The museum is permanently closed whilst Google and some tourist websites show it is open. We read about this museum on several websites and planned to visit it. Went for 1 hour using Google maps through half of Lisbon; then arrived to the building which is all covered by scaffolding and closed. We were very upset! Google, please update the working hours to permanently closed!

The museum is set in a former bank building, which still retains a lot of the original structure. You can even enter the real caveau, passing through a gigantic steel door. The exhibition I visited was very interesting, with pieces mainly acquired from theatres in Lisbon. The space is well-lit and well-designed, and it's a pleasure to visit.

This museum is free. The labeling is excellent and in English. The exhibition we saw is a great review of design in the 20th century moving into the 21st century.

Free design museum near the square. It's actually a collection of vintage everyday items that were notable for some reason or other. The upstairs section has some historical artifacts that are more relevant to Portugal. Interesting but not really a place you can spend more than an hour at most.

A visitar

stuffs collected from all over the world in a theme and chronological order. Very good for nurturing a love for design in your kids. Ah and one more thing. It's always free!

Design exhibition on the ground floor provides a nice overview of various styles and periods. We found the other floors less interesting. Unfortunately we didn't know about the vault - make sure to ask if it's open, it seems to be very popular.

Interesting expositions and always free. If you get to see the underground vault, rarely open, you're in for a treat.

#FREEMUSEUM The exhibitions are quite normal but the building is spectacular. It is the former bank that Portugal used for manage its wealth at the colonies. If you have 10 mins free, please come here and go to the basement where is the vault room of the bank, the room's systems, although are not used any more, are in perfect conditions.

Freier Eintritt!

Great museum experience. Covers some of the design classics from the XXth century. The building is also a delight. Most of the exhibitions are free, although on some of the temporary exhibitions an admission fee must be paid.

MUDE (Lisbon Design and Fashion Museum) is a home for all design forms. A space where people can meet and consider design, do research into its artefacts, developing an editorial policy, a temporary programme and educational activity. But it is also a space for experimentation and creation, for presenting the proposals of new creators, encouraging new research and creating dialogues with the visual arts and architecture, the cinema and dance, music and science. the museum is conceived as a dynamic, experimental, open and innovative project that local and foreign visitors can follow. A major boost for the reinvention of downtown Lisbon, an active force pulsing through the city’s main artery, in the heart of the Baixa Pombalina, contributing to its long awaited and very necessary urban redevelopment work, as well as towards the culture of creativity and innovation that is increasingly characterising our cities. We are talking about a museum that is generating a network with cultural institutions, universities, companies, studios and shops, museums, involving the community of designers, artists, architects and curators in the development of a new urban cultural centre. That is why we gave the name MUDE, which means ‘change’ in Portuguese, highlighting the museum’s wish to redesign the concept of a design museum and searching for new forms of management, communication and urban development. FREE entry.

The exihibitions were cool, bit the former bank that housed them is cool as well - the bank vaults are a sight to see!
