in contact with the Portuguese Connection they were always professional, prompt and willing to work through scheduling challenges. It was very nice, in contrast to other Portuguese language schools I emailed, to always get a response with in 24hrs. Administratively and from a customer service stand point, they are everything you could hope for!! The language classes themselves were just as good!! All the teachers are extremely invested in you learning Portuguese and to understanding what each individual student needs. I felt that even in a group setting the teacher helped me with my individual needs. The style is immersive and a great balance between grammar and conversation. I can’t say enough about the quality instruction and quality of the teachers! Portuguese Connection will always be my blueprint for what to look for in a language school.

Fantastic language school - really engaging teachers, interesting topics and great classmates to share the learning experience with. I had no previous experience of Portuguese, but had helpful experience with other European languages, and my teacher was able to provide teaching at just the right level to keep me challenged and fully engaged. It is an excellent place to learn Portuguese! All the teaching staff and the management team are very professional and friendly. The location is very central. Once a week, you can join a trip to a museum or another sightseeing with the school. I had three weeks of course in 2019 and one month this year. Definitely recommend it!!

I started at the school as a total beginner. The native teachers were very knowledgeable and all different in their teaching. After 3 weeks I was upgraded to the next level for my remaining 4 weeks. I had a great experience of Portugal and Lisbon especially. I recommend this school for their friendliness and experience, and for the good location close to many historic sites and superb public transportation.

I had an amazing 2.5 months at Portuguese Connection school in Lisbon. Not only did the wonderful teachers teach/help me to pass my A2 exam with 80%, but I also learnt about the Portuguese culture, food, history and much more. If I hadn't had gone I would never have gotten to know Portugal and Portuguese as well as I have. As part of the summer school we had a lot of activities and it was very intense especially since the activities were also lead in Portuguese but the intensity was essential for full cultural immersion (although the use of English was never looked down upon if something was misunderstood). All the activities were very diverse and often we'd end up in places that as tourists we would have never known about. From day 1 the teachers were all very welcoming and students, who were of all ages and ethnicities, were always open to chat and happy to befriend each other. A lot of us stayed in the same accomodation and it was very enjoyable being able to have drinks and dinner on the terrace together: it really felt like a community. By the end of it you get to know everyone so well and get into such a routine that you don't even want to leave! The teacher student relationship is also very close and personal and the directors of the school, who are also always present and involved in the school activities, are clearly wonderful at their job. Of course whether you like the teaching style of a particular teacher entirely depends on you because as some other reviews have mentioned, some days the lessons are more grammar-heavy whilst other days it's entirely focused on conversation but what matters the most is that you get a big say on how the lessons are lead. If, for example, you want more conversation there are plenty of opportunities to contribute to and expand on a particular topic/debate. However if there is some grammar you don't understand then the teachers are always happy to focus on that too (you're also given a textbook, which is used for learning Portuguese in universities, to take home). There is so much more I could say but the truth is that, in my opinion, this is exactly what a language school should be like. Thank you to Marco, Joana, both Andreia's and everyone else!

I highly recommend this school to anyone! Last June I followed the intensive combined classes for a period of 2 weeks. I really like the warm approach of the owners Marco and Joana including the teachers. From the moment you enter the school, they all make you feel very welcome , and are truly interested in you as person as well. The teachers are enthusiastic and also use some humor in their lessons. For me as a beginner , this was a perfect start and I think the lessons are high quality. What I also like about this school is the flexibility. They can make a personal program for you, and alterations are no problem. Just send them an email, and they will contact you! I will definitely return soon , and in the mean time l am having online classes with Conçalo twice a week! Thank you for your enormous patience when I am struggling!

