This is a great hotel, one of the best I have stayed. The pool is number It’s a saltwater swimming pool. It’s so big and it’s saltwater. It feels like swimming in the ocean. The deep end is 4 meters deep ‍♂️. The staff is so friendly. The food is delicious and so many selections. Everyday the buffet changes. Very clean and a great beach. The hotel manager was friendly makes sure all guests are happy with their stay. Suites are beautiful. Bedsheets and towels are good quality. I definitely recommend to stay here a week and just explore the Algarve

J'y suis resté quelques jours avec des potes et on a adoré, avec une accueille chalereuse et un staff qui parle bien le français. Les chambres etaient impeccables et la gastronomie excelente avec des buffets a themes et un bon choix de vin. Un excelent endroit pour pratiquer son swing. La plage et a deux pas Et on a directement acces a partir de l'hotel.On a moins profiter des piscines mais rien a dire sur les peux de fois quon y est allé. Un de mes pote a trés apprecié les cours de yoga et moi les massages et piscine interieur. On se reverra surement l'année prochaine. Continuez comme sa!!

Betten hart und die Federn deutlich spürbar ; Schimmel in Bad (nur übergestrichen) ; Schimmel in der Küche (nur übergestrichen) ; mückenplagen ; für Kinder von 1bis3 Jahren nichts dabei nicht mal nen babypool oder irgend was in der Richtung ; Vorsicht auf der Anlage viele Stolperfallen (Pflastersteine die herausragen) ; essen reichhaltig und lecker; die Lage ist klasse ; Strand sehr schön Kommen nie wieder sorry

Definitiv keine 4 Sterne. Wir haben einen Double Deluxe Raum über Tui gebucht. Das Zimmer entspricht dem nicht. Man kann sich kaum drin bewegen. Der Fernseher entspricht einem 22 Zoll Monitor. Das zusammen geschobene Bett geht immer auseinander und man rutscht in den Spalt. Essen:Das Fleisch ist fast immer zäh und daher ein echter Beißtest. Der Rest ist ok. Hierfur werden bei nicht Buchung 25 Euro berechnet. Bei bei Buchung 20 was es nicht Wert ist. Draußen kann man besser essen und für weniger. Hotel ist old school vom Style was was dem einem gefällt oder nicht. Lage top am Strand. Rollstuhlfahrer oder Leute mit Kinder sind schnell genervt von den vielen Treppen ohne Rampe Personal ist top und Super hilfsbereit und freundlich. Definitiv keine 4 Sterne für den Preis egal zu welcher Zeit. Eher 2 bis 3 Sterne.

Die Toilette lässt sehr viel zu wünschen übrig: die Tür total vergammelt, unten fiel auseinander. Das Bidet kann man praktisch nicht benutzen, denn es wurde so angebracht, dass nur ein Kind benutzen könnte, so nah an der Wand, rechts und vorne, die Handtücher haben schon bessere Tage gesehen.

Ein phantastisches Hotel mit super freundlichem Personal. Alles ist sehr sauber und das Essen in Qualität, Vielfältigkeit und Abwechslung kaum zu übertreffen. Von der sehr großen und top gepflegten Gartenanlage besteht direkter Strandzugang. Wenn man sich irgendwo erholen kann, dann hier. Preis/Leistung ist hier sehr gut. Absolut empfehlenswert!!!

Staying in a one bedroom standard villa that can't have been updated since the 1960's and the same goes for the toilets and showers at the pool area very retro , disappointing for the money we spent wouldn't say the apartments are 4 star can't comment on how the hotel rooms are though

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Meer und hat eine wunderschöne Gartenanlage mit Pool, einen Indoor-Pool und einen netten Spa-Bereich. Das Haus ist doch schon sehr in die Jahre gekommen und - ob seiner Größe und des daraus resultierenden Troubles - für einen erholsamen Urlaub weniger geeignet.

Beautiful hotel, we stayed in the villa's, which where quiet nice but the beds and sofas weren't the best. The ground between the villas and the hotel could do with upgrading, quiet dangerous to be honest,also around the children's pool a lot of loose tiles and trip hazards. Staff were lovely and it's a great location.

