O melhor lugar do mundo para quem gosta do fado

The main thing I wanted to do in Lisbon was hear Fado. A few people recommended this place. I was by myself and did not want to do the dinner so I went around 11:30 pm. When I got there it it looked pretty full in the tiny space and a guy said music would start soon. And told me to wait. A little bit later he gestured me to a table. As I was walking toward it, another woman started talking to him and convinced him to give her the table and left me standing there. I just spent all this money taking a taxi to get there and ended up having to get back in a taxi and go back to where I was staying. I was so disappointed and mad at the people there. So now I have missed my one chance to hear Fado and wasted a bunch of money on top of it. What a great Friday night.

Its tempting how they sale everything to you in the beginning, but once you sit on the table, things become different... first of all its a set menu and very, verrrry limited choices. But once we have asked for more "appetizers" which are bread with spread- oh its finished because kitchen its too small to cook more, the waiter said. Then the main course is- eat it or you have no choice. And once it comes to deserts, we asked 2 simply 2 each, indeed we good 3 of 1 and fresh fruits plate was shaved orange only orange. I asked for more, when a waiter said- desserts finished, i told him back- ok money finished too. Honestly, Lisbon have much better places to go. Do not waist your time for this bollshit.

Un très bon lieu pour découvrir le Fado. Certes pas donné 60€/pers, mais les plats sont très bons et tous les consommables sont à volonté (pain, eau, vin, café) Paiement en cash uniquement, réservation obligatoire si vous voulez manger, sinon arrivez vers 00h certaines tables se libèrent pour un verre. Les chanteurs varient après 1h, l'occasion de découvrir d'autres voix.

If you are up to a fado experience during your stay in Lisbon, Mesa de Frades may offer you a taste of it. It is located in a breathtakingly beautiful historical building with the walls adorned with spectacular tiles. It is a special experience to see this unique setting. The music is quite satisfactory although the intermissions are long in every 3-4 songs and the singing starts after 11 pm and goes on until late hours. You may also go for dinner earlier and catch a nice table to closely listen the music. Other option is to go only for drinks after 11 pm which is a better idea so that you do not spend two three hours only eating and waiting for music. Then you may have a seat only in a tiny balcony alike area upstairs and not be very comfortable but usually seats empty downstairs and you may find a good table after midnight . It is purely a touristic experience. This is your place only if you haven’t found your local fado bar that the Portuguese frequents.

Excelente lugar para tomar una cerveza y disfrutar de un buen Fado

Ambiente muito acolhedor, embora o espaço não seja muito amplo, está muito bem decorado com excelentes painéis de azulejos, bons artistas e a comida muito bem confeccionada, gostosa e a preço justo. Merece mais visitas e recomendo a quem gosta de ouvir o fado no seu ambiente natural.

Une deuxième partie de soirée dans cette ancienne chapelle à écouter des airs de fado qui nous ont enchantés, avec notamment une jeune chanteuse à la voix grave et puissante et un tout jeune guitariste doté d'un grand talent. Tout le monde a été d'une extrême gentillesse à notre égard. Notre endroit préféré pour savourer du fado !

Location gut aber klein. Das Essen und das Trinken ist für 60€ ein Raub. Preis-Leistung stimmt überhaupt nicht. Die Vorspeisen sind ein Witz mit TK--Brötchen. Personal und fado sind gut, aber das macht das übertriebene Preis auch nicht gut. Nicht zu empfehlen!!!!

Fado verdadeiro! Nunca jantei lá, mas para ouvir um excelente fado, basta aparecer depois das 23h30, para beber alguma coisa e apreciar. Os preços das bebidas não são nenhum assalto como nos outros sítios.

When you think you're paying too much for the dinner, when you should be thinking you're paying also for the Fado. And that one, my dears, is fabulous at this place.

