Located in Giraldo Square, Santo Antão Church, was built by King Henrique. This building was the reason why the surrounding monuments in Giraldo Square were destroyed, since they blocked the view towards the church. Its construction began in 1557. Inside, the spotlight goes to the rare marble front of the high-altar representing the Apostolate of the church which previously occupied the location, the chapel of Santo Antoninho. This church, one of the most important in Evora, dominates one of the sides of Giraldo Square and still today shows 3 naves on the inside. The rest of the building resembles a “lounge church”. It was considered a very important Portuguese monument in 1970.

Right in Giraldo Square, this church is well worth a visit or attending a service. It's a medium size church that is nice on the outside and gorgeous on the inside. Well worth a stop in!

Tem que se pagar para tirar fotos do interior

O pior sitio em Évora para se visitar. Ao entrar temos sinais que pedem 50 cêntimos por cada fotografia tirada, pensando eu que seria um local que tivesse muito para fotografar, entro e, vejo que é uma igreja em degradação, onde as várias imagens que tem estão em degradação... Curiosamente, ao entrar somos brindados por 3 policias (3 senhoras de idade) que andam a vigiar o que fazemos! Curiosamente fazem parte da igreja! Curiosamente foi a primeira igreja que entrei que não doei nada...

Igreja de Santo Antão Bem bonita, e se quiser fazer uma foto é convidado a oferecer 0,50 euro, para ajudar a conservação.
