Beco Cabaret Gourmet is celebrity Portuguese chef Jose Avillez’s newest and, by many definitions, most ambitious endeavor. Avillez has always emphasized dining as an experience, and here—it’s located in Bairro do Avillez, his restaurant complex—the concept is dinner and a (burlesque, adults-only) show in a space that harks back to Hollywood’s Golden Era. Neither the show nor the food is an afterthought; rather, they work in unison with one enhancing the other. A tasting menu offers the best of Avillez’s sophisticated fare, all meticulously prepared to surprise and delight, like minced brined apple inside a rose and ceviche with edible flowers. The suave staff is veritably part of the show, with expert timing and tons of charisma.

I brought my boyfriend as a surprise for his birthday and I left not feeling good about the experience. Food was great, comedy was okay but it's literally cabaret for the men! I felt like the performances were not balanced for men and women guests. As a women, I felt like the entire performances favored and was really for the men. One of the dancers kept flirting with my boyfriend, even at the end of the show, eyeing and winking at him. It was just too much. The extra mile of flirting was just uncalled for. Not how I want to be leaving the dinner. The food was great but we didn't get the menu for what we were actually eating until the end of the show. We were guessing the entire time.

As expectativas em termos gastronomicos eram elevadas, nessa vertente ficou aquém do esperado, a carta de vinhos podia ter mais opções, o espetáculo é muito bom, o serviço e a simpatia é excelente. Valeu pelo conjunto. Se vale o dinheiro? Nem sim nem não. P.S. O café horrivel e mesmo assim cobram 3€.

High expectations set by my previous experience from the famous Portuguese chef. I have to admit: there was a disappointment. Idea of cabaret and dinner is great. (But not new) Performance of artists was nice. Engaging the audience in perfect manner doing their job perfectly. So did the waiters. Perfect timing, engaging conversations, good information. But to dinner you come for food. From 12 servings I expected all perfection. It was not. We did enjoy most of it and pared with wines. 4 of the dishes where more on the level of mediocre restaurant.. for promise you make and price you ask you should deliver above 100%.. Hopefully this formula will not become quick money maker where cabaret and food will become a grotesque

Hands down the most spectacular experience I had during my trip to Portugal. Everything is jaw dropping, from the show to the service to the food itself. Book in advance, you won’t regret it.

An amazing experience. The dinner show is simply flamboyant, entertaining and takes you back to different decades. Jose Avillez' team puts together an excellent dinner. The service is great too. Our host Caterina was so charming, she made our evening that much better, the menu is full of surprises and very inventive matching the show. I have eaten at Belcanto before and there are clear influences here. You will not leave disappointed.

Essen bei Avillez ist immer besonders. Das Ambiente mit Cabaret muss man mögen. Eventuell etwas laut, da man sich in einem alten hohen roh gemauerten Saal befindet. Excellentes Personal! Portugiesische Weinspezialitäten auch im Glas herausragend. Die Speisen ausserordentlich schmackhaft. Ein Muss wenn man in Lissabon ist.

Great value for money, the food is excellent! The show was not exactly what I expected from something called "cabaret". It was mostly singing. Which was very enjoyable and impressive but I expected more dancing and more impressive costumes.. the performance attire consisted mostly of evening longish gowns. You are allowed to take pictures without flash but no video. I was surprised that you take pictures but it was lucky as the food is beautiful and you need to take pictures of the dishes! The food certainly outshines the performance and overall it is a good experience and good value for money. Happy I did it but wouldn't go again. We arrived 5minutes before they recommend you arrive and they left us waiting in front of the door (pictured) for 15+ minutes. No offer of a refreshment, just a waiter telling you to wait over there by the foot of the stairs. That could be done much better and much less awkward. We were a group of 10 people hanging about by the stairs. Please consider offering refreshments or atleast a seat at the bar to future visitors.

