Great Vintage bookstore, staff was knowledgeable and polite.
*To the negative reviewers: you have your opinion but based on what I’ve read from you clearly don’t understand how the vintage market works, of course you can find those things cheaper if you spend the time and look and of course they have a location advantage which might raise a few prices but they have to pay their rent and it’s very well curated.
Excellent Bookshop in my opinion!!!

If you like books, let me put this way: you have to come here.
They will have everything in here. Mainly in Portuguese, but some other languages as well.
Their collection goes from recent books to centenarians. I'm pretty sure some of them should be in museums. And by saying that what I mean is, even if you don't fancy buying anything, you'll enjoy the visit, and I guarantee you will feel the urge to take home something.
The organization is remarkable, as well as the collection.

Though they have some cool stuff, the prices are outrageous. They were selling a brand new Penguin edition of Os Lusiadas by Camões for 25 Euros when in fact it is listed for 15 USD on the publisher's website (There are other such examples). They lost my business for that reason alone

O ambiente é fantástico, é um prazer vaguear pelos corredores apertados cobertos de livros antigos, e ainda mais à noite. Infelizmente, os preços são muitíssimo elevados; chegam por vezes ao triplo ou quádruplo do preço praticado em outros alfarrabistas. Imagino que não seja barato manter um espaço destes no Chiado, mas ainda assim...

Um dos últimos redutos alfarrabistas com verdadeiras pérolas no seu espólio. Atendimento eficiente e cordial. Um oásis na zona comercial do eixo Baixa-chiado.

Not a five star used bookstore, but I'm surprised by it's low rating and relative obscurity on the internet. I've traveled about viewing many used bookstores in Lisbon and this is the only one that even reaches what I usually expect in a used bookstore. There are others with a specialized collection, but this is the only decent one in town with a broad range of subjects. Mainly Portuguese titles, but I snagged a French edition of an art book I've been after and there are English titles as well. Prices are high, so do your research. I don't mind paying a premium for instant gratification and direct knowledge of what you're getting, but to be 4 times the average asking price for one title? I'd love to help with overhead, but really? My actual purchase was within expectations of a retail store. The owner seemed nice, though a staff member seemed miffed that I fingered one ornate set. Certainly worth a visit.

Viagem no tempo. Nunca pensei que ainda fosse posssível encontrar um local assim, com tanta história e presença do passado. Vale a pena perder uma boa parte do dia só para admirar todo o espólio de livros e outros objetos de outros tempos, de uma forma geral, e reservar a outra parte para procurar tesouros que a primeira impressão nos sugere e quase nos promete. Não é pelos objetos em si, é pelo significado e carga quase mágica que cada livro, foto antiga, mapa ou jarra, etc. transmitem. Vale a visita só para experimentar e viajar por vezes mais de cem anos para trás, provavelmente muito mais. É esta incógnita e busca por algo único que nos faz querer voltar e explorar as muitas salas e estantes antigas intermináveis. Não estragar, pf.

Cool old bookstore to wander around and check out the interesting selection of very old (though possibly fake, based on other reviews?) maps. I would probably not buy anything here but it's a cool place to wander around.

The word thief is not even close to what these guys are. The prices are ridiculous. They want to steal money from tourists. One book that I bought for 10 euros there its 60 euros. The broken tiles that you can find randomly in any building and take it, they sell it for 20 euros and a whole one for 50 euros. Thieves, thieves, thieves!!!!!!!! Cuidadoooooo

Dishonest book sellers, they use their position in the heart of Chiado to ripe off the tourists !!! Stay away and don't support them... I bought a book in another second hand store for 6 euros the "exact same book" there was marked 100 euros !! I got shocked ... The space is lovely yes, this is a historical bookshop called Sa de Costa, but the new owners are abusers....

uma boa livraria / alfarrabista para quem gosta de ser enganado.conseguem ter livros em segunda mao á venda mais caros em dobro do que custam novos na Bertrand ou na FNAC.têm preços exorbitantes em livros que facilmente se conseguem encontrar noutros alfarrabistas (honestos) em Lisboa e em outros pontos do país.eu ate consigo perceber a logica:dada a localização da loja conseguem enganar facilmente os turistas e os portugueses mais incautos e menos informados no que aos livros diz respeito. É a chico-espertice á portuguesa no seu melhor,acreditando que os outros são todos ignorantes e desprezando a inteligência alheia.

Per chi ama i libri, per chi è alla ricerca di testi particolari e anche storici, questo è la libreria ideale. Si trova nel cuore del quartiere Chiado a Lisbona. Unico neo è non avere i testi di autori portoghesi (Saramago, Pessoa, ecc.) in tutte le lingue così da far immergere il viaggiatore in testi che lo aiuteranno a comprendere meglio l'anima portoghese e questa meravigliosa città.
