If there were 10 stars we would rate this a 10/10. My husband and I got extremely lucky to have had this tour by ourselves (wooo private!). Miguel was our"guide" but quickly became our friend. This experience was everything we hoped it would be and more. Miguel knew soooo much about the city it was truly amazing. What we loved most was the genuine passion for bringing Lisbon to life by Miguel. Miguel was authentic and apologetically himself. Miguel gave us so many great tips on where to eat, where the locals would be, where the party in the Alfama would be etc. (I could go on and on about all of the tips). When we were driving people were stopping to speak with Miguel - he was a local celebrity! We took his advice and spent the evening in LX where he told us would be a market and we were blown away! Our only regret was A) not visiting the office to say hi while we were in LX and not booking other experiences with this group of amazing people. We are already planning our next trip back to Portugal and We Hate Tourism is TOP PRIORITY to incorporate. We LOVE Lisbon and we learned so much! As a person who works in tourism I do not take tours! However; I’m so happy I did. I researched voraciously and found these tours. Our guide Marcos, was fun, knowledgeable, and kept the group laughing! The food at the restaurant was delicious and we tried many things! As a food tour operator I’m quite picky about food quality and this was perfect! The drive after the tour at night highlighted the city and there were touches that you’ll just have to take the tour to find out! Enjoy. I did.

Wir haben den X-DAY TRIP nach Sintra, Cascais, usw. gebucht und wurden nicht enttäuscht! Ein paar Tage davor haben wir noch eine Info erhalten, dass wir eine halbe Stunde früher starten, um den Verkehr etwas zu umgehen. Jeder besuchte Spot war für sich ein Highlight und auch das Essen in einem Restaurant, dass eher nur von Einheimischen besucht wird, war sehr autentisch. Unser Reiseleiter Miguel (the worst driver ever ;-)) hat uns sehr viel zur Geschichte und Kultur Portugals erzählt und war immer zu einem Spaß aufgelegt. Englisch sollte man auf jeden Fall halbwegs können. Alles in allem ein sehr entspannter und lustiger Tag, und wir konnten super Fotos machen.

This tour is pretending to be something that is not, tourist guide (better say driver) takes you to few places and leave you there some certain time to explore it yourself. Their knowledge of Portugal history is poor, even for those few places (castel, town of Sintra) they have only limited information. So if you want someone to transfer you / drive you around with the van to those places than is ok but for 57 EUR one would expect much more.
Reply on reply: I do not know what are you talking about; I was on on your tour last Monday, Sofia was the driver, I can send you the ticket. Rather unusual way of taking criticsm from your side; instead trying to improve. Best regards.

Just got back from an AMAZING small group tour, Lisbon -X- Day trip Sintra, Cascais and more.. excursion with We Hate Tourism Tours.....did I say it was AMAZING!
Marco's was a great tour guide: funny, knowledgeable, invested in his group. We had lots of laughs and wine. There were 7 in our group, including my sister, and dear friend....the three of us from USA! I highly recommend this AMAZING tour.....fun group.....crazy guide.

Please don’t overlook this gem in Lisbon! Our guide, Miguel, was a local with a wealth of knowledge and some serious driving skills. The tour was fabulous and I enjoyed the fact that there were only 7 in our group so everyone could hear our guide. There were some great surprises to enjoy in this city. So, don’t climb on or hop off, take this tour instead.

We toured both Lisbon, Sintra and the coast like between the two over the course of a day and had an absolute blast doing so. Ana was a fantastic host and really impressed us with her knowledge, humor and parking ability. I would recommend this without a doubt.

My husband, two teens and I did the dinner tour and city tour in Porto and the Sintra tour and city tour in Lisbon. All the tours with this company were amazing. This was our first time in Portugal and we usually don’t work with tour companies but WHTT’s philosophy was very appealing to us.
What sets WHTT apart is the guides. They are a group of very smart and socially aware guys.
Our favorite guide in Lisbon was Pedro. It was a pleasure to learn about Portugal from him. Don’t follow the guides with the little flags that just recite a list of dates. Hire these guys instead. You will love them.

We visited Lisbon for one day as part of a cruise, and booked the “Pirates of the Cruise Ships” tour, where they pick you up and drop you off at the cruise terminal. What a great decision that was! We saw lots of different aspects of Lisbon and its surrounding towns and scenery, as well as having a great lunch with plenty of wine. And all the time we were engaged in lively conversation with our guide – not just the standard tour guide lecture, but getting real insight into Lisbon life and Portugal as a whole. A really excellent day.

We booked the X-Day tour to Sintra and Cascais. Marcos was our guide and he was so friendly and enthusiastic. The sights that Marcos took us to were incredible.
We loved our day so much, we went home to book the Dinner and Belém tour for another day on our trip. We were thrilled that Marcos was our guide again, and he really made the night fantastic, showing us the city in such a fun and charismatic way.
Highly recommend!

We joined the "DINNER WITH US AND BELÉM" in Lisbon. Communication and Pick-Up where easy.
With a small group we drove around in Lisbon and went to a restaurant outside of the city - only being visited by locals. The foot was amazing with great variety - it felt like going out with some friends. We learned a lot about food in Portugal and (what is most important) had a lot of fun.
Afterwards we went to nice drive in Lisbon, getting some more food and visiting places at night you would normally not have in your mind - that gave a surprising perspective to this city. This trip was a highlight during our stay in Lisbon.

My family of five had two great private tours with them. Marta and Luis were fantastic. Luis took us to Fatima, Nazare, and Obidos. We really had a great day. It was just before Christmas on a Sunday but Luis didn't miss a beat and he was so knowledgeable about the sites. We thoroughly enjoyed. Marta was also just great. My girls and I had a lovely day touring setubal and arribida. She was so interesting to listen too. Very flexible in her approach . I really enjoyed both days and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. Hope to see you next time.

Great folks, great experience! Me, my son and my girlfriend got the chance to see a really cool place with some great food we would never have found without WHTT - our guides were really great and we spent a truely worthwhile afternoon with them - after this experience I know that I will definitely return to Lisbon - and to We Hate Tourism Tours - thanks guys and keep up the good work! My friend and I took a weekend trip to Lisbon from Madrid, where we’re studying abroad, and this tour was recommend to us. We could not have made a better decision! We enjoyed every minute of it, from the personalized lunch to the other people on our tour to learning so much about the history of Portugal. When I read on their website: “We are urban diplomats of all backgrounds who grew up here in Lisbon and use local knowleadge to properly introduce visitors to the city we love.”, I hoped to get a tour bypassing the normal touristy stuff, see some places which are not on a standard tour and get some background information.
But the guide on our “X Day Sintra Cascais” Tour was just driving us to the usual touristy places (where we met the other normal tourist tours). On each stop our guide (or should I better say: driver) said, that we we’ll meet at the van after X minutes and that we can now explore the place on our own. So unfortunately there was no “proper introduction with local knowledge” from the guide.
So after reading the “About Us” page on their website - where you can read about “unofficial Ambassadors” (of Lisbon and Portugal) and “continuous exchange and cultural enrichment” - I expected a lot more. But unfortunately our tour was just a standard tourist tour where the guide was more or less a driver bringing us to the standard touristy places.

Incredible tour with Manual, our guide. My wife and i took a Tour to sintra and cascais, and it couldn't have been better.
Manual was funny, insightful, and informative. Tons of interesting background on the Lisbon reigon and Portugal in general. I'm a keen surfer so manual told me all about the surf history in Portugal and pointed out some of the popular spots. Tour included a great lunch, some vinho Verde, pastries, and some ginja.
Overall we we're very happy with our tour and would highly suggest to anyone looking for a tour with a little bit of everything .

