Contemporary art. After visiting this place, now I am sure this is not my cup of tea. The 99% of the 'art' presented here, as whole, presents the end of the real art. Which end is outside any logical and even psychological border. There is a value which presents the bottom of the people's ability to create, everything outside that is just emptiness full with someone's meaning in order to justify its nonsense and its presentation. This 'art' is the abortion waste of the Art. This is a rotten flesh. The depths of the endless extinction and human degradation of its own perceptions of merit and sensation.

The permanent collection at the Museu Colecao Berardo is a thorough representation of first the time period 1900 to 1960 and then 1960 to the present. They own some very important pieces which was a great experience to see. I also enjoyed three interesting visiting exhibits.

The collection of the Museu Coleção Berardo is representative of the fine arts of the 20th century and early 21st century. The collection covers major movements from surrealism to pop art, hyper-realism, minimalist art to conceptual art, presented in various media. It covers Portuguese modern and contemporary art in particular. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions that change on a regular basis.
This museum is named after Joe Berardo, who was born in Funchal in Madeira and made his fortune in mining in South Africa before returning to Portugal. He is an inveterate collector, starting as a schoolboy with stamps, postcards and matchboxes before graduating to modern and contemporary art in the 1980s. His various collections, which include art deco and Chinese porcelain, encompass more than 40,000 works, of which some 1,200 are by well-known modern and contemporary artists with a reported value of $750 million. Much of his art collection has in the past been used as collateral to borrow from banks.
Berardo first displayed his collection in 1997 at an old casino in Sintra, before moving to the current location, the Centro Cultural de Belém. By agreement with the Portuguese Government, a foundation (Fundação de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea—Colecção Berardo) was created to support the housing of his art collection of roughly 1,800 works. Much as Spain did with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, the government agreed to house part of his collection and took a 10-year option to buy 862 paintings and sculptures for 316 million euros, based on a Christie's valuation in 2006.

Imperdible el cuadro en blanco con la inscripción "el arte es invisible, el verdadero mensaje de la pintura es un secreto sólo conocido por el artista" o la caja transparente llena totalmente de basura

Splendide par la variété et la qualité des œuvres . Cependant un peu d'explication au sujet des œuvres modernes contemporaines. Des commentaires en français, dans un pays où pratiquement tout portugais nous fait la joie de parler notre langue, serait très apprécié .

O museu é fantástico o que não impede que aconteçam pérolas como a tradução da legenda desta foto da exposição Deeper Shapes. Em vez de Cruz Sobre Berlim, alguém usando o Google (?) traduziu como "atravessar Berlim"!

Really impressive modern art collection. There's a lot to be impressed and intrigued by no matter your level knowledge or love for modern art. Tip: the picasso is beautiful and iconic but very small and it's at the beginning of the top floor. Look for it. Had to turn back people multiple times as they "just couldn't see it". But don't worry there's a lot of great art there besides that piece.
Definitely Worth the visit.

Vous aimez les musées, allez y les yeux fermés. Superbes galeries, très nombreux artistes. Du contemporain, des expositions qui tournent (certaines un peu barrées).
Facile de se repérer, prévoir quelques heures tout de même car c'est assez étendu.
À coupler avec le monastère des hyeronimites qui se trouve non loin de là.

I love this museum so much! It was mind blowing, probably one of my favorite museums!
They had a very interesting collection when I went to Lisbon back in 2017. I really liked how much space they have there. It felt magical and very inspiring. I also saw work of Jenny Holzer for a very first time there. Great job, I hope to go back!

Moltissime opere contemporanee e d'avanguardia, ci sono moltissimi artisti famosi (Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Mondrian, Ernst, Duchamp, De Chirico, Fontana, Warhol, e tantissimi altri) e il sabato è pure gratis. ma i 5 euro del biglietto sarebbero comunque ben spesi.

Вълнуващ! Най- посещаваният музей в Португалия. Най- доброто от модерното и съвременното изкуство от 20-ти век до наши дни. Среща на различни култури, артисти, творения: Пикасо, Мондриан, Уорхол и много, много други. Често се използва за сцена на конгреси и фирмени събития. От терасата се открива велика гледка към реката Тежу, яхтеното пристанище, мостът 25-ти Април и кулата Белем. Голяма красота! Не трябва да се пропуска.