Magnificent, BEST meal and experience of my two week vacation. I purchased tickets ($250 Euros) a couple months in advance hoping to try Portugal celebrity chef Jose Avillez menus. This is his newest venture. 14 course tasting dinner and live entertainment. A tidbit: The chefs' great great grandfather opened the most elegant of clubs back in the 1900's, and BECO is inspired by its glamour and sophistication. Beyond my expectations from the very beginning. As we make our way into the address given on site, it is in the very back of Bairro do Avillez, behind a hidden secret curio cabinet cupboard. Think of it like a 1920's speakeasy. Glamorous venue, dimly lit. Unbeknownst to us, we are greeted by the hilariously rude (an act) master of ceremonies posing also as the maître de. He looks me up and down and looks at us with disdain (only because he turns 4 guests in front of us without advanced tickets away with a "shhhhaaaa". I mention we have a reservation, and he retorts with a snarl. Oh do you? I am loving this. His act is on par! We are then sat at a table close enough to the stage and in front of a faux dressing/powder room stage. About 20 tables in total, and only one reservation per evening, promptly at 8:30M, don't be late. André, our server from India, was helpful and very nice! They do not reveal the tasting menu ahead of time, so prepared to be surprised. If you any allergens or dietary restrictions, let your server know ahead of time, and they are very accommodating. I am allergic to capsacin (the seeds inside peppers). My only upset was that I wish I had requested a table closer to the stage, I was stuffed in the corner by the ladies powder room stage, and hard to see in front of the table in front of, I was dodging and sitting up in my seat often. (I'm 5'3). Our dining experience: The show, in between courses: Talented actors, engaging, and even stopping at our respective tables here and there. A bit risqué, but I loved every second of it. The show does not distract from the food, it's all part of the experience! 1. A beautiful centerpiece of a rose, and soft delicate apple inside! 2. Sunroot and mustard seeds. Crunchy thin root chip with exquisite filling. 3. Beet "taco" held by a clothes pin with succulent fresh tuna, avocado crema and coriander. Perfect bite. 4. Olive oil "ravioli", if you've seen molecular gastronomy, this is something fun. One gulp, and "squish" explosion in your mouth. 5. Foie gras with cotton candy and lyo raspberry. Super fun play with the candy! 6. Coastal prawn ceviche and flowers with yuzu honey, tigers' milk snow and lyo corn. Ceviche was born here. 7. LT yolk, artichokes, parm, and truffle. Every texture in the book. Plus shaved truffles. Yes please. 8. Tagliatelle with giant prawn, fennel, and caviar. Pretty dish, the seafood was perfectly cooked and firm to the bite. I didn't love the pasta. 9. Snapper (they served oxtail, but I'm allergic to hot peppers, so this dish was changed out), this was tasty enough, but I hear the oxtail was out of this world. 10. Mon Chēri, a frozen treat of what appeared to look like a cherry, but it was not. But, it was good! 11. Strawberry, chantilly cream, basil ice cream with a tuile basket on top. I think the chantilly was frozen with nitrogen, and the basil ice cream was super refreshing. 12. Diamonds are a girls best friend. Very cutesy, I think it was lemon sorbet in the shape of diamonds. 13. Lipsticks made of a fruit sorbet. Also, classy and creative. 14. Chocolate Pearl, served in a clamshell. Cute, but just a piece of chocolate. NOTE: drinks are not included in the price. A few of them tasty, but a few of them not as good. Spent an additional $45 EUROS on 3 drinks and water.

Wonderful dining experience in an intimate ambiance. A stream of delicious and extraordinarily creative dishes, beautifully designed and presented that will surprise and delight your palate. Very good service. The show is a stream of good quality vignettes. Beverages are not included so overall it is pricey but worth the very unique experience. Note: you have to go through the entrance to Bairro Do Avillez to get to Beco, which made it tricky to find.

Fantastic dinner experience. Find it hidden away in the back of two other restaurants. The cabaret has a small audience making this a lovely intimate experience. Once you are seated the tasting begins. It’s mostly in English with some Portuguese introductions and songs. Some of the reviewers noted that this show was really more for men and some customers expressed moments of jealousy. The show is slightly different every night and we felt none of those things. If anything we were disappointed at how tame it was. The tasting menu was delicious. Every item creatively presented and quite delicious. Check out the pictures but they do not do it justice either. We got the wine pairing which was also really nicely done. We tried some uncommon Portuguese wines that so far (after a week in the country) we have not had a chance to try. If nothing else, the wine somm (gentleman with the 3’ braided dreadlocks) made the wine and evening experience unforgettable. Lots of great conversation. This seems to be a place not just for tourists but seemed several locals were here for special celebration. Be sure to tell them about your celebration and you might be in for a treat!