BEST TOUR I DIDN'T GET TO TAKE - BUT WILL!!!!
This tour group is simply the best. From their clever and friendly website to the quality of their representatives who are very knowledgeable, friendly, and dependable..
They were also empathetic when we had to cancel the tour because of COVID-19. We received our refund immediately.
We have booked another cruise for April, 2021 which goes to LIsbon and have already gotten 5 other passengers to join us. We're praying that everyone will stay healthy and safe and we'll be able to finally get to go on the Pirate Of The Cruise Ship Tour with the best tour group!!! So, if you are going to Lisbon, don't hesitate to book with this group and enjoy a memorable day in Lisbon!!!!

I had a tour with this company in Lisbon in summer of 2019. It was SUCH a wonderful experience!! Our tour guide was so friendly and accommodating, and shared so much wonderful insight as we drove around to different sites! She was very patient and kind, and it really felt like we were all a group of friends, just hanging out for the day! Would HIGHLY recommend this company for your next tour in Lisbon!!

Just as the name says. They are everything but touristy. I took a tour of Sintra and nearby places with them. The group was small, the gentleman driving us around was amazing, lot of fun and gave information in a very fun manner. It was worth every penny (having that said, it wasn't expensive at all). I will be going to Lisbon again very soon and would meet these guys again... More power to you guys... I really enjoyed myself.

While in Portugal we went on two separate tours with WHTT -- one to Sintra/Cascais and another in Porto. Both were a blast. Our guides were funny and insightful, but also allowed us to experience each stop in our own way. We'll be coming back as soon as it's safe to do so, and we'll definitely be booking with WHTT again.

My partner and I went on two tours with them last summer (the Porto tour and the Sintra trip). It was a great way to explore both places through the friendly and informative guide and delicious food along the way! It provided a great experience ofthe city that we would not haven got to experience otherwise.

We planned a costum made bachelor party in Porto in March.
From the first email on Gonzi treated me like a friend who comes to visit his city and not like a tourist.
We were all looking forward to go but due to the covid situation we had to cancel. They are as professional as friendly because we got the refund immediately.

After discovering We Hate Tourism Tours (WHTT) through a Google search a week before our departure for a family vacation in Lisbon, being intrigued by their website and impressed with the online reviews, we booked both the Dinner with Us evening and the X Day Trip/Sintra and Cascais. A great decision on our part as both experiences were fantastic.
I must admit to having some trepidation prior to the Dinner with Us experience on our second night in Lisbon. We were travelling as a family (me, my wife and two adult children) and the thought of having dinner with a complete stranger gave me pause. However, we had the good fortune of having Manuel (Mannu) as our WHTT dinner host, and the evening could not have been more enjoyable. Any qualms we had about dinner with a stranger quickly dissipated within minutes of meeting Mannu. He was funny, friendly, informative, interesting, witty and just an all-round wonderful host/guide/person. The evening itinerary was perfect. Dinner was at an authentic Portuguese restaurant well off the beaten path where we enjoyed local cuisine washed down with lots of wine and punctuated with great conversation and informative anecdotes from Mannu. Following dinner we enjoyed a tour of Lisbon sights (including a stop for custard tarts at the infamous Pasteis de Belem which is much more enjoyable sans the daytime lineups) and a drink of port whilst enjoying a hilltop view of Lisbon. The evening flew by and we were sorry it had to come to an end but also delighted to discover that Mannu would also be our guide for the Sintra/Cascais excursion the next morning (although worried that Mannu may have had enough of us by then :)).
The Sintra/Cascais tour was excellent. We saw so many wonderful sights all explained/introduced in a humorous but informative manner by Mannu. We walked around Sintra, enjoyed a delightful lunch in a small (but packed) restaurant, a tour of Monserrate Palace and its spectacular grounds, the magnificent landscape of Cabo da Roca (the western most point in Europe) and visited Cascais on our way back to Lisbon (where we enjoyed a drink of port to celebrate the end of a wonderful day with Mannu and our fellow guests).
Any company can drive you around and show you the sites. What sets WHTT apart in my view is the quality of the people. Obviously, as I have noted above, Mannu was a huge reason we enjoyed both of our WHTT excursions so much. But everybody with whom we interacted at WHTT was delightful.
On our third day in Lisbon, we went to the Time Out Market for brunch and decided to visit the LX Factory, an eclectic mix of shops, bars and restaurants where WHTT's offices are located. We visited the WHTT office to buy a t-shirt (or more) and met the delightful Catarina who could not have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. We ended up buying t-shirts and some art as mementoes of a wonderful experience and a highlight of our vacation.
I must say that our experience with WHTT was one of (if not the) best we have ever had with an organized tour company and we would not hesitate to recommend the company to anybody visiting Portugal.

This tour hit the right spot with myself and my husband, we did not want to be on a big bus with crowds of people. We were extra lucky that we were the only 2 on the tour that day and our guide spoiled us, and went completely out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our day. He was full of interesting facts and a pleasure to be in his company. Highly recommend this tour, i felt i knew lisbon after the day.

Wir haben die Tour "City Introduction" mit Miguel unternommen und es hat uns einen riesengroßen Spaß gemacht, mit ihm durch Lissabon zu düsen und auch mal die nicht so bekannten Seiten der Stadt zu entdecken. Wer mal eine unkonventionelle Stadttour machen möchte, sollte bei we hate tourism buchen - und keine Angst: die sind trotz des Namens ganz lieb . Muito obrigado, Miguel, até breve!!!

We spent two days with these guys— first the Douro Valley with Z ( his name) and another day touring Porto with Nelson— what a wonderful experience! We went & ate at places ordinary tourists would never find. They were both so pleasant & thoughtful— you felt like you were hanging out with friends who were showing off their homes. Highest recommendation!

Miguel and our day in Sintra was amazing. Miguel is an extremely knowledgeable guide - about the history, culture and geography of all we saw from Lisbon to Sintra! We had the right amount of time at every stop and the lunch included was fabulous. We would strongly recommend WHTT and Miguel to anyone.

First time in Lisboa Portugal and I have the time of my life my tour guides Marta and Nunno were knowledgeable professional, courteous, fun relaxed, and super friendly. Ils sont juste parfaits si vous aimez les tours en petits groupes, un guide qui ne récite pas des dates à n’en plus finir et parle plutôt des gens, de la ville en général et bien sûr, un peu d’histOire.
J’ai fait des tours avec WHTT à Porto et Lisbonne (Sintra et Cascais) et dans les deux cas, complètement enchantée par le vibe et l’experience. Pour Sintra, Peña n’est pas visité car trop crowdé. On les adore.

My girlfriend and I availed ourselves of this on our last day in Lisbon and had a total blast. Our driver (Miguel) was a riot and definitely kept us entertained. We're not really tour group people, so we were hesitant to embark on it in the first place, but they kept the group small (I think there were 8 of us total) and it ended up being a great little chance to see Lisbon and some of the surrounding areas from a local's point of view. Apparently, everything comes from Portugal. : ) Seriously though, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants the benefits of a tour (i.e., a decision-making free day) without the lameness that usually accompanies tours (i.e., feeling like cattle being shuttled around).

