Very good coffee and over the top hospitality. We came after opening hours and they even restarted the coffee machine for us. It was the best coffee throughout our whole visit in Portugal.

Para nossa visita em Sintra passamos nessa cafeteria para no nosso café da manhã.
Foi uma delícia visitar esse café muito charmoso e aconchegante, é uma casa com vários cômodos onde você escolhe o melhor lugar para tomar o seu café ou mesmo comer as delicias que são servidas do cardápio.
Pães e bolos caseiros são muito gostosos, os sanduíches são ótimos sem falar do café que é feito com muito carinho.
Não experimentei a torta de maça, mas me falaram que é excelente.
O atendimento é ótimo e os preços são compatíveis com o local.
Vale muito a visita!

Coffee is really bad. In almost boiling temperature, too much milk even for a macchiato.

I should have paid more attention to another reviewers comments about this place ripping you off. A chicken toast (with hardly any chicken, —one of the cheapest meats by the way) and a beer will set you back just over 10 Euros! (Their menu on Zomato is out-of-date by average of 1 to 2 Euros in the prices.) The bread was supposedly a rustic bread made in a charcoal oven, ... not a single trace of the typical smoky flavour notes these breads have in Portugal.
Definitely not coming back and wouldn't recommend for sure, as the food is mediocre and over-priced for what you get served, while their menu is oddly enough obscure to the establishment's benefit with adding a Euro for this bread, and then if you want it toasted it's another Euro and lots of fluff ...

A tipologia da casa é muito interessante pois como existem várias salas nunca parece muito grande e impessoal. Para além das comidas habituais existem os bolos caseiros a fatia que são muito bons. É melhor procurar um horário fora da hora de ponta dos turistas. Se for um casal, as 2 mesas a janela são muito acolhedoras.

Was there once but feel the need to tell the world about how amazing the chicken sandwich was in this café. I'm always disappointed by sandwiches when I eat out and this was _bold statement_ the best, honest to goodness sandwich I've ever paid for. We walked through the National Park after this, so we were in great form before heading for the hills. ♥

The food and overall experience was superb. We ordered two salads, some bread and olives, a bottle of wine, and two desserts. Everything tasted fresh and the salads full of flavour. Even though the place was full, the service was thankfully quick as we had a train to catch. I accompanied an attentive waitress to the desserts bar, where she gave me a run-down on each cake they had on offer that day. This was a great personal touch. Also, the slices of cakes were huge! I would have loved to have tried their coffee but we ran out of time. Given the proximity to the station and tourist spots, you would think the prices would have been outrageous. They were not. It was all very reasonable and we left very happy (and full). I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this place. The decor was also very charming.

What a happy friendly staff! Seems honestly that everyone enjoys their job and their co workers. All together such a wonderful atmosphere and experience. We throughly enjoyed a delightful gluten free baguette salmon sandwich and a large americano! We walked for hours around the city and decided to end here for a refreshing class of wine. A fabulous choice when in Sintra!

Завтракали тут три раза. Все и правда вкусно. Но вот в последний день пришли и сели за единственный свободный столик около окна. А официантка потребовала пересесть за не убранный. Аргументировала тем, что ей надо тут ходить, а ребенок будет ей мешать. Так ни разу мимо того столика не прошла, пока мы завтракали. Увольте это официантку, она отпугивает клиентов.
Вспомнил, что в первый день, хотя сводных столов было много, она все равно заставила сесть за самый дальний столик и неудобный и потребовала свернуть коляску. Во второй же день никто ничего подобного не требовал, потому что был другой прекрасный официант!
Также решили попробовать фирменный пирог, но его не оказалось. Это подпись под своим бессилием.
Поставил бы и 1 звезду, но в прошлые разы темнокожий, знающий русский язык официант. С ним все было идеально. Это ему эти пара звёзд!)

It was alright. Not a lot of options for breakfast, basically get a yoghurt or one of the many toast. There was such a cold draft as the door was being kept open. We asked the waitress for fair tuck tuck prices and she was seemingly distressed pretending not to know. She eventually said politically to rather take the bus. They also did not bother to serve tables in order. A table of six came in after we had already sat down and started having their drink before we even got our menus. The food itself was good.