My wife and I spent 6 nights in the DJII Pestana hotel and had a lovely time. The hotel is located on the beach front - exit gate, cross boardwalk, and you are on the beach. The facilities are fine - it is not what I would call luxurious, but it is clean and has everything you need. The pool is salt water and cold, but also clean - we did not venture into the indoor spa. The room we booked was the entry level room and it was small, with a very small balcony overlooking the garden. Everything worked as expected and we had no issues. We did book a double and it turned out to be a twin - which wasnt great. Breakfast is a buffet style with fresh fruit, cold and hot buffets, and you can have fresh omelettes and pancakes made while you wait. The location is a nice walk into Alvor center, either via the boardwalk or the road - there is a supermarket 100 yards from the hotel too. Alvor has plenty of nice restaurants with reasonable prices - there are bars that serve standard beer for 90c, and others that serve craft beer for over 5 euros a pint, so choose wisely. Nice place for a couple or for golfers, but not so sure my teenage boys would have had enough to entertain them.

Everything great about this place except room always warm. Complained and front desk said central a/c which working everywhere and room warm because of location. Did not move for second night because it would same area and probably another warm room. Not worth effort.

Todo o pessoal é muito prestável e agradável. Gostei da limpeza , do pequeno almoço e das refeições leves servidas nos bares da piscina e da praia. O espaço do jardim é paradisíaco. De todos os hoteis Pestana que tenho frequentado considero os quartos bastante exiguos.

Very good service and very well cleaned and maintained hotel as a whole, although it is not a new one. Nice long sandy beach is right in front of the garden of the hotel. It would be nice to have ventilation in the bathrooms and some tea/coffee making facility in the room.

Stayed at this hotel several times. It is ok but not 4 star. The breakfast experience (self service) is awful with queues at the coffee/tea machines, omelettes and other items. The tea/coffee is luke warm and vile. The rooms are seriously in need of refurbishment

Stayed there last year in cottage. Cottages are cramped and uncomfortable. Hotel indoor pool was ok, but not very warm. Nice beach, but still recovering from last year's storm. They're moving sand from other parts of the beach to restore what was lost.

Only problem we had was that the 'hot' food was never hot apart from the soup, which lets them down, as the hotel is really nice and the grounds and facilities are top notch. The staff were also really helpful and kind couldnt do enough for you. Would certainly go back.

The hotel and staff are really nice. Everywhere is clean and spotless. My only disappointments were the food and lack of tea/coffeemaking facilities in the very nice room. The restaurant buffet dinner meals were not hot and sometimes cold. Not impressed with choice and sometimes ran out of items by 9pm. Breafast was fine. Desserts were nice and I filled up with these having eaten little of main course. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful.

Os preços das bebidas são elevados (3,50 por uma água com gás de 200 ml e 20,00 por uma sangria inteira). Ainda assim recomendável.

Stayed here for one week in the villa. We were four golfers. Staff could not have been nicer, especially Mikela who looked after us as her top priority. Nothing was a problem. Breakfast was fantastic, great selection to suit all. My only tip would be to have a separate hot water dispenser to avoid the lines for coffees. We will definitely be back again. Great facilities, pool, sauna, steam room. Highly recommend. Great location by the beach and only minutes from the town.

Great place to stay if you want to flash your toilet with a bucket. Low water pressure on the top floor. They don’t manage their car park and it is a busy area so you’ll never find a space to park. The indoor pool is nice and clean and full of unattended children jumping into it. The management seems to mean well but not knowing how to execute any actions. Real shame as the place has a great potential. Btw they don’t seem to see any difference between double and twin bed so a big no-no for romantic getaways.

Apos uma estadia de 3 noites só posso dizer que ao jantar a oferta foi a pior comida que alguma vez comi num restaurante, com excepção do atum a algarvia. Cheiro a esgoto no quarto. Excelente localização. Hotel claramente a necessitar alguma manutenção. Forte desilusão tendo em conta que pertence ao grupo Pestana, o que nos fez optar por este hotel, mas saímos claramente com a sensação de termos sido enganados.

We chose to upgrade the room and had a sea view from the top floor. The views were amazing and the small balcony had the sun from midday. The rooms are on the small size but adequate, the safe and hair dryer is a good addition. Buffet breakfast has a good selection also eggs,pancakes and omelettes can be freshly cooked. Table tennis table on site is useful.

Great location, buffet breakfast can be cold so a little disappointing. Did not get the room we paid for Deluxe Sea View all we could see from it was a roof line and was told we had to pay to upgrade to a better one (see photo) did get moved but to a side sea view and although it's nice it's not what we paid for.

