The experience in the hotel was unique. Cons: The hotel is not accessible by taxis or Uber. So we were left at the corner of a street with our luggages with no sign at all that were the hotel is located. It was only through Google map that we could find our way (people dont know English). There is no bellman to help you with the luggages and you need to climb around 20 stairs (the hotel is in hill top). When we arrived all lights were off and only one person was inside giving a spooky/scary feeling to this property. The person checked us in, showed us our room, and made breakfast for us! Very strange for 5 star hotel. There was a concert going on till 2am with loud music across from the hotel. Pros: I should say that they upgraded us to their best unit and we had an amazing night despite all the hassles. The Unit was very modern and state of the art. They offered free minibar (coke, water, juce, beer) which was wonderful. The location is within old town Lisbon so you can stop by many Fado and restaurant places. We enjoyed our stay. Ricardo at the front desk was an amazing person and very kind/helpful. I think the hotel is more 3 or 4 star and not 5 stars.

We could have been killed! In the middle of the night, while we were asleep, the ceiling above our bed collapsed over top of us! If my Husband had not moved over to the left, he would have been maimed or killed. I was struck with blunt force on my head and shin while I was asleep. In shock I sprang out of the bed in the pitch black and heard my husband ask me if I was ok. My forehead had a goose egg, my right eye was bleeding down the side of my face and my shin was swollen. This happen Sept. 29, 2018. The hotel has taken full responsibility, yet we have spent over $1,000 in prescriptions, medical forms and information they have requested. We also, due to the fear of the ceiling erupting further, had to dash out of the room. I waited downstairs for the ambulance. My husband gathered all our belongings together as quickly as possible. In the frantic pace, he may have missed one of my diamond earrings and his glasses (probably covered with plaster) or got lost in the clean up and not reported. I have experienced vertigo, nightmares, stress rashes due to this incident. 5 months later and their insurance company has not even reimbursed us for the items we lost and the fees we incurred due to their requests. As if they were the ones, that were almost killed! This is not a cheap hotel and I am almost certain any other high end hotel, the owner would have reached out and done what ever he needed to, to make sure we were looked after. It's been a nightmare! I have nightmares of ceilings collapsing over top me and it is no fun. Shame on them!

I wont go there anymore. They just lost the Portuguese hospitality tradition. It became pretentious and unpleasant. Dont waste your time to ask for an afternoon tea an go to real luxuous and friendly places !

My girlfriend and her husband stayed at the Palacate only for her to come home with a black eye, headaches and anxiety attacks. The room they were staying in collapsed over top of them in their sleep They could have been severely injured or worse. The Palacate's insurance hasn't even reimbursed them for tht items they lost having to leave the room in a panic.. Terrible Take responsibility and take care of your guests.

My wife and I stayed at the Palacete for 3 nights in late September 2018. On our last night, the ceiling in our room collapsed on us in the dead of night, causing serious injury to my wife. I narrowly escaped serious injury, perhaps death when a large piece of the plaster missed my head by mere centimeters. The collapse was followed by paramedics taking us to the hospital where we spent the evening in emergency. We were able to recover enough to make the flight home the next day. In the ensuing confusion and the mess in our suite, some personal articles of value were lost in the rubble as we were forced to leave quickly in case of further ceiling collapse. Since that time, the hotel has admitted to full responsibility for the event. The hotel contacted their insurance company who advised they would fully investigate our personal property losses, medical costs and non property claim. To this date, 5 months have passed and no progress has been made other than 'we continue to investigate'. Neither the hotel or the insurance company have reimbursed us for any of the above claim. We are extremely disappointed in both the hotel and the insurance company as we continue to wait and experience delay after delay in resolving this. We are also disappointed that our memories of a vacation in beautiful Portugal are marred by the ceiling collapse in the Sophia Room. At the time of the incident, we had advised the Palacete that we would not post on any social media as we viewed this as an unfortunate accident and they thanked us and advised us that this would be handled quickly and a top priority for the hotel and their goodwill. With no resolution in sight, we are reluctantly posting this negative review of the Palacete Chafariz d'El Rei.

