This was our first time visiting Watermark Surf House. We stayed for just a few (amazing) days in their Espinho house. From the moment we arrived, Rui was unbelievably welcoming and helpful – from helping us figure out how to find the house to being available whenever we had questions. He met us as soon as we arrived (Even gave us his parking spot out front), and welcomed us to join the surf lesson they had plan that same afternoon.
Surfing – Staying in the Espinho house, the surf break was literally right across the street. We did go closer to Esmoriz on our first day to another really cool spot, but having the break so close really helped with early mornings and late evening surfing. Rui and Alex taught all the surf lessons, and for me, as a beginner, I could not have asked for any two better teachers. My boyfriend has much more experience than I do, and he enjoyed going out with the more experienced surfers and being a part of some of those lessons. With Rui’s and Alex’s help, I was able to get up on the first day and the hang of it by the second lesson and had a blast! In addition to being great teachers, they are really supportive, so no matter how silly you may feel you look or times you fall over, they make it fun all around!
Lodging – we stayed in their Espinho lodging and loved it. Since it’s in a pretty popular and lively town, there were a lot of shops and restaurants nearby to visit when we weren’t in the water. The bedrooms and shared spaces were all very clean and organized.
Both Rui and Alex speak really good English, so there were no issues there. Also, since Rui was so amazing, he helped us get a really tough dinner reservation for a restaurant that only speaks Portuguese in a small town in the Douro Valley (our next stop on our trip). Even in the short time of our visit, our time with Watermark felt more like hanging out with your favorite family members We could write must more about how great our stay was, but we highly recommend for others to visit for themselves! We cannot wait to go back and are already looking at good dates to secure our spot

Highly recommended. The Watermark Surf team is great and could not do more for us to enjoy the stay in Esmoriz. The guys are absolutely reliable and incredibely kind and friendly but still professionals. We will definitely come back next year.

Watermark is the best! My husband and I have been travelling for 8 months and our time at Watermark has been the highlight. I can't speak highly enough about the owners - Rui and Ricardo and surf instruction from Alex. The owners and instructors have created the most relaxed and welcoming vibe. We felt like long time friends with everyone immediately. The house was comfortable, relaxing, clean and well cared for. The surf instruction was motivating, fun and was perfect for a first time surfer like me. My husband is more experienced and he loved it as well. We originally booked for 3 days and extended our stay and honestly would have stayed for way longer if we could have. This is also a great place for travellers who are a bit older than the typical hostel crowd. We are 37 years old and felt very comfortable, with folks being younger and older than us. So many of the guests are return surfers, coming back every year from all over the world because it's literally the best. 110% would recommend!! I will definitely return.

A genuinely enjoyable few days. Ricardo was very easy and accommodating. We do not surf, just come to stay, it was perfect. The house is well located, clean and quiet. We stayed during the street festival which was 150m away.

I've been to many surfcamps before, but this was definitely the best place so far! Ricardo and Rui are two very passionated surfers and teachers who always care for their guests' well being. The beautiful house and its large backyard is a perfect accommodation for people who want to relax and have some fun at the same time. I will definitely come back here again!

Beter late than never :-P
Me and my gf were looking for some time for a nice place to learn surfing, not the crowded by surf tourism-party-people one. By chance Nadia found this surf house.
It's a bright/clean house with 2 rooms and a big backyard area, were you can have a barbecue/take a sunbath/have a party. Being this close to the sea was just what we were looking for.
It's only a 3 minute walk to the sea which is quite nice in the morning.
The small town Ezmoriz is only 30 min (~2€) by metro from Porto citycenter - if you feel like partying or discover Porto.
Ricardo & Rui were really attentive teachers. Every morning they were choosing the best location to surf, depending on waves/weather and our limited ;-) capabilities.
They were really attentive towards every single one of us (at most 5 students).
Ricardo is not only a surfteacher, he also has a passion for building surfboards - which he used to do professinally.
He is also a professional photographer and will probably get some nice shots of you on the board.
After surfing and a little break we used to ride a bike (surfboards and bikes are in the garage and availaible at all time) through the villages and park/woods nearby and of course along the coast.
Espresso is a philosophy in Portugal - and one of the best things to do is havinf an esspresso on the beach enjoying a sunset into the ocean…
