it was a great meal. staff was friendly and although we die not have a reservation ww waited at the bar for 5 minutes. we tried the pies, professor eggs, and the nisa cheese which was briliant. for main courses we had the curry meatballs(amazin) and the scallops. for desert we had to try the hazelnut(amazing) and the chocolate cake

I came here after trying Barrio do Avillez and its clear why this restaurant is so packed all the time. I'm lucky to be traveling alone so its easy to kind of jam me in anywhere but if you are coming here do take the time to make a reservation. The truffle butter served right at the start is literally the stuff that dreams are made of. Aside from that the rest of my food was fantastic, with the exception of my starter which was the fried green beans, that was just good.

La cantine d’Avillez est ce à quoi je m’attendais, un quasi sans faute selon mes critères. La deco est sobre juste quelques éléments rappellent que l’on est au Portugal. La lumière est un poil trop basse. Le service disponible, super compréhensif. Manque un sommelier peut être. Dans l’assiette tout est impeccable rien à redire c’est très très bon. Variations de plats tradis portugais et internationaux. Ça sera un plaisir d’y retourner.

Fantastic food w/ cozy atmosphere! We had resotto and grilled shrimp and both were well-cooked with great flavor. I think it's little bit salty for me but this restaurant served fine dishes. Dessert and wine were also good.

I have visited this well known restaurant earlier and posted the below review with five stars. But after a few other visits and a very unpleasant experience last night l felt obliged to change the rating and upgrade it. Starting from the mixup with our reservation, and the table we reserved, everything was an unpleasant experience as we took our guests visiting from abroad to give them a nice Lisbon food experience. The cod fish came cold. The salad was inedible. One of the main dishes arrived very late and our friend had to watch us eating while his was served much later. The deliberately mentioned “cold” glass of white wine order came hot and when we said it was not cold the answer was that they did not have cold wine! The service was terrible. We had to beg for salt as the waiter turned her face and walked away when we asked for it. When we made our complaints at the end they said we were right and they apologized but it did not help the situation. It looked like a terrible copy of the restaurant we had been before with no care and the staff was unable to cope with the work. I was noticing the decline in my previous visit too but last night’s performance was really unfortunate in front of our guests. My first review follows below: This is one of the restaurants of Lisbon’s celebrated chef Jose Avillez . It is a good start if you are into discovering the foodie side of Lisbon and also tasting the inventive cooking of local tastes. It is a gastronomical experience with nice flavors. It is obvious that they treat food seriously. It is not easy to find a table so always book in advance. The atmosphere is good and the ambiance is relaxing. Nothing pretentious but chic. Service is friendly. Wine list is impressive. It is hard to find a mistake here. It is also in Lisbon’s historical center Chicado where you can take a walk after your meal to do a little exercise and enjoy the sights or first start with your tour and then stop here to relax over a glass of wine or choose one of their great cocktails.

Mein Erlebnis: zu Beginn möchte ich sagen, dass es ein Restaurant mit unglaublich hochwertigen Zutaten ist. Wir hatten ein Tag zuvor online reserviert und noch ein Tisch für Zwei um 21:30 Uhr bekommen. Der Empfang war sehr nett, jedoch haben wir 45 min auf unseren Tisch gewartet und während dessen hat sich die Warteschlange hinter uns weiter verlängert und einige unzufriedene Gäste hervorgebracht. Der Restaurantleiter hat das wirklich gut gemanagt und jedem das Gefühl gegeben es wird bald. Hier würde ich mich mehr Willkommenskultur über wünschen zB mit Weinangebot, um Wartezeiten zu verringern. Ich kann schlecht einschätzen, ob es an Ostern und der Menge der Besucher lag, aber die Erfahrung des Managements sollte beim reservieren eigentlich solch lange Wartezeiten einschätzen können bzw. sogar verhindern. Danach sind wir an einen zweier Tisch im Restaurant nebenan gekommen,was völlig ok war. Der Service war wirklich gut und aufmerksam. Besonders beim Essen. Wir hatten als Vorspeise das Beef Tatar, welches Sie uns direkt geteilt serviert hatten. Die Qualität und Zubereitung war wirklich gut. Zur Hauptspeise hatten wir den Burger und das portugiesische Pork. Beide Gerichten waren gut aber haben uns nicht so sehr begeistert, wie die Vorspeise. Die Qualität des Fleisches oder auch bei den selbstgemachte Pommes oder Chips waren wirklich gut, aber halt nur teilweise. Zur Nachspeise hatten wir Cheesecake, welches auch gut war aber nicht mehr so Faszinierend, wie der Beginn. Preislich war es es völlig ok, sodass ich sagen kann Preis / Leistung ist sehr gut. Wo hätte ich mehr erwartet: Service zum Einlass (45min Wartezeit ohne Barangebot) und in unserem Hauptgericht (mehr Raffinesse) Ich fand es einen schönen Abend. Würde aber nur für das Tatar wiederkommen.