When a enterprise says this "Words like local, authentic, or typical are everywhere but locals dont exist anymore in the city center. Airbnb, and other big companies are changing the face of our cities, turning them into the samo and giving us a polished version of something they never were. Travel responsible and be smart."
And than ask people to continue visit, its the type of someone that cant be trusted

Two days, two tours! First the intro to Lisbon with Mimi. Her knowledge of Lisbon she shared with us had a clarity and understanding that included past, present and future. She indulged us with incredible tastes and sights. Giving us glimpses of the glorious & not so glorious. Next day, the affable Marcos took us the Sintra & Cascais, some spots in between. Again food and wine flowed accompanied by stories with the flair of an artist! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loved my tour of Sintra and beyond. Our guide was so knowledgeable, friendly and seemed to take a genuine interest in everyone in our group. As a solo traveller I appreciated that as sometimes you can felt a bit left out on group tours. I loved how we had time to explore on our own at each location, lunch was fantastic and something I wouldn't have experienced on my own. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and in fact would encourage people to avail of their tours if visiting Lisbon. Excellent company and very resonably priced.

My husband and I used We Hate Tourism a few years ago in Lisbon so we knew exactly who to contact when traveling to Porto/Douro. Nelson, our guide, was amazing! It was great to have a driver who was able to share so much about Portuguese history and culture, and to show us the best the city has to offer. This was such a great experience. This collective organizes down-to-earth, personable and smart tours. I walked into their office space at LX factory in Lisbon and they were so friendly and relaxed. I figured out a few options and they were very accommodating when I had to make a switch. I did the Intro to Porto tour (because I found them too late into my time in Lisbon) and loved the honest and engaging tour they had put together. I felt our guide was adapting to our interests as we went along. I respect the energy of tour guides in general, but I thought the difference here was that I got a more intimate, sarcastic (which I love), and off the grid version of Porto. My guide was a great storyteller, and someone who clearly loved the good and the ugly of his city. Highly recommended.

Wir wollten an meinem Geburtstag etwas Besonderes machen und haben deshalb das Dinner gebucht. Nach einer wilden Fahrt mit Marcos durch Lissabon, wir waren an diesem Abend die einzigen Gäste, fanden wir uns in einem ursprünglichen portugiesischem Restaurant wieder, in das bestimmt selten ein Tourist den Fuß setzt. I'm not much for organized tours and large crowds, but I like to learn about the cities I visit. We really hit the jackpot with Bruno (on a Porto evening tour). His personality, his knowledge, and his energy really made our evening. We ended up in a small fishing town in Vila Nova de Gaia - it was just perfect. My friend and I booked We Hate Tourism's Dinner Tour on a lark. It was one of our last nights in Lisbon, and we had covered a lot of ground already. Marcos, our tour leader, went above and beyond to give us a glimpse and taste of Lisbon that we couldn't have found on our own. He was incredibly informative and entertaining and we kept wishing that we had met him sooner in our travels. The whole experience felt like one of those fortuitous encounters where you make friends with a cool local who then shows you around his beloved city. Can't recommend enough!!

Let me start by saying that my husband and I are definitely not tour group kind of people…we like privacy and setting our own schedule...But we didn’t have much time in Lisbon and really wanted to make the most of it in the easiest way possible. After reading the website we thought we would really dig the vibe of We Hate Tourism Tours and decided to book the Dinner and Night tour for the first night we arrived. It was EPIC! We totally bonded with Silvia, (the other guest on our tour who was from Chicago) and especially with Marcos our warm, knowledgeable and hilarious guide. The four of us had a fabulous dinner at a terrific little place we never would have discovered on our own, then Marcos drove us all around the sparkling city, regaling us with amazing stories. He gave us our first taste of ginjinha and pasteis de nata and we were having so much fun together that the tour that was supposed to end at nine ended up going on till after midnight! It was, hands down, one of the best nights of my life. We booked two more tours with We Hate Tourism Tours (day trip to Sintra and Cascais and the King of the Hills). I would highly recommend you find time to take as many of their tours as you possibly can. Our other guides were terrific too, all very different, but each provided an incredible, personalized experience showcasing different aspects of beautiful Lisboa - a city they each obviously love deeply. I will never forget the pride and delight they all radiated while sharing their best secret spots and all the well travelled vistas with us. These folks really know their city and so many friendly people all over town. The happy greetings, waves and hugs they receive in every neighborhood will make you feel like a privileged insider. These are genuinely fantastic people! Ten stars wouldn’t even be enough for our vivid and authentic experiences with them!
(Epilogue: Since our Lisbon trip, Silvia and Marcos have become two of our closest friends. We’ve shared several trips with Silvia back in the US and even got Marcos to come stay with us in Nashville and travel down to New Orleans to meet up with Silvia for another EPIC night! I think dear Marcos carries the infectious spirit of a life well-lived wherever he goes. If you are lucky enough to spend some time basking in his intense joie de vivre you will never forget it. We feel very grateful and transformed by that first magical night in Lisboa —hopefully the first of many nights to come with our new-found life-long friends.)

Experience a “Porto Dinner and Night out Tour” with Bruno...You will not go wrong! He has a captivating fun energy and was extremely knowledgable about Porto, oh and you will never find someone who can park a mini van in the smallest of spaces quite as well as him!! He took us to a popular local fish restaurant for a dinner that I will never forget! Real deal Portuguese food! Amazing experience in my short Porto stay! At the last minute (ok, minutes) one morning at breakfast, we were looking at options for the day and came upon the We Hate Tourism Tours website. The site and tours looked great; one of the reason everything was so intriguing was the difference from the other run-of-the-mill tours and canned site set up. The only available tour that day (again, we were looking during breakfast) was lunch with a local. We signed up and met our host and a group of great people in a really cool revitalized mill area on the waterfront. This area was teaming with life and had very interesting shops, studios, and places to eat. Our guide met us with drinks and we got a quick overview of our upcoming experience while he and we got to know one another. We then strolled into the mill’s former cafeteria for our meal. The cafeteria had been remodeled into a very industrial restaurant with great decor. We sat at a round table for 8, were served very tasty local food and wine, and had a long and enjoyable lunch talking with our guide about local history, politics, economy and cultural issues. It was extremely interesting and fun. We then toured part of the mill area shops and went into the We Hate Tourism office for further history and recommendations for things to do ... oh, and some more wine. The whole experience was awesome. We highly recommend this tour as well as any others provided by We Hate Tourism Tours.

The best way to discover Lisbon is through these guys. Really recommended. Over the years we booked several trips with them and they never disappointed us. We discovered the center of Lisbon and the places surrounding the city going as far as the Cabo da Roca lighthouse. Most memorable was the town of Sintra with the quinta da regaleira park, the palaces and the famous House Of Port. We booked several private trips, making them real personal experiences. If we wanted to stay longer somewhere? No problem! Over the years Marcos has become like a personal driver and we always ask if he's available. But rest asure, the whole company spirit is just great so you can't go wrong with Miguel, Ana or any of the other drivers. Just do it! You will have fun!

Took the Sintra/Cascais tour with Marcos on Sunday 16/6 and tbh we were a little disappointed. It was more of a hop on hop off bus than an actual tour as we were simply dropped from place to place and explored on our own. I would have really liked the tour to include quinta de regaleira, but I guess that is my personal preference. The gardens we visited in sintra were great but the palace didn't really compare to the ones that many people visit in nearby Spain. Could probably cut out one of the 4 stops to give a little more time at each. Also, I get that lunch was basic to keep prices down but we would have liked something a little better than a roll with chorizo and cheap cask wine. Even a basic salad on the side or or something else would make a big difference. Marcos was a friendly guide and good company for the day.

Die etwas andere Tour. Wir haben schon zum zweiten mal die "Dinner with us and Belem" Tour gemacht und was soll ich sagen ich würde sie wieder buchen. Kurz gesagt 8 Personen plus Begleiter gehen Abendessen und anschließend gehts raus nach Belem zu Kaffee und Portwein. Sehr gutes Essen und Trinken, nette Gespräche mit Reisenden aus aller Welt und Nachts in Belem, da ist fast kein Tourist mehr da. Muito obrigado!