Too expensive for a medium quality dinner. Ok, fado "vadio" is always nice but hey, for € 60 per person it was expected to be way better. Just sayin'

Es war ein gutes Ambiente, eine gute Vor- und Nachspeise. Das Hauptgericht ok. Aber: Das wir erst um 20: 30 Uhr eingelassen wurden, obwohl angekündigt 20:00Uhr angesagt war, das war schon enttäuschend. Und die Musik (Fado) begann dann erst um 23 Uhr. Da wollten wir schon nach Hause. Schade, hätte besser sein können.

Must do after 11.30 pm. Wait for the end of dinner service then come in and have a drink and listen to authentic fado music . I had an amazing experience of a young boy from the crowd and unexpectedly came up and sang so beautifully, then I didn't realise that the lady sitting next to me was also going to perform until she got up. I felt so overwhelmed with the amazing voices. definitely worth coming in late at night and be immersed

Melhor casa de fados de Lisboa!

We've been there only for the Fado, so I can't say much about the food (except that it is out of my price range). But the Fado and wine were exceptionally good (and the wine was fairly priced). Plus the interrior is gorgeous. Just be there at 10:30 PM. Because they close the doors during the Fado sessions. And pls don't talk while someone is pouring out his/her heart singing.

Amazing! We came around 11pm for drinks and fado, we were blown away. It's worth to stay late,the music is getting better and better. Highly recommended!

Good food and good Fado, but 60€ smells like a tourist price. People entering during the fado performance, not really pleasant

It is expensive for the quality of meal and the show (60€/person). Even if artists are greats, they let people come in the middle of the show. Even if they are not responsibles for the behaviour of their customers, it is noisy because of unrespectful people and noisy chairs on the floor.

Fantastic food and environment. The staff is very friendly and the show itself is magnificent! Also, authentic fado singers attend to this place which makes it a very genuine Portuguese experience. For sure a place I have recommended to several people already!

Extraordinario!. Antigua iglesia reconvertida en restaurante y pequeña sala de actuaciones de fado que empiezan a las 23:30 horas de la noche. Las paredes del interior recubiertas de preciosos y aantiguos mosaicos cerámicos. Se canta un fado actual y joven. Punto de reunión de distintos cantantes puede que te encuentres con alguna actuación improvisada y emocionante. Cada actuacion compuesta por unas 3 ó 4 canciones se intercala con descansos de unos 20 minuutos. Durante las actuaciones no se puede acceder al local. Puedes ir a cenar antes un menú de unos 60€ por comensal si quieres.

Un lieu incroyablement chaleureux, de cette chaleur humaine sans pudeur, celle qui est généreuse et qui offre beaucoup plus que de la nourriture et un spectacle...ce soir, au beau milieu de jeunes portugais venus de l’autre bout de la ville dans LE quartier le plus authentique de Lisbonne pour y chanter et y écouter d’autres chanteurs de tout âge, interpréter tout un héritage du plus profond de leur âme...j’ai mangé et admiré ces performances jusqu’au bout de la nuit! großartiger Fado Abend. wir hatten das Glück teresinha landeiro und gaspar varela zu erleben. es war wundervoll. mit 60€ nicht günstig, am essen könnte man noch etwas arbeiten, aber jeden Euro wert. allerings sollte man Zeit mitbringen. vor 2-3 Uhr ist hier nicht Schluss

Spettacolare location tipica portoghese con intere pannellate di azulejos del '500 (una stanzetta addirittura completamente rivestita). Eccezionale il porto servitoci che completava la magica atmosfera. Fado della sera eccezionale con due voci che si sono alternavano. Mettere like se utile.

솔직히 너무 좋았다. 자리를 예약하고 식사 후 공연을 본다면 솔직히 평을 엄청 높게 줄 수는 없을 것 같지만 11시 이후 간다면 분위기도 좋고 음료한잔 하기에도 파두를 보기에도 좋다!

Another tax avoidance place - wonderful food, great service and lovely music and wine spoilt by having to travel to a cash machine in order to pay the bill. Even had a Huawei mi-fi in the place so no excuses.

