Монастырь иеронимитов /Mosteiro dos Jerònimos/ представляет собой яркий пример мануэлино-архитектурного стиля, характерного только для Португалии. Основными чертами, присущими ему, являются употребление в архитектурном оформлении животных и растительных мотивов, которые были навеяны /принесены/ морскими походами во время Эпохи Великих Географических открытий. Santa Maria de Belem (free entry) is the Church at Jerónimos Monastery that you can enter and visit separately to the rest of the monastery grounds. Built during much of the 16th century, this is a beautiful church, featuring fine representation of Late Gothic Manueline and early Renaissance architecture. Opening Hours are 10am-6pm (Tues - Sat), 2-6pm (Sun). The church is closed on Mondays. Do take a few minutes to enjoy the South Portal entrance before entering the Church of Santa Maria. This entranceway is highly decorative with a multitude of small pinnacles and numerous carved figures. Near the entrance to the monastery there is another smaller but equally delightful entrance into the church. The interior of the church features a tall nave with ribbed vaults, supported by thin octagonal shaped pillars. This is a Late Gothic Manueline gem, similar to the architecture you will see throughout the cloister within the monastery. The front chapel showcases a touch of renaissance. Frescos and royal tombs can be seen here, while the tomb of Navigator, Vasco de Gama is situated in the back of the nave. Impressive stained glass windows, frescos and decorative walls adorn the remaining sections of the nave. Note: If you visit the monastery grounds, there is second floor viewing area, overlooking the inside of the church. This is a great vantage point for viewing the interior of the Church of Santa Maria. Overall, a visit to Jerónimos Monastery and the Church of Santa Maria is highly recommendable during visits to Lisbon. This is one of the clear highlight of time spent in Belem. History and architecture fans in particular will want to make time for this attraction.

Chiesa inponente per me la chiesa più bella di Lisbona. non e' solo un monumento e' una chiesa parrocchiale attiva con messe ,compresa nel piu' anpio Monastero di Jeronimo, un altro sito da non perdere con chiostro molto bello, inoltre in questa chiesa sono sepolti i personaggi storici portoghesi piu' in vista da vedere assolutamente

Church built using the Manueline style. You'll find different elements of the navigation spirit of portuguese people in the façade. I suggest you go with a guide who can explain you all the important details. For example, one guide told me that some of the tombs are fake.

As it is located on the campus of Jeronimo's Monastery, another must-see Lisbon site, there really is no excuse not to stop in. Plus historic Portuguese figures are buried/memorialized here.

Μετα την εισοδο δεξια και αριστερα θα δεις τους ταφους , των μεγαλων μορφών της Ιστορίας της Πορτογαλίας, του Luis de Camòes και του Vasco da Gama. Πολυχρωμα βιτρώ διακοσμουν τα παραθυρα. Η εισοδος ειναι δωρεαν. Καλυτερη ωρα μετα τις 14.00. Για την Μονη Αγιου Ιερωνυμου τα 12€ τα κρινω υπερβολικά.

Sorprende su espectacular interior, una visita obligatoria en el barrio de Belem. La entrada es gratuita. Destacar que debido a la misa por la mañana el Domingo solo puedes quedarte en la parte de atrás y no ir por todo su interior.

Das repräsentative, von João de Castilho geschaffene Südportal erstreckt sich über das Gesims der Klosterkirche hinaus. Es ist 32 m hoch und 12 m breit. Zwischen den beiden Eingangstüren steht die Figur Heinrichs des Seefahrers, über dem Bogen des Portals sehen wir die gekrönte Maria mit dem Kind. Ganz oben, vor dem Dachgesims wacht der Erzengel Gabriel. 24 fast lebensgroße Figuren, Apostel, Heilige und Bischöfe stehen unter Baldachinen. Spätgotische Fialen flankieren Rundbögen der Renaissance, umfangen von einem Formengeflecht aus Astwerk, Blattwerk und Zierblumen. Mit der dreischiffigen Hallenkirche schuf der Architekt João de Castilho einen der schönsten und ungewöhnlichsten Innenräume Portugals. Aus sechs schlanken Säulen öffnen sich die Rippen wie Palmwedel, um das Netzgewölbe in 25 m Höhe zu tragen. Das Gewölbe mit solch schlanken Bauteilen sicher zu halten ist auch eine statische Meisterleistung, die Halle ist immerhin 90 m lang und 27 m breit. Die vier stärkeren Vierungspfeiler sorgen dafür, dass das Querhaus von 29 x 19 m Größe ohne weitere Stützen auskommt. Durch ihre reiche Gestaltung wirken die Säulen fast schwerelos und ohne tragende Funktion. So grazil diese Konstruktion auch erscheinen mag, sie hat bislang nicht nur annähernd 500 Jahre überdauert, sondern auch das schwere Erdbeben von 1755, das nur wenige Kilometer entfernt ganze Stadtteile in Schutt und Asche gelegt hat. Unter der Empore, an der Nordseite, steht der Sarkophag Vasco da Gamas, der im neomanuelinischen Stil gehalten ist. Er starb am 24. Dezember 1524 als Vizekönig von Indien und wurde zunächst dort beerdigt und danach mehrfach umgebettet. Erst 1880 wurden seine sterblichen Überreste in diesem Ehrengrab beigesetzt.

