Nice location, but really the service is terrible, horrendous, abominable. Food is ok, they do a nice burger. I fear the location they have makes change unlikely. Staff come and go, but service is really terrible. It’s not a staff issue, it’s a coffee culture issue. Manager, seriously it is time to sort it out!!! Maybe the worst service in Lisbon.

Very pretty, very busy cafe and bistro within the park, with seats both outdoors and indoors - these latter in a building that looks like a greenhouse. Their offer ranges from a simple drink to a full meal, served at any time of the day - you can lunch in the afternoon. The cuisine is good, the menu includes Portuguese specialities as well as international dishes like burgers. Prices are good - please note they only take cash. Service can be uneven depending on how busy the place is - it may take more than you wish to get the waiter's attention. Top location for an outdoors lazy Saturday lunch.

Warum man zur Frühstückszeit eine komplette Speisekarte bekommt, mit einem extra dazugelegten Frühstücksangebot, obwohl aber offenbar ausschließlich die Frühstückskarte gilt, bleibt auch das Geheimnis des Esplanada Cafes.

Dreadful from start to finish. Located in a great spot, this cafe and restaurant fails hugely in its customer service. It is like the staff are too busy to bother serving the customers and see put out when they are requested the menu, the bill and anything else they should be doing naturally as a service individual. Have been here twice now and my experience has been identical both times. Hence they are the 1st and last times.

The location is really nice. In the middle of the park of Principe Real under treas. Just drank some glass there with a few things to eat. Cocktails were medium quality but ok. But the service was super slow and not friendly at all. Yet they seemed friendly with some tables. Maybe it was only bad luck but was not a pleasant experience.

On y passe régulièrement, le cadre est magnifique, soit à l'extérieur sous les arbres séculaires ou à l'intérieur dans cette verrière lumineuse. J'ai un petit faible pour le café baileys. Les prix sont modiques et on peut aussi prendre un encas. La place principe real est une des plus belles de Lisbonne.

Very attentive staff and good food. We came in with our two young kids and they were helpful in finding us a good table. We had the croute de massa (looks like a pizza to me), piri-piri chicken, the peach and ice cream dessert. The surrounding park is a great setting.

Horrible food. Horrible service. Ordered a pasta. Waited over over half and hour. It came and was too salty to eat. They took the dish and wanted to charge the full price. Coffee was horrible, too. Location was nice. There are much better places in Lisbon.

Service was good, but the food was tasteless. I took chicken piri piri which had nothing to do with chicken piri piri. Two chicken breasts cooked in water without salt and pepper and then a tasteless red sauce. Some friends had a better plate of food, but the piri piri was just bad.

We waited the menu : 20 minutes. For a waitress : 15 minutes. For two drinks : 20 minutes. We enjoyed our drinks : 10 minutes. Waited for the bill 15 minutes. And after 10 minutes we decided to go pay at the counter! People there are really friendly but overwhelmed by work & lacking communication....

The food is not bad but the service is awful. They took near one hour to serve us our coffes and had to insist for the bill. Then, they didn’t take credit card. Some of their waiters seemed to be asleep...

Dommage car le cadre est sympa. 1h30 d'attente et toujours pas de plat, la raison : le serveur n'avait jamais donné notre commande en cuisine. Nous qui avions prévu des visites l'après-midi, ah non non, nous avons préféré le passer à attendre sur des chaises des plats qui ne sont jamais arrivés ! Zéro considération, excuses, ou même conscience professionnelle. Enfin bref, perso je n'avais jamais vu quelque chose de semblable en restauration, j'en reste choqué !

Endroit sympa qui nous a donné l'illusion d'un coin de paradis pour notre déjeuner. Résultat, une fois installées à notre table on nous ignore aucun serveur pour prendre nos commandes ou même nous demander de patienter. Lorsque après 20 minutes d'attente on s'impatiente il faut interpeller un serveur pour qu'on prenne ENFIN notre commande. Puis l'attente se prolonge 10, 15, 20, 45 min... Bref après presque DEUX HEURES d'attente au total nous sommes réparties le ventre vide. Si vous vous rendez dans ce restaurant affamé, préparez-vous à mourrir d'inanition avant de voir un serveur. Mon bilan : endroit sympa pour boire un verre sinon service exécrable, désagréable et visblement des cuisiniers très mal organisés!!!

