Beautifully designed rooms. Supremely comfortable beds. Central location and nice staff. A few kinks to iron out, being a new property. Breakfast was a bit confusing as you have to fill out a form which is open to interpretation ( 2 eggs or 2 orders etc ). Did not like the coffee or the strong scent used in lobby, but overall a very unique and comfortable place.

Loved this property unique experience with helpful staff. One of the best places I have stayed in regards to friendliness and helpfulness. We enjoyed the beautiful room and library sitting area. The bed was comfortable and loved the decor. Great location within walking distance to the river front and the Wineries . Great suggestions for food from all the staff. It was a delight I will hopefully get the chance to return soon.

El trato del hotel ha sido excelente,debido a que Expedia no hizo constar que estábamos reservando en otro edificio del hotel que no era el palacete,tuvimos una desagradable sorpresa al hacer check in pero el Director del hotel resolvió ofreciéndonos otra noche en la suite principal a un precio inmejorable.Hemos disfrutado de una estancia de lujo en un Hotel con un interiorismo maravilloso

Excelente hotel, pequeno, tranquilo, super bem localizado, quartos amplos e bem decotados, muito confortáveis. O restaurante de tapas é muito bom com ótimas opções de vinhos. Os funcionários são muito simpáticos e bem treinados. Recomendo fortemente o hotel, ficamos muito felizes de ter estado em Porto e ter nos hospedado no Torel 1884 Suítes. Somos um casal e filha de 17 anos e fizemos todos os passeios por Porto a pé saindo do hotel.

Me and my family found the restaurant by chance and I have to say it's by far one of the best meals we've ever had and they most definitely deserve a Michelin star!

Really beautiful and comfortable. The interior is chosen with so much love. Many details in the different floors together with the charme of a very old (but beautifully modernized) building make this hotel one of the best I have ever seen. The staff is very nice and is very eager in explaining to you the best restaurants and sights in town. A very charming place to stay!

What a beautiful hideaway in the centre of Porto and close to the river. The team here eat, sleep and live the meaning of real hospitality. They are warm, welcoming, super helpful especially when our bag was lost by our airline and that's all before talking about the stunning historic property and attention to detail. Didn’t stay here but we had a look round - incredibly friendly concierge gave us a great tour. The hotel is amazing. We stayed at PortoBay Flores (which itself deserves a 5 star review, but rooms are a bit small) but if we visit again we would definitely stay here. Photos don’t do it justice.Very elegant and spacious. Five star feel. Apparently the most requested regular room is 10, for suites it is rooms 1 and 2. For duplexes it is 8 and 9.

We have had a super three night stay in Porto. What made our trip special apart from the stunning old town are the people who are so helpful and friendly. All the team at Torrel 1884 have been superb without exception.The hotel is in an amazing renovated old bank building, done with style and class . Our room (10) was stunning and great value for the quality. Very comfy bed, lovely decor.The hotel is well placed for all central sights and less than 5 minutes walk from the MetroMany thanks to all the team. Highly recommend a stay here!

This was an absolutely exceptional hotel. Luxurious and comfortable beds and bedding. Very clean and modern still with charm. The staff from the cleaning staff to everyone at the front desk was marvelous. They had great communication with us helping us with tours, dinner reservations and more. It was a sensational stay and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I could not imagine a better location as well.

We were in the Chilli room, which was beautifully decorated and very spacious. Great location for exploring Porto and Gaia. Service was excellent.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in January to celebrate my birthday.The hotel is in a great location, we walked everywhere.We had a room on the top floor (10) which was really spacious and gave us access to the lovely library.The best thing about the hotel is the staff. They really go above and beyond. They made me feel so special on my birthday and nothing was ever too much trouble. The breakfast is really varied and I like the fact that you can choose what you like to reduce waste. The staff really felt like family. The manager and his team are doing a top job. The only slight suggestion I would have is that the bathroom is a bit too dark so it was difficult for me to use the mirror to get ready. However, the hotel did supply me with a table mirror to use. The other suggestion would be to have more storage in the bathroom for toiletries etc. Apart from that, everything was fab and we can't wait to visit again. So glad we stayed at Torel 1884!

