Tradition indicates that the construction of the Memorial of Sobrado, like the one in Ermida and Alpendorada, marked the passage of the funeral procession of D. Mafalda. However, there is another story, much more epic.
The legend tells us, that nearby lived Martim, a descendant of the Bulhões family. He, when was young, fell in love with Maria Teresa Taveira, better known as Maria, "the good".
The love was mutual but her father, D. Gil, demanded that Martin went to war before marrying his daughter. The boy was fearless so he accepted the proposal and raised a knight before leaving for Lisbon, where he was to help King. Sancho I to conquer Silves.
But the young man, too reckless, was eventually captured by the Moors.
Meanwhile, D. Gil died and D. Maria was left alone and began to be persecuted and pressed to marry the very rich but very cruel D. Fafes, Lord of Raiva. Seeing that Maria resisted he decide to take her by force.
Fortunately, the monk of Paços de Gondim was able to negotiate with the Moors for the releasing of D. Martim, who returned immediately to be with his beloved.
The two rivals meet near the Boavista Portals for a duel from which emerges victorious D. Martim. He then orders the construction of the Memorial where the swords were engraved, in memory of this duel.
D. Martin married D. Maria and had a son: Fernão de Bulhões, later known as Saint Anthony of Lisbon.