Great hotel and good location just a few feet from the beach and a short walk from Alvor. Room nicely decorated. Staff polite and friendly. It would have been nice to have had coffee making facilities in our room. My only real complant is the breakfast. It was a nice spread, something for everyone but on everyday the hot food was cold.

Hotel muito acolhedor com boas comodidades. Staff muito simpático e disponível, pequeno almoço maravilhoso com produtos muito variados, muito perto da praia e dos passadiços de Alvor (ótimo local para correr e passear até no inverno), ginásio com vários equipamentos, piscina de água quente sauna e banho turco. Tudo muito limpo. No geral a decoração precisa de ser revista, muitas alcatifas e cores que já não se usam mas não tiram a qualidade do hotel. Ao jantar a ementa nunca batia certo com os alimentos que disponibilizavam mas era tudo muito bom.

Sehr schönes Hotel direkt am Strand! Sehr hilfsbereites Personal. Das Hotel bietet tolle Ausflüge, für einen angemessenen Preis, an. Der Außenpool ist leider mit Salzwasser gefüllt, aber es gibt auch einen Hallenpool, der mit Chlor gefüllt ist. Wir waren rundum zufrieden mit dem Hotel!

We have enjoyed our resent visits to the Dom Joao 2016 and 2017 . We were a group of 4 on a golf holiday so we're out most of the day. I have read some negative comments about the food but we all enjoyed the choice at breakfast. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening. It is a great location , on the beach and only a short Wark to the village of Alvor. This year we are a party of 6 travelling in April and very much looking forward to be there again. (Sea view rooms please)

Gutes Hotel in Top Lage. Aussicht bei einem Zimmer mit Sea View fantastisch. Morgenessen-Buffet gut, Buffet am Abend etwas fantasielos, so dass man sich rasch entscheidet, eher im nahegelegenen Dorf zu Abend zu essen. Zimmer tip top, ausser Badezimmer: etwas schummrig. Im Zeitalter von LED-Leuchten wäre eine hellere Ausleuchtung des Badezimmers wünschenswert. Aber das schmälert das Ergebnis kaum. Wir kommen vermutlich wieder ! Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis stimmt !

Pleasant stay.. Although very poor selection of vegetarian meal options. Pool was a bit cold even though it was indoors and inadequate changing area. Receptionists were very good and helpful.. I believe it would be even better during peak season as right now everything is closed during off season.

Not a great experience really. Rooms are like rabbit hitches even what they call "Delux" rooms. Miserable and unhelpful receptionist. This hotel is certainly not suitable for wheelchair users even though they say they are. Greatly located.

Check in..can be slow..the bar area is also slow...but my room..4th floor and the view were delightful..breakfast was great..and the grounds and gardens were very well kept..the outdoor pool..which is huge..should definitely be heated...it's not...overall a lovely 6 days..with fabulous weather in January 2019

Disappointing. Questionable practice of charging €25 for buffet if you walk into the restaurant but offering at reception €20 if you buy a voucher up front before going to the restaurant to eat. Why do you play with your customers like that? I've stayed in hotels in a range of countries and star rating and never come across this practice. Also room service menu terrible selection and bar menu terrible selection. We would simply not recommend. Turns what should have been a relaxing break into a money pinching stress ride. Room reasonable but not coffee tea facilities - you have to order room service €3 for coffee plus €5 fee for room service. We have no problem paying for service but do expect selection and value for money. Would not be staying again.

Quartos e alguns equipamentos dos espaços comuns evidenciam um desgaste elevado devido ao uso excessivo tendo em conta a procura de massas em época alta. Necessita claramente de obras de renovação. Durante a estadia tivemos um problema de segurança: Um outro hóspede entrou no nosso quarto enquanto dormiamos (uma falha grave que invadiu a nossa privacidade e poderia ter sido bem pior se acontecesse noutro momento). No nosso quarto há uma torneira na banheira cujo manipulo de abrir e fechar e de regular a temperatura da água está solto e separado da estrutura, bem à mostra das funcionárias da limpeza para que seja feita a reparação, mas até agora permanece conforme estava. O tripé da TV não segura o peso da TV e ela fica inclinada para o chão. Tirando isto, adoramos a localização, o pequeno almoço, o minigolfe, e o facto de o piano estar disponível para os hóspedes. Voltaremos seguramente assim que renovarem o hotel.

