We went to Lissabon for a week and went twice to this place for the amazing steak (Filet recommended but the Sirloin is great too) and atmosphere. Everything felt in place. Thank you for the great service and sangria. Definitely coming back when in Lisbon again

Drove here by “timeout” recommendation. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the creamy steak, but I have to say it worth a try in here, especial coming here for the cultural experience.
The staff here are very nice and helpful, and the environment is absolutely charming :)

Melhor serviço dos últimos tempos em Lisboa, empregado ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️... Estava tudo ótimo mas não é o melhor bife de Lisboa , mas estava macio , o molho do bife achei muito fraco e líquido o mais fraco de todo jantar , não deixe de provar as sobremesas . O lugar é maravilhoso e muito bem cuidado.

Went to this place for a (very) late night meal. The decor is gorgeous and very chic, heavy burgouis vibes takes you back in time, as if you were a character in one of those XIX century romantic novels. Luscious deep red tones enwraps you in a warm and comfortable ambience, making you feel relaxed.
As for the bold statement that they serve the best stake in Lisbon, I can't really say because I haven't tried them all, but I can say for sure, that a very tender, succulent and juicy, cooked to perfection stake awaits you.
The service is very professional and attentive. A bit pricey, but totally worth it.

La carne, especialidad de la casa, parece que esté cocida y bañada en salsa. Muy tierna pero a mi gusto poco sabor.

went here with a friend. we ordered the bread with butter appetizer, which was delicious, a still water, a whiskey sour, and two steaks (one sirloin, one filet mignon). the steaks were large and so delicious. everything was wonderful, except the french fries that came with the steak, which were a bit dull and soggy. the waiters were lovely, and the whole establishment is classy, old-fashioned, and nice. would definitely recommend. (we only spent 60 euros total)

Es un restaurante de cierto nivel, magníficamente amueblado y decorado, y con cierto regusto a lugar con clase. El servicio del personal es excelente, muy educado y atento. Sobre la comida, nosotros solo probamos la especialidad de la casa, el bistec, muy tierno y jugoso, en su punto y con una salsa propia, además de unas patatas fritas de acompañamiento (normales, sin más). No obstante quizás sea un poco caro sin que la comida llegar a ser espectacular, pero el sitio bien merece una visita.

Fica ali numa das zonas mais emblemáticas da nossa Lisboa e é um dos restaurantes que dispensa apresentações, não fosse ele um local de referência no que toca aos melhores bifes de Lisboa (e não só).
O espaço em tons de vermelho e o ambiente acolhedor do mesmo remetem-nos para um conforto que se complementa com o facto de sermos servidos por pessoas da "velha-guarda", chamemos-lhes assim.
Para começar, escolhemos os camarões al ajillo e pão torrado que compõe o couvert. Uma delícia, indo completamente de encontro às nossas expectativas.
Para pratos principais, escolhemos a especialidade, o bife à Café de São Bento, que vem com um molho especial e com batatas fritas. Pedimos ainda um ovo por cima. Além desse prato, pedimos o strudel de bacalhau à Tribeca, que consiste num folhado cremoso de bacalhau e brunhesa de tomate e azeitonas, rúcula e vinagreta de xerez. Adorei! De comer e chorar por mais. Pedimos ainda uma sangria tinta para acompanhar.
Para terminar, escolhemos uma tarte tatin de maçã, com gelado de baunilha, absolutamente divinal e ainda um creme brulée.
Um espaço que merece sem dúvida que o visitemos, em ocasiões especiais, uma e outra vez, pois é de facto uma referência lisboeta no que toca a boa comida e a espaços com história!

Sem dúvida que é um dos locais de referência de Lisboa, por vários motivos:
- Ambiente intimista, é mesmo cozy e confortável;
- Atendimento excepcional;
- OS bifes são efetivamente muito bons;
O único motivo pelo qual não qualifico com 5* é pelo facto de uma das entradas que pedimos (Foie Gras) ser servida com pão de forma tostado, penso que uma casa com este renome poderia inovar para outro tipo de pães.