WHTT are a great collective of knowledgable and passionate individuals who love to share the great city of Lisbon with anyone who asks! I did the dinner tour with Marcos who was so passionate and chatty - made me feel right at home, as did the guys in the office! Wir hatten die Tour “Lisbon City Introduction“ gebucht. Gemeinsam mit João und drei netten weiteren Tourgästen aus den USA verbrachten wir schöne Stunden in Lissabon. Viele schöne Plätze besucht und viele interessante Informationen, außerhalb der üblichen Daten, erhalten. Für uns war der Lunch eines der Highlights der Tour. Super gemütlich mitten auf einem netten kleinen Platz im Schatten eines Baumes genossen wir Bifanas, grünen Wein und Orangensaft. Und João war ein perfekter Gastgeber und “Kellner“.

We took two tours with "We Hate Tourism" at the end of Jan - early Feb: they couldn't have been better. The tours are focused less on the "face" of the city (statues, dates, etc) and more on the "soul" of the place. Miguel took us all over Lisbon and across the river to Almada. We had a great and memorable lunch at a local favorite sandwich shop and used a post box as a table top. Two days later we went back for the Sintra tour this time with Joao and Julia. We even got an extra that satisfied our 'geography' craving - Cabo Da Roca - on the Atlantic Coast and at one time, "the edge of the world". Try these folks, you won't be disappointed.

Our tour "X-DAY TRIP to SINTRA, CASCAIS and more" with Gonçy could not have been better. We visited many beautiful places like Sintra, Cap da Roca and Cascais and could also experience the local food at lunch which was simply delicious. The King of the Hills Tour was super fun! Toby was a great driver & guide. Even a little mix-up with the start time all was fixed and off we went to explore the hills of Lisbon. We saw so much of the city in this cool old jeep. We even drove up into a park and to this old abandoned building where we had views over the whole area. We tasted yummy custard pastries and had a nice drink. Toby shared stories and history during the whole tour. This was the best way to see the city quickly without being exhausted when we went to the airport to leave that afternoon. Thank you !

Unconventional, Fun and Real. We were brought a bit more into Lisbon's soul by being taken out of our tourism bubble and into day to day Lisbon. We did drive by the typical must-see spots that were easily accessible from our AirBnb but our tour was focused on parts of Lisbon that I would never have discovered. I want to go back to Lisbon just to try some of their other tours because they don't have just one type.

Amazing experience! We took surfing tour, our guide took to the south side of Lisbon, caparica. Very laid back place with prestine and empty beaches! It was really cool to be and feel like local. Our guide was really good, polite, friendly, talkative and informative and was easy going. It felt like we were visiting old friend. Wenn man seine Zeit in Lissabon verbringt, ist diese Tour perfekt, um noch etwas mehr von Portugal zu sehen. Auch das Mittagessen in einem kleinen Lokal, abseits der Touristenströme war super. An very fun, irreverent, but still quite informative tour of Lisbon for anyone wary of getting into a marked van or being led by someone holding a flag/balloon, etc. Miguel took us all over the city, providing a mix of history and color commentary that kept things engaging and interesting while still respecting that yes, we're hoping to get some "regular" photos as well. It's a great way to get an initial sense of the city while talking to someone local. Definitely recommend for Lisbon newcomers!

First Time in Lisbon? Look no further. Even if you've visited this magical place in the past, the gang at We Hate Tourism are absolutely the greatest at showing you the best of the city and its environs! Friendly, energetic, a bit irreverent, safe, fun, affordable.....you name it, the adjectives keep coming.
On two separate cruise ship stops in Lisbon 30 months apart we have booked their services. Two completely different experiences, both of which were very memorable (obrigado, Gonzy!). Half the cost and twice the fun of so-called cruise ship tours with the added benefit of enjoying a six or seven passenger van instead of sharing a bus with 50+ "regular" tourists.
You won't regret it.

My friend and I did the 'Dine with us or Die' tour and I cannot recommend this company enough!! The tour itself was full of delicious food and also a small walking tour after desert which was a lovely surprise! Every staff member was beyond nice and so helpful. This company is small but I expect it to grow so quickly with it's phenomenal services. Seriously, forget about the big tourism company's, these guys are it.

We booked this tour not really sure what to expect. The group was a perfect size. We all quickly became conversational and in a short time we were learning not only a huge amount about Lisbon but also a lot about the different countries we all came from. Joâo was/is a fantastic guide who showed us some absolutely BEAUTIFUL parts of the city that we would have definitely overlooked if we were wandering about on our own. We learned about some of Lisbon's social programs and street artists. We sampled some very tasty pastries and sandwiches. We toured the highest hills and the narrowest backstreets. All of it was absolutely wonderful. We can't recommend this enough! If you want a very customizable tour where you can see everything Lisbon has to offer; give We Hate Tourism tours a go.

Such a great company! I originally booked their King of the Hills tour and loved it so much that I booked another while I was traveling. Both guides were gems and they had so much insider knowledge while making the experience fun. Beyond that they showed me on both trips locations/restaurants/sites that I never would have found if I'd been on my own. Had an absolutely fantastic time with We Hate Tourism. I've traveled around the world and am pretty skeptical of organized tours, but We Hate Tourism changed my perspective! It turned out that it was just my friend and I who had scheduled an early Sunday morning tour (go figure), so we had a private tour with our amazing driver. He took us all around the seven hills (King of the Hills tour), and we were treated to interesting facts about Lisbon, amazing views of the city, some incredible pastries from Manteigaria, and some Portuguese liqueur. Totally worth the money, because you get to see the city from a local's point of view. Highly, highly recommend!

Believe the hype. This tour is fantastic.
Two two buses take your group to all the major spots and you get ample time to see everything. Joao and Nuno know the spots inside out and their knowledge of Portugal, its history and politics is brilliant. Great entertainers and guides all round.
The meal is a great way to chat with your group and it helps for afterwards when you exploring together.
Nuno is a gentleman, who went above and beyond with his tour, as well as answering almost every question that came his way. These guys love Portugal and it shows. A great, unique tour. Five stars isn't enough.

Wir hatten eine tolle Tour mit Pedro abseits der normalen Stadtbesichtigungen. Unser Mittagessen mit Bifana und Vino Verde am Straßenrand war eine sehr sympathische Erfahrung. Auch seine Empfehlungen (Seafood Restaurant und Rooftop Bar) haben wir am gleichen Abend ausprobiert und waren begeistert. We had such a great day with Gonzie from We Hate Tourism Tours. He meet our group of 5 as we came off the ship and we immediately became friends with this funny and generous young man. He scooted us through the windy streets of Lisbon and then out to his ‘special look out’ place that normal ‘tourists’ don’t visit. We then headed off to Sintra where he gave us some time on our own to wander the streets and grab a coffee before he took us to another of his ‘special not touristy places’ were we enjoyed a casual picnic of some lovely homely food. Then off to the see the ‘end of the world’ before heading back along the coast road with a short stop at Cascais and then on towards Lisbon. One of our group had a special request to visit one of the ‘touristy stops’ which was also provided for us.
We travelled and saw quite a lot of country on our day stop in Lisbon and really did finish the tour thinking that we had spent the day with a great friend or family member. Gonzie loves his town and shares this love and his knowledge of the area with you. I hadn’t ever thought of Lisbon as being on my wish list before but after the day spent with Gonzie, I would love to go back and see more of his wonderful city.