OMG no words. The worst place i have seen in my whole life. My cat has a better place to sleep. Seeing is believing. The pictures on the website or anyother site is all lies. The night manager was actually trying to act funny. When i asked to relocate he said the whole place is booked. And he agreed that the room he gave us was a dump. The date i booked is 06 nov 2018. I am feel8ng sick to my stomach. Most disgusting unbelievable seriously. Only if i could post pictures on this reviews.when i told him ill fill the red book eg complain book he said yes sure. I could go on and on about it. The word Disgusting would be offended if i used it for this room.

Nice hotel, well placed for the beach and just a short walk into Alvor. Food was good although a bit repetitive in some areas and not always very hot. Very clean rooms but you need to be on 3rd floor or above for a good sea view. Overall a nice place to stay.

Nettes Personal, gutes Frühstück, gute Lage. Etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Hier und da sollte Renoviert werden. Die Zimmer sind gut, das Bett bequem. Zur Straße raus zu laut, oft reisen Gäste Nachts ab. Abend Buffet nicht zu empfehlen. ( also wirklich, nicht dazu Buchen) besser in den umliegenden Restaurants essen. Der Garten ist wunderschön. Sprechen Englisch, Deutsch, Französisch... also wirklich viele Sprachen.

Jahrelang ein Geheimtipp.Jetzt in die Jahre gekommen. Wird billig angepreist dem entsprechend auch das Publikum. Das Benehmen einiger Männergruppen ( Golfer ) lässt doch sehr zu wünschen übrig. Bleiben ewig beim Frühstück sitzen, sind sehr laut und viele glauben sie sind alleine da. Die Feriengäste müssen warten bis Tische frei werden. Das Hotelmanagement greift hier leider nicht ein um die Wartezeiten zu verkürzen. So kann einem der Urlaub schon vermiest werden....

The check in staff at arrival were very helpful and spoke extremely good english - The Villa we stayed in was very tired and had quite a bit of damage in the kitchen - it was however spotlessly clean. The proximity to the beach and boardwalk made up for the lack of luxury. The hotel had a heated indoor pool - sauna and steam room which was lovely - we never ate at the hotel but did eat at the beach bar and the food was very good. Supermarket 300yds from Villa .

Our stay at this hotel has been the best experience overall in Portugal! The room was very clean and well presented, the breakfast has plenty options such as: Cakes, hams, cheeses english breakfast, really you will find your perfect breakfast. The facilities are very good especially for the good price we paid. Swimming pool indoor and outdoor, SPA, sauna, steam sauna, beach in front of the hotel with a kiosk and sunbeds for the guests are available. Really enjoyed our stay at Pestana, for sure when I ll travel again to Portugal i will choose them!

Foi tudo muito bom. Os quartos sao limpos e modernos. O pequeno almoço tem muita variedade (doces, salgafos, frutas e omelete e panquecas feitas na hora). Goed resort, ook voor golfers, heeft voor 5 golfplaatzen toegang.... in het hotel zijn nog enkele kamers aan renovatie toe, hoorde ik. we waren in een bungalow , ook villa genoemd. het was perfect ingerichte 50 meters naar het strand.,ingerichte keuken, terasse met liegbedden tafel en stoelen dagelijk schoonmaak. aan het strand hier waren eettendjes voor de lunch, en ook voor dinner, strand stoelen met zonzegel Eten voor iedereen wat, maar we waren naar de Hafen van Alvor , met taxie voor 5 Euro.... veel vers vis en fijne sfeer

schönes hotel, perfekte lage. Könnte mal eine Renovierung gebrauchen. Gerade das Treppenhaus und die Flure. Essen abwechslungsreich und meist lecker. Leider nicht immer sehr frisch. Untypisch ist, dass man an jedem Abend seine jeweiligen Getränke zahlen muss. Alternativ soll man vorab 25€ pro Person und Nacht bezahlen. Die älteren Kellner sind nicht immer die nettesten aber okay. Eine kleine Cola kostet 3,5€, ein Bier 4€, das ist ziemlich teuer. Außerdem fehlt zum Frühstück Gemüse. Hier gibt es zu wenig Auswahl. Anlage aber sehr gepflegt und direkt am Strand. Transfer besser nicht über das Hotel buchen. Hotel verlangt 68€, mehrere Anbieter in Alvor 54€. Bei der Plastikverschwendung könnte das Hotel mehr tun, gerade weil sie beim Abendessen auf Verschmutzung der Meere durch Plastik hinweisen. Strohhalme, Joghurtbecher, Butter in Plastik, Shampoo, etc

This hotel is in a beautiful setting and the inside is just as good. The only criticism I have, is that the corridors leading to the bedrooms really need to be redecorated! Orange carpet, dark wood, and a bad smell isn't going to leave a good impression. It's a shame because the rooms and the common areas in the hotel are great! Spotlessly clean. And the staff are outstanding! Would absolutely go back, even with the bedroom corridors as they are.