First of all, get the special São Bento fillet mignon. It is a delectable tender steak which is only enhanced by the creamy and flavorful sauce. I personally did not add the fried egg. In addition to that, the service is flawless and the atmosphere is intimate and charming. Depending on how much you drink you will spend about €30-40 per person, and it’s completely worth it.

Delicious steaks served in a very opinionated setting, reminiscent Edgar Allan Poe: from having to ring a bell and to be admitted in (or not?), then seeing the rich decor in all shades of red, and being served in a very classy way - I felt this place was unique, in a very good way.

After eating seafood and specifically Red Shrimp for 4 days I had to have some meat and like the tourists we ate I picked Sao Bento. I made a res on a Spanish website at 7pm for a 8pm slot and glad I did. This place is small and popular. Popular with as many Portuguese as everyone else. The guys eating at the bar lived in Porto. The place was a treat. Great apps, we had carpaccio. We had the signature steak with an amazing sauce made with coffee. Great drinks, wine and everything. We will go back.

2. Fois gras is actually not fois gras. It’s a hard pâte that has nothing to do with fois gras. This is cheating.
3. Bad service, guests left unattended for too long.
4. Staff incompetent, could not tell what piece of sirloin they have (top or bottom).

I liked the food that I ate here, and really enjoyed the concept of the dish. I do wish that they used a different cut of beef, but that is just preference. The atmosphere here was not really that enjoyable, and we also we're sat at the table near the restroom. The waiter also wasn't our favorite, especially with how he handled the wine service. I usually don't mind it too much, but this place is a little overboard.

Garçons infelizes , mal educados , cansados, deveriam se aposentar ja que não estão aptos a receber pessoas dispostas a pagar 25,00€ por um bife, o mais caro de Lisboa.
Por isso a atmosfera decadente.
Troquem a equipe , e remodelem o serviço de vocês , tinha tudo pra estar sempre cheio , mas ficou pra tras se comparar com novos restaurantes em Lisboa.

Excelente experiência no coração de Lisboa, mesmo em frente à Assembleia da República. A qualidade do bife é simplesmente maravilhosa. Mas as entradas de presunto e camarões selvagens não ficam atrás. Como sobremesa a Tarte Tatin é um must a escolher. Depois há todo o resto, desde o atendimento cordial e impecável, até aos pormenores da decoração intimista. É um restaurante para ir sem pressa, bem acompanhado e saborear do princípio ao fim.

It's true what people say about this place. Café de São Bento is home to Lisbon's most famous steak, cooked to perfection no matter what temperature you like it. Served in a delicious cream sauce and crispy skinny fries on the side, this dish is truly the best steak I've had in Portugal. If you are in the mood for some fish, you must try the codfish strudel, the dish takes about 30 minutes to prepare but the wait is worth it. The pastry is cooked to perfection offering a satisfying crunch in every bite making it a the perfect accompaniment for the creamy codfish
Apart from the food, the atmosphere in the restaurant is warm, the decor is tasteful and the waiters are very genuine and pay fine attention to detail. Will definitely be returning the next time I'm back in Lisbon.

I went to their timeout location and ordered their 'rump steak a portuguesa'. It was a very thin, weirdly cut rump steak. It looked like a piece of flank (which is actually what I think it was) I asked the waiter for a steak knife, as it was extremely hard to cut, but they had none. Because it was so thin, it was overcooked.

Great meal & experience! This place is cool from the moment you arrive. You can't just walk in, you have to ring the doorbell to be let in which was charming. The decor is very swanky/lounge like. Red velvet, really beautiful. Our waiter was manning the entire dining room and he was incredible. So attentive and answered all of our questions with a smile. They're famous for their signature cream sauce so if you typically like cream sauces- you've got to try it. If not, go Portugesa route. DELISH!

Amazing food and amazing service!!! My friends and I were interning in Lisbon for 6 weeks and came so many times to this restaurant because of how wonderful our experience was. The steak is to DIE for and the waiters always remembered us and would take our shopping bags for us when they would seat us. An extremely classy and well run establishment I highly recommend!!!

