I have classes in Lisbon Language Cafe regularly as a "health-check" in parallel to my daily life in Portugal. I found it very useful and somehow natural. Even though I speak portuguese on a daily basis (sometimes more, sometimes less :) - it is very important to me to have the classes in order to progress and get the right direction. Frederico, as a teacher, is very encouraging and creates a positive atmosphere where you can grow.

The best course you could probably find, plenty of solutions to follow the teachings, both via Skype, Zoom or on one to one face to face tuition, Central location for the school right by cais de soidre station, As a foreigner who lives in Lisbon, Frederico is an invaluable help to study productively, speak Portuguese correctly and learn fast, having a great time doing it as well. My wife and I took 10 lessons with Frederico (plus one free trial lesson), and he was fantastic. As a teacher myself, I could tell that he has put a lot of effort into developing his teaching strategy, and his temperament is friendly and easygoing. We also had one lesson with another teacher, Melissa, who was also super friendly and encouraging. I would definitely recommend Lisbon Language Cafe to anyone trying to learn Portuguese.

My teacher Melissa is first of all a bright person, very calm and funny. The school is cozy and by studying there you have access to 2 platforms: one for podcasts and the other to study grammar in an interactive way. Despite of this I have received a lot of material to study on. I loved Melissa’s way of teaching which covered every kind of topic and not only grammar. Every our was a moment of conversation. So I have no doubts in recommending this school.

Together with my husband I already followed several Portuguese lessons at Lisbon language café. Because we are on a different level (my husband is way ahead), Frederico has to differentiate constantly. Nevertheless he’s doing a great job in challenging us both on our own level. Although it’s sometimes a little bit frustrating for me lagging behind, Frederico is a real professional. He perfectly knows how to ask the right questions which are targeted at the level you’re at. This way I also have the feeling that I make progress. He also provides exercises online using Quizlet. This is a great tool to help us practice further along at home. I’m a French teacher for 27 years so I know (I hope ) what good teaching methods are. We’ve been following lessons with Frederico for about 4 years. From the first day we felt really comfortable with him. The method he uses is an interactive one. You learn vocabulary and grammar but all the time Frederico makes sure that you keep on talking. THE ULTIMATE LANGUAGE SCHOOL! One of the reasons why I decided to move to Lisbon was my intention to learn Portuguese (I was a complete beginner). As soon as I arrived in Portugal, I spent quite lots of time browsing through many schools’ websites and eventually my choice fell on Lisbon Language Café. Just after a few weeks into my classes, I already new I had made the perfect choice. FLEXIBILITY. I travel quite a lot for work, and at times I am away even a few weeks in a row, so a flexible approach to the planning of my classes was crucial to me. My teacher has been extremely open to accomodate my needs. TEACHING. I personally opted for the 1-to-1 formula and I have truly enjoyed every single one of my classes. Just after the first two introductory classes, in fact, I could feel I was already hooked. Frederico is a truly gifted teacher, who has proved to quickly understand my learning process and seamlessly adapt the classes and their contents to it. This has been making me feel like I have been learning at an amazing pace, with almost no effort. LOCATION. The school is located in a very central area, a stone’s throw from Cais do Sodre. VALUE FOR MONEY. An excellent course at a very competitive price. In conclusion, my personal experience with Frederico and Lisbon Language Café has been nothing short of excellent and rewarding. I have been taking individual classes with Melissa for the last months. The courses are fun and tailored to your needs. Melissa has helped me a lot to learn Portuguese and I suggest it everyone who wants to learn or improve their Portuguese!

I defintely recommend this school! I could start my lessons pretty spontaneus and Melissa would always find some space in her full timetable for me! So thankful for that. Last year I did a two weeks intensive group course right after my arrival to Lisbon at the Language Café. The course gave me the basics and fundamentals to get a solid understanding of the language. 5 months later I started taking individual classes which have been helping me a lot. The one-on-one environment lets you room to speak without being hesitant, and your teacher can focus on you only. Frederico, the teacher, can estimate the students' level very well and challenges but never pushes the student's ability to speak and understand conversations.The materials are structured very well, and each student receives an online account to listen to podcasts and train vocabulary strategically. I have had very positive experiences at the Lisbon Language Cafe and can only recommend this place if you want to learn Portuguese.

