We are New Zealand nationals who are retired and in January 2020 moved to permanently live in Portugal. In May, 2019 we purchased an apartment in Tomar, 5 days before we were scheduled to leave for home. We were given Luís’ name as a very reputable attorney. He advised us on the purchase process in Portugal. Because of the time constraints, we left Luís in charge of completing the sale on our behalf; we gave him a power of attorney and all monies went through his office. He handled everything with attention to detail and with our best interests at heart. In short order, we were the new legal owners of our apartment. After returning to New Zealand, we were informed by the Portugal Customs that, in order to receive our container in the country without duty and taxes, we would need an Atestado de Freguesia (official document relating to residency) from the local Junta. There was no way we could manage this from New Zealand (or even if we were in Portugal) so once again we called on Luís for help. This is a tricky document but, with a lot of work on his part, Luís did it for us. Sorted - or so we thought. The next hurdle came when Customs informed us that the Atestado would expire one week prior to the arrival of the ship with our container so we were required to get another Atestado! Once again, Luís worked his professional magic and within a fortnight we had an updated document. To sum up, Luís is the consummate professional, a credit to his profession. We consider him to be our lawyer and have been grateful for all his kindnesses and assistance. He speaks good English which is a huge help when trying to navigate the burocracia portuguesa. We are confident that we have developed a strong professional relationship with Luís and can depend on him for any future legal needs. We highly recommend him to anyone seeking legal services but especially to foreigners who are considering living in beautiful Portugal. We know other immigrants who have used the services of Almeida, Dias and Associates and everyone of them rave about the service received. We want to add here that we would have gladly used the services of Luís’ firm for our immigration visa application but we had already signed a contract with another firm before we had met Luís.