This restaurant is one of my favorite in Lisbon, for many reasons. First of all, the drinks, wow, pretty good cocktails - the bartender came herself to deliver them, which was also pretty cool. In terms of food, the options are a twist on typical Portuguese flavors, and everything was very good. Tuna tartar was great as well as the pork and the risotto. Place itself is very cool, and has a great ambiance.

The food is exceptional. We had many different varieties of dishes and was not disappointed with the presentation or the taste of all the dishes. Be warned, the portions are small. The only dish that was lacking was the octopus which was too chewy. Otherwise, the service, ambiance, and food was good.

We stumbled across this wonderful spot, whilst eating discovered its heritage and the chef José Avillez. The staff we friendly and attentive, the food wonderful and the space was really cool. Loved it. The steak sandwich was the best I have had. The hazelnut dessert was sublime with the Bual Madeira. Visit!

Maybe it's just us but we won't be back here in a hurry. As I say, please assume that the food we ordered was not aligned with our UK palate (or whatever) but this was the worst meal I'm fairly sure I've eaten in a long time - starters and main, dessert was just OK. Staff were pleasant, atmosphere good, cleanliness, everything else unfaultable but the food was very poor ("Farinheira sausage with corn bread and a coriander crust" - basically sausage-flavoured corn bread, very dry and too salty. "Flaked cod with bread crumbs, LT egg and “exploding” olives" - fishy cod with overly salty, garlic cabbage and undercooked egg with dense croutons soaked in (cooking?) oil. I won't even describe the exploding olives). Sensing our disappointment (or maybe it was the reply to the question of "how was your meal?" of an ill-concealed "terrible") the waiter offered us a free Hazelnut dessert (but this wouldn't extend to the Chocolate cake I'd originally ordered). For a "life-changing dessert: hazelnut ice-cream, hazelnut foam, freshly grated hazelnut and fleur de sel." I can't admit to it changing my life but it was better than the previous two courses although almost identical to a scoop of Hazelnut ice cream with some hazelnut cream. I know that this restaurant has lots of stars and positive comments, which is why I chose it, but I was very disappointed.

Nice food and atmosphere at a good price. The veggie menu had good starters but limited options for mains and fairly boring, though having a choice in Lisbon was pleasure enough! The main menu looked much more varied and interesting. Great wine menu, of course, and nice cocktails. Had a good mix of tourists and locals. Lovely people serving - if a little slow - making for a nice, relaxed feel

Restaurante bem sem graça. Apesar de nos ter sido recomendado, não achamos nada excepcional, pelo contrário. Pedimos o Bacalhau chef da casa, muito sem graça e o polvo, que acabamos devolvendo, por ser incomível. A única coisa decente que comemos foi o sanduíche de prego. Não vale a pena a visita, apesar do ambiente muito agradável.

A revisit to this gem. my 3rd trip to lisbon and as many pilgrim to this restaurant. It does not disappoint. Superb preparation for local seafood and ingredients! Fish soup, as usual, a must have starter for me...freshest saint jacque on avocado...pan seared scallops and octopus...service is top too, without a doubt!

Say yes to the bread service-- really incredible Cocktails were beautiful and well balanced apart from the Porto tonic which could have done with half the amount of tonic water. Starters were stunning (especially the scallops) Bacalhau was the highlight main, to die for. Unfortunately the vegetable tagine was extremely basic and not reflective of the price; missing prunes, lemons and almonds that were listed on the dish. The meal was finished with incredibly sophisticated deserts and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience throughout the evening

Comida maravilhosa, vale as 5 estrelas com certeza. Pedimos um risoto de funghi e um lomo de novilho sensacional, tomamos um vinho quinta das cerejeiras e e quinta da bacalhoa e pagamos 130 euros, achei justo pela excelente gastronomia e atendimento, por ter pedido dois vinhos, levamos um tempo a terminar e pareciam que torciam pra irmos embora, por isso as 4 estrelas.

Cantinho di Avillez ligt in het oude centrum van Lissabon. Erg mooi restaurant waar je echt moet reserveren. Het restaurant bestaat uit een aantal verschillende delen: tapas en vis. Erg mooi opgeknapt met mooie details. Eten is goed/zeer goed. Wij hadden vissoep en tapas, erg goed zeker de exploderende olijven. De gemiddelde beoordeling komt door de slechte bediening. Foute bestellingen, eten wat niet kwam, zenuwachtig, gevoel geven dat je snel moet vertrekken, enz. Jammer want het restaurant is echt top. Prijs is voor in Lissabon iets wat aan de hoge kant maar nog wel prima te betalen.

We went here on a Friday night and had a reservation so it was quick to be seated. The service was great until towards the end of the meal when they stopped paying attention to the table or forget simple requests - like more water. Everything we ordered was pretty much incredible. From an amazing salad - to fried green beans. The mushroom risotto was heavenly and the best prego sandwich in town with an amazing gravy. The wine list was extensive via iPad and the best part was the hazelnut dessert. It was claimed to be the best desert on the planet which may be true without tres leches existing. It was well done and an incredible experience.