Federico and his team run a great school, classes feel individually tailored, are relaxed and fun. I learned a lot from the beginner course I took and look forward to the next level. Highly recommended!

I loved learning Portuguese at Lisbon Language Cafe! I decided to take a class at the last minute while visiting Lisbon and visited another centrally located language school. I ended up deciding to go to Lisbon Language Cafe because of their conversational methodology- there was always an instructor in the room talking with us student whereas the other school I visited had students listening to a recording and taking notes. Frederico and Melissa were wonderful, kind, patient, and fun instructors. I highly recommend this school and will absolutely go back when I continue my Portuguese studies!

My teacher Melissa is very friendly and learnig with her is very pleasant and I learnt more than with my studies in groups at home. She gave me some exercises, to do homework and in class we did conversation and grammatik. I will go again in september. I highly recommend this school. Frederico and Melissa are wonderful teachers, and the content (A1), although overwhelming at first, is well designed to offer a good, solid start. The courses they offer are excellent value for money, and Lisbon is a wonderful city to explore, while learning Portuguese.

Language Café is a cool way of learning Portuguese, the groups are small (we were 4) and Frederico teaches with fun and love to his mother tongue. We finished the course but will continue on one on one, because we moved here and we want to speak proper Portuguese :) We can definitely recommend him!

I took the A1 Portuguese from scratch course with Frederico and I really enjoyed it. The class was small ( 5 people) and every student had equal opportunity to practice and ask as many questions as they want. Frederico and Melissa were very patient and took their time explaining everything. The class was fun, the group was young and the teachers had a sense of humor. In two weeks you cover the material that is needed for basic communication in Portugal and you learn useful things that will help you get around in this country. I highly recommend it!

I took the A1 Portuguese from scratch intensive course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Portuguese in Lisbon. Frederico is a fantastic teacher. His calm and patient demeanor along with his clear and easy to follow teaching method made this class a very enjoyable way to learn. I have attempted to teach myself Portuguese multiple times over the years and, after taking this course, I can honestly say that this is the first time that I have felt that I had any actual command of the language. Unfortunately they are extremely busy with a lot on their plates and could not find a place for me even with my open schedule. I will have to look elsewhere to continue past A1. This is a great course if you fall into very specific categories.

I found the A1 intensive course to be a great way to start building a foundation for learning the Portuguese language. Frederico and Melissa were both fantastic instructors!

I completed the A1 Portuguese course with Frederico and it was well worth it! Small class size (mine was 4 students total) means you get a lot of opportunities to practice. The class was fun, you cover an extensive amount of material, and by the end of the two weeks you'll feel comfortable speaking and traveling your way through Portugal and be ready to continue your Portuguese studies.

Wir hatten so viel Spaß - zwei Wochen Kompakteinstieg in die portugiesische Sprache, und es war super. Frederico hat viel Erfahrung und weiß, welches Lerntempo das richtige ist, wann welche Fragen sinnvoll sind und hat kreative, vielfältige Übungen parat. Die 2,5 Stunden pro Tag waren genau richtig, um den Stoff auch verinnerlichen zu können. Und sehr tolle Leute habe ich auch kennengelernt :) Habe schon sehr viele Sprachkurse mitgenommen und weiß, wie zufrieden ich mit dem Language Café sein kann. Absolute Empfehlung!!

Just finished a 2 week intensive 'Portuguese from scratch course' with Lisbon Language Cafe. Learnt so much more than I expected in a short time. The 2 and a half hour daily lessons are timed just right with the homework perfectly designed to consolidate new topics learnt during the day. The small classes (4 people) are perfect for faster learning and the online portal a huge bonus for practising listening skills. If I ever take further Portuguese lessons, I wouldn't hesitate to rejoin the Lisbon Language Cafe.