Threatened With Arrest This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. So, here’s the story. We came to the area on this Saturday morning to check out the Farmer’s market, which was dry nice, surrounding the lovely park where this awful restaurant is located. We looked over the menu, decided on the Prato do Dia, found a nice table in the shade, ordered two glasses of wine and two sparkling water, and two Pratos do Dia, which consisted of a chicken breast stuffed with pork, white rice and a green salad. The wines and waters came right away, unlike our meals which took almost 45 minutes to arrive at our table. The small salad of lettuce and tomato looked delicious, the white rice looked like white rice, and the chicken breast looked dry and way over cooked. With some effort I was able to cut into the chicken breast and take a small bite. It was dry as a bone, flavorless and totally overcooked. It had probably been forgotten in their oven for 43 of the 45 minutes we waited for our meals. We immediately informed the waitress about the inedibility of the chicken, said we were not going to either eat it or pay for it, and asked for a check for the wines and sparkling waters. She informed us that we ordered the food and had to pay for the food, period. She did make any offer of another dish, apologize for the chicken being over cook, or anything. We declined to pay and asked to see the manager. A young woman came (not the manager as it turned out) who told us the same thing as the waitress and presented a check for the total meal. We again refused to pay for anything other then the wines and waters. Then a man came, again not the manager, made the same demand, and added that it was against the law in Portugal to refuse to pay a restaurant tab, bad food or not. It turns out that is MOL true, but there is much more to it than that. We then put a 10 Euro note on the tray to cover the wines, waters and a 2 Euro top. BTW, wines and waters are very inexpensive in Portugal. Rather than arguing further, we got up, collected our purchases from the Farmer’s Market and proceed to walk back to our apartment. We had only gone 20 Meters, when we heard someone shouting at us to stop. This time it was the actual manager. I’ll try to cut to the chase at this point. The Manager and another guy followed us for over 1.5 miles as we walked toward our apartment. All the while, the Manager was talking to the Lisbon Police to come and help him collect the tab. We also had several brief conversations with the Manager along the way. He never apologized for the bad food and only repeated his demand for payment. Finally, we reached the park across from Time Out Market. There was a beat cop there, the Manager spoke to him and he came over and stopped us on the sidewalk. The Police Officer spoke no English, and we speak very little Portuguese, so the officer called for English speaking backup. Two more non-English speaking officers joined us and, now a party of seven, we all waited around for over an hour for the English speaking backup to arrive. We were feeling like Bonnie and Clyde at this point. Backup arrived and according to the very polite, higher ranking officer, it will be necessary for the restaurant to file a complaint, pay a fee and appear in court to collect the unpaid portion of the bill. IMO, it is highly unlikely that the restaurant owner will go to that much trouble to collect 22 Euros. There are too many more interesting and laughable details to this afternoon adventure in Lisbon, to tell. What a memorable day in this incredible city. I’ll sum up my review by saying, eat at this restaurant at your own risk!

Service could be better but the spot is great, shaded under the trees and with guys playing Jazz next to the terrace. Ideal spot for lazy afternoon.

The waiters were really rude. It’s a pity that this lovely place is run by such unprofessional and childish workers. You can’t pay with credit card but at the same time you must give them the exact amount, otherways they will punish you like a schoolboy. Ridicuolus!

Great Burgers and beef sandwiches, for a good price too. The staff is really friendly and has good recommendations, location is very relaxed.

Located right in the middle of Príncipe Real park has beautiful surroundings. However it has a very slow service and unfriendly waiters. The sandwiches we ordered were made with old and hard bread (and the waiter got the order wrong and didn't even apologize) and the cappuccinos were mediocre. The orange juice tasted like a mix of fresh and bottled orange juice (and the color was a great sign of this). All in all, not a good choice, at least for an afternoon snack.

Small coffee place with food and drink options in a nice area in the middle of Principe Real garden. It is especially nice to go to when it is nice weather so you can sit in one of their tables outside. Ok prices for a touristic places and adequate menu in terms of food. Burned coffee, undercooked pancakes, and a bad attitude from all servers from start to finish. Oh, and they don't accept credit cards even though it's the year 2017. The cafe has an ideal setting, in the center of the Garden of Principe, a verdant park with a pleasant mix of sun and shade. Other than the location, the place is an all-around failure. This is the second time I came. Both experiences were below average, this last time was awful. The coffee is one of the worst I've ever tasted. The pancakes still had uncooked white batter in the center, and the fresh fruit was all bitter. The blueberries were almost rotten. We didn't drink the coffee because it was undrinkable - burned beyond taste. Like, really burned. I don't even know how one can burn cappuccino. When we asked to remove the coffee from the check - the head server just shook her head and walked away. They didn't remove it. I asked our server. He said okay, then came back 5 mins later and said I should speak to the head server. I did. She reprinted the bill with the coffee still on it. I said I didn't want the coffee. She said it was burned because I didn't drink it immediately. I said "it's burned and undrinkable, not cold." She reprinted it without the coffee. When a restaurant has bad food and coffee but a good location they should at least treat their customers with some respect. To top it all off - they don't accept credit cards. I mean, no.

Nice terrace in park. However, both of cappuccino my husband and I ordered were burnt, really bad taste. We asked them if it is possible not to pay for these two coffee and explained why to the waitress who in charge of cashier. She gave really bad attitude and said "the coffee is burnt because you let coffee stay there for over 5 mins and didn't drink it." Excuse me? Coffee is burnt because we didn't drink it? Not to say I tasted the coffee in one min after they served us, and my husband were walking outside to swing & put our 5 month old son into sleep. That was the worst experience I have ever had in Lisbon.
