Nothing to say but spectacular! Small crew rocks a Portuguese menu with Japanese inspiration. Tasting menu is a steal and the way to go for sure. Very well executed and I will definitely return!

Amazing menu, Japanese inspired Portugese fusion. Go for the 10 course taster you won't be disappointed.need to book. Often you will share tables with others which is nice. May have to sittings, 7pm and 9pm, best to get early o e if dint want to wait around for others to leave. Great value. Couldn't reccomend enoigh

Coup de chance, il restait de la place pour une reservation a 21h30 ! Le service fantastique de Filipe et la cuisine exceptionnelle traduisent une volonté de nous partager au mieux les spécificités de la gastronomie locale, travaillée par leur soin. Je préfère m’arrêter là pour ne pas vous en parler pendant des heures, je suis convaincu ! Wij hebben het 10 teasting menu genomen en hebben alle streekproducten geproefd waar zij mee werken. Uiteindelijk zijn het 14 gangen geworden heel goed eten, met liefde bereid voor weinig geld

Na taberna do mar a sardinha assada vem no nigiri, o molho desta na tosta de pão artesanal e o xerém, meu deus o xerém. Filipe Rodrigues recebe-nos em sua casa com cuidado e atenção e num dia calmo é como se jantasse na nossa mesa. Passeamos pelo Gunkan de pickle de abóbora e carabineiro que explode na boca, o sashimi sempre surpreendente fumado na aroeira era hoje de tainha imaginem só, piscamos o olho ao torricado de pickle de sardinha. Enfim ficamos de voltar rapidinho.

Favourite new restaurant in Lisbon. Have been there once with friends and then I took my mother. Well priced set tasting menu consisting of 10 plates, or order everything a la carte. Concept is that each dish is shared if you are more than 1. Makes for a really lovely, relaxed atmosphere that focus' on quality & service. It's also well decorated & the staff are so attentive and friendly. love it!

They thrive on being able to interact with the guests, even if a guest doesn't speak Portuguese- so you don't have to be Portuguese to be totally immersed, informed, and gain insight. If you are in Lisbon and enjoy eating freshest seafood- want to personally meet two very well-known passionate chefs, and gain insight and understanding into Portuguese culture- well you better stop into Taberna do Mar.

Staff super simpático e prestável. Comida fantástica! Sabores únicos! A não perder: niguiri de sardinha, atum curado, shot de cavala, sashimi de peixe bonito...Tudo excelente! Apesar do foco ser o peixe, o facto de terem uma ementa variada, também nos possibilitou saborear uma carne maronesa super tenra e saborosa! A repetir!

Went there yesterday with 3 more friends and... what an amazing experience! A small cozy restaurant with some familiar vibes. The tasting menu is around 8 dishes full of surprises and with an extraordinary good quality. The service is on point, every dish is explained with love and commitment and the wine options and suggestions from the staff were also very good. It's good to be taken aback with experiences like these. It's essential to book a table.

Simply amazing, in every sense of the word! Small and cozy place, the service is polite and knowledgeable. The food is simply out of this sea!! Portuguese flavours at their best, with spectacular ideas and talented execution! OMG I'm still processing all the amazingness in a single dinner... Absolutely must return!!

Awesome experience to finish off our stay in Lisbon. Our server/chef was amazing. Omakase style for the tasting menu, food had lots of depth of flavours. They also made a simple dish for my daughter consisting of fresh fish and rice which also tasted amazing. Simple fresh and delicious. Do the tasting menu, a bargain for what you pay. Would definitely come here again if I headed this direction again.

Just came out from the restaurant and couldn’t wait to post this review. The 25-euro tasting menu blew our mind. We’ve dined in many Michelin star restaurants around the world and this one can definitely compete with most of them. The Chef casted magic over very simple ingredients and the taste was unexpectedly amazing. We loved every single dish. Our favorites are the sashimi, sardine nigiri, fish beer, ox tongue seaweed dumpling ( and the dipping source is a killer!), mandarin ice cream and creme brûlée of sea fennel!!! We were really impressed by the chef’s creation. It was such a memorable evening.

What an increadible place, simply blew my mind. The imaginative cuisine, inspired by southern Portuguese dishes and Japanese cooking techniques was a revelation, the tasting menu for €25.00 was a steal! I cannot recommend it enough. We happened on it by pure serendipity, but you should seek it out!