The place is respectable — the food was nice and the service was not too bad too. The scallop appetizer was beautiful and delicious. The flaked cod main course - one of the "bestsellers" on the menu - was dry, salty, and not otherwise well-seasoned. The hazelnut ice cream dessert - described as "life-changing" on the menu, suffers form the over-promise: it was good but not amazing. Overall, a bit disappointing considering the reputation and lost potentials.

Nice small restaurant. Open kitchen where they prepared the starters and desserts with a lot a love and care. Serving staff was very friendly and had good knowledge about the food they serve. The card for wine and degestives is on tablet with good info about the type of drink. reservations is not necessary but strongly recommended

I was only in Lisbon for a few days so I don't have much to compare to. This place is considered relatively fancy, and the prices are accordingly. The food was good, but not more than that, and wasn't very spphisticated, which is slightly disappoiting for such a place. The service was professional, and they gladly changed one of the starters we didn't like (it's description was slightly misleading). Expect this a long meal.

Esperava que o atendimento fosse melhor embora não tenham sido antipáticos. A comida era boa mas o valor por prato para a quantidade do mesmo era desproporcionado. Só as sobremesas me pareceram bem servidas. Foi uma experiência pois queria conhecer o sítio mas não é lugar a que vá voltar. A decoração é bem gira mas atenção que o espaço é pequeno por isso cheguem cedo... ou tarde!

Great food, innovative yet somehow they are able to show the traditional Portuguese tastes. The wine menu is electronic and it tells you which kind of food each wine is best suited to, which is perfect for a rookie like myself. Due to a small problem, we had to wait for about 15 minutes for the coffee, but the waiters apologized profusely and the coffee was on the house. Would go back again, to taste all the other food I haven't tasted this time.

Le doy 3 estrellas por que la atención dejo mucho que desear, el tiempo entre las entradas y platos principales fue más de 1 hora, pedíamos algo y se tardaban mucho. Entiendo que a veces ellos están muy ocupados y el lugar muy lleno, pero no entiendo cuando el servicio es extremadamente lento y que los mesoneros y jefes de áreas NO están pendientes de sus clientes. Para mi el servicio es algo que representa hasta un 70pc de la experiencia vivida, es increíble pero es así. La comida de verdad increíble le doy 5: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ muy muy buena, felicito a la cocina; y al servicio le doy 2 estrellas y creo que me paso, sorry ........!!!!!

Palvelu ei todellakaan pelaa. Asiakkaita ei kuunnella (aikanaan turisteja)... Ensin saavumme ravintolaan ja kysymme paikka kahdelle. Vastaukseksi saamme tiuskivan käskyn että odottakaa baarissa. Lopulta pääsimme pöytään ja vaikutti lupaavalta. Siitä kaikki alkoikin... Pöydässä meille annettiin juomamenu joka oli tabletti. Sen käyttämistä ei esitelty joten tutkimme itse ja saimme listattua haluamamme juomat. Sitten odoteltiin. Ja kauan odoteltiinkin. Juomatilaus hävisi tabletilta ja toiveikkaana luulimme saavamme juomista. No ei, tarjoilija tulee kysymään juomat uudestaan (tabletin hyödyntäminen ei onnistunut). Saimme vain alkujuomat ja nekin tuli ruuan kanssa... Drinkit olivat kuitenkin hyvänmakuiset! Sitten saapui ruoka. Olimme tilanneet pääruokalistalta. Näytin tarjoilijalle tilatessani kohtaa main courses josta tilasin. Ei mennyt perille edes ravintolan omasta listasta. Alkupalahan sieltä tuli. Töykeän naisen tuomana. Söimme ruuat jotka olivat hyvän makuiset, maksoimme ja lähdimme. Emmekä mene uudestaan. Jos haluat hyvää ruokaa mutta surkeaa palvelua niin tuolta sitä saa!

My financée and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at Cantinho do Avillez this past week. We didn't have a reservation, but showed up at 7 PM for opening and were able to get a spot without an issue. Yes, this spot is more expensive than others, however, it is MORE THAN WORTH the money. All of the wait staff were kind, polite, and helpful - they made us feel so genuinely welcomed. Our server, Valtar, made our dinner even more special with his 5 star service, knowledge of the menu, attentiveness, and professionalism. This restaurant is a MUST for a special last travel dinner in Lisbon. Thank you Valtar and the rest of the Cantinho do Avillez staff!

Un establecimiento sobrevalorado, de los ocho platos que hemos probado ninguno de ellos ha estado al borde de la estrella. El vino que nos aconsejaron, tanto el blanco como el tinto, bastante mediocres, y aún así hemos pagado 50€ por cabeza sin haber disfrutado. Eso si, el servicio mejor que el chef.

El local pequeño. Oyes la conversación del vecino, sí o sí. La comida, de autor (pero poco). Las raciones, mínimas. Tienes que pedir varios platos para cenar, con lo que te sale caro. Te cobran 6€ por los cubiertos. Y lo peor, el servicio...lentísimo! No lo recomiendo.