I attended Portuguese Connection for more than one week in July 2019 for both group classes and 1:1 training leading up to taking the A2-level CIPLE exam. I loved attending these classes and the welcoming spirit and professionalism of the teachers and staff at Portuguese Connection. The teachers are extremely skilled and dedicated at their jobs and keep the lessons fun, interesting and germane to what you’ll experience in “real life” in conversations and with written and spoken Portuguese. And the lounge, coffee-break area, and fun external activities around Lisbon allow for different ways to practice your Portuguese skills with other students, teachers, and staff. Also, our class of 9 students had representation from 7 nations on 3 continents, with age ranges from 17 to over 60 and some incredible-incredible job and life experiences to draw from! Super-highly recommended if you're interested in some immersive training in speaking Portuguese: from an absolute beginner level to sharpening your skill set, and whether it be for a week or month(s). My experience with Portuguese Connection was fantastic, I couldn’t speak more highly of the school. I attended for three weeks in June 2019. It was a mixture of group and individual classes. There were a lot of holidays when I was there but I feel like the school went out of it’s way to ensure that I still received the lessons I signed up for; they are a hard working bunch. The class sizes are small so you receive lots of attention and I felt like they were great at assessing my level and providing material accordingly. The teachers and staff were all wonderful, because of the small class sizes you can have a pretty personal relationship with your teacher and it’s definitely an asset. Also, they are all pretty funny, I laughed a lot. On top of that, they plan social activities at least once a week that help you get to know Lisboa. If you travel around the country they have great recommendations for what to do in other cities, especially Porto! If you are thinking of studying Portguese in Lisboa I highly recommend this school.

I spent a week learning Portuguese at Portuguese Connection in July 2019. As a languages teacher myself, I was very impressed with the quality of teaching and variety of activities. The teacher spoke entirely Portuguese (except if we requested translation) and went out of her way to help me. We were provided with a book, exercise book and worksheets - as well as a gift and certificate at the end of the course - at no extra cost. There is a cosy lounge and tea/coffee and snacks are provided free of charge. The course was efficiently administered both before and during the course. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend Portuguese Connection to everyone and hope to return myself in the future.

If you want to learn Portuguese I absolutely recommend this school! I started a year a go with the extensive courses and now I am already able to follow most conversations around me. The teachers at the school are professional and very enthusiastic, and there is a nice balance between learning grammar and listening/speaking. The classes are small (8-10 people), so everybody gets plenty of attention and you can practice and make mistakes in a safe environment. Finally the courses are way cheaper than most language schools I checked, but the quality of the classes is at least as high!

Portuguese Connection exceeded our expectations in every way. Highlights included small class size, excellent teachers and amiable staff. In class, teachers explained grammar with clarity and presented interesting lessons in a congenial manner. The teachers and staff at the school obviously enjoy sharing their language and culture. I spent three incredible months at Portuguese Connection last year. I was a complete beginner when I started and left with a good level, having completed A1, A2, B1 and parts of B2. I can't stress enough how fantastic my teachers were. Many of them have a keen interest and postgraduate qualifications in linguistics and foreign languages (some of them speak over 6 languages!) which gives them a very deep understanding of the Portuguese language and the difficulties students face at different stages of learning. I spent most of my classes with a Finnish and a Japanese student (I'm a native French speaker), and it was very apparent that the teacher knew how to tailor their teaching to match each of our very distinctive needs. I also really liked that we switches teachers each week, as each teacher emphasised different methods of learning. This ensured that we struck the right balance between different types of grammar, oral and conversational exercises. I took the intensive course with private afternoon classes and would highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn the language quick. The private classes enabled me to really consolidate what I'd learned during the morning classes. Alongside the quality of teaching, what makes this school truly special is the dynamic and friendly atmosphere created by the members of staff (and its four-legged resident, Maggie). Joanna, Marco and Annalisa are incredibly passionate about the school, and always went out of their way to ensure that everyone had a great experience of not just the school, but more broadly of Lisbon. Some of the best moments I had were during the weekly trips organised by Annalisa, in which we got to discover the city through the eyes of a local. Highlights included doing a Lisbon food tour of culinary staples discovering the many facets of Lisbon street art. I also took art classes via the school, with a lovely artist called Paula. We practiced a variety of techniques and went to different museums and scenic spots to practice painting. I even got the chance to paint my own Azulejo, the characteristic blue tile found all over Lisbon. To conclude, I can't recommend this school enough. I left with a solid base in Portuguese, a love of Lisbon and Portuguese culture and a longing to come back to the school as soon as possible.