I did the "lunch in our home" tour with João. I never do tours and I'm so glad I chose to do this one. He truly made me feel at home in Portugal and was the perfect way to start my trip to Lisbon. My daughters and I took this tour on May 11, 2017 and it was fabulous. Our guide drove us around Sintra, Cascai Beach and the outskirts of Lisbon. We stopped for a picnic lunch and got to see the beautiful countryside. Our tour guide, Jerome, was fun and informative. I hate tourism tours which is why I LOVED " I Hate Tourism Tours"!! My day trip out to Sintra from Lisbon was awesome in every way. Our guide was friendly and funny and everything and he answered all of our questions. We went to a few cool, insider places and had some wonderful wine and snacks. Last summer, I stayed in Lisbon for a week and booked multiple tours with WHTT. I think the standouts were the day trip to Cascais and Sintra, and The King of The Hills Tour. Their website is easy to navigate and gives great and accurate descriptions of the tours. Their tours are small and leave you feeling like a local. I highly recommend their tours.

Das zweite Mal in Lissabon, das zweite Mal WHTT. Wir waren beim ersten Mal schon begeistert ("King of the hills") und haben nun "Dinner with us" mitgemacht. Beide Trips waren super. Der "King" ist gut für den Überblick (immer schön festhalten), das "Dinner" einfach eine runde Sache mit netten Leuten zum Abschluß (oder Start oder mittendrin...).

Sehr empfehlenswert! Wer Lissabon mal außerhalb von den ganzen Touristenströmen erleben möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Die Touren ( wir hatten 2 gemacht) sind sehr individuell, man bekommt zum Teil Kontakt mit Einheimischen und muss nicht in großen Menschengruppen in Bussen reisen. Uns hat es sehr gefallen und wir haben sehr schöne Erinnerungen daran. Special greetings to Joao (hope I spelled your name correctly), it was a great tour!

We (my husband and I) don't do tours! But this one was recommended by our grandson. So we signed up and went on the day trip to Sintra. This is, in a word, FANTASTIC! You will. It be disappointed. The guides are fun, well informed and a pleasure.

We had a great time on exercursions with We Hate Tourism tours! My husband and I did the Cascais/Sintra tour and the King of the Hills tour. Both were alot of fun. It was an authentic experience compared to most tours, which can feel pretty generic. It's like having a friend take you around versus a stuffy tour guide. If you want a lot of detailed, historical information, you may want to book elsewhere. If you're into to interacting with interesting people, learning the local perspectives, and having a genuinely fun time, this is your company!

We booked 2 tours with WHTT prior to our arrival in Lisbon. On our first full day in Lisbon we took the X-Day trip to Sintra & Caiscais with Marcos, and the Lisbon City Tour with Miguel the following day. There were 8 of us total on the tour both days, and everyone was on time throughout the day.
On our X-Day Tour, Marcos was funny and informative as he shared bits of Lisbon's history. He took us to Sintra, Monserrate National Park & Palace (TIP: Wear comfortable closed shoes as the paths are uneven), Cabo da Roca, Praia do Guincho, and Cascais. For lunch, we sat a nearby picnic table outside the Monserrate park gates to eat our yummy Portuguese foods - cheese, bread, chorizo, sardines, grapes, etc. all served with local Portuguese wine. On our way back to Lisbon we drove along the coastline passing through Estoril and the Casino that inspired the James Bond story of Casino Royale.
Our Lisbon City Tour with Miguel was an equally fun day. We got to go a bit outside the city proper and crossed the 25 April bridge to visit the Cristo Rei monument which offered a different view of the city. We also saw parts of the city we would not have otherwise visited/seen, such as the Parque das Nações, Vasco da Gama bridge, Estrela Basilica. At the end of the day, Miguel presented a bottle of homemade Ginjinha liquor and at our drop-off ran off to buy fresh pasteis de nata sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. It was our first taste of the local pastry and we were hooked!
I really enjoyed all the free time we had to explore the sights without being herded around in a large group. I can't recommend this company enough. They kicked off our stay in Lisbon with a bang.

We were lucky to book the Pirates of the Cruise Ships trip when we had a two days visit to Lisbon whilst on a cruise. I say we were lucky because we could have been on a coach with fifty other people seeing the usual tourist places. As it was my wife and I, two other adults and three year old had the mini bus to ourselves. Rodrigo, our driver took us to places in Lisbon the average tourist wouldn't get to see. We drove down some really narrow streets and visited some interesting areas of the city. As Rodrigo said " You can visit the most popular and busy sites when you visit Lisbon again".
Next we stopped at a viewpoint looking over Sintra, a lovely town. We were then taken to a roadside cafe for some local food and locally produced wine. After spending around an ninety minutes in Sintra we visited the Cork Monastery. The entrance price was extra. Rodrigo returned to Lisbon via the popular resort of Cascais.
Rodrigo was very informative and knowledgeable. I must add his English was excellent. We feel we got to know a lot more about the real Lisbon and its people. The trip lasted eight hours and we finished off being offered a glass of cherry liqueur which had been made by one of the driver's mothers. Delicious!
This was definitely a very interesting and different way of seeing a city. We will definitely return to Lisbon and might even try one of the other We Hate Tourism Tours trips. We thought it was really good value.

X-Day Trip / Sintra Cascais and more
The tour was excellent. Just like the name states, if you are tired of the large groups, playing follow the leader in a huge group, or getting in a line with hundreds of tourists, then this is the tour for you. Our guide was Gondo and he was fun, friendly and very informative. Our group was 8 and we travelled in a comfortable van. Gondo kept the tour relaxing and paced it according to our needs, abilities and interests. Because of our small group size he was able to park very close to all our major sites. Time was also built in for free time and wandering. Quinta da Regaleira was amazing and well worth seeing. Lunch was a pleasant surprise. We stopped at a large roadside market in the countryside. Gondo let us visit the stalls while he purchased a variety of breads, cheese, fruits, wine...and so much more for our lunch! Again, not a tourist restaurant. We had great fun this day with our leader and group and would highly recommend everyone to try it.

Took the Sintra/Caiscais day tour and so glad we did. Had an absolutely fab time. Rodrigues (hope I spelt it right?!?) is a great tour guide - very friendly and genuine. He gave us a great insight into Portugal and it's people. My highlight was getting to visit a lighthouse (not on the tour itinerary but we got an opportunity on the day & the tour was flexible enough so we could visit). Visited his favourite beach but can tell you were it is, you'll have to book the tour! Great lunch option which we never would have found. All I can say is.... keep up the good work. Pat & Connie

Took the X-Day trip to Sintra and Cascais with Rodrigo and 5 other guests was so great to have our own private tour guide.. He was the perfect guide took us into places off the beaten track.. He even picked us Medronho fruits which they make a liquor from. It was apparent how much he knew and loved his country.. The lunch of authentic Portuguese treats was a nice little stop in between places..It was a special day and we ended on a hill looking over the city of Lisbon with a promise to return.. Thank you it was a delight!!

We did the tour to Sintra and Cascais with Rodrigo and it was an amazing day. Very informative and a great experience. Rodrigo was a competent and funny guy who can answer all your questions about Portugal, but with whom you can also have one or three craft beers and talk about football :)

It was a beautiful experience which I won't forget. Rodigo showed me and my boyfriend around in Lisboa and showed us some places where NO tourists ever would go! We went to unique places, saw amazing views, laughed and learned. Besides, we had nice conversations about the differences between Holland and Lisboa and we ate lovely typical Lisboan food such as Passel da Nata and Biffana.
We hate tourism is a lovely company which shows you the REAL city instead of just showing the possitive side and driving around in a huge bus with your headphones on. We would request anyone to go on a tour with them. They speak fluently English, are kind and helpfull. There was really nothing bad or disappointing about We hate Tourism tours. Getting to know Toby was the highlight of our trip. Not just the tour, but our entire trip. And the tour was great, too! We enjoyed the history lessons and the hole-in-the-wall views. In one spot, we laughed at the other tourists from afar as they tried squeezing past one another on their tippy toes trying to see anything but sweaty, hairy necks. We, on the other (less sweaty) hand, were left breathless with our unobstructed views. Toby is a pro and undoubtedly personable. I consider myself cooler having met him. I can't recommend this tour enough. Enjoy!