In my view, if you are visiting Lisbon, then Cantihno Do Avillez is a must. Jose Avillez has a number of institutions but this one ticked all the boxes for Pam and I. I can understand with all the reviews and articles surrounding this place, that it is easy to have too high a level of expectation, however, my wife who is not given to high praise declared a straightforward meal of scallops, tomatoes, asparagus and potatoes to be one of the best meals she has had in a long time. The flavours were superb, and it is quite a skill to do something quite ordinary, extraordinarily well. This restaurant is, as it says, “a canteen” Canthinho is not pretending to be anything it is not. It provides excellent food at a very good price. We were pleased with everything we had and with the service. Had we known exactly where it was, we could have caught the tram, which only adds to the experience. Would we go back?...we certainly would!

Kaikki muuten hyvin mutta täysin käsittämätöntä miten maksaminen meni. Lasku oli 76 euroa. Annoin 100 euroa tarjoilijalle. Tarjoilija toi 4 euroa takaisin. Pyysin korjaamaan ja hän toi 10 euroa lisää vaihtorahaa. Edelleen väärin. Annoin olla. Toiseksi tilasin viinipullon, jota ei kuulunut. Kun kysyin missä pullo on tarjoilija sanoi, että ko. viini on loppu. Ei vaan kertonut meille! Tartar oli ok. Alkuruoka vähän mautonta, etenkin pavut. Kusetuksesta jää kuitenkin aina huono maku ja siksi ykkönen.

Raios partam... Restaurante fantástico para fotógrafos de comida...mas levem objectivas macro... Pratos excelentes para a fotografia, com empratamentos irrepreensíveis, cozeduras no ponto...mas com zero sabor, em doses micro (ou nano, ou pico, não dá para precisar), a preços giga ou Tera! Safa-se a seleção de vinhos... Que enorme desilusão. O Avilez,....tantos programas, tanta informação transmitida nas manhãs da comercial e afinal... As tão badaladas e ansiadas azeitonas explosivas, que ali acompanham um prato de bacalhau, são... água do fundo do balde de azeitonas maçarico ou coisa que valha. Literalmente! Uns ovos com um torricado de farelo de pão com travo a ransoso... Quase 50€ para duas pessoas. E só porque a refeição foi antecipamente dada como terminada. E atenção que estava disponível para alegremente pagar uma conta de 3 dígitos....que merecesse. E antes de ir ao São Luiz ver o Bruno Nogueira, o Nuno Lopes e outros, tivemos de passar no Mcdonalds do Chiado para comer, não fosse a barriga fazer barulhos a meio do espetáculo. A alma, essa gritava de desilusão e raiva pelo engano....ou traição. É que a promoção é tanta, que se apresenta como uma promessa de verdadeira e irrepetivel experiência gastronómica. Irrepetivel será certamente, que em mentiras só se cai uma vez.

The food was okay - rustic old style Portuguese food. A little bit on the pricey side, but it is José Avillez after all. We ordered a few of the staters and a glass of wine. The scallops were really disappointing. The avocado base with thin layers of scallops on top meant that you wouldn't taste anything but avocado. But really, you could get better anywhere else in town for half the price! The service was shockingly bad in some cases. The person seating people was really bad at managing that area. When we did get a table, it was hard to get served. We were there for about 2.5 hours when 1.5 would have been fine. The barman had to run around and take wine orders from tables in between making cocktails. He should've been just making cocktails. The waiters were running around like headless chickens with poor management and no flow. It was chaos. Won't be returning again in a hurry.

Really great atmosphere and the hostess was incredibly accommodating since we didn’t have a reservation. I have to say I was disappointed in our food. The scallops were thin slices on avocados crema (the crema was delicious). My boyfriend ordered the pork which was perfectly cooked although the chips were very salty. I had the flaked codfish which was in the most popular item, it was salty and overall, unimaginative. It kind of turned out to be mushy. The hazelnut desert was to die for. Very tasty. Overall, I would say that it didn’t meet the hype and it’s very expensive for the food that you get.

Foi o típico sítio que quase involuntariamente e inconscientemente faz o tratamento ao cliente baseado na percepção visual do mesmo, especialmente se o espaço estiver muito cheio e a atrapalhação alguma, reverte-se para instintos básicos. A comida não espantou em nada de acordo com o preço que se paga e depois tive a situação da noite: logo nas entradas, empadas de perdiz, fico com um chumbo preso no dente o qual aviso o empregado e ainda se ri. Claro que não houve qualquer tipo de atenção à situação. No dia seguinte tive de me deslocar a um dentista para o conseguir retirar. Não pedi o livro de reclamações e arrependo-me.

Cantinho do Avillez R. Duques de Bragança 7, 1200-162 Lisboa Ok. Well, this is a "bistro" restaurant owned by a famous Portuguese chef. Supposed to be great. Our experience was not. We waited about 20 minutes to even order drinks. Another 20 or 30 for the appetizers to arrive and finally well over an hour from arrival for the main course. On the plus side, the apps and dessert were excellent. However the main courses were indifferent at best. Vegetables and orange couscous was ok. Scallops were tasteless, possibly even from frozen, and the overall effect was bland. Also we were seated in a corner where the lighting was particularly harsh. Just as an aside my companion informed me there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. I don't know what's going on here but neither the service not the kitchen are performing the way a great restaurant, or bistro, should be. Very disappointing.

