Let's be honest: you don't know anything about Portuguese cuisine because it's overshadowed by nearby countries. This tour might just be the cure for your lack of familiarity. It's easygoing, it's comfortable. You'll enjoy every minute whether it's you first food tour ever, or you're a diehard foodie pestering them with 1,000 questions (which they will answer!).
Come hungry... each portion is relatively small, but there are a bunch of them. If you don't like something, there's no shame! The guides are, in all things, accommodating and genuinely warm.
One note: if you've been on food tours before, this one is more along the lines of a restaurant tour than say one which mostly visits shops selling foods and ingredients typical in traditional dishes. There was only one place in which purchases could be made, and there was zero pressure to buy.
Great way to spend an afternoon "learning." And don't worry, the walk is not rigorous at all. Fully recommended to all.

Ruthy and the tour were AMAZING. She was very genuine and made the tour seem very personal and exciting. Her positive attitude and love for the city, culture, and people gave the tour a wonderful air. The food was delicious; we left with very happy bellies. With the walking portion and the history we learned, we could not have asked for a better way to appreciate what Alfama has to offer in such a quick 3.5hrs. Totally worth it. I would go so far as to say that this experience was the highlight of our stay in Lisbon. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Marianne was our guide for the afternoon, she was knowledgeable, well spoken and charming. She took us to small, out of the way places we'd never find. I was travelling solo and she made feel comfortable and welcome.
Many tasty eats and drinks, lots of history and an all round great experience!
I would recommend 100%

My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with Ruthie. This tour was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Ruthie was enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable about Lisbon and the surrounding areas. She made everyone feel welcome and I felt like we all instantly connected. Every place we went was local and family owned and you could tell she had a real friendship with the owners. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food and drink and the experience overall. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Make sure you specifically book the food tour with Ruthie, Rita and Marianne. Others may have a similar tour, but this is the original and well worth it!

Don’t get it twisted. Ruthy’s tour is the original and best food tour in Lisbon. This tour also competes with any food tour you’ll find in the word. The food and alcohol lived up to the hype and Ruthy’s personality exceeded expectations. She has a genuinely warm and bubbly personality.
If you are going to Lisbon you’d be be foolish to not make this apart of your trip no matter how long your stay! Great for couples or if you’re traveling solo and want to meet people.

Rita, our guide, was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and kind. This tour is great if you want to eat fantastic food, learn about Portuguese history, meet other great people visiting Lisbon, and learn about restaurants and sights to visit in Lisbon. I highly recommend this tour, as it was a highlight of our trip.

What a fun way to spend a few hours! We LOVE food tours as you can’t beat having a local take you to amazing local restaurants to try amazing food, beer, and wine.
Not only do you get to experience a little bit of the city, but you can tap into the knowledge of a local for any other questions that you may have! Priceless!
Our tour guide was Marianne and she was fantastic. She handled the rowdy group very well! Lol. We love to meet people and have fun and that’s exactly what we did on this tour.
She took us to places that I didn’t even know existed! There is no way someone not from this area would know about these restaurants. Every restaurant seemed to be owned and operated by generations of families. Recipes that were passed down and are still being used today. All amazing.
It didn’t seem that we did too much walking, but we saw a lot of the city. She stopped for some great photo ops and we never felt rushed at any location
I would highly recommend this tour!

This is an amazing food tour/history lesson/cultural explanation of Lisbon (specifically in the Alfama district)!!! The guide, Rita, provided an excellent tour filled with lots of local information, tastings and explanations about the foods (all delicious and varied) and drinks. She also gave amazing suggestions for restaurants, places to see in the area, and tips on what not to miss. This was the best way to spend a morning and you will not be hungry afterwards!

Excellent tour with an amazing tour guide. She was incredibly knowledgable and entertaining. The food tour tried different items but mostly got shown around the Alfama neighborhood and learned some interesting facts about the region and culture.

Absolutely stunning, start to finish. Rita took us on a journey through authentic Portuguese foods, with great energy and enthusiasm. It was a perfect balance between enjoying the many dishes and learning about their place in culture and context. Rita also made us feel so welcome, and created a really lovely group dynamic with all her friendly conversation and by asking each of us about food cultures in our home countries. It was our first day in Lisbon and we feel like we will enjoy the city so much more now that we have experienced its culinary highlights with Rita. A real gem of a tour!

This is by far one of the best experiences I've ever had! The food was incredible and Ruthy is so knowledgable and charming. The places we visited are exactly what I was looking for, small and locally owned authentic eateries. It was the perfect way to get a taste and walking tour of the city. The group was wonderful and eclectic and it felt like you were out with friends. Ruthy is so genuinely passionate about food and getting to know people, I would highly recommend this if you're ever in Lisbon.