Estive nas instalações de 26 a 29/02, e tenho a comentar o seguinte: O quarto bom de espeto, o que tinha era muito cheiro a pó devido a alcatifa que estava junto cama, a porta da casa de banho por dentro estava cheia de pó, tive de a limpar com uma toalha. De resto tudo limpo. As senhoras da limpeza devem ter em atenção estes pormenores.

O hotel é antigo mas o staff é muito atencioso e as adaptações feitas para pessoas com mobilidade reduzida são bastante boas, passei 5 dias neste hotel e correu tudo muito bem, eu dependo de uma cadeira de rodas não tive qualquer problema de movimentação pelo hotel, os quartos adaptados são bastante espaçosos e confortáveis, os elevadores têm um tamanho bastante bom para uma cadeira e os elevadores adaptados perto das escadas são bastante bons também, não tive qualquer dificuldade em aceder à piscina ou ao spa.

I went there twice in winter and will return in February. I think the hotel was built around 1970 but has been renovated. The breakfast is o.k., the staff is very friendly. Price in winter is good and the location to the beach and to Alvor just fine. Rooms were quiet. No big noise from neighbours. Only downside: Full payment on arrival. I do not like that.

It was dreadful yes it was clean but the towels were of white supposed to be white some with large holes in them , breakfast was alright only had cereal and toast, dinner at night was dreadful reheat following night pigs cheeks my goodness who has even heard of them , reheat rice hard vegetable though meat burnt ribs how many chancers were cooking in the kitchen calling themselves chefs, had to eat out most of the times, I have noticed that you only answer the good reviews are you ashamed , thank goodness we found a few great restaurants in Alvor to eat in . Jet2 reps should try this dreadful food and report there findings back to head office, a lot of your guests must be very easily pleased to except what you have on offer, Shona Welsh 2weeks holiday at this Hotel November 2019.

The hotel is nice comfortable and clean, the breakfast are standard fare for this type of hotel (when you want a proper full English go to the Phoenix in Alvor, proper sausage and bacon). The pool is good but the spa is not great steam room not working and no water for the coals in the sauna. The best thing about the hotel is its location right on the beach with the boardwalk giving a great alternative to walk into Alvor which is a fantastic resort town

Hotel is right next to the beach with a restaurant/bar located on the main walkway to Alvor. Ten minute stroll to bars and restaurants located along the other end of the beach, with beautiful rock formations and access to a hidden restaurant in the cove. Taxi rank opposite hotel carpark and shuttle bus to Portimao (book in advance).'Sea View' room wasn't as expected and we requested another room immediately. Unfortunately the hotel was fully booked and no other rooms were available. My husband booked our holiday in October 2018 and we were really looking forward to sitting on the balcony and watching the sea. Instead, we were looking directly at a large sloping concrete roof, obscuring 80 percent of 'any' view. To make things worse, the area below looked as though it wasn't being utilised at all and whatever it's purpose originally, had just been abandoned. Front of house staff could do with spending some time observing the restaurant staff, regarding how to look after hotel guests. There is a golf booking shop within the hotel complex. Staff are excellent and managed to change one of our tee-off times, after I had a mild asthma attack, due to the humidity. Over all general opinion, not enough staff in the hotel.

Have stayed here many times, beautiful location right on the beach ,super salt water swimming pool and avery good buffet breakfast.. Three things spoil this for me ,firstly the bathroom towels are fit for the bin,I reported this on my last visit but obviously to no avail! Secondly the rooms were never cleaned before 3PM and thirdly the orange juice at breakfast is just coloured water. It's such a pity because otherwise a lovely hotel.

Have stayed in Pestana Hotels and Apt in Alvor over the past 10 years or so.Sometimes twice a year.This year we stayed in Atlantico Apartments next to Dom Joa as hotel was full.Apt were clean but very dated.Beds were not comfortable at all.Ate in the Hotel a few times but food was just ok.