You must visit there if you like sea food in Lisboa! It was great tasting and staff was so kind! I enjoyed 10 course of sea food and order extra 5 course. The price also reasonable. I would like to visit again if I come to Lisboa again.

After looking on internet where to have a special dinner in Lisbon we decided to try A taberna do Mar. Very soon we realised that it was a fantastic choice. There are quite a few dishes in a similar format as japanese shusi but we think that getting "menu degustacion" is by far the best choice. Basically you get 10 dishes carefully selected so you get the whole experience. It costs 25€ per person (drinks not included). Felipe was explaining to us the details of every dish when served so the customer can understand and feel a bit of whats behind the dish. At some point we got lost of how many dishes Filipe served us (the vino verde might be the culprit) but we spent a bit more than 2 hours from first dish to last dish (last two are desserts). Its clearly a MUST on your visit to Lisbon, really, I can't enphasise this enough. In the end we paid 72.5€ for menu degustacion for 2 + a bottle of vino verde (really recommended) but spending 2 hours eating a nice food in a nice restaurant with great company is priceless. Will come come back in the future and that's for sure. Fran and Maria

Cucina eccellente. Provato un menu con 10 piccole prelibatezze e tre portate di media grandezza sempre ottime. Cucina di pesce a base di baccalà, sardine, qualche piatto tipico tipo il Kerem e un paio di microrivisitazioni di sushi.

We had the most delicious meal here! The place is cozy and lively, with delicious fish-based food combining old family recipes and international influences (Japanese, etc), with a modern spin. The service was excellent! We tried the pairing menu which was outstanding. Highly recommended.

The staff was welcoming and reasonable. We walked in just after they opened and fortunately got two seats without reservations (don't count on this). The tasting menu was amazing and almost entirely sea-based. The chef shared personal history and methods. The drinks blew us away and we left feeling like we found a hidden gem. Go here, trust the staff, don't be afraid.

Great dinner! I never thought you can have fish.... As dessert! We had the DEGUSTACIÓN. By far it was a great choice. The food is superb. Cozy atmosphere. Lovely place. They have two shifts.... 19.3hs and 21.3hs. They only take Portuguese cards.

If 6 stars were available, I would give it. There have been very few times in my life when I walk away from a dining experience and am personally moved by it all. Philip or Felipe and his tiny but mighty team pulled off a perfect evening. He is an artist and authentic host who pours his soul into his creations and he wants everyone to enjoy it. There is no pretentiousness as he explains what is set before you in the visually beautiful 10 plate tasting menu. He boldly reconstructs recipes but using only things that come from the sea and are local. He gives instructions so as to maximize your enjoyment of each dish. He deliberately wants a small location so that he can keep the personal touch to showcase his consumable art. And, to keep his kindness to others accessible, he keeps his prices much lower than what he could charge otherwise. I watched as some would-be diners passed by the humble restaurant and I pitied them for their loss. A friend recommended this restaurant and I owe them my thanks. To Felipe, I owe my respect and admiration for showing how food and hospitality can be done at the highest level for everyone to enjoy.

Wow. What an experience. Wish we'd found this place before our last night because I'd probably not eat anywhere else. We had 12 courses of brilliance, a superb bottle of wine, and met some lovely people. If you're in Alfama, it's a must visit, you won't be disappointed.

Fusion food done right!!! I am a picky eater but this place has won me over. We had the tasting menu, 1 bottle of wine and some shots (which were pretty strong, but sooo good). I think everyone here has said it already, but I have to tell you that it was the best meal we had in Lisbon. We had a new favorite each time a new dish came out, and towards the end of the meal, I really couldn't pick my favorite because everything was just really good. Phillipe did a great job in giving recommendations and also sharing stories about each dish. We thought the food presentation was excellent already, but he added an interesting fact about the dish that just made us appreciate it even more.

Wow! Absolutely fantastic experience through and through. Put yourself in the chef’s very capable hands and get the blind tasting menu. Every single dish was creative and delicious, and we left feeling blissfully full. Particular standouts were the ox tongue dumpling, the fried tuna, the sardine toast, the smoked sashimi, and the blackberry cake dessert. Highly recommend food lovers make a visit and definitely recommend making a reservation.

This has been the best meal during my three weeks in Portugal in terms of inventiveness, cooking quality and bang for the buck. The tasting menu is the way to go to try this blend of Portuguese and Japanese cooking techniques and ingredients.
