Auf unserer Rundreise wurden wir von unserer Reiseleiterin auch hierhergeführt und hatten die Möglichkeit uns einen Eindruck zu verschaffen. Hier wird auf traditionellem Wege Kork verarbeitet. Über Wässern, Pressen, Schneiden und färben werden von Portemonnaies, über Untersetzer und Schuhe bis Handtaschen die unterschiedlichsten Dinge hergestellt, welche im angeschlossenen Laden auch direkt zu sehr günstigen Preisen erworben werden können. Die Herstellung und die unterschiedlichen Qualitäten wurden uns ausführlich erklärt. Wir können diese Adresse sehr empfehlen.

We were so fortunate to come at a time (unannounced) when David was available to give us a tour. David and his parents run the business; they come from a family of people who have worked with cork for multiple generations and he was a wealth of information. We learned about the life cycle of cork oak trees, the harvesting process, cork quality, and the process for preparation to final product. We also checked out the expansive gift shop with many cork items at reasonable prices. I suggest that folks check opening times before going as they are closed in the early afternoon for lunch. This visit was one of the highlights to our trip to Portugal.

Great place to learn about the cork harvesting, treatment and fabrication. EVEN BETTER: you can actually watch the whole process from the raw material to the final products (decoration items). And this without an annoying guided tour in a big group of tourists ;-) Accessoires, bags, purses, shoes etc. are not produced here but in another factory. TIP: If you don't like the tourist shops and their cork products, which often come from China, you can have a look at the nice shop integrated in the factory building which is run by the mother. There you can buy all kinds of cork products with a great quality and at a good price. If he has time and is available, you can ask her son David and he will be happy to explain the whole fabrication process to you - even in very good English! PS: Thank you for your time, David.

Excelente local para aprender todos os processos da cortiça, desde o corte das nas árvores até às rolhas das nossas garrafas de vinho ou de champanhe. Isto para não falar nas centenas de produtos feitas com cortiça ou com base de cortiça.

A wonderful tour under the guidance of David who was really nice and with all the knowledge throughout the cork industry. There is a factory store at quite reasonable prices. Tour is highly recommended, the place is run by David and his parents who were really nice and helpful !!!

Bem interessante, muita cortiça. Materiais em cortiça a venda. Preços mais baratos do que no comércio do centro.

Das Cortecarte ist eigentlich eine Verkaufsausstellung mit der Möglichkeit, einen Einblick in die Gewinnung des Korks und in die Herstellung der Korkprodukte zu erhalten. Dazu sollte man am besten eine Führung buchen, wobei wir nicht sagen können, wo oder wie das geht und was die Führung kosten würde. Wir sahen allerdings auf dem Gelände eine Kleinbus mit Gästen die an einer Führung teilnahmen. Wer einfach nur einen kleinen Ausflug plant, für den lohnt ein Abstecher in das Industriegebiet weil es mal sehr interessant ist zu sehen, welche Mengen Kork verarbeitet werden. In diesem Gebiet gibt es viele Kork verarbeitende Betriebe. Nur beim Cortecarte hat man Zugang zum Gelände und man kann diese Produkte auch direkt in einem netten Verkaufsraum kaufen. Die Produkte unterscheiden sich jedoch nicht vom Angebot in den üblichen Touristen Geschäften z.B. in Evora. Die Preise sind beim Cortecarte etwas günstiger als im Handel soweit wir es beurteilen konnten. Fazit: Kleiner Ausflug zum Anschauen lohnt. Aber es ist jetzt kein mega Erlebnis. Viel Spaß.

What can I say? I visited this Cork factory 3 or 4 times, and each single one was fantastic. They have a comprehensive explanation about the entire process, with many practical examples. At the end I suggest to visit the Cork shop, where you can find some of the most authentic Cork art in Portugal. Top.