Staff was incredibly nice, the food was delicious and fairly priced - the best pastel de nata I have had in Portugal!!! The waitress was kind enough to suggest I put some cinammon on top which made it even more delicious. Don't forget to stop by this cafe on your way down from the train station - you won't regret it!

Posto stupendo per fare colazione, il "Cappuccino Italiano" si chiama Galau, ed è grandissimo. Assaggiato il dolce all'arancia , carota e mandorla fatto da loro ed era super buono, super grande la fetta
Merita 5 stelle. Prezzi giusti.

Super restaurant à Sintra loin de la cohue du centre et à proximité de la gare. Des plats et desserts avec un bon rapport qualité-prix, le tout dans une ambiance conviviale.

Frequento este espaço há anos, mas ontem foi a última visita. Um café que foi sempre o mais bonito, mais típico e com excelente atendimento, foi ontem a maior desilusão de Sintra. Um café "tipicamente português", onde os empregados nos cumprimentam em inglês, onde facilitam o atendimento a estrangeiros e turistas e onde após nos sentarem quase em cima de turistas, esperei 15min. pela ementa, até me cansar e ir eu própria buscar. Um café onde neste momento nem se passa por entre as mesas, pois está de tal forma cheio que para ver a montra dos bolos tenho de pedir aos clientes que se desviem com as cadeiras. Um café onde anteriormente o menu explicava a historia e o contexto do estabelecimento e onde hoje apenas exibem os preços exorbitantes que praticam (que têm subito exponencialmente ao longo dos anos). É triste ser sintrense e ver os estabelecimentos típicos serem arrastados para os turismo e nem os empregados se lembrarem de nos cumprimentar com um bom dia. Levei imensa gente a conhecer este café e agora até tenho vergonha de o fazer. Foi mesmo uma experiência triste.

An amazing experience, being cuddled by gentle waiters and good soul-warming food. Been there twice, and both time I enjoyed the cappuccino and the beautiful cakes. Must say, if u pass by, please stop and take your time to relax.

유명한 곳이라 사람들이 많았는데, 역과 가까워서 들리기 좋음. 애프터눈티세트 먹었는데 진짜 푸짐하게 나옴. 뮤즐리 들어간 요플레 맛있었고, 이집 양이 정말 많음ㅋ 스콘 진짜 사람 얼굴만하게 나오고 커피도 짱 큰 컵에 나옴. 오렌지쥬스 맛있었고, 치즈 햄 올라간 빵 맛있었음. 스콘 포장해달라고 하니 호일에 스콘 싸고 잼과 버터 넣어서 담아줌. 밖에서 보는 것보다 실내가 넓어서 자리는 많은 편!

Good place for coffee, pastry and breakfast. Quite busy so it might be that you wait for a table but worth it. Staff is friendly. Price is a bit higher than the rest, but absolutely worth it.

So much variety! It was a wonderful place for kids too. They had a changing station..you must ask for it..and baby chairs. I loved their latte and my husbands cappuccino was really good as well. Everything is made in the bakery so it’s very fresh. They were so helpful with every order and very nice people. I highly recommend you visit.

cafe Saudade加了煉乳和奶泡，味道獨特好喝，apple pie裡面滿滿蘋果，上面裹著一層用煉乳做成的慕斯或奶油霜，非常香甜，建議配上茶或是不加糖的咖啡。

Lovely café, always busy, a bit noisy thus not conducive to a romantic setting or working quietly "in a corner". The service is usually prompt and friendly. Prices - affordable. The menu is not as varied as in other places, however it covers most tastes for a basic, light re-fuelling.

Saudade is a great place to go once in a while and share a Scone XL or a slice of cake. There's a lot of pastry variety. The service is efficient but a little snobbish, otherwise the review would be 5 stars

It’s a great place to get some energy for a sightseeing trip through Sintra. Of course it’s also good to go there afterwards. The train station is really close by. I had a sandwich with gluten-free bread which was delicious. The coffee and tee options are good as well and you could order vegan milk if you want. The staff is very attentive and friendly.