Torel 1884 is a wonderful boutique hotel with historical charms that lie in the heart of charismatic Porto. Location wise, it is a short 5 minute walk to San Bento station, virtually across the street from the entrance to Rua das Flores, and casual stroll to the Ribeira.We were very fortunate to be upgraded by the front reception to Room 9, the Tea Room, a two-layered suite that is beautifully decorated. I especially loved the green tiles in the bathroom and the brass finishes. Probably due to the age of the building (it originally housed a bank), there were a few problems with the hardware. For example, the leveling of the shower room was not ideal, so water would seep through and wet the floor of the bathroom. The hotel should be able to fix this issue. Another issue was with the heating (it did become quite chilly during our stay). Warm air rises, so the bedroom on the upper level became quite stuffy and warm, not really conducive to good sleep, while the lower living level was still quite chilly. These were the only two inconvenience we experienced. Otherwise, the decor of the hotel would take up at least 200MB of your camera phones storage. Particularly, the young staff were wonderfully cheerful, helpful, and welcoming (I was pleasantly surprised that so many young people worked in the hospitality industry in Porto). They work really long hours, but always gave us the feeling of genuine hospitality. Breakfast at the Bartolomeu was delicious and an elegant affair.

Outstanding hotel. The room decor was stunning. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The library was charming and a beautiful place to sit and relax. The location made it simple to get to the train station and we were able to walk just about anywhere else. Highly recommend.

We stayed at this hotel for our Christmas holidays, for four days. Everything is wonderful at this boutique hotel, the staff are friendly, interior design is magnificent and breakfasts are delicious. We love the place. Eventhough the room we got didnt got a great view, but the interior make up for it. Love the location. Very convenient and accessible. The staff was helpful and ready to assist.

Would stay here again and again! Very much recommend as an option for families, couples, or friends. We had a large group staying in multiple rooms at the newer apartments (not the historic suites main building which is more expensive), and the hotel staff were kind enough to put us in rooms near each other. All the rooms were gorgeous, with great views of Porto (especially from the top floor), and included big bathrooms and kitchenettes and living areas, which were amazing. We wished we could've stayed longer to enjoy it more. You also get a free drink voucher when you arrive, to use at the bar at the main suites building, and you can explore the library at the main building which is beautiful. It only takes about 4 minutes to walk from one building to the other, if you're split between the two.

Both the main building suite and apartment unit were great. The rooms are even better than the pictures on the website. The staff is an asset and their attention to detail made us love Porto more. It would be a pleasure to stay at Torel again.

We booked one of the apartments located a street over in a private building. Very tiny place but had all of the conveniences needed. Best thing about Torel 1884 was the service! Every single staff member greeted us cheerfully and were welcoming and helpful. Our check in staff members were so lovely and it was like we arrived to be met by family instead! Really lovely hotel too at least from what we saw of the lobby and the bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Old world charm that has been gleaned from an ancient building with lots of history. But we'll forever remember the kindness of the staff here! Muito obrigada!

The staff were marvellous. We booked a spacious apartment but would have liked better bedside lights and more bathroom shelf space. Looked forward to using the outside jacuzzi but disappointed that it only remained warm for about 40 mins. In other words, you had to decide in advance when you were going to use it, ask the staff to heat it, and then be unable to use it again without asking again.

Hotel was central to shopping and eating and sightseeing.We stayed in suite 4 on the 1st floor with an American birds theme. Beautifully designed and decorated. Huge comfortable bed. Complimentary toiletries, water and Nespresso coffee pods. We stayed in November, we had particularly cold and wet weather. Our room was very cold if we didn’t have the heater on. The whole hotel was unique, very beautiful and unusual furnishings. Breakfast was to order the day before and the food was delicious. All the staff were so helpful and accommodating and spoke very good English.

Great place! We were assigned to an apartment which was nice because it had a bathroom, living room area, and a bedroom. The beds were comfortable! I kind of wish we were assigned a room in the main hotel though because we had to lug our suitcases to the apartments which was 5 min walking distance from the mail hotel. The staff were extremely nice and friendly and upon arrival we were given welcome drinks (wine of our choice). The parking is a little bit of a hassle. Other than that, great place.