I chose to study at Portuguese Connection - for two weeks in November 2017 -mainly because of the extremely positive reviews I read online. I was not disappointed. The school is exactly as others have described - a very friendly place filled with approachable, enthusiastic teachers who do their very best to help you learn. The fact that it is centrally located, close to public transport and cultural attractions, is a bonus. I had a fantastic experience at Portuguese Connection, and highly recommend the school to others.

This is the best school if you want to learn Portuguese! I have been to many language schools and speak now seven languages. No one of the others are half as good as Portuguese Connection. We spend 6 weeks in wonderful Lisbon and after this six weeks course I can already express myself and understand much better Portuguese. Our idea is to move to Lisbon and once we are there the first thing we will do is to register at Portuguese Connection. It is a young team of very dinamic, open and indeed very nice people. Everything works smoothfully and the qualifications of the teachers is exceptional. Don't hesitate, join them as soon as possible!

If you've are looking to study Portuguese in Lisbon then I highly recommend Portuguese Connection. The staff are incredibly friendly and really go out of their way to make you feel at home. They will speak to you only in Portuguese right from the very first day. The school also offers a variety of cultural tours to different parts of the city and surrounding areas. You can also do activities such as surfing at a discounted rate. The school is deservedly considered the best Portuguese school in Lisbon.

After studying at Portuguese Connection school for several weeks I am able to say that is is absolutely the right school to study at! The school is set in a great location, each one of the teachers at the school is amazing- so friendly and warm. The school is very flexible and accommodating to every request. The teaching method integrates different means of studying, especially ones that interest each student specifically (I learned using music, reading and talking amongst other more conventional methods, something tailored towards me and my interests and abilities). In conclusion- an amazing experience, somewhere I'll always be glad to return to!

I spent two wonderful months (July and August 2017) in Portuguese Connection and i can't remember a single day, when i didn't want to go classes. I found the school by chance, as i was planning to go to Portugal this summer and i just asked myself «What don't i study portuguese?». Immediately after making this question to myself, i started searching for a course in internet and i found Portuguese Connection. After reading comments and reviews left by former students, i made up my mind: i was definitely going to this school. The staff was very friendly and helpful, every time i asked something about lessons or accomodation, so i was really looking forward for coming. And, my expectations were the right ones: the school turned out to be absolutely wondeful. I strongly believe that, when people work with so much dedication and love, you can easily feel it. And it was all about the school. The staff (Joana, Marco e Annalisa) are those people who care about each student who comes to the school, who try to do their best in order to provide everything you need (even if sometimes it doesn't refer to studying process) and make you feel at home. All teachers are very friendly and positive as well, each one has her/his own approach for teaching you, some of them are excellent at explaining grammar, some of them dedicate more time to talking, but all of them perfectly know how to teach and try to make the lessons interesting. And of course, i can't help mentioning a very special member of the team – a dog Maggie, who keeps an eye on students and creates a cosy home atmosfere with her presence. I also think that this school attracts very special people and that is one more reason to choose it, if you are searching for new friendships or just want to meet people from all over the world who can share your way of thinking. Attending Portuguese Connection language school was an amazing experience that went beyond my expectations. For me personally, learning Portuguese was a life long goal that I never got around to. When I finally had the opportunity to do so, finding the right school was a very important decision to make. After finding Portuguese connection online, I found the staff to be very engaging and helpful. They even went as far as helping me find accommodation. Once I got there, I felt like I had known the staff for years, they really make you feel at home. The teachers are so friendly and the classes were a lot of fun and engaging. Excellent teaching from a dynamic team, who have created a wonderful atmosphere where you are made to feel truly at home. Great school, great people, great experience. The school provides a friendly and welcoming environment for people from all over the world to feel comfortable learning Portuguese. It's location is very convenient in the sense that it is right downtown, walking distance to restaurants, close to the famous Rio Tejo, and close to public transportation. Annalisa will take the students on weekly tours around the city which is a great chance to explore Lisbon and to practice Portuguese outside the school. The in class lessons are great for people who learn better in groups and provide a great environment to practice and learn the language with other learners. The online, or one-to-one, classes are also extremely helpful and provide a classroom setting that allows you to move at your own pace that you are comfortable with and that allows one-to-one constructive analysis and feedback of your language skills. Overall, amazing school. I highly recommend studying here if you are considering language lessons in Lisbon.