We got there about 45 minutes to close and they sat us in (what we later found out to be) the 'cheese room.' The room was a space to behold. It features:
1) A slanted floor
1A) entirely too much floor drainage (?!)
2) weird ceramic stuff all over the place (bowls, platters, an ebony and ivory set of chickens, an aligator
3) exposed wiring
3A) a fire alarm that is literally suspended by exposed frayed wires and that appears to have already been in a fire
4) 2 tables total, so I hope you like your neighbor.
5) a shared hallway with the kitchen so you get to hear them clean and bus dishes the entire time
When traveling, I really try not to be stuck up about food. And truly, the food itself was pretty good (if a little on the expensive side - they upcharge you 1.25 euro to heat your sandwich). It is simply inexplicable how that dining room came to be in existence. In my entire life, I have never before had to ask wait staff 'what' a room was. The front dining room is fine, so clearly someone knew what a normal restaurant looks like. Simply off-putting.

Endroit très agréable pour manger un repas sur le pouce équilibré ou déguster de bonnes pâtisseries maison avec un bon café. Nous avons pris une quiche avec salade. La quiche est délicieuse et la salade accompagnée de tomate (délicieuses !), crouton, oignon rouge et mozzarella est ultra fraîche. Les prix son très raisonnables pour un endroit où les attrape-touristes sont légions.

Ok cafe, we had a quiche and salad, and ham and cheese sandwich. The food was ok but nothing out of this world and average. Service was a bit slow and when paying had to wait for the two women at the till to finish their conversation before we could pay.

Wir waren sowohl zum Frühstück als auch für einen kleinen Snack am Nachmittag. Die Kuchen waren einzigartig. Vor allem der bolo saudade war ein Gedicht. Es handelt sich um einen Kuchen mit Äpfeln, Nüssen und Bananen. Wir bekamen riesen Stücke serviert. Am Nachmittag aßen wir ein menu aus Oliven, Sardinen und Käse mit Rotwein. Es war deutlich mehr als nur ein Appetizer.
Das Personal war superfreundlich.

Following the many positive reviews we saw, we decided to go to Saudade. The interior is cute but we had to call on the waitress for her to attention, and while we speak a little Portuguese, she made it clear that she did not want to make any efforts and would just ask us in English.
The first 3 dishes arrived fast but it took my sandwich 30 minutes to arrive, after having to ask 3 different people. We were considering ordering desert but again it took so long to have any service that we decided to try our luck somewhere else. And then, even going at the counter to pay took forever.
Great place if you like waiting and not eating at the same time.

"Saudade" bem... difícil de exprimir em palavras uma experiência tão agradável.
Começa pela rentabilização do espaço onde cada recanto é um pedaço de história.
A decoração fantástica.
Bem ... difícil é exprimir os sabores, os aromas que fluem pelas salas e torna esta experiência a cada momento mais supreendente. Depois temos todo o staff super atencioso torna esta experiência numa ambiente único e familiar.
Variedade de degustações com sabores portugueses únicos.

Famosa per i migliori scones della zona di Sintra, "Saudade" e' un distillato della cultura portoghese. Tra i lavatoi della ex fabbrica di queijadas, dove ora si trova "Saudade", e l'apparecchiata di ceramiche dalle forme piu' svariate, ti delizia il profumo di "appena sfornato" di prodotti casarecci formato XL. Opzioni come il brunch inglese, una semplice prima colazione, snacks o piatti genere "tavola calda" sono a portata sia degli ospiti dello Chalet Saudade che dei clienti. Il personale gentile e sempre disponibile. Suggerisco di provare lo scone speciale ai frutti rossi, da prendere in 2. Da provare anche i travesseiros di Sintra, un dolce di pasta sfoglia ripieno di una crema di mandorle..

Best Sandwich I have eaten in a long time. Iberian ham with goat cheese on caco bread. Tea with orange peel and cinnamon also to recommend. Cozy place with couches and comfy chairs. Wide selection of homebaked Portuguese goodness and biggest scones I have seen in my life :)

Bonito lugar pero la atención pésima. Totalmente surrealista. Llegamos tres personas y pedimos un café para cada uno y la camarera nos trae siete u ocho diferentes bebidas. Evidentemente decimos que se ha confundido y comienza a echarnos la culpa a nosotros de malas maneras por lo que entiendo que su jefa viene a nuestro sitio a apartarla y arreglar la situación. A continuación trae nuestros cafés correctamente pero con una cara y expresión de odio y amenaza que rozaba la absurdez. Posteriormente, cada vez que se cruzaba con nosotros nos buscaba la mirada para mirarnos desafiantemente. Este lugar fue la nota discordante de nuestro agradable viaje a Portugal.

