For a day you will remember for the rest of your life drive the 40 Kms or so up the winding and dramatic N397 up from Tavira and try a platter of grilled lamb chops in this restaurant: fantastic fare. You may have to settle for a platter of pork cutlets if there is no lamb left. The place is also the social hub of Cachopo ( pronounced "ka-shop" in the local dialect) Then go visit the local museum over the road which explains the flax/linen that is still produced in small pieces here: maybe buy a piece. Stroll around the village and take in the Jardin which is actually an indoor garden of flowers made with paraffin wax and paper. There is also a very old gentleman who makes the traditional decorated pony and mule halters who has a small workshop in the village. This area also produces and excellent Aguardente de Medronho. Then proceed north-east along the N124 to tranquil Alcoutim with its Castello on the River Guadiana and eventually south to Vila Real and follow the NI25 (or A22 toll) back toward Tavira. As fine a day as can be had in these troubled times.

Absolutamente rica y casera. La comida muy sencilla y el producto exquisito. Un viaje a casa de la abuela. Si vas a Cachopo, sin duda, este es un gran lugar. Y el trato fue espectacular.

Very traditional Portuguese dining room full of workers upon entrance. Went for lamb and pork chops and weren't disappointed.

Nettes feines sehr gut besuchtes Restaurant. Das Essen ist gut uns günstig. Hier wird sogar teilweise deutsch gesprochen.

Great place to find on a Sunday for a lovely lunch. Service friendly. Excellent value. Eat with the locals.

Basic Portuguese fare well done at reasonable prices on a great road (the EN124 is one of the best motorcycling roads in the world). The only slight grumble is that it is now on some sort of hiking route and is often full of tourists. Long term I suspect that is going to have a malign effect on both quality and price. So visit soon.

Lugar típico da serra algarvia e frequentado por boa gente!

Hier ben je echt Portugees onder de Portugezen. Ik heb steeds flashbacks van mijn eigen leven op het Limburgse platteland in de jaren 60. De boerderij van opa en oma aan vaders kant zou hier zo passen. En ze zouden hier gewoon kunnen rondlopen, opa en oma. Ik moet hier vaak aan ze denken. Comfortabel was hun leven allerminst. Ze moesten heel hard werken. En er was ook veel onderlinge solidariteit. Zie ik hier ook.

Sorry first post was a mistake. This was possibly one of the best meals I have had . Very attentive and Mama made the best lamb dish of the day. Delicious.