Não deve ser avaliado como um restaurante mas sim como uma experiência , é que experiência ! A todos os níveis quase perfeita , desde uma degustação com cerca de 15 momentos a todo um glamour indescritível, com a luminosidade certa, e claro o principal... um espectáculo muito burlesco que nos transporta um século atrás. Só o final é que podia ser mais imperial, mas foi apenas bom. Uma experiência sem dúvida a repetir, não tão breve porque tem um custo elevado ... mas um dia. Aconselho vivamente

Comida fantástica, feita, servida e acompanhada por excelentes profissionais. Enganem-se aqueles que pensam, tal como eu, que o centro da noite será o espetáculo, pois assim que as iguarias começam ser servidas tal ideia se dissipa por completo. Experiência enriquecedora, que vale aquilo que se paga, e mais qualquer coisa, ainda para mais não sendo algo tão comum no nosso querido país.

Great experience, great show, great food but not all of them in my personal opinion but they were flexible with what you can and can’t eat so that was a plus. There was a misunderstanding in the beginning I was told to just wait by the door but wasn’t told it was a one by one to be let in and seated so I just followed a group in front of me in it was awkward because after they were seated I was still standing there waiting until someone noticed me I just wished there was a clear in communication from the start it wasn’t organized but they do deserve for their service and friendliness (Beco’s staff only.) and overall I did enjoy the time there.

came with a lot of expectations, after reading positive reviews. First, you can't find the place because there is no sign on the door. inside it is a nice place with approximately 30 places. starting with the food, the show starts at about half a hour later. very special dishes, not usual, some will love, others not. the show is a collection of some cabaret songs, performed by only 4 performers. no main story, no ‎continuity. the dishes is served without any timing and with no connection to the show. wine or any alcoholic drink is with charge. even the water was with charge, although we asked at the beginning and they told us it is free. it is not a cheap show - 125 Euros for a person (weekend). not a bad show, with a potential to be something really special, but definitely doesn't worth the money.

A magical dining experience. The entire team: the performers, the wait staff, and the kitchen work together so well. They care about their guests experience. They enjoy and take pride in what they do. The food alone is worth admission. Playful and with a narrative.

Everything from the interior, dishes, presentation, staff - incredible. The food was by far some of the most unique in terms of presentation and flavor. I personally thought the show was great- the timing was well balanced so you could focus your attention on the food and the show when necessary. They engaged the audience and were true entertainers. I saw reviews about how it’s too male focused before I went... Yes, ladies - this is a Cabaret!!! So if you’re the jealous type, don’t go. Also, I want to mention that we were waited on by multiple restaurant staff; all of which were very attentive and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a unique food experience in Lisbon.

Go here; do this! One of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve ever had in every way; just genius!

I have never bothered to leave a review of anything before but forget the cost the food was simply mind blowing. The wine not quite so. The cabaret promised more than it delivered and was a bit repetitive but the dining experience was just amazing. Go for that alone.

Okay so this place was amazing. We were lucky enough to get a chance to do it when they weren't open yet and were doing test runs. We had a great server and loved the interactive stuff with the other performers. The food was every bit as good as his other 2 star Michelin restaurant that was nice enough to get us into this spot. If you do only one fine dining experience in Lisbon make sure this is it if you want dinner and a show. Sorry no pictures because they were still doing trials. Thank you to the manager at Belcanto for our chance to try it out before the rest of the world.

Awesome experience! Definitely come here for a special night out in Lisbon. Tucked away you feel like you have been taken to a prohibition-like era. From start to finish everything was exceptional. Friendly staff, great drinks, and amazing food. All dishes I loved, and just the right portions! The performances are well spaced out so you have time to mingle at your table still. The only thing is 1 month in advance we requested a nice table near the front but then actually got seated at the furthest table in the back. Whatever though, we had a great time!