Sabem aqueles espaços maravilhosos que nos entram pelo imaginário dentro quando vemos imagens da Inglaterra provincial ou que nos eram transmitidas pelos livros antigos? Esta casa de chá (muito mais do que um simples café) é o exemplo ao vivo e a cores, bem junto ao centro histórico de Sintra, mas longe da confusão da Piriquita e vizinhança. A localização é privilegiada, basicamente a 10 passos da Estação de Comboios, o que até permite a quem vive nos subúrbios de Lisboa apenas deslocar-se para comprar algumas fatias de qualquer um dos maravilhosos bolos caseiros que todos os dias são feitos (guilty pleasure here!). A selecção de chás abrange qualquer aroma e sabor - o que torna tudo ainda mais delicioso - e o ambiente é claramente acolhedor e calmo, mesmo nos dias mais frios, ventosos e húmidos, que só a Serra da Lua e o Mar ali atrás, podem conferir a Sintra. Aconselho a qualquer turista entrar e demorar-se - independentemente depois descerem a rua e subirem até ao centro, e a todos os restantes mortais, a repetirem a experiência.

Lizbon gezimde iki kez Sinatra'ya gittim. Böyle bir yer bilseydim Sinatra'ya Lizbon'dan daha fazla vakit ayırırdım. Zira buram buram tarih ve doğa var Sintra'da. İki gidişimde kahvaltı olarak sandviç yediğim yer burası. Eminim diğer yemekleri de iyidir. Ancak sandviçi mutlaka sıcak olarak yemenizi tavsiye ederim. What an amazing experience! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everything was perfect. We stopped for a simple snack and were amazed on how great the food is. The manager of the restaurant is exceptional. She takes care of everyone and everything. When you visit Sintra, this is a must do on your list. Everyone was amazing!

We loved this cafe so much that we took breakfast and lunch here 3 days of our 7 day trip. The food and drinks were always fresh and absolutely delicious. Prices and service are good. The atmosphere is so cozy as well. I wish I could take this place home with me!

Food was average. The chicken sandwich and the mozzarella sandwich was nothing mind blowing but used fresh ingredients. The scone was average. All the portion sizes were quite big despite the competitive price.
However, it took very long for us to get a table despite there being many free ones as the staff took an extremely long time to clean them up. We ended up waiting for 25 minutes instead of the 10 minutes they initially told us. Also, the waitress forgot 2 of the dishes despite writing it down. The staff were friendly but not very good at their job.

If you search for a place to eat breakfast in Sintra this is what comes up in first place. Most of the times this would mean it is a tourist trap, but not Cafe Saudade!!
It is busy, sure, even in october when I went. But the staff makes every effort to accomodate everybody. The pastries are amazing, portions are large, coffee is tasty. I honestly cannot find anything that is not perfect. If you find yourself craving for some sweets, give this place a try!!

An interesting old building (cheese processor vats and tables still intact). Good quality food at reasonable prices. Attentive staff.
Had a light lunch of yoghurt parfait, toasted ham & croissant and spinach soup.

La qualité est vraiment là, ceci dit il faudra mettre la main au porte monnaie . . . Un lieu atypique à seulement 1 minute de la gare ( en direction du centre historique )

Un sitio que merece la pena ver y disfrutar. Cafe y comida excelentes, nos alojamos en el Hotel Saudade y el desayuno lo sirven en este cafe, y es espectacular. O aspeto que se destaca é o tamanho daquilo que servem, até o café americano (<=> abatanado) vem numa chave na gigante. Em relação à comida passa-se o mesmo. Mas como nem sempre o grande é sinal de melhor... a torrada era grande mas era só isso, uma fatia de bolo que pedi era grande, mas já tinha vários dias, inadmissível! Safou-se o café que era bom. Como fui fazer um brunch não gostei da experiência pois não deu para variar e aí o brunch virou p.a. normal.

