I agree with the previous review. You pay for 4-5 star accommodations and it’s more like 1-2 star. The pace is really slow for me so highly recommend having a car to do other things. The riding was ok but I only got one lesson from George (the head guy) and that was great but then the rest of the lessons were underwhelming with the same instructor and horse. Didn’t really feel like I learned that much or got my money’s worth but I was able to experience a piaffe and passage.

Excellent 10 Days. Staff all very accommodating and very personable. Very good Intructors, good food well cooked. Horses were Amazing!

The lessons are good, but the rest(accommodation and food) is not up too par with what you pay for and what you can get for an equivalent price in Portugal. Breakfast, lunch and supper are very simple. It is probably not the best place to discover Portuguese food. It feels like a cantine. Sometimes, it seems like left overs are served to the clients(ex: old biscuits that are not eaten at breakfast served in dessert). All the guests are seated together for eating, which can make sense when people come alone and have lessons together, otherwise it is just plain weird. The dining room feels clean, and doesn't reek of horses fortunately. But, sometimes, errors are made which are a bit off putting: like one breakfast, when I took my cup off my plate and saw that it hadn't been washed(see photo). Also the accomodations are simple, feel very damp, stuffy and not clean everywhere(under bed night table spider webs). In addition, you pay per person which can become expensive when in groups and not at all worth it. If we had to go there again we would take a nice hotel in the sourrounding area (Mafra) and sort ourselves out for food at restaurants and the nearby Intermarché, then just go to the riding school for lessons.

I stayed in Escola de Equitação de Alcainça in July.2017. The location is great - close to Lisbon, Sintra, ocean cost and other beautiful places. Unfortunately, i can mentioned a total mismatch of price vs quality. You pay the price similar to the accommodation at a 4 star hotel and got a type of hostel for this price. All permises need the renovation. Please do not trust to the pictures you see at tbe website or facebook. I am not a horse rider, but according with my friend's notice the horses are great and the classes with Mr. Malleroni (with him and only him) is above all praise. If you're a fan of riding just be prepared for minimal facilities and services for a very large amount of money.