What’s the best way to really get a feel for a place? Walk the neighborhood, eat at the bars and cafes and talk to locals. Ruthy’s Lisbon's Best Flavors tour does exactly this. We started off with a unique view of the city overlooking the sea and various neighborhoods of Lisbon. We then made our way through the Alfama neighborhood to various bakeries, and bistros, sampling specialties of each. Throughout the walk, Ruthy pointed out various murals, neighborhood points of interests and imparted her own experiences with local cuisine. The pace was perfect between walking and stopping to eat and drink. Considering all of the delicious meals, insight into the neighborhood and comraderie, the price was well worth it, an experience we could not have duplicated on our own.

An absolutely delightful way to spend a few hours in Lisbon. If you like food even a little bit, you'll LOVE this tour. One of the best things I did there all week! I booked the "Lisbon's Best Flavors" tour on AirBNB, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! Rita was a wonderful guide, leading us through the winding streets of Lisbon to little restaurants and cafes with delicious food and memorable hosts. I felt I got the "real" Lisbon experience on this tour. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful experience! Ruthy was so fun and knowledgeable, and she was very easy to talk to. I appreciated that we visited family-owned cafes and restaurants—it didn’t feel like we were eating at tourist traps. There was a delicious variety of pastry, fish, cheese, meat, and drinks. You do eat a lot of food on the tour, but you will walk a lot as well. I didn’t feel overly full at the end. I also enjoyed chatting with the other guests from around the world. Like others have said, it would be best to do this at the beginning of your time in Lisbon so you know where to visit again. Ruthy gave us some great recommendations for other places to go, including a rooftop bar that we visited after the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in food and wants to know more about Portuguese culture and history!

Imagine; you only have one day to spend in Lisbon. You are crazy about local specialties such as wines, snacks and sweets. (Eating and drinking in food establishments that have not yet been discovered by the masses). And, oh yes, a hostess / guide who is energetic, creates a personal atmosphere and is a good storyteller? Then this food tour is an absolute must. In about 3 to 3.5 hours, you will get to know the district of Alfama, that is strewn with stairs, both its most culinary and historical side. The only way I can describe Rita is human sunshine!!! Over the course of a few hours we all became friends and fit right in with the locals. I don't want to give too much away about this food tour as I think leaving it as a surprise is the best way to go. It is a perfect mix of food, alcohol and a few stops to get a brief and interesting history of this amazing city. I want to come back and do this tour all over again because I miss Rita already!! OBRIGADO (and have a great wedding Ruthy <3 )

My partner and I did this food tour and we can’t recommend it enough. We hit all the best foods and drinks in the beautiful, historic Alfama district. Our guide was Rita. She was so knowledgable, funny, expressive, and was genuinely interested in our lives and our visit in Lisbon. Unlike other tours we had on our trip, Rita actually set this up so that we could connect with our fellow group members as well. We found that to be a rare perk.
Overall, we’re recommending this to all our friends and were so grateful. A perfect way to start your trip in Lisbon!

Well organised tour with a guide who works hard that all group members feel comfortable and have a good experience. The visited places all served nice food, but don't expect fine dining. A box wine might be advertised for a product from a small family wine yard with sustainable production - but it's part of the experience. All together a great evening, would do it again.

Ruthy and Marianne were so warm, welcoming and fun. From the first time we met them we knew we were in for a fun day as they were so bubbly. The tour takes you to various locations, all special in their own way, and introduces you to different foods, and drinks which are particular to Portugal. All the foods were delicious, and the information provided was very interesting. We were also encouraged to interact with the other guests and we had so much fun together! Rita, our guide, was absolutely amazing. This tour far exceeded my expectations, both in entertainment and in food. We were wined and dined with phenomenal tasting experiences throughout Alfama, and entertained by the lovely, delightful and funny Rita. This is a MUST DO if you are visiting Lisbon, especially if you are new to Portugese food. I expected a few treats and a few drinks - but at the end, we were all full and satiated and probably will skip dinner now. this was a great way to kick off our trip! it was nice to get acclimated & the lay of the land, while sampling great foods/wines/beers and getting background information. ruthy and her husband were great hosts—energetic, warm and fun! they were able to accommodate all kinds of eating preferences/restrictions. our stops on the tour provided great foods and atmosphere (my favorite being the last stop!). would highly recommend to any friends or family heading to lisbon in the future. thanks for a great first night in your city!