I took the intensive course Portugues from Scratch, A1 level. I think the length and content of the course is perfect for that ones that want to start with the language and have an overall idea in a short time. The atmosphere was great, cool co-working space, easy-going teacher, and a good balance between theory and practice. I strongly recommend this course. Porque a pesar de la similitud entre los dos idiomas, este curso es rápido y dinámico y ha sido muy útil sobre todo para mejorar la pronunciación y estructurar en que se parecen y diferencian los dos idiomas y asentar una base a partir de la cual el aprendizaje sea mucho más rapido. This course is amazing! I did A1 Portuguese from scratch intensive course and I highly recommend to anyone that wants to start learning the language. The whole process is very systematic, atmosphere is relaxed, groups are small so it’s easier to adapt to people’s progress, not to mention that the place itself is super cool. Lisbon Language Cafe it's my second school and would recommend it everyone who wants to learn Portuguese! The individual classes are focused on speaking and practising grammar which you learn from an exercise book (created specifically for this course). In these classes I have been able to develop my understanding of the language and become confident enough to start speaking it comfortably :)

I took Portuguese from Scratch classes (level A1) and was very satisfied with everything. Frederico and Marta are both great teachers with lecturing style I really enjoyed. We had fun and learned the basics of Portuguese language. Now I´m hoping to continue the classes with our group and learn more. It was a pleasure, and for those of you who are reading this - I highly recommend it!

Lisbon Language Cafe was recommended to me by a friend and I took the 4 week evening "Portuguese from Scratch" course - and I'm very happy I did! It has been a great introduction, there is a good standard of teaching, good structure, small class sizes so you are always participating and Frederico and Marta - while thorough and clear - are both always really fun and engaging. The lessons were 2.5 hours each and not a single one dragged. The course has finished now but we are hoping as a class to continue lessons if we can work out schedules! Obrigado!

***Excellent*** I took the A1 Portuguese from Scratch course over 2 weeks - It was one of the best experiences I've had since coming to Portugal! Frederico and Susanna are fantastic teachers and all of the lessons were well planned, engaging and good fun. The small group size of 4 students worked perfectly and there were lots of opportunities to speak, listen and work directly with F and S. While my Portuguese is still far from perfect, i feel that the course has provided me with a firm understanding of the basic structure of the language. As a result, I am a lot more confident when speaking in everyday situations. I will be returning to the Language Cafe for conversational classes over the coming weeks.

Taking both private lessons with Frederico and also participating in two conversational group lessons per week really helped me improve my Portuguese in a way that was interesting and fun. As an English language teacher myself, I got a lot of new ideas for how to structure conversation classes. I have tried the 20h introductory course with Frederico and I was really happy about it. Instead of spending months looking at online courses, in just 2 weeks I got a really good introduction into the language and I am now more comfortable interacting with people in the daily life, in portuguese.

Do u want to learn portuguese from scratch ? I would highly recommend the intensive course level A1. We learned in a small group of only 4 students. the atmosphere was familiar, open minded but serious. It was a perfect mix of speaking. listening and writing activities. We experienced a completely interactive and conversational way of learning. Everyday meant a little progression in grammar, vocabulary and most important in speaking, which was very motivating ! In my group we had different levels of language understanding and learning velocity, nevertheless there was neither a boring nor exhausting moment, thanks to our amiable and appreciative teacher (Frederico) . Also i appreciated a lot the time management, which allowed me to explore the beauty of lisbon after the lessons and the weekends. Not to forget the charming café next to the learning rooms which offers nice smoothies, coffees and snacks to refresh the brain during the break, while enjoying the great view of lisbon on the balcony. Two-week Portuguese A1 course made a massive difference to me. It's meant i can start speaking Portuguese to my girlfriend and her family. Thoroughly recommend it.

I took classes for two weeks in Portuguese, both the individual lessons (with Frederico) and the group conversational lessons (with both Frederico and Susanna). I liked how quickly they were able to schedule me in (within a day), and how adaptable the individual lessons were (I already spoke Spanish, and we were able to go on that and skip many things I had already learned, such as the difference between ser and estar). If I return to Portugal and still need lessons, I will go here again :)

I had a great experience with Lisbon language cafè! This course meets at one of my favorite locations in Lisboa, LX factory. The learning environment is laid back and has a great vibe. I started with the Level A1 intensive course and then proceeded with individual lessons for 3 weeks until I had to leave Lisboa, but I will return at the end of the Summer and will definitely continue learning Portuguese with Frederico. He was easy going and patient. He is also willing to continue my lessons via Skype while I return back to LA for a bit which I thought was amazing! I definitely recommend this language course, it's reasonably priced, easy to book, and has taught me so much.