Some would say doing a city tour with two teenage boys in August is perhaps not sensible or wise. However, they and us had a really great time with Rodrigo. We were lucky that we were the only people on the tour so he was able to tailor it to our interests.
He met us on time, and spent 10 minutes chatting with us to find out what we interested In and liked (with two teenage boys, photography and Man Utd) so took us to some in the viewpoints not in the guidebooks, and some 'Jose Mourinho' sights. Great food at a local eatery that we perhaps would not have chosen to go if we had been on our own, eating wild blackberries whilst overlooking the '25th April bridge'. Viewing literally 'underground artwork' developers are destroying. And then offering to drop us back at our accommodation or wherever we wanted.
It was great being able to chat to him and find out a local's view on tourism, the economic and social issues Lisbon and Portugal face, and he engaged with our two boys really well, so much so that they want to go back and go another tour with him.

We did The King of The Hills tour in the jeep. Our tour guide was lovely BUT we couldn't hear him as he either spoke whilst driving or the traffic around us was so loud. The tour was no where near as much fun as we thought. There was too much 'filler' talking and it could have been completed in 2 hours max. It just wasn't as much fun as we'd expected. We thought that there would have been more of a twist to the production and presentation of the tour as it was expensive. Not great but not terrible. N/B. You don't get entrance to any of the paid sights - it's more of 'views' tour and you don't go across the bridge at all (just incase you were wondering).
You do get a sweet wine and a the local speciality cake.

Going on a tour with the guys from We Hate Tourism Tours is a real treat. It's like going on a short roadtrip with your best friends. You get the chance to discover Lisbon in a different and edgy way.
My guide Toby was awesome. He took us to the wildest places (a cemetery!!) to get the most incredible views over the city! I truly enjoyed exchanging some words with Toby. He's funny, smart and he is so eager to share so many things about his city. We all arrived as strangers and left as friends.

This was the second time we booked a trip with WHTT and we just love it. Last year me and my husband took a basic tour in Lisbon and got to experience this wonderful city from the inside. Recommend the trip to everyone first time in Lisbon! This year we brought our grown up kids (18-25 yrs old) and some friends and we took a private tour to Sintra and Cabo da Roca. Everyone loved it! By coincidence one of the guides this year was the same as last year! @Pedro - you rock:) But all guides are very engaged, relaxed and nice!

Ganz klare Weiterempfehlung. Für 50 € hatten wir einen rundum perfekten Tag und konnten die Hotspots im Umland von Lissabon erkunden. Unser Fahrer Toby hat den Tag ziemlich unterhaltsam gestaltet, wir waren eine tolle Truppe (8 leute + Fahrer) - sicherlich gehört dazu auch ein bisschen Glück. 7 Stunden waren wir unterwegs, wurden mit Essen und Wein versorgt und konnten uns an den einzelnen Stationen frei bewegen - jedoch immer mit einem Geheimtip von Toby im Gepäck. Ein besseres Preis-Leitungsverhältnis habe ich selten erlebt. Top!

What a great concept. The trips are wonderful due to the quality of the people that hosted us. Our family enjoyed the Jeep tour which we used early in our trip to orient us to Lisbon. Then several days later we took the day trip out to Sintra and Casais with Toby. Our local hosts were wonderful and made us feel welcome. By the end of our time together we were all friends, enjoying our time together. Quality people with a quality concept that works for those of us who hate to be herded around in the typical large group tours. A highlight of our day trip was the lunch where we were able to make new friends over good wine and local food. Absolutely tops and highly recommended.

Toby and João were fantastic - informative, enthusiastic, and careful drivers which is an absolute essential in Lisboa. Really enjoyed our tour today with Miguel, he was entertaining, welcoming and full of great stories. We used this company on our trip to Lisbon last year and both tours were equally great, they never disappoint. If you want a bit of an alternative and a more personal tour than the usual tourist tours, choose this company.
The jeep tour we did today was perfect for this hot sunny day, we got the cool breeze as we drove around lovely Lisbon. Lisbon is full of hills so it was great to be chauffeured around with great stories, and seeing all sides of this beautiful city.
The tour guides are very personable with this company, they are people who also like to travel and you don't feel like the tour is as 'rehearsed' as you might find with other companies. You won't be disappointed.

We Hate Tourism Tours is simply the best! If you want to go on a tour in Lisbon or to Sintra, and DON'T want to be on a bus with 28 other people and a guide you are listening to on a headphone, then this is the tour for you.
They only take eight people and the guides are wonderful. It feels like a friend that is taking you around their city.
This is my second visit to Lisbon, and my second time booking tours with this company. I have gotten to experience tours with several different guides and they are all wonderful.

LOVED Marcos' Pirate Tour!
On the April 25th holiday six of us were scooted around in a van with a fabulously-entertaining local Lisboan, Marcos Sobral, who is passionate about his country, city, surfing, photography and local food. He speaks faster and better English than many New Yorkers! This was a tour not filled with facts but fun and killer scenery, a balance of driving and walking. He is ideal for the young and young at heart because it was a stimulating look at Lisbon views and mostly the upscale beach towns of the north. You'll swoon at the architecture, drool at the food and plan your next trip to Portugal. We Hate Tourism Tours is the tour company to love!

We had a good day on the Pirates of the Cruise Ship tour, but it wasn't all we expected. The tour noted it would include "famous pastries and Ginjinha" and "streets of historical centre of Lisbon". Our guide was insightful but didn't keep our group on schedule and, as a result, we missed the final part of the tour in Lisbon where we would have had the pastries and Ginjinha - things we were really looking forward to and we were very disappointed when they were not provided. True, we did get to our ship right on time and would have been in trouble with the ship's departure had the final stop been made, but we thought that the tour would be managed to ensure it was ALL completed on time (less time at the historical house in Sintra would have worked very well). We also were disappointed that the "streets of historical centre of Lisbon" consisted only of a drive through town to get in and out with a drive through a flea market on the way out (not a good use of time - a street flea market is not all that interesting). The one stop at a lookout over Lisbon was good, but wasn't the extent of time seeing the city we expected. This was my first trip to Lisbon and I thought the tour would give me more of a sense of the city as opposed to being about 80% or more outside of the city. What we saw and experienced outside of the city was good, but it wasn't what we thought we'd get based on the company's description of the tour.
We also had some challenges booking as the tour was full when we first contacted the company and we were told we would be put on a wait list. Later on I visited the site again and discovered I could book it but never had any correspondence with the company letting me know that. So, if you really want a tour and it is full, keep checking their website yourself - the wait list doesn't seem to always work.
Lastly, we are vegetarians and noted two vegetarians when we booked only to find that our confirmation noted only one. Then, when we started the tour, we found our guide had no idea there were any vegetarians at all. So, if a special diet is important to you, double check this as you book.
Bottom line: this is a good company to use, but you need to make sure that you are getting all you think you are going to get and, even then, you may not get what was promised.

Fabulous tour! Signed up for a jeep tour...but it rained the night before and the jeep was wet, so we got a van tour instead. Good thing cuz it rained that morning and we would have been soaked! If you have a great sense of humor hang out with these guys. If you are uptight and no fun...go elsewhere. Oh...and a side note, they are easy on the eyes to boot... :)

We did the 'king of the hills' tour with Gonzi, which takes you on a ride in the only 4*4 vehicle every made by a Portuguese company (UMM) - so cool!