Niesamowite miejsce- nic tu nie jadłam, więc nie będzie się wypowiadać na ten temat. Ale od 23 zaczyna się koncert muzyki fado- niesamowity. Śpiewają profesjonaliści, ale tez autochtonii. Za lampkę wina można do 2 nad ranem słuchać przepięknej muzyki w odsłonie żeńskiej, męskiej, ale też po prostu gitarowej.Miejsce polecane przez Kydryńskiego. W niedzielę nieczynne.

Our travel agent booked this dining/entertainment experience for us, with the best of intentions I'm sure. My wife and I both agree that we would never go back to this place, mostly for safety reasons and for comfort purposes. I will explain. The reservation was for 21:00 (9 PM). As is our custom, we arrived early just to make sure that we could find the place. While waiting for the restaurant to open, we waited outside the front door. Three young men (20s-30s) from the restaurant came out front near where we were and stood around and smoked. OK. When the restaurant opened, we went inside, chose a table for two down the left side of the restaurant, third table inside the door (this is important). The restaurant eventually filled to capacity, and the waiters started serving. Funny thing is, two of the men who were outside smoking were the only waiters, and the third was acting as the host. And they were all still wearing the same white t-shirts and jeans that they were wearing outside while smoking. Disgusting. They couldn't put on a uniform or clean dress shirt of some sort? The host was also wearing the same t-shirt. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. As I type this, I cannot remember exactly what I ate. I think it was fish. I am not a wine drinker, so I passed on that. From where I sat, I could see the host station, and I did see the host pouring wine out of a box, then when the bag inside got too low, he took out the aluminum bag and drained it till it was empty. Nothing like boxed wine to say "Welcome!". The food was slow in arriving, and our server explained that they had a problem in the kitchen. Really? Now for the scariest part. The music did not start until 23:00. Well, that was when it was scheduled for. It actually started about 23:15. When the two guitarists and the singer arrived, they did something I find very scary. The door to the restaurant was locked from inside, chairs were brought out, and they set up and performed IN FRONT OF A LOCKED DOOR, which was the only way in or out of this venue. I cannot believe the stupidity involved in doing this. I guarantee you this is illegal in just about any country you can name, and for just this reason alone I would NEVER go back. This is also the noisiest restaurant I have been in, so much so that for most of my time there I sat with my fingers shoved into my ears. This was terrible. We left after the first set. I actually recorded five minutes of the ambient sound of this restaurant on my cell phone. Honestly, I have been to rock concerts where the crowd noise was not this loud. Just awful.

This place was part of our recommended places to visit by Portugal Trails. The meal and Fado was a package prepaid months earlier. We did not do much research into what we were in for and that was a mistake. We had already had a long day touring the city and we not able to stick around for the show that did not start until after 11:00pm, (waiters said 10:00) which is really late if you were up walking the city at 8:30am. The food came as a pre-fix menu and was probably the most pedestrian of all our meals in Portugal. The wine was constantly flowing, as would be expected, it came from plastic bags under the bar! The stage was up against front door and the tables of people there. Smokers (waiters and musicians) hung outside this door and all that smoke drifted in. Not recommended, that is if you are prepared for the “Fado experience”.

Terrorífico..... nos cobraron 60€ por persona por lo que debía ser un menú degustación y resultó ser un plato de mesón con vino de garrafa..... el Fado fue música folclore portuguesa, que muy bien pero no era lo que buscábamos. A todo esto, después de pagar la entrada y cenar se abrió la puerta y entró gratuitamente todo el mundo a escuchar la música.... muy decepcionados, nos lo vendieron como algo exclusivo y resultó ser una experiencia de las peores...

Uma das milhentas casas de fado de Lisboa. Fica em Alfama e tem um elenco de fadistas e de músicos excelentes. Vale a pena uma visita para jantar e ouvir fado a sério.

A local restaurant owner recommended this Fado bar to me. It was authentic, local, and simply made a wonderful evening. Knock on the door wait for an opening, grab a drink and enjoy!

Cozy and warm restaurant presenting tasty dishes and wonderful Fado music. We weretreated that evening with some outstanding presentations from grandmother, mother and daughter accompanied by outstanding musicians. An evening of great fun and fellowship.