Beautiful property in the old city. Safe and easy access, close to sights and a great walking area outside the hotel. The staff was suburb, especially David who helped us with breakfast each morning! Would highly recommend and hope to return.

Incredible views. Wonderful location. Efficient and friendly staff. One of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed at. Our penthouse suite had three levels. The bathroom was huge. They have taken great care in preserving this old palacete, which sits on top of the first public water fountain in Lisbon.

I dont often review although travel broadly and frequently. This place was among the upper 2 percent Ive stayed. Its an oasis of calm and civilization in middle of aflame. Perfect location. Beautiful restored old home. Beyond my expectation. Only negative at all is, depending on where room is, stairs can be steep for an older person and should be aware of it. Beatiful place and perfect location.

I felt like i was in an old mansion with an art decor flair to the rooms. We stayed in the top unit with a roof top terrace with a 360 view of the old part of Lisbon. Best breakfast included which was brought to our room upon request. The staff was beyond accommodating and extremely friendly. Will recommend to everyone.

This hotel is a converted palace tucked away secretly at the base of Alfama, it is incredibly convenient, the room was spacious with a comfortable sitting area and the bathroom was very large. The staff was extremely helpful, ironed our clothes at short notice, and were attentive to our every need. The breakfast was very nice and served in a beautiful setting. This hotel is a gem.

This hotel located in Lisbons Alfama district is the former home of a Portuguese man who made a fortune in Brazilian coffee. The hotel has only six rooms and feels like youve been invited to stay at the home of a rich relative, albeit one who hasnt made an updated design change since the 1920s. Enjoy it while you can. We understand the property has been purchased by Taylors, the port wine company, and will likely soon be converted to company events and such.

Absolutely amazing hotel. This hotel is a serene oasis in a lively neighborhood in a lively city. If youre planning a trip to Lisbon, do yourself two favors: first, book this hotel. Second, budget time to spend at the hotel. You wont regret it.Visiting this hotel is like visiting your grandmas house, if your grandma were one of the wealthiest people in Lisbon and had an awesome city mansion. We splurged and booked the tower room (incredible and worth the splurge) but all of the rooms looked great. More importantly, the common areas for the handful of rooms were a time warp. The garden terrace was delightfully relaxing and offered shade on hot days, the breakfast room (and breakfast) were tasteful, and the library was amazing to have a before dinner drink and after dinner drink. Lisbon and Portugal have incredible twists in their history, and staying at this hotel helps reveal some of that history. For those worried about staying in an old house, it has been completely restored and offers modern amenities where they are important. The 24/7 staff is there to politely serve a handful of guests (whom you will probably only see at breakfast) and they do so masterfully.Hands down one of the most amazing hotels in the entire universe.Only possible criticism is we dont prefer firm beds, but firmness seem fairly standard in Europe.

Sehr schade.

The Palacete is a sensitive and exuberant re-purposing of a very old building. This makes it interesting and quirky in the best of ways. What keeps me coming back is the wonderful staff. Each person goes out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. To problem goes unsolved, including luggage lost by an airline.

A beautifully converted old palace in the Alfama district of Lisbon. Service was warm and welcoming, the building itself is fantastic, complete with a bougainvillea strewn balcony overlooking the harbor. We loved out stay!

So happy with this mansion in Lisbon. Down a quaint alleyway in the Alfama section of the city. A lot of steps and stairs so I would not recommend for frail or handicapped guests. Beautifully renovated with careful attention to period detail. Stayed in Amaya suite with lots of space and a lovely balcony. Comfortable king bed and great shower. Amazing staff who arranged everything for us. Best breakfast ever!

I would give 6 stars to this hotel and its incredible staff if I could. Not only the house is full of historic details, meticulously recreated and maintained, and mixed with modern comfortable elements, but the attention of the staff is genuinely warm and caring that is hard to find in large hotels. Even if you don't stay here, please visit them for their daily tea room hours, Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 7pm. Afterwards, they close it to the public so that the guest could rest. Highly recommended.

Es gibt nichts was man bemängeln könnte.