Sooo after hearing all the hype and reading the amazing comments about this place, I was very happy to be able to book in a table. After experiencing Beco, I honnestly an surprises of the amazing comments, though I understand that a certain type of audience could really get worth of their money. Food was good, very creative and presentation was fun and unique. I’d give it a 4/5. Service though was absolutely terrible - i’d give it a zero if I could. The waitress we had was nice but alright - no smile, no explanation, and if you try to ask for stuff you get the “Sorry I dont’t speak English”. I mean come on guys - they are truly the ones ruining the amount of work behind the plates, by being so non chalant. Also, they seemed under staffed, and felt pressured the whole time, even though it didn’t seem like there was any manager in this place. You wait foooorever between the meals (literally forever), and when they arrive, you just feel like the waiter is serving as fast as possible to move on to the next table, and serve the same exact thing. Doesn’t feel good, doesn’t feel natural. No smile, no dreams, you’re just one of the thousands who tries the menu every single night. About the show? Alright but nothing special - it’s your regular cabaret night, with some good singers/dancers but nothing that could justify the hype or mystery around this place. The only bit of mystery is the menu, since you don’t really know what you’re eating until end of the meal when they give you the full menu. The show and overall experience was my biggest dispointement because they build out around a strong mysterious concept, which is nothing more than a cosy room with dim light, a tasting menu that you discover once in the place and some singers that tries to be sexy and sing/dance. The +: the bar is gorgeous, food super creative with a fun presentation.

We visited from Canada during our honeymoon in September. The atmosphere was electric, the food was sumptuous and adventurous and the talent of the performers was incredible. The chef was so kind to accommodate me being vegetarian and my husband being a meat lover. We had separate meals that we both loved. We continue to dreamily recall moments from that dining experience and wistfully talk about our favorite songs and our favorite courses. Thank you so much for our wonderful experience. If we are lucky enough to return to Lisbon we will be back to Beco ready to add to our wonderful memories.

Uma excelente combinação entre um menu de degustação e um espetáculo com visual anos 20 mas música e dança mais actuais. Ambiente intimista. A porta simulada por uma estante dá acesso a uma linda sala. O atendimento e os artistas são extremamente profissionais mas com aparência informal. Para quem puder e tiver curiosidade no conceito vai ser sem dúvida uma lifetime experience.

O preço é idêntico ao belcanto. Apesar de estar incluído o espetáculo que é muito agradável, pelo preço prefiro o menu do belcanto

O Beco is one of chef Jose Avillez entrepreneurial successes. Once you pass the secret door in the end of the Bairro do Avillez complex, you are transported to an intimate location reminiscent of the Prohibition time in an art deco bohemian style. The amusing and talented cabaret performance is accompanied by a 12-course menu which presents well-made dishes (yet mundane tastes) unwrapped in inventive and delightful forms. All in all, an unforgettable dining experience embellished with an entertaining performance. Or vice-versa.

This is very expensive but the food was presented in a way that was really clever and exciting, but if you aren't hungry or don't like fancy/conceptual fine dining then maybe not for you. The show was good fun to watch alongside and I was more than happy to spend the money in the end.

Tremendous experience. We were recommended here for a special night out in Lisbon on our honeymoon. It was a fun, quirky and unique foodie experience. Go hungry because the meal is in 12 "moments" and expect to be there 4-5 hours. Dinner was a bit pricey but overall with the "show" was worth it.

Beco is ingenious. It is what every dining experience will strive to be in 10 years from now. It's invigorating, delicious, playful, interactive, and even though it's white glove and the service is perfect, it's somehow unpretentious. The food is exceptional. The staff feels like family. The show melds together in a perfect symphony of fun and game. All the while, you're having Belcanto-esque food in an unforgivable environment. This is the most disruptive restaurant to the Michelin guide I've seen. It will change dining because we, as millenials are turned off by long pauses and stuffy service. Thank you, Jose and company. I hope to see this style replicated in New York.