Appetizer - good, Main dish - bad (half of the ‘flaky’ cod was chewy and I couldn’t even cut with a knife... something about the fat, but the servers didn’t offer up a new piece), dessert - ok, service - ok. Nothing to write home about. Had a lot better bites of food in Lisbon for a lot less. Unfortunately picked the place to celebrate my birthday so left disappointed overall.

Loved the food! We had cheese and scallops with avocado cream as starters, my partner had Moqueca de corvina (fish and shrimps dish) and I had a risotto for mains. And OMG!! THIS WAS THE BEST RISOTTO IN MY LIFE!! We finished the dinner with the lightest cheesecake and some coffee. Apart from that we were offered to taste different wines. The staff is very kind, attentive and welcoming. The place is perfect for a romantic date.

Great restaurant with local Portuguese cuisine. The staff is great, attentive and service oriented. The chief Aviellez knows what good and fine cuisine means. They have a good menu, good variety of local wines! I enjoyed the food. The risotto (main) was one of the best I have eaten in the last months, fine and toooooo delicious... Need I say more? Wonderful restaurant that honors its reputation. Service is impeccable and the food is something flawless. Don’t expect large quantity but it is worth every penny. O melhor restaurante que já tive o prazer de visitar. Estive em duas unidades do Cantinho do avilez, em Lisboa e em Porto, porém, o toque do chef Vicente, de Lisboa, faz toda a diferença. Pedimos de entrada o Tartar de salmão, Que foi delicioso! Como prato principal, pedi o risotto de cogumelo Champion, que me surpreendeu completamente!!! O MELHOR risotto que já provei. Visited in late Sept. Busy place. Staff were aloof and not friendly. Sat/stood at/near the bar for over 30 minutes and were never asked if we would like a drink, which we definitely did! Marinated scallops with avocado were disappointing; the avocado tasted old and processed. Meagre and shrimp entree was very good. Wine list was excellent with fair prices.

Very disappointed with this place. My Portuguese friend recommended it and it didn’t live up to the hype. We got there 5 minutes late for our reservation which is super typical for Europe. Our table was not ready. Then we were put in the corner and we waited 35 minutes to place an order for drinks and ended up ordering everything at once in fear that we wouldn’t be seen again. We live in Madrid and are used to slow service but not this slow. Our reservation was at 8:30 and on the reservation it said that the table would be surrendered by 10 PM. We didn’t even get our food at 10 PM. We received our food at 10:40 PM. My scallops were not even hot they were warm. The octopus was ok but not fantastic like it should be for Portugal. It took forever to get the check too. 2.75 hour experience and it wasn’t worth it at all. The other two restaurants we ate at in Lisbon were so much better. To top it all off the table next to us that came in at 10 PM finished at 11:15 PM the exact time that we did and we ordered the same amount of food. In a nutshell NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

Nourriture excellente et gastronomique. Voici les points qui ont fait baisser notre cote. L’arrivée était plutôt froid. L’attente entre l’entrée et le plat principal était très longue. De plus, nous avions commandé les crevettes géantes à 39€ l’assiette et la portion de 2 crevettes avec peu de chair à manger était ridiculement trop petite pour le prix. Ils se sont bien repris en échangeant notre plat pour un autre sur le menu.

Small place, not good for groups over 4 people. The hostess was extremely rude, we had a bit of a disagreement because we reserved for 7 people ahead of time and she rudely said they don't take groups larger than 6. Finally the gave us a table and we tried to blow that off. We ordered several.plates, tuna tartare, marinated scallops, the mexican-portuguese fusion tacos and some other plates I van't recall. The food was not what we expected from an Avillez restaurant. Go for the drinks, not the food or the service.

This is a very delicious and popular restaurant located in Lisbon, Portugal. This is one of the restaurants of the chef, Jose Avillez. During the summer and Popular tourism months, you definitely need a reservation here because it fills up very quickly and it’s very hard to get a table if you just walk in. The prices here are a little bit high, but the food is delicious and the service is great and worth it. We ordered the tuna tartare, which was so delicious and well flavored in balance. We also ordered the eggs, which were good as well but not as good as a tuna tartare, and we also shared an entrée, A delicious meatball dish in an herbal sauce. I think three things are enough for two people to share.

Que des touristes ... le seul atout de cet endroit : l extrême amabilité et disponibilité des serveuses . Il y a beaucoup mieux , beaucoup plus authentique à Lisbonne

Awful service. We heard great things and were looking forward to this one most in Lisbon but quite the disappointment. The rissoti was very good. The steak sandwich was average at best. We got three appetizers and all three were very underwhelming. Really not sure how they got a Michelin star. Very puzzling.

Absolutely Terrible! Worst restaurant in Lisbon. Food is extremely overpriced and tastes awful. We went there with huge expectations after reading the reviews online. I ordered the Cod fish which was cold and more like a Caesar Salad with an egg on top, old croutons and 2 or 3 slices of Cod fish the size of a finger nail and 2 olives. The dish is small and is charged almost €20. With extras like drinks and starter, the bill came almost €70 for 2. You can eat amazing codfish half of the price in other places. Service was not great at all and the place is quite small. There are so many good restaurants in Lisbon, so I can only say, please AVOID this trash restaurant. It is def a tourist trap.