We stayed nearby at Chalet Saudade and breakfast at the cafe was included with our room. Boy, what a treat! It's bustling and cozy, with an amazingly beautiful pastry case to feast your eyes on. The staff was incredibly warm and kind, and the food and drinks were delicious! Great selection and very well prepared. Do yourself a favor and order the apple pie w custard on top if you see it. I've been daydreaming about it since we returned home, and I can't wait to go back!

Such a sweet place ! Several vegan options but they should add vegan pastry and desserts as well. Very nice staff, cosy atmosphere, cozy. I've been there twice and ate a vegan pumpkin soup and bought organic framboises which were terrific then came later to drink vegan hot chocolate. A really good moment in the breathtaking sintra. Go there.

Delicious sandwiches, hot peasant in particular. Orange peel and cinnamon tea was warming and refreshing, especially on a wet day. And not to forget the pasteis de nata which were scrumptious. Friendly service too.

A true gem in Sintra! Delicious breakfast, so much to choose from, varying from (healthy) classics to classics with an original twist to authentic local options. AMAZING service! I had fallen right before going to this breakfast bar and they immediately came over with bandaids, etc. To clean the wounds (without me asking). A place where kindness and an authentic smile still mean something. Additionally, some history fans might appreciate the rooms in the back where they used to make cheese for royalty.

Cute cafe to stop by for coffee or tea and food or pastries. It has a tea house vibe offering coffee/tea sets and scones. They also offer a variety of sandwiches and traditional Portuguese pastries. I tried the sardine sandwich and it was divine!! Prices are affordable and portion sizes are huge! Lattes are served in these tall cups and scones on a large dinner plate. The restaurant is also kids friendly. I saw that they have toys for children. I only spent a day in Sintra and can't really compare with the rest of Sintra eateries. But based on the quality of their food, it is great option for a delicious breakfast or lunch. Also, there is wifi!

Hemos desayunado aquí y es difícil elegir entre tantísimo dulce apetitoso. Las porciones de bizcocho son enormes, así que no es necesario pedir más de una para coger fuerzas. Subo una foto de la 'media tostada' para advertiros que 'media tostada' son seis trozos de pan quizá no nos han entendido bien!

I absolutely loved this place. I had the chicken panini and it was literally one of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. I would be eating here everyday if I was close by. Slow service for just ok food even for a touristy area. They were short staffed and we waited 10min for a table considering it wasn't that busy with several tables unoccupied. We only got seated when i made a comment to another guest waiting behind us. Ordered 2 sandwiches - one chicken, one salmon. For desert an apple pie. The pie took a while but was out first. The sandwiches took 32min and others after us got served first. The sandwiches were average, but the salmon mushy and had no taste. Same with the chicken. But we were hungry so that gave it some flavor along with the onions. The apple pie was really more a dry-ish bread and if I closed my eyes I wouldn't know it's apple.
But yes, they charge extra to place it in the panini press for 3 out of the 30min it took for a sandwich.

Splendido locale dove abbiamo fatto una colazione divina. Servizio eccellente le ragazze veramente amorevoli e cordiali ci hanno accolto divinamente. Le torte tutte di qualità e fatte artigianali erano una prelibatezza ed anche il cappuccino era squisito. É un po' più caro del solito bar ma dopo la scadente se non penosa colazione del hostel preso per visitare la zona di Sintra almeno abbiamo iniziato bene la nostra giornata impegnativa di visite.
2 torte e due cappuccini 13 euro. Ma ne valgono anche di più per la cortesia e la bontà di quel che abbiamo assaporato.

El cafe más bonito de Sintra. Su ambientación es puro amor, sentimiento, relajación y románticismo. Sin duda es un regalo para la vista. No te vayas sin pasear de camino al baño por sus salitas, merece la pena llenar las retinas!!!!

A tester absolument ! On y mange copieusement un prix très adorable, des sandwichs généreux et pour plaire a tous (végétariens inclus, avis aux amateurs de houmous!), avec des desserts renversants, tout aussi généreux. Toute la familles ressort ravie et bien calée, pour un prix largement raisonnable. On aime aussi la possibilité d'acheter des petits objets artisanaux colorés en guise de souvenir, ainsi que des petites spécialités culinaires (biscuits...). Seul regret : ne pas avoir cette adresse chez soi !!
Nb : kids-friendly, puisqu'il y a des petits jouets en accès libre pour les bambins, toujours appréciable pour les faire attendre !

