Excellent place to learn and practice Jiu-Jitsu. Teacher Helio (and also his team) has a high technical level, is committed, humble and a serious practitioner and professional. If you want to develop and improve your Jiu-Jitsu skills, the Five Elements Academy is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!

Respeito, camaradagem, são as qualidades de uma escola, onde se trata o próximo como família, onde a diferença entre pessoas não existe, muita humildade. A minha filha só frequenta esta escola à um ano, e tenho a dizer que, de todos os citios, tanto ela como a irmã (um dia irá), não poderiam estar em melhor escola, espetáculo. Parabéns todos, por fazerem parte desta escola.

Coach Hélio has created a family environment that makes very welcoming for everyone to come and train. It's an incredible place to learn and grow, both as a person and in the mat. Coach Hélio works very hard to inspire his students and help them become a better version of themselves. He's by far one of the best coaches and mentors anyone could possibly find.

This academy is the amazing and the professor is awesome! Very technical and travel friendly. My ship was in port and I was able to train with Helio and his students. A must go to if you are in the area and looking somewhere to train Jiu Jitsu or any other martial art :)

O Hélio domina a arte de bem receber e de ensinar. O. Ambiente é acolhedor e os colegas foram fantásticos ao corrigirem pequenos erros e a sugerirem dicas de melhoria.
Se tiverem tempo, recomendo que vão mais cedo para verem a dedicação que o Hélio empenha nas aulas das crianças.

I travel often to check out different gyms and this was definitely one my favorites. I attended the afternoon open mat. Everyone was super friendly and rolled very well. Everyone spoke English so it was a very friendly environment. I definitely recommend this gym for anyone training/stopping by in Portugal.

Had a great time training jiu jitsu at this amazing gym! Helio, was super nice and welcomed us with open arms! Spoke very good English and the gym was clean with lockers and showers. Overall very happy with my visit and I would go again!

English speakers welcome! I had my first experience here yesterday and was very happy with my private lesson with Helio. He was a great coach who taught me very much technical and defensive moves within a short period of time. He was nice, the studio is clean, I was surprised about how clean the bathroom was. Traveling around the world and visiting multiple martial art studios, I’ve come to accept they don’t have clean bathrooms yet this was a nice surprise. The coaches, and students, respect another and their space. They do classes (kickboxing and Ju-Jitsu) and private lessons
Bonus: Batata is a sweet dog who will welcome you and keep you company while you’re sitting down.

Great place to train jiu jitsu with a seasoned world class professor with his black belt lineage from the famous Royce Gracie. I dropped in from Canada during my vacation to Lisbon and professor Helio was extremely welcoming as were his students. Instruction was in Portuguese and English. Drop in rate was reasonable and professor Helio was approachable and willing to share his wealth of knowledge. Highly recommended.

Came in for a class and was blown away by how kind everyone was! Great instruction in both Portuguese and English for international students who are visiting. Absolutely phenomenal environment to learn full of very talented students. Plus there’s a cute dog named Batata, who can compete with that?

Came to Lisbon on a business trip and reached out to these guys to see if I could attend a fundamentals class and open mat. They responded very quickly and welcomed me with open arms. Good gym and excellent instruction. If you’re considering gyms to start training this is a good choice.

We wanted our eldest kid to learn martial arts, but we were not just looking for self-defense techniques, we were also interested in the philosophy and personal growth. We tried several places until we found Hélio and his academy. His love for children, his dedication, the respect he shows and his commitment to make every one of those kids a better version of themselves was more than we ever dreamed of.
It has been over 3 years and both of our children attend the academy now, even I have joined the jiu-jitsu family. We can see the results of the time invested with Hélio and the rest of the team at the school every day. We are grateful we have a place like this in Lisbon and we encourage adults and children to come and try it!

Great JJ academy!
Very friendly and inclusive environment.
Instructors always welcome you with a smile and introduce newcomers to the rest of the class.
Classes are 60min long followed by an open mat.
Every instructor is keen on detail and will scale techniques according to your level.
This school also has a great kid’s program.
Class are taught in both Portuguese and English in case there’s any non native speakers attending class.
Definitely worth trying out! You won’t regret

Amazingly friendly and very enjoyable. The coach and students all had a very welcoming attitude and I really enjoyed the skills we learnt in class and also the sparring at the end. Will return if I'm ever in Lisbon highly recommend

Visited 5 elements gym recently. Hélio was very kind and welcoming to us in his gym. A very good instructor with traditional BJJ morals in the gym. Great academy with a busy class of students with solid fundamentals.

Had a great walk-in bjj session here with maestro Helio during the Europeans. Super friendly and equipped gym, met some great people here. Will definitely go back when I have the chance. If you’re staying in the center of Lisbon take an Uber, the gym is located not far from lxfactory. Oss.

