Quinta das Fontainhas is situated on top of a hill above the pretty cobbled streets of Vila franca da serra, in Gouveia Portugal The old farm house is surrounded by huge old oak trees that offer plenty of shade in the hot summer months and the lovely olive grove with plenty of water mines, ponds and the little streams that give this place it´s name farm of Fountains) with giant granite boulders strewn across the land and the river Mondego just down the hill, this is truly an amazing place. Quinta das Fontainhas is conveniently situated just 15 minutes from the A25. and then you reach the heart of Portugal. The Serra da Estrela mountain range is right in front of you, From our house there are far reaching views across the valley to the highest point in Portugal with many old stone hillside villages with medieval towns and castles to explore and many rivers lakes, glacial valleys and open countryside with all of the wildlife here, this area is a stunning place for relaxing under the oak trees with a good book, or bird watching, a leisurely stroll or something a bit more active like cycling, hiking, swimming, kayaking, and exploring the areas many hidden treasures. Aveiro on the coast is a hour away, so you can be by the coast relaxing after a morning walking in the mountains. This is a very special place, a lovely place to see nature at it´s best!