I know you are hotel and have operational costs to consider but our group decided to venture to nearby bars and restaurants that were very reasonably priced €5 for better Vs €1.5 in a bars nearby Overall great time

Overall the hotel is lovely but definitely in need of a revamp. Decor needs to be updated and the reception, dining and bar areas are in need of a facelift. But still, we had a great stay and if some money was put into the hotel we’d definitely be back

Super hotel, bardzo ładny pokój o wystarczającej wielkości, czysty, zadbany, jedyny mały minus za materac - sprężynowy, dwuosobowy i przez to czuć każdy ruch osoby leżącej obok. Łazienka też czysta i zadbana. Bardzo miła obsługa hotelowa, przyjemne jedzenie (może nie jakiś olbrzymi wybór, ale zawsze można znaleźć coś dla siebie). Przy basenie hotelowym można skorzystać z leżaków i parasoli, ale także położyć się w cieniu drzew - idealne dla osób nie mogących przebywać na słońcu. Hotel przy samej plaży - świetnej na długie spacery brzegiem oceanu jak i na stacjonarne leżakowanie i ok. 10 minut spacerkiem od słynnej plaży Praia dos Tres Irmãos (przecudowna). Ogólnie jestem bardzo zadowolona z pobytu tutaj i polecam gorąco.

We stayed for two nights I didnt like this hotel the pool area is grubby. The decor inside is really dated. We stayed in a villa which was nice and clean but the beds weren't great and we cld here the people beneath us and were woken alot by a baby downstairs. From staying in the pestana prai and south beach on previous trips this hotel doesn't come anywhere close to the other two.

Wir haben die Reise ins Dom Joao II zwei Tage vor Abflug gebucht. Bei der Ankunft mussten wir leider feststellen, dass die Zimmer erst um 15 Uhr bereit sein würden, was um 10 Uhr morgens, nach einer kurzen Nacht, erst einmal unangenehm ist. Dies blieb aber der einzig "negative" Aspekt. Das Hotel ist modern und sehr gut ausgestattet. Sicher nicht luxuriös, aber 4 Sterne sind mehr als gerechtfertigt. Der Strand liegt gute 3 Gehminuten entfernt, nur durch einen Steg vom Hotel getrennt. Er ist nicht zu überlaufen, aber gut besucht. Gerade abends kann man schöne Spaziergänge im Sonnenuntergang machen und ist, selbst wenn man bei den Felsformationen angekommen ist, nicht weit entfernt. Auf der Anlage selber gibt es einen Pool, der für uns eher uninteressant war, aber auch eine Minigolfanlage die kostenfrei nutzbar ist. Das Frühstück war sehr gut mit viel Auswahl und das Stadtzentrum von Alvor ist nur gute 10 Gehminuten vom Hotel entfernt. Durch den Wind war es abends teils etwas frisch, aber immerhin nicht zu heiß. Am letzten Abend gab es einen flächendeckenden Stromausfall, der aber vom Personal mit Ruhe und Routine behandelt wurde, sodass man sich zu keinem Zeitpunkt unwohl gefühlt hätte. Allgemein ist das Personal hervorzuheben - hilfsbereit, freundlich, zuvorkommend - von den Köchen bis zum Nachtrezeptionisten Joao Cunha, der uns selbst um 3 Uhr morgens mit einem Lächeln begrüßte. Zum Teil wären einige Renovierungen schön, aber für ein Hotel dieser Kategorie kann man sich absolut nicht beschweren, das Dom Joao II hat unseren Urlaub zu einer tollen und unvergesslichen Zeit gemacht.

É um momento de partilha puder sentar-me numa cadeira onde ainda se percebem as marcas dos calções molhados do cliente anterior.

Nos han negado las toallas de la piscina a las 13horas alegando que sólo las dan hasta las 12. Estoy muy decepcionado con este hotel(lo tengo reservado desde enero) No se lo recomiendo a nadie

Schönes Hotel, super Strand. Zimmer modern eingerichtet. Leider Frühstück zu wenig Plätze oder es wird nicht schnell genug abgeräumt. Und das leidige Problem mit besetzten Liegen am Pool. Da wäre eine Zeitbegrenzung wie in anderen Hotels sinnvoll.