Disappointing experience. Food was fine but service was terrible. From the moment we sat down we felt as if we were imposing on the staff. At one point we had to ask three separate times for drinks. The restaurant was packed with 3 servers working a dining room of ~16 2-4 tops and a table of 10 and were completely slammed. When we commented to the manager he was at first defensive (which was frustrating), but did take two drinks off our check (appropriate but not necessary). Truly disappointing- would not recommend.

Had high hopes for this restaurant as it was recommended by a friend. The fish soup was lacking in flavour and the cod fish main with exploding olives was over seasoned. The pork was good but I’m not convinced it goes with the fried crisps. Cocktails were great and I enjoyed the professor eggs and the bread basket was amazing.

We went there during lunch time without a reservation but they had free tables. I must say the reason why i gave 2 stars is not the quality of the Restaurant however the Restaurant in my opinion would also not deserve five stars but maybe four. The Starters were nice and balanced but the main courses left us seeking another thing in the dish so we had the feeling that both the main courses didn’t provide a wholesome tasting experience. The hostess was not welcoming, and impact was dismissive but after sitting down the service was great. After our cocktails, we ordered a shot of tequila. It was poured to a wine glas and served. When the bill arrived we were found out that we were charged 15€ for a shot of tequila. To put this in context, they charge 7-12€ for a cocktails that also has a good amount of other costly ingredients and the same amount of alcohol. A bottle of this tequila costs 15-20€ (Olmeca is one of the low end tequilas) and we basically paid for the entire bottle while drinking just one shot. No matter how fine the Restaurant may be it can not mark up alcohol 15:1. Could they sell you a 100€ bottle of wine for 1500€, i guess not? We complained to the waitress and wanted to talk to a manager but she informed us that there was nobody we could talk to there. This left us feeling frustrated and ripped off. We found this unacceptable and would never go there again.

We have been lucky enough to eat at fantastic restaurants in many locations around the world over the last decade. With a 1 year old and a 3 year old we have never experienced the level of care, compassion, and service that we had at this place. Not only was the food world class, but the service was beyond excellent. We were a walk up family with young children early in the evening, reservations were booked through 1030 PM, they could have easily turned us away. Not only did they take us but they gave a level of service that is rare these days. Go here, the food deserves a Michelin star, the service is even better.

I would give no stars if I could! The evening at the Cantinho was by far one of the most disappointing meals I have had in a long time. I am normally not the person that writes reviews online, but after this experience there was no way around it. We chose this restaurant to celebrate the birthday of a friend after hearing so many good things about it. We are all real foodies (with my dad being a Michelin starred chef) and we love trying exciting restaurants everywhere we go. However the disappointment started at arrival. We were greeted in a manner that wasn't just lacking enthusiasm - it was simply RUDE! The front of house should seriously consider another profession if customer service is such a burden to her. Having booked for 6 and arriving with 7 guests was such an inconvenience for this incompetent lady that she let us wait 30 min at the bar and then reluctantly leading us to a table - making clear they don't have room for 7 people. Trying to make the best of the situation we ordered drinks at the bar which took so long to make that we ordered a bottle of wine in the meantime!!! The food was average at best and not what we've experienced in restaurants such as Mini Bar or Cantina Peruana. The service at the table continued to be rude. The staff has obviously not been told to say please and thank you! It ended up that the whole group was put off by the atmosphere and the meal left a very bitter after taste. The cherry on top of the ice cream was when the waiter tried to make a joke bringing us fruit salad instead of creme brulee as a dessert - because at that point we were ready to cause a big scene about how terrible the whole evening was! All in all a massive disappointment!!!! I would not recommend it. It's really unfortunate given that all other restaurants of Jose Avillez were absolutely fantastic! But the whole experience depends on the staff and customer service.

A éviter absolument. Très cher et rien à retenir. Très déçu par ce restaurant. Pour commencer, quand vous arrivez, on vous fait patienter obligatoirement au bar alors que votre table est déjà prête. C'est une technique pour vous faire consommer un cocktail en attendant. Ensuite, le comportement des serveurs est exécrable. On vous parle à peine. Alors que l'on parle Portugais. Aucun conseil et à aucun moment on vient nous demander si on a besoin de quelque chose ou si le repas nous a plus. Dans un resto aussi cher c'est inadmissible. Le pain était mauvais et semblait être surgelé. J'ai pris en entrée le tartare de thon. Ce plat était bon. Sans plus. En plat, nous avons pris la morue et le porc noir. Les 2 plats était insipide. Sans aucun gout. Le porc était extrêmement sec. Presque immangeable. Et les frites n'étaient même pas digne d'un mauvais fastfood. Pour une entrée, 2 plats et 2 cocktails= 70 EURO Un scandale pour une qualité de cuisine et de service aussi mauvaise. Je ne mettrais jamais plus les pieds dans un restaurant de M.Avillez.