Cheguei à Academia 5 Elements por recomendação do meu professor de bjj na Alemanha, e fui recebida pelo professor Hélio como um membro da família.
Encontrei um ambiente óptimo, familiar e muito profissional, com uma dinâmica diferente e alunos dedicados que não me facilitaram o jogo
Um espírito certamente incutido pelo professor Hélio, sempre atento e muito paciente que me fez sentir em casa.
A 5 Elements é sem dúvida um lugar a que gostaria de voltar.
Aconselho a visita - não será seguramente a única!

I came to visit my friend in Lisbon for the Lisbon Open. She trains here regularly. I had a really nice time training - I came for two sessions. The first was taught by Henrique, who was very clear and made sure everyone had the techniques he showed down. I had a nice time rolling with people in the class too. The second session was an open mat with Hélio. He is really nice; though bigger and more experienced, we had a nice roll together which was really fun. Everyone at the gym made me feel welcome. There is also a super cute dog. What more could you want?

Awesome training with Professor Helio and his students. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. If your in Lisbon I highly recommend dropping in to train there. Also don’t forget to say Hi to the best Jiu Jitsu Dog in the world Batata ❤️

Tenho o meu filho a praticar nesta Academia há apenas 1 mês, e é com satisfação que sentimos o carinho e profissionalismo com que as crianças são tratadas. Não só pela arte em si, mas por tudo o que lhe está subjacente e que nem sempre é lembrado: queremos crianças preparadas para este mundo, mas felizes e confiantes em si próprias. Treino nesta academia desde Junho e a experiência está a ser fantástica. O ambiente é óptimo, os elementos da equipa são excelentes profissionais, dedicados e pacientes, e os colegas são camaradas. Recomendo a quem quer experimentar esta arte suave. O treino é duro mas recompensador. Venham mais aulinhas :)

Fiz hoje uma aula experimental com o Mestre Hélio e foi uma experiência fantástica! Nunca tinha praticado algo na área da defesa pessoal e admirei bastante a dedicação e a excelente pedagogia transmitidas pelo mesmo na aprendizagem de diversas técnicas e posterior aplicação.
Muito grata e com a certeza de que futuramente será uma aposta pessoal!

I'm a brown belt from Belgium and trained at this wonderfull gym for 5 months during my erasmus studies in Portugal. Since day one i was welcomed as a member of their family. This gym has great talented guys who will give you a hard time on the mat with only positive energy and vibes. I want to say a big thanks to Helio and the other coaches of five elements for their hospitality and taking me with to open mats, a tournament and for a weekend chill after. They are great coaches who are open to speak English and improve your game! Obrigado, e até logo!!

Podemos praticar a modalidade num ambiente familiar, o mestre Hélio é um excelente profissional, é licenciado, o que marca toda a diferença em termos de pedagogia e métodos de ensino. Tenho a minha filha de 5 anos inscrita e eu e o meu marido já praticamos, infelizmente por questões de horário tivemos de deixar, mas a nossa filha continua e gosta muito. Merecia era um espaço um pouco maior.

Awesome gym!!! Super friendly and welcoming guys!! Top notch gym! I was fortunate to be there at the Royce Gracie seminar!! I showed up pretty late and the Coach still said that it would not be a problem to join!!! They got everything you need even a small shop with Gi and NoGi stuff!!
If you looking for a place to Train jiu jitsu in Lisboa, this is the place to be! 5 Stars straight!

My 5 year old daughter did a drop in class and it was a wonderful experience.Both staff and class kids were welcoming and super friendly.I was a great experience and would definitely recommend.It is a European institution in Bjj . Thank you and hopefully we come back again in the future!!

I had the opportunity to take private lessons with Prof Helio. Visiting Five Elements was one of the high points of my trip to Lisbon. They replied to my email and set up our meeting a week before I arrived. Prof Helio took time to examine how my guard is passed and showed me ways to go from half guard to side control, mount and to take the back. Then we drilled. He is a genuinely nice man and was patient and clear and made everything understandable. We finished each hour with an excellent session of learning how to disarm and submit knife and club strikes. I am better for having gone there. If I lived in Lisbon, this is where I would train.

Great gym for training BJJ. I have trained here the last two years I have been in Lisbon. Two matted areas. Friendly staff who were very accommodating to people coming to train from all over the world before the European championships. Would highly recommend! Timetable is available online, check it out!

My second home in Lisbon for the last 3 years. Amazing teacher (and great team) to learn from in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The professor speaks perfect English and welcomes everybody in his gym. I definitely recommend anyone to come by and have a roll with us. Até já!

Wonderful gym for kids and adults with an excellent bjj trainer, teaching traditional Gracie style mixed with modern combative, MMA and self defense elements. Friendly, tough and respectful people! The lighter and smaller athletes in the gym give vivid proof for the saying that Jiu Jitsu is "o triunfo da inteligência sobre a força bruta!" Enjoy rolling!

Awesome atmosphere/environment and Hélio really knows how Jiu Jitsu works. You MUST go there if you really want to learn jiu jitsu.