Wir waren Anfang Mai in diesem Hotel. Wie schon von anderen erwähnt war, der Strand über mehrere hundert Meter durch Küstenschutzmaßnahmen eine einzige Baustelle und konnte vom Hotel aus nur durch Überwindung eines ca. 1,5 Meter hohen Sandwalls erreicht werden. Wir hatten ca. 10 Tage vor Reiseantritt im Internet darüber gelesen und bei TUI über unser Reisebüro eine Anfrage gehalten. TUI teilte mit, dass die Baumaßnahmen bereits abgeschlossen sind. Eine 100-prozentig falsche Auskunft. Wir haben daher nach unserer Reise um eine Kulanzentschädigung gebeten, welche mit Hinweis auf die Bedingungen abgelehnt wurde, da wir uns nicht Vorort mit der Reiseleitung in Verbindung gesetzt hatten. Eine Stellungnahme zur falschen Auskunft erfolgte trotz mehrmaliger Nachfragen nicht! Zur Antwort: Diese Auskunft habe ich bereits vor meiner Reise erhalten, obwohl die Auskunft falsch war!!!!!!

Great location.. so.close to the beach. Fantastic popl, kods club and beautiful landscaped gardens. A joy to relax in by the pool. Only downside was very few if any smoke free zones. It was impossible to escape the smell.of smoke in any of the public areas.

Leuk hotel! Wij hadden enkel ontbijt. Dit was iedere dag precies hetzelfde maar voor ons was dit geen probleem. Je mag iedere dag propere handdoeken gaan halen voor aan het zwembad of strand. Als je vlakbij naar het strand wil gaan, zijn er wel leuke wandelpaden gemaakt wat het makkelijker maakt om te wandelen.

I chose the Pestana Dom João for my short break in Alvor based on the reviews I had read, its location and also the room price that was available when I booked. Check In on arrival was quick, efficient and friendly. My room was on the third floor and initially it took me a few minutes to find it as I thought the numbering was slightly confusing plus rooms are located in long dark corridors. I booked a land view room, not my first choice but as it turned out it didn’t really matter. Room was a good size, generous sized bathroom and plenty of storage space too. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was very quiet with no noise disturbance from other rooms. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant and is buffet style. I was very disappointed with the quality of food across the entire offering, it was clear the hotel has opted for low cost produce. Juice was totally synthetic and the coffee was just awful. So bad that on two mornings I could not face breakfast in the hotel and opted for nearby beach restaurants instead. At certain times the restaurant can be very busy, almost chaotic with lots of people crisscrossing each other as they choose what they want. Clearing of tables is also slow which at busy times it can be difficult to find a place to sit. The pool area and gardens are very extensive and there are lots of sun beds in both areas. Although the hotel states that reserving sun beds is not permitted and towels etc will be removed if no one uses the bed for a hour, this is not enforced at all. What happens is people leave their stuff on the sun beds and then go off to the beach for long periods of time meaning it can be very difficult to find an empty sun bed! The pool is saltwater but is so cold that it’s not really useable which is not great when you want to cool off on a warm day. There is a pool bar with seating that offers drinks, snacks and ice cream but on the couple of occasions I used it the service seemed disorganised. The hotels location adjacent to the beach and the boardwalk is very good. There are 10 beach bar/restaurants that are easily walkable along the boardwalk and the town of Alvor takes about 10 minutes or so to walk to where you can find shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The beach is very deep and very long especially at low tide which leaves a large area of flat sand allowing you to walk the entire length. Outside the front of the hotel there are bus stops for local buses that will take you to Portimao in one direction and I think to Lagos in the other. I took the bus to Portimao one morning as it was cloudy and it took about 25 minutes and cost €1.50 each way. I used the hotel bar on a couple of occasions for a last drink and the service was okay. The lounge and bar area is very big and dated in its style and layout and there is also a stage where most evenings there is entertainment in the form of a singer or small group playing. Overall I liked the Dom João for its location and also my room which was comfortable but that’s it. Room corridors and the bar lounge area are both dated and could benefit from a more contemporary makeover. I also think that given the cost of staying at this hotel food quality and offering could also be improved.

Golf trips !! Great location for golf tours in / around Alvor / Portimao. Good for a walk into Alvor and a stumble back or 5 euro taxi, if your are too pi55ed to walk LOL... breakfasts are OK, rooms comfy if basic, comes complete with surly bar staff... we love it... 2019 was year 3 and 2020 will most likely be year 4....