My husband and I moved to Lisbon about a year and 8 months ago, and as we knew virtually no Portuguese, we were on the lookout for a good language school. Even after quite a bit of online searching I couldn't make a decision. Then one day I was walking through Praça do Principe Real and noticed the Portuguese Connection sign on the building. I remembered the name from my online search and thought, wow, what a beautiful location...I really need to learn more about this place! One thing I knew I didn't want was an impersonal atmosphere in a kind of office-building environment. If you don't yet know Lisbon, you're in for a treat when you see the neighbourhood where Portuguese Connection is located! Anyway, I sent an email to them, and even though the school was officially closed for the December holiday, Marco offered to meet me at the school (how awesome is that?) so I could find out more. Well, I was sold. Marco and Joana (who I met later, when I started classes) are some of the nicest people I've ever come to know, as well as the most caring and professional. And the school they have built, together with their wonderful staff starring the wondrous Annalisa, reflects all these aspects of their personalities. They hire the best teachers, people who really care about their students, and who really know how to make learning both enjoyable and effective. Personally I love that the school is small, the classes are small, and the atmosphere is like a family (the best kind of family!). Also, there are many different kinds of classes to meet the needs of all kinds of students. At the beginning I took intensive classes, most weeks, for several months in a row. I progressed from A1.2 to B2 this way, and for some months now I have been doing individual classes, mostly two or three times a week. Since my husband works in another city during the week, he takes one individual class in person and one via Skype every week, which works out great for him. Another great thing about the school is that it's dog friendly! For some months I brought my Samoyed with me to every class, and she really enjoyed playing with Maggie, the adorable and sweet school mascot (Joana and Marco's yellow Labrador), and saying hello to all the people she met. Nowadays she goes to a play-group three times a week; I found out about the group because of a tip that Joana gave me. I also found the excellent vet that my dog goes to, thanks to a great recommendation from Joana. Over a year after moving to Lisbon, my husband and I are more convinced than ever that we made the right decision. This luminous city really has it all: cultural events and offerings of all kinds, a range of delicious food from traditional dishes to cutting-edge cuisine, street scenes fit for a travel magazine around every corner, and the perfect size: not too big, just big enough. And yet all of that pales in comparison to the kindness and friendliness of Lisboetas (Lisboners) and the Portuguese people. Right from the start, I always felt welcomed by people here. I really can't say enough good about Portuguese Connection. It's been largely thanks to the people I've met there, including many of my fellow students, that I've had such a great experience in my new home city.

La cosa che mi ha fatto più affezionare a questa scuola è l'ambiente giovane e dinamico, e la confidenza che sei da subito in grado di instaurare con lo staff. At the age of 58 I relocated to Lisbon and commenced a 3 week intensive course with Portuguese Connection. Although previously I'd had some success in learning German and French, I found the course really tough. European Portuguese is not an easy language for English-speaking people to learn, the grammar is difficult and the pronunciation is also a challenge. But thanks to the best language teaching I'd ever experienced, by the end of the course I could already start to communicate. Now, after an additional year of private tuition with one of their top notch teachers, I'm really starting to feel comfortable with the language. In addition, Portuguese Connection has offered me so much more than just the language. Joana, Marco, Annalisa and Maggie have, through their kindness and support, enabled me to really feel a part of Lisbon from the very first week. They have gone out of their way to encourage me on my shaky path towards proficiency in Portuguese, to advise on the many problems that one inevitably has when moving to a new country and to help connect me with other students who have subsequently become great friends. I can't recommend Portuguese Connection highly enough!!!