We did the Sintra tour with Pedro and we loved it. The tour was so much fun and it did really feel like it was run by a friend. I will recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon. Once we arrived back at our hotels we tried to book some of their other tours but they were all full so make sure to book in advance.

I truly LOVED We Hate Tours! I always dreaded the big bus tours for reasons that made you hate tours. When I found your website while planning my trip to Lisbon, I enjoyed the funny and mischievous presentation of your company.
I went on three tours with you and truly enjoyed the experience. You know your history, and if you didn't know something maybe you made it up, and I believed you!
Your idea of small groups is different and it gave me the chance to talk to the other passengers, and I even made friends with a couple who invited me to visit them in their country.
I am sharing my experience with you with everyone and I am asking them to check your website if they want to get a few laughs, even if they don't plan to visit Lisbon.

My friend and I did the Introduction to Lisbon tour. We thought it would be ideal since we didn't have much time in the city and it was! The tour is perfect for young people who want to get a taste of Lisbon from the eyes of a local. We were shown around by fun-loving Miguel who gave us an idea of how Lisbon changed through the ages and what makes it special today. We were also given local food and the delicious cherry liquor ginjinha to try. The best part of the tour was the personal touch it had. Miguel was not afraid to be himself, telling small stories and cracking jokes with us and in the friendly atmosphere, we made one more friend from the tour from Germany. Highly recommended!

My husband and I typically like to do our own research and explore new cities on our own but I am SO GLAD we decided to sign up for two We Hate Tourism tours (Sintra and Dinner with us or Starve). It was the best part of our trip! Our guide Pedro was AWESOME. He was knowledgeable and friendly and shared lots of fun facts about the area. And he even shared some of his favorite restaurant suggestions (one of which was through an unmarked door which we never would have found if he hadn't given us detailed instructions on what to look for!) and grabbed a few beers with my husband and I after the tour was over. Because of the small tour size, we felt like we were just a group of friends hanging out in the city, not a homogeneous group of tourists following a guide. We would highly recommend these tours to anyone who wants an authentic and fun experience in Lisbon!

Both days were great fun and both guides really went the extra mile to make these some of the best memories I have ever had! It was wonderful to get a local's perspective on food, wine, restaurants, history, the people and politics. I absolutely can't wait to go back - the people at We Hate Tourism really feel like family. Offbeat, irreverent, honest and hilarious. If these words interest you, just book a tour with this group. We went during a day-long stop while on a cruise. Honestly, it was probably THE most fun tour we've ever taken! We are senior citizens, by age. But our outlook is not, and this was perfect for us. Not a museum to be seen, it was a fun day of anecdotes, political education, crazy conversations and great wine and foods. Just go.

Stadtführung einmal anders. Hier bekommt man in kleinen Gruppen neben den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten auch die weniger bekannten Ecken gezeigt, erfährt etwas über Street Art, hält nach Flamingos Ausschau oder wird in kleine und gute Restaurants geführt, die in keinem Stadtführer stehen. Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert.

Absolutely amazing tour! Was recommended by a friend and we would highly recommend the tour for anyone wanting to explore Lisbon through the eyes of a local. My boyfriend and I did the dinner tour starting at 7pm. We had such a great guide and we were enjoying ourselves so much that we finished at 1am! Incredible for a tour!! The dinner restaurant was in the local neighbourhood that our guide grew up in which was so cool! We traveled in a private van driven by our guide who kept stopping and pulling over and letting us get out, take photos and explore areas. Just awesome! I believe there is no other company that can show you Lisbon like We Hate Tourism Tours!

I booked the X-Day trip to Sintra and Cascais with We Hate Tourism Tours. Our guide, Pedro, met the group at Praca Dom Pedro IV. There was a slight delay to the start of our trip since we had to wait for other folks to join but not a problem either. Schedule was flexible and we had several stops to accommodate coffee break, ice cream break, check out the beach break :) Our first destination was Sintra, but we stopped at a cafe/pastry shop on the way. It was cool because it gave the group a chance to talk and get to know one another. Pedro then dropped us off at the downtown area of Sintra to sightsee, then brought us to Quinta da Regalaira after. This is where we spent bulk of our time. After this, we headed off to a typical Portuguese lunch at a roadside food truck. Awesome lunch!!! I even picked up some organic goods from a nearby market. We went to Cabo da Roca and Cascais in the afternoon, and capped the trip with pastries at Largo do Camoes. Overall, a very chill tour, and I thoroughly enjoyed the company I was with. I definitely recommend this tour.

We took the tour in September of this year. We were on a cruise and a group of us booked this cruise independent of the ship. It is one of the best things we have ever done.
We saw & did things we never would have done on any other tour. Our driver was informative ,funny ,and just a joy to lesson to. We did the whole day tour. We would advise this company to anyone who wants to "see" the city audit should be seen and have the time of their lives.

This summer I joined the WHTT in Sintra+Cascais, since I were in Lisbon without a vehicle and I wanted to spend some time wandering around the city.
I have to say it was pretty fun, also if I'm not usually an "organized-tour person". But it was easy to plan and catch, and almost private (we were only 7).
So forget about traditional tours as known as a bunch of people following a guy with an umbrella - and imagine jumping in a car of a local friend!

Wir haben gerade die Dinner-Tour in Lissabon gemacht und sind sehr froh, glücklich und lachen heute noch... Es war ein absolutes Highlight. Eine kleine Gruppe, ein sagenhafter und lustiger Marcos. Schade, wird hatten nur Zeit für eine Tour mit ihnen, sonst hätten wir uns für noch mehr Programmpunkte entschieden. Also: Bald wieder nach Lissabon... :)

If you do only one thing in Portugal, take a tour with We Hate Tourism!! You will then experience MANY awesome aspects because each We Hate Tourism outing is the best blend of sightseeing, history, political dynamics, urban/pop culture, foodie stuff, and genuine Portuguese hospitality you will find. My husband and I have taken 2 tours- Dine with Us or Starve, and King of the Hills- most recently in Feb. 2015. Each left us with a greater appreciation and love for Lisboa (for example, who knew the street art was so fantastic!!). In fact one of the guides we had in 2013 is now a personal friend following an epic night out on the town :) This is not a tour company, it's a group of people who love their homeland who just happen to also give tours. If you want to feel at home in Portugal, don't miss it. You truly will be sorry you did.

We did the Sintra day tour and it was excellent. We wouldn't have done it any other way. From the sights to the food to the stories, it was like meeting new friends and I would recommend it to everyone!

I went to Lisbon in October and saw We Hate Tourism on Trip Advisor before setting off. As I traveled alone, I decided to go on the Dinner With Us trip so I would have some company and be taken to try local tastes and sights I wouldn't have found on my own. Although I was slightly nervous I needn't have been. Most of The group I travelled with were also travelling solo, and our tour leader Pedro was SO welcoming, friendly and informative.
Everything was pitched perfectly. The food, the night tour, and the glass of port in Mouraria was one of the loveliest moments of the trip.

don`t worry this has nothing to do with Tourism! We had an awesome time on our dinner tour. We have been in an authentic and very lovely portuguese restaurant. The food was delicious and it was a lot of fun to meet different people from all over the world. Also to drive through Lissabon by Night was a great adventure. I would highly recommend the tour. MUST-DO!!

