What a great evening of genuine Portuguese hospitality, food and fado. A three course meal with wine and coffee is included in the price per person. Enjoy the "shells on" langoustines! The fado began at 9.00pm with a beautiful voiced young lady (who's name I didn't catch) followed by the wonderful Augusto Ramos both accompanied by two amazing guitarists who also played without the singers. My wife and I were celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and both singers and the staff sang "feliz snniversario" to the tune of "happy birthday". A memorable evening in every way. Thank you Maria da Mouraria. Roger and Maggie Lincoln

Grilled fish and pork were the best we had in Lisbon. We enjoyed the outdoor seating area very much. Sadly when we arrived around 8:30pm on a Friday night, there was no tables left indoors so we could not hear any Fado music.

On recommande vivement

An absolutely STUNNING night of food, wine, and Fado. Prepare yourself for a three+ hour night. We came around 9pm for our dinner reservation. Enjoyed some entrades to start and a great glass of house wine. The first show began and it was quite good. The intermissions in-between shows and different platings can be quite lengthy, I would advise getting to know your seatmates and it'll make time fly by! The meal is FANTASTIC! I had the Lisbon steak and my partner had the stew of the day. This place is probably a better choice than anything locale in the Alfama. It'll feel less touristy and more authentic, you'll see what I mean. Advise you to get a reservation as the locale is small and provides an intimate experience that truly can't be missed!!!

Posto intimo e caldo, personale molto gentile e professionale.

Great experience. Our group was invited here by the locals and I believe we were all very happy with all the food - we tried and shared a lot of different traditional dishes. I liked the ambient and fado performances. And the service of course.

Vriendelijke bediening. Prijs voor een avond € 50 per persoon. Reserveren noodzakelijk. Erg leuk!

If you visit Lisbon you definitely have to go to a Fado house and this one had great reviews. And what an experience. Lovely cosy place, great food, friendly and attentive service and also great music. A great local experience that I’d totally recommend. A must.

I've been to a few Fado places over the years, and this place was easily the most happy-making. The food wasn't incredible, but it was tasty, well cooked and listen, you're there for the atmosphere and the music. The starters were plentiful, the wine kept flowing and the music was passionate, soulful and exquisite. But best of all it actually felt like 'folk' music, in that it was music by folk for folk, and not by a business for tourists. Seriously the nicest night out we've had, and very relaxed. Go with friends.

Maybe our best memory of our trip to Portugal. For 50 euros, a diner all included in a cozy ambiance, with a bottle of wine and a homemade infusion, and especially great singing. The staff is doing all they can to entertain and please you. The food is great and copious. Be sure to have cash as they don't take credit card.

Attrape touriste!!

Delicious prawns, and all of fado dinner. Exquisit service and pretty location (Little plaza) surronded by local society (noisy yet friendly). That is probably as close as a tourist can get to touch a real Lisbon. The barbecue run outside sets the scent entourage to complete the scene. A small incomvenience of only cash payment is not enough to lower the 5 star rating.

As first time visitors to Portugal, experiencing the food, music, and wine here was an absolute joy. Our big, transatlantic group felt very welcome and looked after all night, the service was flawless. Some of us were struggling with the heat and we were given wee fans to cool ourselves down with, a touch that made us really feel we were eating with friends. Thank you for sharing what you do with us, hopefully we'll be back some day!

We had a wonder evening!! :) From the beginning the hosts were very nice. The food was tasty and the Fado show excellent. We stayed for 3 rounds of Fado and it was worth it. It.s really a hidden Gem of Lisboa.

It's absolutely amazing! Was worth going here just for that place. Fado was breath-taking. Food is nice, waiters are so friendly and charming, you can't even call that service, it's like being a welcome guest in your friends' house. The place is very atmospheric, where you can feel that you are in Portugal. Not enough words to describe impressions. As for practical tips, the minimum consumption per person is 25€, cash only. The waiter explains everything in the very beginning. You should book a table, because the place is not big. They also explained how it worked on the phone when I was booking. Thank you for the beautiful evening!

This is fado. Centenary house with typical food at the very centre of the city of Lisbon. You wanna eat and ear sing Fado. Come here. Not cheap.

This restaurant was recommended as the place to go for a great meal and fado performance. We were told that you needed to phone and make a reservation as the room was small and filled quickly. We did this and were informed that the reservation was for 20:30. What they neglected to tell us was that there was a 25 euro minimum charge per person and the fado performance didn’t start until 21:30. We got to the restaurant at the reservation time and were told about the minimum charge but nothing about the fado start time. To make a long story short we had to wait until after 23:00 to hear two short performances and ended up paying far too much for an average meal. To give credit where it is due the fado performances were good but not worth it. On top of this we were charged for a more expensive entree than we received and had to get the bill corrected. I believe this was attempted because we are English speaking and the bill was in Portugueses. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

John Dunlea

Definitely a “local” feel. Cash only. Small space and probably hard to get a table on a busy night but we were two and happened to grab the last table. Definitely worth trying to call ahead. The fado was fabulous! The codfish dish that is at the table when you sit down is SUPERB! We ordered a second one it was so good. The street that this restaurant is on feels like it is a well known local spot so a good place to soak in Lisbon with the locals.

Intimate setting and amazing talents are showcased including the owner who is a Fado singer. Male sure to reserve bc the place is small. Show starts around 9-9:30 pm and goes until 1 am or later so be ready to be there for a while enjoying the food and the shows. 25 Euro minimum consumption per person.

Soirée Fado en couple. Cadre très intimiste. 7 tables seulement.

