Definitely recommendable, and an unforgettable experience! My husband and I went to the lodge spontaneously in the late afternoon whilst the weather circumstances were a bit cloudy. Nonetheless, the friendly well speaking welcoming English host had no problems with arranging a horseback riding trip for only both of us and immediately undertook action. Already visiting the lodge and its environment was a great experience with all the well-taken care off animals who approached us to say hello (cats, chicken, dogs) and the remarkable hospitality of the New Forest Lodge to offer my parents (who did not go horse riding) something to drink from the house. Many useful advices about restaurants to visit and so on. But riding the horses through the beautiful natural atmospheres made our vacation complete! Especially because it was my husband’s first time to ride a horse, and the lovely horses were so easy going that the one-hour turned into an unforgettable moment! Next to the instructions the supporting host gave by taking an effort to make the best out of the trip riding the horses he simultaneously provided a lot of information about the near surroundings and even its history. We want to thank New Forest Lodge and the lovely animals, especially the horses, for this memorable moment! In Dutch we would say: “Ga zo door”!

My boyfriend and I did a 2hour horse ride a few weeks ago and we absolutely LOVED it! The path was beautiful and varied, the horses were well trained and well looked after, the teacher/guide was very friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable, and the vibe of the whole place was authentic, peaceful, natural and quite special in my opinion. A little patch of heaven in the hills of Portugal. Hopefully, next time we will do a longer day ride and book to stay in the Lodge as well! Thank you again!

Geweldige rit gemaakt met tweeën. Goede begeleiding door een prachtig landschap waar hij veel over te vertellen wist. Leuke goed verzorgde paarden voor herhaling vatbaar!

Stables aren't very far from the lodge. Amazing views even from the window, and large open spaces. Breakfast is served at 8am-10am, with goat's cheese, milk and home-made bread. The owner is very kind and sociable. The dog that lives onsite is very friendly and trained to stay away from the breakfast table and those afraid of or allergic to dogs.

Le staff est super sympa. Ils sont vraiment aux petits soins avec nous. Les chevaux sont magnifiques et très dociles. Le paysage et super beau. Activité à faire en famille, avec les enfants

The place also offers cooking classes which we participated and really enjoyed. No prior knowledge is needed though it helps. Francine is very nice and answered any of the qquestion we had and Melvin was really good help to us. We learned some of the traditional cousins of Portugal. Highly recommended

Great experience, had an amazing 5 hour ride to the beach ,very friendly horses and breathtaking views , I definately recommend it!

Wirklich wunderbar. Eine tolle Gegend, ein romantischer Bauernhof und ein toller Guide. Wir sind eine Std gemütlich ausgeritten mit sehr gepflegten Pferden... Auf dem "Dach der Welt" die Sicht ist unfassbar von den Bergen zur süd- und Ostküste. Auf dem Gut gibt es wohl auch zwei rustikale Zimmer. Der Kräutergarten ist ein Traum, wenn auch die ganze Gegend ein einziger Kräuterzauber ist.

We had a fantastic time at the New Forest Lodge in September 2016. Everybody at the ranch was super friendly and immediately made us feel at home even though we just stayed for one night. We had arranged a 2-hour horse ride in the evening of our arrival which turned out to be an absolutely beautiful experience. The horses looked very well maintained and looked-after and the location of the ranch was perfect for a ride - no people around and stunning scenery (plus a very pretty sunset). In the meantime, Francis and her daughter had prepared yummy farm BBQ with plenty of yummy food that we enjoyed on the terrace with the family. It was a fun night! The next morning, it went on with amazing food when there was breakfast with home-made jams and yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread, coffee, tea... The baby pigs that had been born during the night were another nice surprise. It was really hard to leave but at one point we had to get going - Francis had recommended a list of nice places to visit in the area and on our way up north.

The beautiful and ideal terrain for horseback riding and carriage driving is available. The horses are well trained and looked after well. There is also option to ride in a carriage as passenger. Everything equestrian in general is so expensive that only very rich are able to afford riding and carriage driving. Here is the place to enjoy horse back riding and carriage driving in casual and inexpensive manner without rigmarole of oppressive traditions concerning dress and other requirements – both for human beings and horses. The entire family and staff managing the New Forest Lodge are so affable that the guests feel totally at home.