So, the vans are not all that... The drivers drive a bit like crazy... We had some loud music playing, and if we would complain, he would stop and leave us there... They might do it if you support the wrong football club... There seems to be no real schedule... Seriously? No, of course not... Well, a bit maybe... ;-)
Imagine having good friends in Lisbon... And while you are visiting this great city, they get the best van they can get (yeah, that may not be the best van ever) to show you around the city... They happen to like the same music as you do, and so the iPod comes out and starts crancking... Cruising along the beaches of Cascais with some John Lee Hooker on, while enjoying the ride...
Imagine, you happen to like the beach, so your friends take some more time on the beach... They know you like to eat, so on the map they draw out some must-go restaurants... Advice you that the best way to get there is by metro, and which station to go to... And of course, they recommend some dishes too that you never even heared of before... But they do, you just have to take the risk of ordering something unknown...
Of course, your friends cannot take you out to eat at the most expensive places for lunch... But they take you to some very good local places... Small places where the owners prepare the food themselves, and take pride in what they offer... And besides what you order, they insist you try some of the things they are very proud of... Soon it feels like you are one of the locals here...
That's what this company is all about... Having a great time with friends... by going around visiting the must-have-seen places, and everything interesting along the way... If that's what you're looking for, these are the guys to contact... If you do, say hi to Miguel and Marcos from me... ;-)

This is a great group of Lisbon locals, all different from each other, but all sharing a visible passion for Lisbon and Portugal (and good life in general!). With the half/full day trips and experiences they're willing to share this amazing country with you, including its less shiny side that only the locals know and the touristic companies prefer hiding from the travelers. I recommend these guys to everyone visiting Portugal and I wish I could find this elsewhere in the world.

Amazing tours by amazing people. Such a great way to get under the skin of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The guides are all locals who clearly love Lisbon so much, their enthusiasm is infectious and it feels like you're hanging out with an old friend who's taking some time out to show you around their hometown. Couldn't recommend doing one of these tours enough!

Wir waren mit Pedro in Sintra und Cascais. Pedro war mit Herzblut bei der Sache und hat uns wirklich seine persönlichen Lieblingsspots gezeigt. Er hatte viel Hintergrundwissen und konnte auf alle Fragen Rede und Antwort stehen.
Am Ende lud er uns noch spontan auf ein Bierchen ein bei seinem Lieblingsplatz wo es fast nur Locals hatte.

I don't think I've ever really enjoyed a city tour before, but with Rodrigo our group had an amazing time! We got to see Lisbon from the perspective of a local, and I learned a great deal about the history of the city and it's current situation. Rodrigo took great care of us throughout the day, and even showed us a few secret spots that I can guarantee I never would have seen on my own. I would highly recommend this tour and We Hate Tourism Tours Lisboa!

I'm usually a sceptic when it comes to guided city tours, but this one was really great. Authentic, unpretentious, insightful and fun. I saw many places I'd never would have visited otherwise, and feel I got a behind-the-scenes look of Lisbon. Very much recommended for tourists that are interested in more than just the big popular sights.

We had a tour with Rodrigo and it was the best city tour I've had so far in any city. I must say I've been to Lisbon before, so if you really want to see the standard sights, like Belem e.g., this is probably not the right tour for you. But if you want to see Lisbon from new, local perspectives (not only visually but also in terms of politics, history and social life), this is your tour.

On a previous visit to Lisbon, I discovered We Hate Tourism Tours. On that visit, I took both the King of the Hills Tour and the X - Day Tour, and had a fabulous time. When I travel, I always attempt to see what I consider to be the real city, not just the big tourist spots. Since this visit, I have referred a number of family members and friends to We Hate Tourism Tours, knowing that they would have a great experience. I have retuned to Lisbon on several occasions, and always take a tour with this company. I have great memories of these days and continue to stay in contact with several of the people that I met through these tours, because we shared a special experience together.
I am looking forward to a return visit in 2016. And will be very happy to see the people that I met at We Hate Tourism Tours again. I consider Bruno to be my little cousin in Lisbon!

Sept 2015 . I chose this firm because (a) internet descriptions implied uniquely local experiences ,,, and the internet was totally correct and (b) any questions I asked regarding their tours or Lisbon in general were responded to very quickly and professionally (thank you Marta) . We (6 adults) took the X-day trip and the Dinner with Us or Starve. The X-day trip was great ... we saw what was advertised, but with a tailored, personalized flair ... it was a perfect day outing. The Dinner tour was one of the best, most memorable travel/food experiences my family has ever had. The restaurant (Lucimar) was perfect, the food was fantastic, the drive to different sltes in the city and Belem was informative and entertaining. Many thank-yous to our guide that night ... Goncalo.

Those guys are offering a very individual trip for you and take you to places you should not miss!
It was an unforgetable experience and when we make it to Lisbon again, we will book all other additional tours they offer!
It is absolutely worth the money and you will not regret! This was no usual tourism tour for us, it was a very valuable experience and so individual, because the groups are very smal and we were driving in a very nice van :-)

We took the King of the Hills jeep tour, and it was incredible. The route was tailor made to our group's interest and went way beyond my expectations.
Rodrigo is very nice and knowledgable, a real joy to be with during a tour.
If it is a sunny day, be prepared with hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
If you want to see Lisbon through the eyes of the locals go for these tours, you won't regret it.

We had an amazing time on the dinner tour with We Hate Tourism Tours! I traveled to Lisboa with my sister and a friend, and we were lucky to get added to a dinner tour just days before. They are usually booked, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. Rodrigo was our host, and he gave us an exciting, authentic and personal look at Lisboa.
I would definitely recommend We Hate Tourism Tours for anyone who is looking for an authentic, local experience in Lisboa. I would also check out the King of the Hills tour. We didn't have a chance to do that tour, but would love to return and do it next time.
Lisboa is unlike any other city in the world and We Hate Tourism Tours is a great way to experience it.

I visited Lisbon 2 years ago and went on the Sintra and Cascais tour. It was fabulous! SO fabulous in fact that when I returned to Portugal recently on my honeymoon, I booked the Lisbon dinner tour for my new husband and myself. Rodrigo took us to several hilltop spots in Lisbon with great views. We had a beer and snacks on one, then went to dinner at his favorite local restaurant (a place he'd been frequenting since childhood!), and afterwards we had a pastel de nata and port wine from another beautiful hilltop overlooking the city. Several of us even went out with Rodrigo after the official tour had ended. Can't go wrong with We Hate Tourism!

I took two tours from this company in December of 2014. I stayed a total of 10 days in Lisbon in total.
I highly recommend this tour company.
The first tour I took was on my third day in the city and was the Intro to Lisbon tour. Marcos was the tour guide. He was very knowledgable, enthusiastic and polite. We saw many locations that were unique and likely difficult to find without being in Lisbon for a long time. We were treated 5 foods/drinks that are popular in Lisbon. I saw a number of places that I had not even heard about even though I had been in the city for a couple days already and researched the trip a few weeks in advance.
The second tour I took was the dinner tour. Rodrigo was the tour guide for this dinner. He drove us around town at night and showed us a number of sites with political and historical significance. You will spend an hour or two eating with the guide and other travelers. Clearly, the other travelers will have an impact on how enjoyable the tour is. Rodrigo was good at getting everyone to open up and contribute their perspectives and experiences during the tour. This tour offers a nice opportunity to meet other fellow travelers.
There was a little bit of overlap between the two tours, but they were distinct enough to feel like I received good value from doing both tours. The Intro to Lisbon was great at exposing me to places I wanted to come back to and spend more time in. The dinner tour was nice because you get to meet other travelers over a Portuguese dinner. You also will get to see some of the major sites of Lisbon on the dinner tour.
I thought the two tour guides were great ambassadors of Lisbon. Both clearly love their city. Both clearly know a lot about Lisbon. I think the owner of the business has selected an energetic and knowledgable staff to operate the tours.
