Had a great tour with Joao to Monsaraz with a great lunch and stop by a winery. He was personable, shared a wealth of information and history about the area, and was a great guide.

We knocked on the door of Backcountry tours in Evora. We had no reservation, but were looking for a local tour guide. Joao gave us a wonderful tour of the city. Evora is fascinating with the remains of prehistoric inhabitants, Roman ruins that have been found under newer buildings, churches with incredible histories (who could miss the chapel of bones?). Joao made the history come alive for us. He also recommended a tour of a cork farm which was fascinating. We could have spent more time in this beautiful area and would have chosen Joao as our guide whenever possible. Unfortunately, we needed to move on to sun and kayaking in the Algarve.

João was a fantastic host with great local knowledge. We walked Èvora in the morning then travelled to Monsaraz to see the slightly surreal abandoned ancient town and enjoyable wine tasting to end the day.

Joao was the best tour guide and most accommodating and friendly person we could have asked for. Highly recommend!

Had a great tour of the Megaliths and Dolmans around Evora. Joao is very knowledgeable about the history of the area, and full of facts regarding the cork and olive farms surrounding the ancient sights.