Un lieu original et classieux. La spécialité le filet de bœuf à la crème. La viande est fondante et la sauce agréable. On est quand même loin des meilleures viandes des restos brésiliens, mais c'est histoire de goût. Entrée après avoir sonné à l'entrée ! Le prix est élevé pour le Portugal, mais le trip vaut la peine.

The steak was good, the sauce it was in was excellent, and the atmosphere was even better! Great service from the staff and all of the food was great. The apple tatin was amazing as well. Enjoyed the meal with some Port wine making it an excellent evening! Highly recommend!

Eccezionale il servizio con personale molto professionale in linea con lo stile retrò del locale.
Per entrare si deve suonare un campanello ad un ingresso che pare di un portone.
In quest’ambiente d’altri tempi la cucina è molto curata e in particolare consiglio Cafè de sao vento steak.
Prezzo in linea con la particolarità del locale. La qualità costa ma in questo caso meno di quanto dovrebbe.

Just wow. My most memorable foodie experience in a city packed with great food, this is a place dripping with ambience and old school charm. Ring the doorbell for entry into the cosy-womb-like interior, by suited waiters. The menu is concise, serving three variations on sirloin or fillet mignon, with a delicious vegetarian and cod alternative, or steak sandwich. I plumped for the Portuguese-style steak, rare fillet steak swimming in a warming garlicky, buttery sauce topped with confit garlic, served with fresh crisp-like potato discs. Absolutely melted on my tongue, and I poured the chips into the sauce to soak up every morsel. Don’t intend on a quick bite here – we luxuriated for over three hours, finishing with tawny port and a cracking chocolate dessert. Cost is on the pricier side for Lisbon, but outstanding value for the quality of food, and the London equivalent – I paid 47 euros for two courses and bread, including a huge gin and tonic and an after-dinner port.

おすすめはサーロインステーキ。
ソースと焼き方を聞かれるが、オススメと言っても大丈夫。
日本のサーロインステーキとは違い、完全な赤身肉で慣れないと日本人には硬いと感じると思う。味もサービスも最高。
パンに付くパテは地元のチョリソーにクリームチーズを使った逸品。
ステーキとパンで１人€25程度。

A highly classy, though friendly restaurant with pretty expensive food! You pay a good money but it is worth! The steak is wonderfully tender with a milk sauce which is hard to find on earth!

Very limited choices on the menu. Good service from the waiter and ok food. But definitely not worth the horrendous price you will pay... Expect to pay more than 40 Euros a head... just to eat a steak and some fries, plus a dessert that has nothing extraordinary: that is definitely too expensive. And that is without counting the wine.

Se siete a Lisbona non potete perdervi questo locale. Il miglior filetto di tutta Lisbona. Il servizio dei più eleganti e efficienti. Il locale ha un atmosfera raffinata e retrò. Prima del loro posto speciale ci hanno servito del pane caldo con burro e una salsa al salmone molto buona. Vi assicuro che i 30€ a persona spesi li valgono tutti.

Ambiente acolhedor e muito confortável, garçons muito simpáticos e atenciosos, a comida é EXCEPCIONAL. De entrada pedimos um camarão ao alho que estava DIVINO e o prato principal que foi o filé com ovos e fritas, que superou todas as expectativas. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-S-O!!! Os preços são justos. A única critica é no tocante à carta de vinhos, que poderia ser mais variada. Recomendo e voltarei, se Deus quiser!

It was the second time we came here. You have to know about this place to find it, because on the outside you can hardly tell it is a restaurant, you even have to ring the bell. It is one of the oldest classic steak houses in Lisbon. It is opposite Parliament, so you might have lunch next to a politician.
The steaks are delicious, very tender, not too small or big. Service is friendly with a good sense of humour. Definitely a place to go if you are looking for a good steak!