My wife and I moved to Lisbon almost two years ago. At the time, we spoke no Portuguese whatsoever, and did not know anyone in Portugal. We started lessons at Portuguese Connection shortly after we arrived, and enjoy the experience so much that we have continued taking classes there every week and plan to continue doing so. The teaching quality is on par with Columbia University and Yale Law School, where my wife and I studied. Not only are the teachers highly qualified linguistics experts, but each teacher who we have studied with is an innately gifted educator. In our experience, the teachers are extremely passionate about instructing students, and genuinely care about their student's success - both in the Portuguese language AND outside of the classroom as well. The staff are constantly asking students how their experience in Lisbon is going, and offer invaluable advice - whether the student is just staying for a short visit in Lisbon, or looking to live here full time. For us, Portuguese Connection is far more than just a place to take language lessons. It's a real cornerstone of our experience living in Portugal. We've made close friends with other students at the school who feel exactly the same way as we do. I loved every minute of my week at Portuguese connection. There is an extremely friendly atmosphere around the school, and all of the teachers are extremely friendly. The location and the facilities are also very good. Throughout the course of just 4 days of individual lessons, my spoken Portuguese undoubtedly improved dramatically, and I immediately felt the confidence to go out into the great city of Lisbon and talk with the locals! Would certainly recommend to anyone who wants to improve their language, whilst also meeting some very good people along the way.

This December I did my second two-week class with Joana's school. After having been her student once before when she was still an employee in Porto. Joana has succeeded to have a superb staff that upholds the high standard of teaching that I knew from herself. Management of the school is excellent and my hosts were the nicest and most interesting people to meet. On leaving, I felt quite comfortable speaking Portuguese. I will come again, and again, and again.

If you want to learn Portuguese while being surrounded with positive, warm and professional people (and an extremely welcoming dog - Maggie), then Portuguese Connection is the school for you. With a beautiful interior and surroundings, located in the centre of Lisbon - you just cross the street and have a beautiful green oasis to take deep breaths in - it was a pleasure just walking to the school every morning. The teachers are amazing - during the two weeks I stayed, my teachers were Ivan and Carla, both of which really nice and open. Everyone is flexible and they know how to make Portuguese lessons interesting and challenging, while still fun. Portuguese Connection is an amazing language school in the heart of Lisbon, Principe Real, a great location! I would recommend this school to anyone considering Portuguese lessons. The school has really well structured lessons taught by amazing teachers. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere down to the lovely teachers and owners make it a place you will want to return to. I will definitely be going back next year to brush up on my Portuguese :-)

I was so lucky to discover Portuguese Connection! Within 24hrs of my phone call (from Evora) l was enjoying private lessons with the wonderful teacher Ana. Nothing was too hard for Annalisa to arrange - even though l had no email at the time. Ana made me feel so relaxed that l could absorb and learn - l felt l really made progress in the week l had with her - l didn´t want to leave. Attending the school was a highlight of my two month cycle ride through the country. I loved Lisbon and would go back to Principe Real - it became my favourite area.