Nice museum with a great collection. €5 for adult and €2,50 for a student's ticket is not a lot of money for the great collection they have. Their collection includes a fair amount of Andy Warhol, a Karel Appel, Jackson Pollock and Salvador Dali. Difinitely a must-see for anyone who loves contemporary/modern art!

Don’t do what I did, which was to assume that the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) was the main modern art museum in Lisbon. The Colecao Berardo is THE place! It’s a beautiful space with a nicely curated collection of 20th Century modern art, all placed in its proper context, along with a vast collection of structural/multimedia art in the basement. It’s a bit out of town, but it’s well worth the trip, especially on Saturdays when admission is GRATIS.

It is an extremely beautiful museum that the architecture itself is remarkable and instagrammable.
Upon entry you can feel the solemn atmosphere built up by the beige stone walls layer by layer which prepare you for the elegant artistic journey two hours ahead.
The museum itself is huge and so as the collection. The top floor shows the art before the 1970s? while the bottom floor shows the work of a more modern era. Both are beautiful curated with a great variety of works. They give you a quick revision of art history.
In the middle floor there is a big temporary exhibition with a great variety of themes not limited to Portugal. At that time, a photography and installation exhibition was on show. Not my cup of tea, but the space itself is stunning.
In the outdoor area you can see beautiful colourful sculptures and a garden that overlooks the area and the sea. The garden is blessed with olive trees and small ponds and it is a nice place to enjoy a stroll.
After seeing the exhibition, do not miss the interesting art shops that offer high quality postcards, artworks, gadgets and handicraft at a reasonable price.

20c 현대미술 중심으로 다양한 작품이 전시되어 있음.
몬드리안, 피카소, 후안 미로, 앤디 워홀, 칸딘스키 등 미술책에서 한 번 쯤 들어봄직한 작가들의 콜렉션이 잘 전시되어 있다.
생각보다 다양하고 방대한 작품량으로, 2시간 정도는 잡고 관람해야 넉넉하게 즐길 수 있을 듯 하다.

Premetto che probabilmente il mio giudizio è indubbiamente condizionato dalla scarsa conoscenza dell' arte contemporanea. Ho approfittato dell' ingresso gratuito al sabato per visitarlo. Decisamente impegnativo poter esprimere un giudizio su molte delle opere esposte. A parte un Picasso ed un Modigliani e altre poche opere per il resto non ho avuto particolari sensazioni. Ma ribadisco la mia premessa...

Este museo vale mucho la pena sobre todo si te gusta el arte contemporáneo y el arte moderno que es muy entretenido. Tiene obras preciosas y tiene exposiciones temporales fantásticas. Si estás por Lisboa y tienes tiempo, en unas 3 horas te lo puedes recorrer y la entrada es bastante economica.

Bel museo di arte moderna e contemporanea!!
Ingresso economico (€5), se si vuole c'è la possibilità di prendere l'audioguida gratuita ma solo in inglese, in italiano non c'è. Sono contenta di esserci andata, sicuramente, ma forse mi aspettavo qualcosa in più sia per quanto riguarda la collezione permanente che quella temporanea!

Great collection of modern art. Currently (Sep 2019) they have a fantastic temporary exhibit on deconstructing history. Museum is right next to the Jeronimos Monastary, I would suggest seeing that first before línea get too long and then heading to the Bernardo Museum.

É pena o dono ser um dos maiores "trafulhas" portugueses. Só visito porque é gratuito em alguns dias. Está bem organizado e tem algumas obras interessantes. Se não houverem atividades direcionadas para crianças não vale a pena ir com os mais pequenos. Fraco, pouco interativo e desinteressante para a pequenada. (Trafulhas é o mesmo que dizer ladrão, corrupto)

