An interesting small (4 sections) museum in an old building with kind respectful staff. It is free on the first Saturday of the month. It is inside a very old building when you walk you can feel the woods cracking underneath your feet. It has a collection of ancient fossil representation, and one part is for the remainings of human civilization in Portugal, including bones, skull, and ruins of utensils used by ancient people. In the last part of the museum there are different types of stones and salt formations. I was alone on my visit and no one else was there so i could take my time slowly visiting every where and it take at least one hour to look at everything. Unfortunately they don’t have a shop to be able to get some memorie. Just postcards which were only 4 types of fossil pictures. Not so much interesting. But the price is 0.5 €. The overall being old the building will highlight the ancient atmosphereof the museum. However from technical point of view i think the building needs a renovation at least at some points. The descriptions were mainly portuguese but like almost 10% of descriptions were translated, so i couldn’t use fully from my visit (though its my fault not knowing portuguese) I recommend this museum if you are in the field of sciences and or living in Portugal and want to have a nice educational day.

Um dos museus mais importantes de Lisboa, contudo pouco visitado, vale bastante a pena pela raridade das peças, o preço é simplesmente simbólico, vai aos 2.5€ no máximo. Aconselho bastante

This is a place for geology. The exhibition is diverse in many eras. Also it represented the geological history in Portugal. Really a great place for expanding knowledge. Recommended.

The best place to see fossils in Lisbon. Overall much nicer and fun than the museum of natural history. Plenty of dinosaur bones, shark teeth and other fossils on display. Not particularly modern, however.

Muito interessante mas pouco divulgado. A entrada é discreta, num 2o andar. O espaço das exposições, talvez por ser um edifício antigo, não tem aspecto de ser renovada há muito tempo.

Beautiful museum, full of incredible artifacts, fossils and more! It goes far beyond geology, to include evolution (including humans), scientific history, and art. Well worth the visit!

If you are the least bit interested in geology, paleoanthropology, or paleontology please visit this museum. It has SO much to look at! It's curated to give you glimpses at many many many artifacts. It's amazing. And if you're kids are into Dinosaurs, then there are enough bones and fossils here to make their heads spin. Love this museum. Will be back next visit. Highly Recommend.

Falta mais algumas atrações atualizadas. Principalmente para crianças, deve ser algo mais atraente no sentido tecnológico.

If you are nearby it is compulsory to visit the Geological Museum of Portugal. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon. Visits on the first Saturday of each month are free of charge. Normal entrance fee 5 euros for adults and 2.5 euros for children upto 18 years old and seniors.

Underrated little museum. Should be a must for families. Very organized but mostly in Portuguese and some English. I recommend.

The museum is relatively expensive for what you're getting. 5 euros for spending about 10 or 15 minutes inside is not really worth it. It's only good if you're truly interested in geology. If you're going for the fossils and bone specimens you don't need to spend much more time in here. It is a pity that most, if not all, plaques and descriptions are exclusively in Portuguese.

Cheap, not crowded ( I was alone ) it is worth the visit. Some very impressive pieces. 150 to 500 millions years old impressive....

Museu um pouco vintage, sem grande investimento mas com coleção de interesse. É um espaço parado no tempo, um pouco bafiento, mas cheio de charme, com música clássica como fundo, e algumas peças muito boas. Falta contudo uma seleção e o bilhete não é barato (5 euros)

Um museu parado no tempo. Falta algum cuidado e orientação... Mas a colecção é muito interessante.

Must be a great place for geography buffs. 98% or so of all the info is in Portuguese only so without the guide, not too interesting / self-evident. Nevertheless we spent about 1.5 hr on the premises and were the only 2 visitors at the time. To get to the museum you should ascend to the 2nd floor; not too obvious either.

É uma pena que um prédio histórico e lindo como o da Academia das Ciências tenha o acesso dificultado de todas maneiras possíveis. Pra visitar as instalações apenas com marcação previa com grupo de 10 pessoas, o museu geológico custa 5 euros, a biblioteca só abre Seg quarta e sexta. É realmente um espaço reservado apenas às elites, e não das pessoas.

Bel posto, situato in una vecchia villa che dà su un parco bellissimo, non particolarmente grande, tutto disposto con delle vecchie teche in legno, Presenta materiale di natura più archeologica che geologica. Fantastica una testa completa di coccodrillo, comprensiva di tutta la dentatura. Imperdibile la stele romana dove sono raccolte le norme per uno sfruttamento regolamentato delle cave e miniere. Penso che sia l'unico museo che abbia visitato in vita mia dotato di bagni con il bidet!

We had a pleasant visit at the museum and saw a huge variety of fossils, minerals, crystals and artifacts. The only negative thing was that there was not as much information in English but if you don't want to know everything about every little specimen at the museum this place is worth a visit!

The museum is quie excellent! If you are interested in fossils and minerals it is THE place to go. There are very curious dinosaur bones (of gigantic plant eater for instance). It also offers a great variety of artefacts from early Man (e.g. tools. jewelery). Prehistoric plants, insects, crustaceans, a dog from the Stone Age, you name it. Highly recommended!

o melhor museu de fosseis da cidade

Uma referência cultural portuguesa. Tem um belíssimo Salão Nobre.

A small museum which should be better taken care of, as it has some great treasures. As it is not interactive unfortunately it will not be appropriate for small children.

Lisboa está repleta de história e a Academy of Sciences é um outro lugar para adicionar ao seu itinerário. Bem decorados com mobiliário clássico e pinturas, o Great Hall é simplesmente lindo, com pinturas no tecto e reservar casos cheia de livros que eu suponho que estão cheios de literatura científica. Poupe 30 minutos e definitivamente visitar esta atração.

O local indicado é o prédio da Imprensa Nacional e não do Museu!