I was a bit embarrassed at this place as it was quite swanky and my 2 year old wanted to touch everything. Or cry! The staff were lovely though. After he knocked the water over they cleaned it up with a smile. While he tried to play with the till and the card machine the bar man let him (a little) and offered him cranberries. In the end my husband and I had to take it in turns to stand outside with him as he just wanted to run. Anyway.....the food. Amazing!!! I had fish soup followed by the pork. The pork melted on your tongue. It was delicious. The fish soup was lovely and beautifully served. I had an aperol to start and if it wasn't for my 2 year old I would have liked to drink it before my food came and then order wine. But it was a bit rushed. I was able to drink the aperol while both courses and bread and olives to start were served. Not sure if they picked up on our need to rush because of child. But would definitely go back if I had a babysitter.

El local está de moda y sin duda sobrevalorado. Ni la cocina, ni el sitio merecen tan buenas opiniones desde mi punto de vista. El recinto muy pequeño (las mesas están excesivamente juntas), muy oscuro y ruidoso. El servicio regular, comprensible ante la poca movilidad y espacio. Y los platos pasables y completamente olvidables. Lo mejor las lascas de bacalao, aunque sin pasarse. No lo recomiendo, sobre todo con la buena gastronomía que hay en Lisboa. Caro para lo que ofrecen.

Cantinho do Avillez was everything I was looking for. I visited the restaurant with a friend and we have both continued to praise the food, ambiance, and service since we left. Our order was: Appetizer: Empadinhas de perdiz Tártaro de atum com sabores asiáticos Pisco Sour Main: Polvo do Algarve a batata-dolce de Aljezur Carabineros de Algarve com molho Thai Quinta do Gradil - Cabernet Sauvignon - Tinto Roriz 2015 Dessert: Bolo de chocolate à CANTINHO com gelado de morango Cheesecake enfrascado con framboesa e manjericão Mint Tea The staff/ambiance: We had dinner reservations for 10:30pm and when we arrived, we waited at the bar and ordered some drinks while our table was prepared. Once shown to our seats, the staff greeted us and were very friendly and attentive throughout the night. They would be very professional whenever we interacted but also amiable. They often would confirm everything was good and it was done in a genuine manner, not an overbearing one. They also would speak to us in English and Portuguese to accommodate the fact they heard my friend and I jump in and out of conversation in English and Portuguese - I was impressed by this because (even though simple) it shows attention to detail on their behalf. The section of the restaurant we were in was next to an open kitchen. The lighting set for a very personal atmosphere and the decorations were modern and traditional. I was very comfortable and really enjoyed the ambiance. Food: The food was amazing. The flavors were always present and bold but never overbearing. I would highly recommend both of the appetizers but especially the tuna tartar; it's is one of the best I've ever had. The combination and sensation of a cold tuna tartar and warm empadinhas could not have paired any better. For the main course I had the carabineros and my friend the polvo. Again, both dishes were amazing. I don't like sweet potatoes but the restaurant did an amazing job of preparing them for the octopus. The carabineros were very tender and served with a zesty sauce that accompanied the dish very well. My only reservation was the portion for the carabineros. If I were to do it over again, I would have gotten another dish simply because, even though it was delicious, I felt the value did not match the price. The wine we ordered was dry, bold, and smooth. It paired very well with our dishes. For dessert, the bolo is a slice of cake served cold accompanied by strawberry ice cream and the cheesecake was more of ice cream texture with whipped cream, not a slice like traditionally served. Both were very good. However, I would recommend the bolo over the cheesecake. The mint tea was also refreshing and helped bring an end to all that we has just eaten. You need to visit and try the food. It is delicious. Overall, I'm very satisfied and happy with the value for the meal. If you're considering this restaurant, definitely go. Does a satisfying job of giving you quality food and service for greta value, with the exception noted above.

Unfortunately, the restaurant did not meet my expectations. The food was served cold. The portions are small. The food was ok for me, but not very good. The restaurant is very small and the seats are not comfortable. But the cocktails were very delicious. Dessert was very unnecessary, so you can really save yourself here. Leider hat das Restaurant meine Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. Das Essen wurde kalt serviert. Die Portionen sind klein. Geschmacklich war das Essen für mich okay, aber nicht sehr gut. Das Restaurant ist sehr klein und die Sitze sind nicht bequem. Die Cocktails waren dafür sehr lecker. Dessert war sehr unnötig, also kann man sich hier wirklich sparen.

As in any other Avillez's restaurant, the food is great, and the staff is well trained and welcoming. Whoever, I consider that the dishes were undeserved. I couldn't stop feeling disappointed with the amount of food served, it felt like a children's size dish. It is expected to want more of such marvelous food, but not in this fashion. It feels overpriced given the alternatives in the city. I love the food (can't say that enough), but the amount of food/price ratio is not fair for Portuguese standards.

We passed by at lunchtime and they had a few people waiting for a table despite restaurant being half empty. They asked us to wait too, not saying how long it will be. The entire staff was going around the room very slowly setting up tables, and once they were set - checking the set up. With only about ten tables to attend, and half of them empty, they were unbelievably slow. We should have left then, but were finally seated and then had more excruciating wait to get the menus. We finally ordered and naively expected our drinks to arrive soon... Twenty minutes later we just stood up and left. The food looked good but we just did not want to wait for an hour at lunchtime and every step seemed to take ages.