We spent in june 2019 our last evening in "Mesa de Frades". With reservation. We had a table by the entrance, but then they gave us a nice table upstairs, but very tight. Considering that there is only one menu, the fix price of 60.-€ per person (including house wine and water) is a little bit high! At 11.30 pm the fado singer begun. I was already tired. But the "fado singers" were excellent and autentic. But price/performance rather bad.

Food is average, the music is very good, impressive space. Incredibly annoying is that people come and go while the musicians are busy. Cash only, and considering the price, you should ensure that you have plenty of cash. Also, considering what you pay, it would also be nice if the waiters dress properly and maybe consider combing their hair before going to work.

Fados, Alfama... um final de noite mágico!

Best, most authentic fado in town. Food and wine are good, singing is exceptional. Aim to arrive around 9pm. The singers tend to congregate in front of the door, so expect to stay in for the night (1...2...3am...)

Netter Laden mit Fado-Darbietung. Das Essen könnte aber schon besser und vielfältiger sein. Man bekommt nur 2 Auswahlmöglichkeiten und das bei 50 Euro Preis. Fado ist dann wieder Geschmackssache.

Excelente servicio, muy simpáticos la cena bastante buena y el fado espectacular un entorno muy agradable. No es aceptable que no se pueda pagar con tarjeta, aunque se ofrezcan a acompañarte al cajero más próximo.

"Menu degustación" TIMO ABSOLUTO. 50€ por persona por unos entrantes mínimos que pensábamos eran las tapas de la cerveza, vino regular de garrafón y como plato fuerte una dorada microscópica con judias verdes duras. Postre normalito. Puñalada para turistas incautos. Una pena porque el enfado casi nos hace no disfrutar del fado, que eso sí, fue maravilloso.

Arnaque nous y sommes il est 23h17 et toujours pas de fado....nourriture moyenne. Nous partons a 23h25 car nous sommes quand même là depuis 21h00... Toujours pas de fado on nous tend une addition de 100 €. On indique que l'on a pas du ce fameux fado et là on nous dit 80 €. C'EST DONC UNE ARNAQUE nous le signalerons au guide du routard.

Fuimos a tomar una copa para escuchar Fado, nos situaron en una mesa de la planta superior sin una vista muy buena. El precio es muy asequible pero el servicio es muy lento. Creo quees.as recomendable para ir a cenar en una de las mesas de abajo y haciendo una reserva previa.

Repas portugais de très bonne qualité. 1ere fois que j'assiste à du Fado et j'ai apprécié tant par la voix féminine que par les 2 guitaristes. La chanson interprété par un des guitaristes (homme) selon mon ressenti était encore plus chargé d'émotion. Début du Fado à 23h.

Excelente fado mas as refeições decaíram bastante. Conheci em 2014 e os pratos servidos nessa data eram muito bons, hoje voltei (com um grupo a quem recomendei) e a comida não era boa. Quiseram aplicar o conceito de "nouvelle cuisine" que estragou bastante. Os fados esses sim superaram as expectativas.

Niezwykłe miejsce. Dobre jedzenie i wspaniała atmosfera aby wysłuchać pieśniarzy FADO. Spektakl zaczyna się po 23:00 i trwa do "białego rana." Jeśli tylko uda nam się jeszcze odwiedzić Lizbonę na pewno tu wrócimy.

Very cozy restaurant, excellent food and the Fado is very special. They close the doors and the turn off most of the lights while you are having dinner, and then Fado starts to be sang. Is just a dinner you will not forget. If you want to experience Portugal's deep culture, come here and have a very nice taste of it.

Local de fado en Alfama. Estrecho pero con el encanto de poder escuchar fado en vivo en un ambiente a la luz de las velas. Solo se puede reservar si vas a cenar, pero a partir de las 12 de la noche, la gente que ha cenado comienza a irse y puedes conseguir una mesa para tomar un vino y escuchar a los cantantes. Las voces de ambos (un hombre y una mujer) no son espectaculares pero transmiten sentimiento. No pidáis la sangría... Es horrible.