入り口付近で迷っていると、通りかかった方が親切にインターフォンを押してくれて、中から扉を開けてもらえました。
とても美味しかったです。ビール１杯、ステーキ(パン、ポテト付)、デザートのアイス２種類で5000円弱でした。
１人で行きましたが、他のお客さんはカップルが多かったです。

식감이 질기지 않고 부드럽고 짜지 않고
분위기도 좋다.
드셔 보면 후회하지 않을 거임.
스테이크 위에 후라이 반숙을 올려 색다름.
가격이 좀 있음.
타임 아웃에도 매장이 있는데 거기건 좀 짜다.
조금 싼데 이왕이면 본점 가서 드셔보길 권한다.

Hoje fui com a minha mulher ao Café de São Bento no Mercado da Ribeira. De modo geral avaliamos todo o desempenho como médio porque foram-nos apresentadas batatas fritas congeladas. Num espaço como o "Café de São Bento", essa instituição de referência alfacinha, parece-me, não devia apresentar produtos congelados aos seus clientes, neste caso as batatas fritas.
Deixo a crítica por esperar melhorias substanciais.

Excellent steak (I had the house steak) with best ever chips and spinach on the side. Dont forget to add Portuguese style prawns for starter. Service was top-notch not because it is fancy but because the staff who would recommend you exactly what you need. Will definitely have another visit next time I come to Lisbon. Too bad we were not the first Korean customers...

Bardzo ciekawe miejsce. Trafiliśmy tu przepadkiem. Wejście do lokalu w oryginalny sposób bo najpierw dzwonimy dzwonkiem przy drzwiach a następnie wpuszcza nas do środka Pan o wyglądzie Louis de Funès. W środku inaczej niż we wszystkich okolicznych lokalach. Przytulnie, cicho i elegancko. Za tym wszystkim stoją wysokie ceny. Za dwie lampki dobrego Porto zapłaciliśmy €16 :)

Wat een bijzonder restaurant. Bij aankomst lijkt het wel een soort nachtclub. Je kunt er niet naar binnen kijken en men moet aanbellen. Eenmaal binnen is het interieur rood. Maar wat een TOP steaks serveren ze hier.

Price\Quality ratio absolutely terrible. Paid 92 euros for two people for a chewy stake, mediocre fries and a well fried egg, whereas I wouldnt call that outstanding couisine skills. Only good thing about the place might be the atmosphere, if you like fancy. Neither authentic nor good in any way!

A Tasty Small Steak
I have read many reviews on this place and love my steaks. So, expectedly, when I arrived at Mercado da Ribeira (food hall) and noticed the writing on the Cafe De Sao Bento menu wall stating 'Best steak in Lisbon' my expectations soared.
So my wife ordered the Bife do Lombo at a cost of 16,5 euros (with no sides)! Upon arrival the steak was cooked to order (medium) and tasty but decidedly small which was very disappointing. Had the place not been so packed I would have returned the steak and chosen from the other restaurants available.
Would I eat there again...no!
Fortunately the drinks (obtained elsewhere) were reasonable and there was a great vibe.

It's a very elitist restaurant. It has smoking and non-smoking area. The typical steak is very big and very expensive. The food is good but for the price (about €30 per person) is no go.
For a reduced budget you can have the same good and nice meal that is sold in this restaurant on other places.
Place is small and only good for one or two people, more is considered a crowd...
Service is the same or even worst than any other restaurants.

Excellent service, quality food, good atmosfere...Arrivati davanti al ristorante, ci siamo trovati davanti una porta chiusa con un campanello. Dopo aver suonato, ci ha aperto un cameriere che ci ha fatto sedere ad un tavolo. I tavoli non sono quelli classici da ristorante, ma sono più da bar classico, circondati alcuni da poltrone. L arredamento e' molto raffinato. Abbiamo ordinato il piatto di carne classico con patatine e devo dire che la carne era molto tenterà e gustosa. Le patatine fatte a mano, molto buone. Infine il dolce, apple pie con gelato alla crema. Tutto molto buono e prodotti di qualita! Super consigliato!