La entrada es gratuita, pero como está al lado del Monasterio, había un poco de cola cuando fuimos. Merece la pena hacer ambas visitas.

Péssimo! Mudam o local da fila sem avisar nada. Filas de mais de uma hora. Sem prioridade para idosos e gestantes. Muito desorganizados.

This place looks much nicer than the museum next to it which attracted me to it after I completed it. The entrance is sort of hidden away at the end of the museum and you have to make a left turn to see it. I came pretty late so I only had time to see the insides before the garden was closed. There is one person standing at the door but he didnt do anything when I entered the church. The church has a wow factor to it as soon as you step in. From top to bottom. From bottom to top. I was worried I was going to pull my neck muscle from my quick swivels. There are nice paintings are around, nice chiseled pillars and ceiling support. There is of course seating areas on either side of the altar. There is more than enough for a big crowd. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area. It's full of nice finishes and architecture work all over the place and a good place to pray and rest!

Sehenswert. Die Schlange der Besucher ist lange aber es geht flott dahin und nach 15 Minuten warten waren wir drin.

Schöne Kirche, die zum Kloster von Belem gehört. Tolle Bauweise, filigrane Säulen, tolle Akkustik. Wird leider z. Zt. teilrenoviert, so dass immer nur wenige Besucher gleichzeitig zugelassen sind. Darum lange Besucherschlangen. Aber sehr sehenswert.

No puedes dejar de conocerla, es majestuosa

Uma igreja lindíssima construída no século XVI a XVII. Que faz parte do Mosteiro dos Jerônimo. Quando se entra encontra-se os túmulos de Vasco da Gama à esquerda é o túmulo de Luíz de Camões a direita. No lado norte temos os conficionários e o lado sul as janelas decoradas com vitrais lindíssimos. Quando estiver em Belém também é uma visita obrigatória!

Jeden z kompleksu zabytków skupionych w centralnym punkcie dzielnicy Belem. Tuż obok klasztoru Hieromitów. To właśnie we wnętrzu tego klasztoru spoczywa Vasco da Gama ,wielki odkrywca i podróżnik. Miejsce zwiedzaliśmy w pierwszą niedziele marca. W każdą pierwszą niedziele miesiąca , wejścia do wiekszości obiektów są darmowe. Miłego zwiedzania.

Assolutamente consigliato! Anche solo la Chiesa ne vale la pena! Purtroppo il chiostro chiude presto, alle 17:15 non fanno più entrare nonostante la chiusura sua alle 17:30 in giorni di alta presenza turistica mi sembra indecente...almeno alle 18:30, sarebbe già diverso.

In questa chiesa riposano gli antichi governatori portoghesi, tra cui Vasco da Gama. All'esterno l'edificio è di colore bianco e s'integra nel complesso di San Jerome. L'altezza dell'edificio è imponente. Ci sono molti altari laterali e cappelle decorate. L'ingresso è gratuito. È una meta assai frequentata e c'è un percorso obbligato dall'entrata all'uscita.

Arquitectura impresionante, altísima, alberga los restos de muchos reyes de Portugal entre los que destacan D. Manuel I o Sebastião. También alberga los restos de Pessoa.

I’m not religious, but even as a nonbeliever, the architecture of this church is impressive with its high vaulted ceilings, very elaborate columns, and stunning stone elephants. Worth a visit. (Unlike the monastery, you can visit the church for free.)

A Igreja Santa Maria Belém é parte do complexo do Mosteiro dos Jerônimos. Belíssima! Minha atenção foi toda para o teto. Meticulosamente trabalhado, possui um dos desenhos arquitetônicos mais belos e mais simétricos que eu já vi. Logo na entrada, estão os túmulos de Vasco da Gama e Luís Vaz de Camões.