El museo es si cuenta con obras de grandes artistas de diferentes épocas, sin embargo, la exposición de obras de 1960 hasta la actualidad (lo cual se supone, constituye la mitad del recorrido del museo como te lo venden en la entrada) se encuentra cerrada.
En realidad, a nivel arquitectónico he quedado algo decepcionado. Sin ánimo de ofender (porque no soy ingeniero ni arquitecto) considero que el edificio parece más un fuerte militar que un museo, pues aunque los espacios son amplios, el hecho de que todo esté recubierto en roca o mármol, el diseño sea tan geométrico y los muros sean tan gruesos, hacen que la estructura parezca muy pesada y rígida.
no obstante tengo que decir que disfruté mucho el hecho de haber contemplado obras de artistas como Picasso, Pierre Roy, Francis gruber, Kurt Seligmann, Oscar Domínguez y Phillip pearlstein, sin embargo en movimientos como el surrealismo creo que hace falta obras de artistas como Dalí para mejorar y dar aún más relevancia a la colección del Museo Berardo.
Aunque bien puede ser algo subjetivo (por mis inclinaciones y gustos artísticos) me gustaría ver más obras de arte figurativo.
En general, fue una visita agradable. Un museo que, sin duda, vale la pena conocer si visitas Lisboa.

No lo recomiendo, el Picasso y el Miro no lo vi por ningún lado, en una de la salas exponen un altavoz de los años 50,por el cual salía regeaton, increíble en una colección de arte, pérdida del poco encanto que le quedaba. Me quedo con el arte clásico.

Opere di arte contemporanea e dal 1960 in poi, con pezzi di Wahrol, Ernst, etc. La mostra è strutturata benissimo seguendo un ordine cronologico. La collezione si visita gratuitamente, ma ci sono anche altre esposizioni temporanee a pagamento. Il sabato invece è tutto gratis.

Inside, everything is convenient, thoughtful, for the whole museum you need about two hours. There is free Wi-Fi and be sure to check out the gift shop. Il aurait été dommage de manquer cette escapade qui semble peu prisee des touristes. Le musée Berardo accueille des œuvres de Dali, Picasso, Buren ou encore Calder. Un plaisir pour les yeux dans une architecture moderne.
Je conseille de se rendre aux jardins d'oliviers une fois la visite terminée pour prolonger le plaisir.

the art collection is good with many "big name" artists, but i found most of these works, besides a few, were of minor importance. Exhibit Soloman was very intriguing;
a major problem for myself and i'm sure a large segment of the adult population who have orthopedic problems (hips, back, feet....) or other physical ailments is that there are no seats for the visitors in any of the rooms - thus after a short time this fact hinders the pleasure of viewing and the experience becomes unpleasant, causing one to rush thru, desperate to get out of there instead of enjoying the process. I mentioned this at the reception and the person there said something to the fact that "they have discussed this in meetings". Is so then why doesn't the Director of the museum get it together and do something about this: put some 4 to 6 person benches in each room or every other room so people can relieve their pain for a moment? the use of the little fold up chairs is not a solution as you must carry this object for 4+ hours, and as well sitting on these things hurts the back as well. I ask the director if he/she have used these/carried these objects and used them for 4 hours? Try it!!!

Tiene una de las mejores colecciones de arte contemporáneo. Tiene obras realmente excepcionales. Amplio y luminoso con una disposición de las obras por estilo. Por 5 euros merece la pena su visita para disfrutar de Warhol, Basquiat, Francis Bacon, Keith Haring, entre otros. Personalmente pienso que es una buena toma de contacto con el arte contemporáneo de forma económica y en apenas un par de horas lo tienes todo visto. Además tiene un jardín exterior para poder disfrutar de una panorámica del barrio con vistas al Tajo para descansar.

Belle exposition permanente d'un grand nombre d'artistes, dans des pièces claires et de belles dimensions, les œuvres sont classées par mouvement artistiques.
Et n'en déplaise à certains grincheux, les œuvres exposées sont de très belles qualités, évidemment c'est de l'art moderne.

There's always a new exhibit that's worth seeing. I loved "purple" the International video exhibition thats been traveling around the world. The outdoor space is also really pleasant : besides the niceccoffee shop theres a garden where you can lay down, sun bath, read, or just take a nap.

The museum features an excellent selection of modern and contemporary artworks by established and emerging artists from around the world. At the time of my visit I was fortunate to see a very moving exhibition of artworks by the German Jewish painter Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943) - titled "Leben? Oder Theater?" [Life? Or Theatre?] - who was a victim of the Holocaust and documented the impacts of Nazism in the years prior to her murder at Auschwitz. Notable works from the permanent collection included Surrealist paintings by Magritte, Ernst and Miro, figural sculptures by Juan Munoz, and sculptural installation by Niki de Saint Phalle.