Masha Pasenchuk

Great Fado experience. The place is super small so it feels like they're singing for you personally. The musicians were really good. Food was ok, nothing extraordinary. Prices are reasonable compared to some other fado places (bread and sides, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 beers and water were €92 total. This place doesn't charge a cover like some other fado restaurants. They do have a minimum. Either 25 or 35 per person). If you're looking for the culinary experience of your life, don't go here. If you're looking for a nice cozy dinner with Fado music, do go here and enjoy!

We chose this place because it said it is suppoted by Museo do Fado so we thought it has to be good fado. Reviews said it is overpriced with average food but we were going for the music. There is a minimum consummation of 25€ per person. The man we talked to insisted we make the reservation at 20:30 since the Fado show starts at 21:30 and told us there would be several shows. I agreed to this since I knew we had to be quiet during the singing and supposed we had to be done with lunch by 21:30. We actually were in time for the reservation (silly us), the first ones to arrive and by the time everyone else came (around 21:10) we were midway through the first course. The singing actually started around 21:45 and lasted 12 minutes on the clock (music was good but way too short) followed by a 45 minutes brake. During the brake we just stood there with a glass of wine in front of us. Even the house wine is really overpriced (14€ a bottle!!! Of house wine, nothing special or fancy. All other bottled are 20€ or more). Food is average, not horrible but realy overpriced. The cheapest fish dish is 14€ and it's some kind of pastry with a shrimp inside. So 45 minutes later the show started again. I read somewhere that during the singing you are supposed to stay quiet and listen, maybe sip from a glass of wine but the friends of the singer were at the table next to the guitar players clinging the fork and knive and eating as they were late and probably hungry because they were late. They could not wait for 14 minutes, that is how long lasted the second Fado singing period. After this we left, we were not in the mood to spend more money for overpriced food and wine... And less than 15 minutes of Fado. It is quite clear their main aim is to take as much money from you as possible and it is the only feeling we got from them. We chose this place to spend our last night of our honeymoon in Lisbon and would not recommend it ! I do hope there are better places to listen to Fado and regret deeply we spent our money and most important our time here.

O ambiente estava bom.

Upscale restaurant located in the traditional area of Mouraria. The restaurant is very small (only 6 tables) and popular, reservation is a must if you would like to dine here. The staff is absolutely friendly and professional. During dinner you have traditional Fado exhibitions. Vast selection of wines. Food not as good as I expected, we had the classic Portuguese bacalao. Overall a nice evening. Definitely recommended for the atmosphere.

We had a great time, once we found the place; we actually walked up to it and turned around because we didn't know it was just past the man with the sardine mustache. The food was all delicious, we had great service and the Fado was superb!

I've been to over 40 countries now, and I must admit this was possibly the best dining experience I've ever had. Andre hosted us the entire evening with fantastically delicious food, music and humour. The dishes ranged from Portuguese tapas (of which plenty), a couple of main dishes plus five different desserts. Needless to say this was accompanied by plenty of both red and white wine. Fado music was touchingly performed by four different artists. We even had the opportunity of meeting the chef, a young charismatic man that carefully crafted our dishes. Strongly recommend the place for an authentic evening in the heart of the birthplace of Fado music.

€35 for a carafe of wine, tapas, appetizers, main dish and desert with live Fado music. Hard to find but worth trip.

Small and upscale restaurant. It is very crowded, so reservation is needed. Tasty food but a bit overpriced. There is life fado during the dinner. The staff is friendly but slow

Maria da Mouraria is perhaps a little bit difficult to find, but definitely worth a visit if you are looking for an authentic dinner with live Fado music. And don't forget to order a Portuguese wine to go with the food - ask the waiter, I was more than happy with his recommendation, the brilliant Albarinho Quinta de Golães. When I was visiting Lisbon, I asked my Airbnb host for recommendations near his apartment. On the first day, my friend and I ended up at one of those places, Maria da Mouraria. The restaurants looks modern, and a little bit arty with its simple, yet carefully chosen interior design. It seemed that most guests who were around that evening were friends or family of the people running the place. I immediately liked the restaurant Maria da Mouraria, but if you are vegetarian, you will probably only have a pretty limited choice. And something to keep in mind is that they do not accept cards, so you have to pay in cash. not big on vegetarian food, if that is a concern. We started with some bread and tasty cheese, that was already provided on the table. Soon, the waiter asked what we would like to drink, and recommended an excellent Albarinho white wine, Quinta de Golães, from the North of Portugal. The wine was very good with nice mineral notes and a hint of sweetness. They only sell wine by the bottle, but if you get a wine like this, you are happy that you have an entire bottle - even my friend, who is not the biggest wine fan, really enjoyed drinking this Alvarinho. For my main I went with a local classic, Lisbon beef steak. As recommended, I ordered it medium, but the thin slice arrived more well-done than medium. However, this was not an issue for me, because it still was very delicious. The steak came with beautiful crispy fries and in a nice, herby, a tiny bit spicy sauce. My friend ordered some fush dish and was also very happy with her choice. After the mains, we selected chocolate cake and chocolate mousse as desserts. The chocolate mousse was strong in chocolate flavour and an absolute pleasure to eat. Around 21:30, two men with guitars and a singer arrived to play some Fado, traditional Portuguese music. I thought it they played well and it felt authentic. It was interesting to listen to different sets with three different singers. Afterwards, I read that apparently the first ever Fado singer is said to have lived at this place. And now they rebuilt the house and it's a lovely little restaurant. Maria da Mouraria is a great restaurant in Lisbon, hidden away in a small street. The food is delicious and they have excellent wines. In addition, you might be lucky and they have live Fado music on. You could argue that it is perhaps a bit pricey, but overall I think you get a nice, authentic dinner experience with friendly service. At the end, it was totally worth it.