Espaço muito agradável, com uma excelente atenção ao cliente e produtos de excelência. Os bolos são sempre muito frescos. Nota para a generosidade da fatia de bolo de cenoura com chocolate. A repetir sem dúvida.

Mais uma boa pastelaria estragada pelo turismo... ambiente tipo metro de Tóquio em hora de ponta... cheia de turistas e a preços (absurdos...) para turista...

Я искренне не понимаю за что людям нравится это место - был здесь три раза, и каждый раз не вкусно - кофе разбавленный молоком, пить невозможно( всегда приходится ждать долго своего заказа. Вайфай не работает. Традиционные португальские сэндвичи здесь продают по цене в три, а то и в четыре раза дороже чем в других кафе. Единственное что здесь хорошо - это интерьер, но на этом заканчиваются все плюсы, увы я думаю третий раз был последним, я не хочу снова возвращается сюда и никому не посоветую.

Wunderschönes kleines Cafe im portugiesischen Stil, in der Nähe des Bahnhofes, die leckersten Sandwiches der Gegend und selbstgemachte Getränke. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auch für jeden, der zum Castelo dos Mouros möchte und vorher etwas essen will.

Kleines Café welches wirklich leckere und vorallem frische kleine Speisen bietet. Vom heißen Sandwich bis zum wirklich leckeren Croissant ist alles dabei.
Preise sind für die relativ großen Portionen auch angemessen.

Attention au menu, ils sont très gros pour 1 personne mais délicieux. Le prix bien que parfois un peu chère, est largement justifier par la qualité.

Amazing food, had the biggest scone I’ve ever seen (which tasted amazing btw) and the coffee cups are the cutest. Overall really pleasant experience.

If you visit Sintra, you have to go to breakfast at this cafeteria. They have a variety of types of coffee, toast, and desserts. The cost-price ratio is correct, although it may seem expensive, the quality is very good.
Besides, you can go around inside the cafeteria, it is huge and has many cool things to see.

Ordered a scone, a nata and a soy milk latte. The scone is surprisingly big! It is 8times bigger than the normal English scone so make sure you have someone to share with.... The nata was alright, cripsy enuf. Latte is a mehhhhh but it is humongous for just 1.8€

The food was good, not great or wonderful just great. The staff was friendly but I didn’t liked that they come to ask to pay the bill while we were eating! That’s a unprofessional approach! I don’t even bother to ask for dessert due to that factor. And it’s annoying when they don’t have what it’s written in the menu, like the CACO bread that was there reason why my girlfriend cAme here. Besides that they have me a papel menus with clear marks of dirty oil on it... overall it’s a good place to eat but I didn’t have the best experience they can provide.

Opens at 8am, not 830 as stated here. prices are quite high. An americano is 2.50€, a slice of quiche 4.50€? Brunch, which is typical Euro stuff like yogurt, a coffee, a apple pie, fruit juice was ridiculous at 19.20€. Quality, service and ambiance are good, but the price kills it for me.

This lovely place is the first thing that meets you as you walk from the sintra train station to sintra center. Great place for coffee and a quick bite or a little something sweet. Walk around and take a look at the old washing room now an art gallery with fabulous knick knacks to buy. Fun staff and a large variety of seating areas, indoor and outdoor.

I used to love Café Saudade. Then I went there for breakfast yesterday and waited 40 minutes for two coffee with milk and a couple of toasted sandwiches. Don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon. A business that lives purely out of the fact that they’re in a super touristy area, but fail to deliver adequate service - thanks, but no thanks. Also quite expensive for what you get. Food and coffee were good but not worth the price and the wait.

En nuestra estancia en Sintra desayunamos dos veces, sin que nos pillara cerca del hotel.
Muy recomendable un pan con mantequilla que tienen y alguno de los bizcochos.
Todo muy rico, aunque a precio turista.

Poor service. Waiting 10 min. outside for the waitress to pick up the orders. We thought its quicker when we go inside...but no. She starts to clean tables around us as we are 15 min. waiting to place the order. Lack of customer service, disappointing

Very good service, friendly waitresses and good selection in the menu. Their Pastel de natas are also one of the better.
