This is a secret gardon owned and operated by a couple. It features a big variety of plants from both Portugal and different continents, flourishing in a most natual but artistic way owing to the structuring of stone fountains of different shapes and sizes, huge clay vases, wood carvings, metal sulptures, all perfectly integrated into this kingdom of the plants. The tempreture and humidity is such that you feel you are in a tropical forest rather than Portugal, not to say the sunny and windy but most time dry Cabo da Roca. The plantations, stone paths, the little traditional style cottege and the landscape match so perfectly with each other that you will be astonished if the owner told you they started the gardon only 6 years ago. It was just a slope of Sintra mountain with its local plantations. He and his wife spent the first two years building the paths, the watet and irrigation system. It is amazing that the owner knows the academic name of each plant as well as their origins and nurturing specifics. If you are a plant or rustic garden lover, or if you are interested in people living a life of their interests, you must visit Verdeal da Roca.

In the words of Maria, on of the 2 co-owners of Verdeal da Roca "This is a garden that sells plants". And I couldn't agree more! This is a truly special place, what happens when a secret garden meets an open-air museum, with a selectively curated collection. Here, you don't feel as if you are buying plants, you feel as if you are discovering them. The owners speak Portuguese, English, Italian, French and will share good tips, some secrets and the stories of many of their plants.