I can not say enough about how much we enjoyed this hotel. From the moment we arrived outside the hotel to the moment we left the service was above and beyond expectation. The staff did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and we appreciated it very much. They made us feel appreciated and like they really cared. We felt like it was a small family and we were part of it. We stayed in a deluxe room with a bathtub and it was beautiful. Everything was very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable. We loved the little touches like keeping the original doors and locks on all of the rooms. This hotel is working to keep Portugal's past alive and vibrant. We will not stay anywhere else in Porto.

The atmosphere makes you feel something like the great Gatsby and the rooms are so beautiful and well kept with a great staff 24hrs a day they helped us find dinner and gave us a welcome drink! Splurge on it you won't regret it!

The overall experience in his Hotel was disappointing. The tasty decorations and helpful staff members could not compensate all the negative we experienced in 5 days here. On the pictures everything looked good, but in reality it was not. We paid ca. CHF 600.00 for 4 nights and got a bad experience here. We had every night loud noises, either from the streets or from drunken guests. One night a group of drunken people made noise on our floor. Ricardo, the Portier, could not manage, from 24.30 until 2.00 to solve this issue. It was loud like in a pub, one guest was very agressive. Another night we had ugly canalisation smelling coming from the shower. The old windows did not isolate and cold air came in. Plus different other inconvenient things happened. Having visited different real Boutique Hotels worldwude, we cannot find Torel 1884 being on the level they should. Big potential which is not realised at all.

My family stayed here for 3 days while visiting Porto for the first time. The service and friendliness of the staff was exceptional. Everyone was helpful with recommendations on what to do and where to eat. They also made it fun for my 4 year old by giving her an activity book and her own toiletries. Would definitely stay at a Torel hotel again.

e stayed in the newer apartment building which was very spacious and the bed is quite comfortable if you like a firmer mattress. The apartments are new and are missing a few import and amenities like a full length mirror and usb charging ports to save you needing an adaptor just to charge a phone. Service is excellent they go above and beyond and really make you feel welcome. They are happy to make dinner reservations or book tourist trips at reception with good recommendations as well.

We had a slightly negative start and I spoke to Dominguez the wonderful manager who did everything he could to rectify the situation and we had the most fantastic stay. Beautiful hotel, staff who can't help enough and a vibrant city to boot. Thanks Dominguez your thoughtfulness made our stay perfect. Highly recommended.

Our stay at this hotel was an impromptu one as our flight was cancelled. We had the room for two nights after having stayed previously in the Foz district. I wish we had stayed here the entire time! We stayed in the apartments on the third floor. Walking up the stairs to the third floor was easier than getting up the hills to the restaurants in Porto so not really an issue. The rooms are modern, bright an very clean. The apartments themselves are less than a year old so that probably helps. Our room had a vaulted cieling and three different air conditioners so everyone can set the temperature to their liking. The apartments are on a really cool, pedestrian only street that has a tonne of options for food. The staff were really friendly and really helpful. The central location to everything is amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our "bonus time" here. Definitely recommended and 100% would come back here again.

Such a beautiful, elegant, professional, safe, friendly, and clean hotel. The bedrooms are large with high ceilings. There’s about 12 rooms so you get top notch service.

We stayed in appartments a street away ..well furnished ..and quiet at least at the back. Staff very helpful in main hotel .

Exceptional service and stunning decor. Attentive staff was awaiting our arrival and secured our baggage while we were approaching along the sidewalk! Every attention to detail is on target to providing incredible memories for a phenomenal experience. We were pleasantly greeted by Celia at the front desk for a flawless check in. Celia was thoughtful and helpful in facilitating a hair appointment and made great recommendations for the area. The manager, Gonzalo, was encountered while walking about the hotel and he approached us and introduced himself and offered any assistance the hotel can provide for an enjoyable stay. He is obviously attentive to the hotel operations and was encountered several times, working the reception desk, and in the restaurant in the late evening. Gonzalo offered several excellent suggestions for dining and wine tasting locally.
The restaurant staff, Isaura, Vanessa, and Rafael were wonderfully attentive without being over board and everything we were served was delicious and was plated beautifully. Overall this was an exceptional opportunity to stay at a beautiful hotel with top notch loving staff. We will look forward to staying here again and bringing more family and friends to this hidden gem!