I cannot begin to tell you how much fun learning Portuguese has become since I am following classes with Lisbon Language Café at the fabulous LX factory. I follow conversation classes twice per week and it is always interesting, fun and you meet a lot of nice people struggling with the same challenge: learning Portuguese. For me the Lisbon Language Cafe represents the perfect balance between a formal and informal learning experience. Every lesson is structured with a specific learning objective in mind with a focus on developing conversation skill in a fun way versus passing an exam. I highly recommend taking a class!

I took a series of conversational classes with Frederico and I am happy to say that I really enjoyed the style of the classes and found that I improved noticeably over a short period of time. The classes are small (4 students max) so that you are almost forced to participate, but the atmosphere is not intimidating, thus encouraging you to do so. I needed lessons that focussed on speaking as my previous classes were very grammar based (and had around 15 students per class, so no time to talk). Each class has a good balance of grammar and speaking practise - I highly recommend them.

I have been learning to speak Portuguese for a number of months now, and Frederico has been my teacher. I am an native English speaker with no prior language learning. I think Frederico is a great teacher. He makes learning Portuguese fun and interesting. Of course it is tricky but Frederico is so patient, honest, funny and encouraging that I look forward to my weekly class. What I especially like is Frédérico's teaching style, I learn how to use Portuguese in every day situations. I have also attended some conversational clsses which are great for expanding your vocabulary and confidence. The cost of the classes is fantastic, and the resources are really good.

I was shocked at how hard Portuguese was for me to understand. But I was also surprised at how much easier it became when I signed up for classes at Lisbon Language Cafe. Frederico is a great teacher--patient, encouraging and really tuned in to what individual students and the class need. His lesson plans were organized and a good balance of practical things to know for living in Portugal, as well as conversation and grammar. I'd recommend it for anyone spending time in Lisbon who wants to learn the language.

Possilvelmente a maneira mais inteligente e rápida de aprender a falar uma lingua. No Lisbon café o método é muito adequado a uma acelerada aprendizagem... Aconselho...

Estou nesta escola há 6 meses e anteriormente frequentei duas outras. Em termos de desenvolvimento e aprendizagem, posso afirmar que nesta o método que utilizam é muito eficaz, pois milagres não existem, mas a evolução do meu inglês em 6 meses foi superior à adquirida nas outras escolas. Pois é um ambiente informal com poucos alunos o que facilita muito a aprendizagem. O tempo de conversão é muito superior ao de uma turma de 10 ou 15 alunos. O Frederico o director e fundador da escola é uma pessoa muito acessível e que nos ajuda em tudo. Em relação aos professores não podia ser melhor, dinâmicos e cooperativos. Em suma aconselho vivamente a frequentarem ou experimentarem uma aula, pois vão adorar como eu adoro.

I organised to have 2 hours each morning private tuition at 15.40 euro per hour. The person I spoke to, Frederico, insisted I would pay in advance. So I paid the first lesson via Paypal. I met the teacher who was very good. The same evening Frederico insisted I would pay again in advance, via Paypal 90 euros and pay the teacher 2.40 euro cash. However that evening around 9pm, the wifi was down so I could not pay in advance via Paypal. Over the phone I suggested to pay cash before the start of the lesson or give him my credit card details. None of these options were good for him so he cancelled the lessons. Just like that. I was going to suggest I would meet him that evening and bring the cash but he was just not interested in finding a solution. Seems like he could not be bothered to be helpful. How can you run a professional business if you can only accept payments via Paypal? This attitude is not commercial at all. Now my whole family is coming over and we all are having private lesson (ofcourse with an other school/teachers) which will generates an income of well over 10.000 euros over the coming months. I guess Lisbon Language Cafe does not need more income.