Oh my gosh! The few hours the four of us spent with Ruthy was such a surprisingly amazing experience, that we are still talking about it. Her genuinely warm and cheerful personality, the undoubtedly delicious food and the scenery you walk through ... what can we say?! Just give it a try, will you? It's sooo worth it! Definitely one of the best things we did in Lisbon. We just wish we had booked the experience for the first or the second day of our trip, so we could have known exactly what to eat for the rest of the week. Portuguese cuisine is exceptional, just as its culture and architecture!

Ruthy is very enthusiastic and you can tell so really loves being a guide. She’s shows you unique places in Alfama that you would miss otherwise. My boyfriend and I recently had the pleasure of booking a food tour with Ruthy. We had amazing food and we also got to learn about the Alfama District in Lisbon. I don't drink alcohol and Ruthy was able to easily accommodate that. Although we had the full group of 12, the tour still felt personal. The entire experience was amazing and it was a great way to start our trip in Portugal. 100% very highly recommended!!!! You will kick yourself if you don't do it!

This was our first food tour ever, and we loved it. We were somewhat anxious going into it since we don’t drink alcohol, and we eat seafood only, but Ruthy and her husband were phenomenal. They were friendly, cheerful, super accommodating and extremely knowledgeable of all things Lisbon. The tour is very well thought out and socially conscious, in that it supports a lot of local, family-owned establishments. We walked away with a good sense of Portuguese cooking. In addition to being a culinary tour, it ended up being a fairly detailed tour of the Alfama district too. I highly recommend this trip to anybody visiting Lisbon.

Wonderful tour! It was fun, informative and we had great food and met some local people on the way. I would definitely recommend to friends who come to Lisbon, it is a great introduction to the city, the people and the food!

Très bonne balade, dans le quartier historique d'Alfama. Superbe découverte gustative avec bonnes adresses à découvrir et recommander. Le tout avec des guides acceuillant et sympatique !

Nous avons souhaiter visiter Lisbonne avec mon mari de cette façon et nous avons été ravis ! Malgré notre âge et la découverte de la ville aux 7 collines et ses nombreuses montées et descentes Ruthy et Marcio parviennent à faire un parcours adapté où nous marchons raisonnablement. Nous avons adoré le pasteis de nata lors du dernier arrêt, nous n'avons pas mangé le soir tant nous étions remplis.

My wife and I are visiting Lisbon for the first time and decided that a walking food tour would be a good way to get to know the city itself and the food that we should be eating while here to get the full Lisbon experience. We are both so happy that we chose Treasures of Lisboa Food Tours. Our guides were incredibly welcoming and kind and made me feel like a friend they were showing around a city they love rather than a client. They took every opportunity to teach us not only about Portuguese food, but also about the culture and history of Lisbon as a city and the changes it is currently undergoing. They also gave us numerous "insider tips" about where to find great drinks, food, and entertainment other than the tour itself.
This is, of course, a food tour, so let's talk about the food we ate. It ranged from coffee and pastries to liquor and chocolate with everything in-between. At each local, specialty restaurant, our guides would explain the traditional food or drink we were trying, the cultural origins and significance, and why they had chosen that venue to showcase that food. They took care of all of the details so all we had to do was sit down and dig in.
Between venues, we would frequently stop so our guides could point out a building, view, or architectural detail of special significance or beauty. Because we took this tour, we now have the address of a number of wonderful spots we want to return to as we continue exploring the city. The entire tour took approximately 3.5 hours to complete and we were genuinely engaged the entire time.
This was our first walking food tour and we happened to schedule it for our first morning in Lisbon. Because of this excellent experience, we are now discussing making a walking food tour a routine part of our vacation experience.

Lovely and delicious food tour through the city! The owners are very passionate and nice people who will make sure you have a great time. It was the highlight of our trip and we even went back to places they took us after the tour. Great way to start your trip in Lisbon!

Incroyablement bien. On avait déjà visité la ville deux fois mais ce circuit gastronomique à Lisbonne est un de nos meilleur souvenirs.
On voulait faire quelque chose de nouveau alors on a réservé ça et c'est sans regrets! On a franchement bien mangé (un peu trop :D), on a vu des coins cachés qu'on avait vu pendant nos précédents voyages. Ma femme a préféré le plateau avec les 6 variétés de fromages mais moi je suis tombé amoureux du choriço flambé. À noter: on avait prévenu que ma femme est végétarienne, et le guide s'est adapté sans problème.. quelque chose de rare qui était très sympa!

Excellente expérience ! Je ne connaissais ni la gastronomie portugaise ni la ville de Lisbonne. Grâce à ce food tour et surtout grâce aux guides touristiques, j'ai passé 3h à marcher dans les rues les plus typiques de Lisbonne en dégustant diverses spécialités culinaires.
Je ne peux que recommander de réserver un food tour !