This is a wonderful and lovely language school and I had such a cool experience there. My husband and I have just had the most wonderful learning experience at Portuguese Connection language school.We both did five mornings of Portuguese language and ,in the afternoons,I did a painting course and my husband did wine-tasting. My teachers were such fun and even my reticent husband enjoyed the language part,so if he can do it everyone can. We both loved our afternoon course.My teacher ,Paula,gave me so much more time than she needed to and we saw exhibitions,painted a Portuguese tile and did watercolour en plain air.We became good friends and even shared a few meals. Greg's group were great fun and they learned a lot about wine and also had a day trip to a vineyard. Greg and I stayed in the Caso do Principe hotel in the same building.Not only was it a bijou hotel,but we were in our classrooms five minutes after breakfast.Being in the centre of Lisbon allowed us to experience the culture of this fabulous city. I just loved this school, because of its great athmosphere and great teachers. The location is just perfect for having classes and exploring Lisbon afterwards. Looking forward to coming back any time soon :)

I've studied at this school for nearly 6 months, because I somehow always came back... ;). My experience started with a super intensive 2 weeks course (4h group classes + 2 individual each day) in the beginning of September, to prepare me for Portuguese classes in my upcoming Erasmus semester. I spoke some Spanish before, but still I was amazed how quickly I actually could start to speak Portuguese in my daily life. Even though this program was a very tough one, my teachers managed to make every single class pleasant, interesting and informative. I was planning to go on with an extensive course (2h twice a week) anyway, but as I hardly had any classes in the morning at my university and I so much enjoyed learning Portuguese, I chose to go on with 1 week/month of group classes. The school was very helpful finding suitable groups for me in this time. As they knew my level and difficulties by then, and could connect them to similar students, I would say the result were the most productive classes I've ever been at. The extensive course was a nice extension to this as well, as its consistency helped me to continuously work on my language skills. During my time, I got to know several teachers at Portuguese Connection. All of them were enthusiastic, friendly and professional. Classes always were very interactive, we discussed a lot of political and social issues, joked and had fun. Next to that, we learned to speak fluently, simply 'by doing it'. At least for me, this extensive vocal training made it easy to also speak Portuguese outside the school. I even developed a certain way of stubbornness, sticking to Portuguese when my counterpart switched to English. Most of my classes I had with Joana. She is an awesome teacher, that truly loves her language and would love to show you all the little characteristics of her mother tongue. What especially impressed me was that she seems to have a natural talent to recognize perfectly how each person learns and perceives, and the manages to choose the corresponding method to facilitate your learning progress. Another point I'd like to mention is the pleasant atmosphere that I didn't know from any other school. They manage to keep a good balance between friendly and professional and do everything to make you feel welcome. Their mascot Maggie (a really friendly dog and the secret governor ;) of the place) contributes to this to her abilities. Lisbon has become my home, and one of my favorite places on earth. I could spend weekends just walking around, visiting markets, find new places, sit in gardens and admire the beautiful facades of the old buildings. It offers a high quality of life, a vivid night life and a broad range of restaurants, cafes and bars. It sometimes reveals magical views and places so hidden but gorgeous you first don't believe they exist. At the moment, I think there is no better place for doing Erasmus. But even if you only come for a few days or a week, I'm sure you will enjoy Lisbon - and you will love Lisbon ;). I participated in the 4 week intensive language learning course and couldn't have had a better experience. The PC crew were super welcoming and accommodating even before we arrived, and were helpful throughout the duration of the course even if it wasn't at all relevant to the school! They helped me with settling into Lisbon life and I am so grateful. All the teachers are clearly highly skilled and all have a passion for teaching and sharing their beautiful language. I've attended classes at Portuguese Connection 3 times now during my visits to Lisbon and I always have a valuable experience. It's located across the street from Principe Real park so it's easy to walk to from the major areas of Lisbon. Plenty of cafes and shops nearby to visit on your break. Learning a new language as an adult can be daunting, especially the European Portuguese accent. The entire team of instructors are professional, warm and friendly, and create a valuable learning experience for adults trying to learn the complexities of European Portuguese. If you take private lessons, the instructor will make sure that your learning style is considered and that you are making progress. They offer a wide variety of class options from intensive group lessons, individualized, weekly reading clubs, and even experiential & cultural learning. This isn't just a place to memorize new words and grammar, but rather an immersive and blended learning experience. You learn so much more when you relate the language back to the culture and history.