Cosy, super friendly, fast service (3 course meal in less than 1 hour) and great food. Intimate table setting in small bistro with 5 seats at the bar. The service was fantastic and the menu varied and interesting. The food was fresh, imaginative and good. The only thing letting this place down is the possibly the toilets that have not yet achieve the same level of care and attention as every other other aspect of this restaurant. Would go again ...and again!

Enjoy your lunch at this restaurant! I for sure did. All servings where pleasure. Starting with delicious bread, butter flavored with truffle, tomato mouse or olives. Soup from chestnut combined with amazing fennel in correct amount was hard to resist. I almost licked my plate.. (I did not, home: I would). And octopus with sweet potato mash, basil and sweet little tomatoes. Feast and celebration of real flavors and good product. Who needs crazy sauces when food can taste this delicious? As desert: my favorite creme brûlée with little kiss of orange flavor. I walked out with smile on my face.

I wish I got a chance to come back here. This is Heston Blumenthal meets simple country faire style cuisine. Be prepared for lots of unusual flavours, so not to everyone’s liking, and lots of truffle aromas. I opted for the octopus with sweet potato and my dining partner got the meatball green curry. Each one tasted divine. Keenly priced for what is essentially a Michelin Star chef’s pet project.

Decidimos pedir Tartar de atum e Ovos à Professor do séc XXI, muito saboroso e leves, em seguida experimentamos Vieiras e Tagine de Cordeiro e finalmente mas não importante a sobremesa com Avelã e Cheesecake framboesa. O vinho escolhemos pelo tablet do restaurante que mostra as combinações ideias. Um jantar sensacional. Vale a pena irem!!!

We went to Cantinho do Avillez twice during our stay in Lisbon. First visit was perfect - the food as well as the the waitering. But the second time the waitering was not quite as perfect. We got our drinks a bit late and for our desserts we had to ask for the drink that one of us ordered after we had got everything else. The food was still quite good though, perfectly prepared.

Cantinho do Avillez faz parte do grupo de restaurantes do chef José Avillez e este é de comida portuguesa com influência de viagens, achamos mto interessante o conceito. Pedimos Tartar de atum e Ovos à Professor do séc XXI, kkkk deliciosos. Depois Vieiras e Tagine de Cordeiro. Por fim, sobremesa de Avelã e Cheesecake de framboesa. Tudo é muito delicado e delicioso. O vinho é escolhido com um tablet que contém as informações do vinho e com que comida do restaurante combina, mto legal! Pedimos vinho verde e um vinho tinto q eles estão desenvolvendo. Jantar demais!!!!

Atendimento fraco. Metade do tempo não conseguimos ver sequer o funcio ario devido a uma parede que separa a sala da copa. As entradas são excelentes. Os pratos são despretensiosos ficando no entanto a desejar em qualidade. Nada de mais. Há dezenas de restaurantes com qualidade vs preço bastante melhor em lisboa.

Hemos decidido visitar gracias a las opiniones que leímos... hay que reservar!!! Una vez allí, el restaurante es pequeño y las mesas están muy pegadas unas con otras, ideal para los que le gusten conocer gente nueva y compartir asuntos en la cena/comida. Fuimos para cenar. La iluminación es escasa, así que iros preparados jejeje. El bacalao que probamos no nos gustó, sabia a salado... pedimos una iscas de verduras de la huerta...una pena de calabacín rebozado muy aceitoso!!! Ha sido una cena final de viaje un poco decepcionante dado EL precio de la cena y la calidad de los productos. Puede ser un sitio de moda, pero no repetiremos.

The food is not bad but don’t believe the hype. Considering the Michelin star chef behind this and the pricing there are sooo many places you can enjoy in lisbon. don’t let the name fool you, it does not put anything authentic to the table... perhaps in time the attention to detail faded away after opening one too many restaurants

Surpresa do dia... e muito positiva. Espaço aconchegante, serviço simpático e cuidado e a comida foi a certeza que valeu a pena... Desde as entradas ao prato principal e claro a sobremesa, tudo muito bem preparado.

The good: all the starters plates were fantastic, the rest of the food was above average, The bad : extremely bad service, waiters do not pay attention, drinks come late, and you have to beg to get them again, not a place to have a great gastronomic experience in Lisbon... My visit was Jan 02, 2018.

Local muy acogedor y moderno. El personal es muy atento. Comida tipica, muy buena con ingredientes frescos y de temporada. Buenisima la tartar de atun y el bacalao. Lo unico es el precio, un poco caro para los estándares de Lisboa

Antipasto di tonno in conserva fatto in casa molto buono. Carabineiros di altissima qualità; tajine vegetariana ben fatta. Dolce torta al cioccolato con porzione e presentazione deludente. Vini al calice abbordabili. Locale semplice e accogliente, servizio da perfezionare. Cucina espressa un po’ lenta ma ambiente piacevole.
